Great service. The food was wonderful, service was great. Each meal item we ordered was to perfection. Was able to enjoy outside seating for the view of the surrounding area.

This place was a 5 outta 5!!! I've never been to any of the Sammy's places on City Island so I'm happy we started with this one. We came here for my momxs birthday dinner and the food was huge and delicious. They greeted us as soon as we walked in. The service reminded me of me at work, joking with the customers and just making u feel so welcomed. When I was reading up on the menu i was skeptical about the sizes for the prices but I must say it exceeded my expectations. I ordered the Pit Master Feast for 2 (for mom and I) and it came with Ribs (we picked Baby Back), Pulled Pork, Brisket, BBQ Chicken and Smoked Sausage, it also came with 3 sides so we did the Collard Greens, Mac n Cheese and corn on the cob. My sister had the Fried Seafood Combo. Came w/ Jumbo Shrimp, Scallop, Cod Fish, Calamari and a Baby Lobster Tail. My niece had the Large Snow Crab Legs (2 clusters). When I tell you I was shocked as everything came out. Everything was delicious perfectly seasoned and more then we could finish lol. Only downside is the pulled pork was a little dry for my liking but it was still tasty. I will definitely be returning here to try out more stuff on the menu.

I went to Sammy's Smoke House for my birthday, and my son took me out for dinner. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the brisket and fried shrimp with corn and macaroni & cheese, collard greens yellow rice and french fried. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted homemade. My son ordered the ribs, shrimp, and French fries, Onion rings, and he really enjoyed his meal too. The drinks looked amazing, but I decided to keep it simple with a ginger ale, while my son had the pink lemonade. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming -- perfect for a birthday dinner. The service was friendly, and our food came out nice and hot. Next time, I'm definitely trying the seafood boil!

Smokehouse! Literally some of the best BBQ I've had in a very long time. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. We specifically came here for BBQ and we left full, completely satisfied and planning our next visit. Everything was well seasoned, came out in a timely fashion and was plentiful. The portion size is exactly what you expect when eating at a smokehouse. Our waiter continually checked on us. The drinks were STRONG and the complimentary bread was yummy.

Exceptional experience at Sammy's Smokehouse! My friend and I had outstanding customer service from start to finish, and the food was absolutely delicious. The ribs were fall off the bone perfection, the salmon was cooked beautifully, and everything we tried from the rice to the nachos and crispy onion rings was full of flavor. Portions were generous, presentation was on point, and every bite was truly chef's kiss. We left full, happy, and already talking about our next visit. Definitely going back highly recommend!

This was my second time visiting Sammy's Smokehouse and it definitely didn't disappoint. I had the smoked brisket with collard greens and baked beans, and everything was absolutely delicious. The only small critique would be the macaroni and cheese it was a little runny, and I wish it had been baked a bit more. The ambience is really nice, there's great parking, and the staff was extremely friendly. The owner's wife even came over to personally introduce herself, which was such a sweet and welcoming touch. Overall it was a great experience, and I can't wait to get back there again.

I was very disappointed. We went there when they first opened and the barbecue was spot on the barbecue had smoke rings. It was truly smoked however, this time the brisket was extremely tough and the sausage wasn't smoked . It seemed I like they're just cooking the food and putting barbecue sauce on it and calling it smokehouse barbecue. We ordered our food without barbecue sauce but it came with barbecue sauce. That's OK they tried to correct it. It taste as if they were cooking food and just putting barbecue sauce on it. On a positive note Sammy fried shrimp is always consistent. Best on city Island.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise! The restaurant itself was upgraded to give a BBQ restaurant with stars in the ceiling and the staff wearing western style red and white shirts. They offer Happy Hour specials Monday-Friday from 4-7pm. The best part is that they food was flavorful and the drinks were strong. However the service wasn't the best~ my server got lost several times in a not so crowded restaurant. But there's always someone walking around and willing to assist. From the moment, we walked in.....the host asked "are you celebrating anything special today?". I loved that! Now, the food....I ordered the crispy calamari (which was lightly breaded and not so crispy, there was oil residue on each piece and the breading fell off as I picked it up) and sent it back to the kitchen. The second time around is was better! It was crispy but the seasoned breading flavor was lost. I also tried the baked clams, barbecue wings, shrimp skewers, and tacos (one shrimp and one fish). My top two dishes were the shrimp skewers and the baked clams because of seasoned breadcrumbs. OmG!!!! The shrimp skewers are one kebab. Annnnd when I tell you it is so good...it is! Juicy shrimp are paired with Fri-colored peppers and purple onions. Ughhhh, so good!

Tony's Pier Pina Colada...mmmm - wish i had one right now while typing out this review!

I've been to the regular Sammy's and enjoyed the Seafood Fare, but this one....not so much. Went for my brother's birthday & he chose the venue, usually I'm in city island, for Seafood NOT BBQ. That being said, the staff was extremely nice & accommodating ,,...first we were overwhelmed by the large menu- but decided on a dish that was for 3-4 people - A bit of everything. Chicken, pulled pork, beef ribs, pork ribs, sausage, brisket. When it arrived it was a lot of food on the platter,...but the pulled pork did not look like traditional pulled pork- it seemed like shaved pieces of roast pork/ pernil. Gross we all ignored it. Small amount of brisket. I appreciated that they did not slather everything with huge amounts of BBQ Sauce. This did not taste like BBQ food, or if it did it tasted like someone like a novice like me would make- we quickly all acknowledge that it wasn't great- but serviceable. I doubted they even had a smoker, more like liquid smoke! It tasted like cooked food - not slow, Smokey BBQ food. Ribs had no discernible rub or char , brisket what little there was has no char/ rub or seasoned bark to it. It figures ...there was a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays on the table....real BBQ joints have their own sauces with either varying degrees of heat or types; saucy or vinegary. 4 sides...turned out to be individual sized -dry rice, grainy flavorless Mac & cheese spirals - and would not have fed a group of four as it was advertised to be, meager serving. When it arrived I remarked about it right away, and asked for the manager - we proceed to eat ...manager never came. I ordered a whiskey sour, asked if i wanted a specific whiskey claimed house was okay- a small glass came, sort of a mini wine glass / cordial glass ...not the traditional lowball drinks glass. This diminutive drink was $18!!! SORRY BUT THAT WAS WAY OVERPRICED!. That was priced as if i had order the large frozen drink or oversized Margarita. We had lot left behind- so we divide up the leftovers between the 3 of us . It was an early evening and we went down to the water where the best drink i had all nite was the frozen pina colada for $8, at Tony's Pier I can tell you when i got back home & attempted to late nite snack ...the chicken which i had not tried at dinner - virtually had leather for skin...it was hard to pull off the bird, and just as tough to chew. Sorry, cause the staff was excellent---the food however - was NOT! Been there, done that- NOT to be repeated. At the end of the nite after sitting by the water for an hour or two we left happy...but couldn't help but think I wld have preferred Cheap ol' Tony's Pier ...it doesn't try to be lofty & heck wld have enjoyed a basket of shrimp w/ fries more!

Well, there was some garlic bread and another half of a corn muffin here a minute ago, but somebody ate most of it lol

Who are these people reviewing this restaurant? It's almost like the competition came in to write reviews. Please ignore these reviewers. This is a decent restaurant with good food and good service. City Island is a nice escape from New York City when we don't want to go all the way out to Long Island-- and although there are some excellent restaurants, most of them are a little overhyped and overpriced. They make up for it with giving you a lot of starches to keep you full and happy. Sammy's Shrimp Box across the street from this restaurant (and one would assume sister restaurant) is one of those such places. Good food, good portions, good time. My plan was to visit there early on a Saturday night with my nephew (by the way, not the smartest time to travel to City Island lol, but we beat the traffic before 6 PM). As we were approaching Sammy's Shrimp Box, we looked across the street and saw what appeared to be a restaurant we had never seen before. Realizing that Sammy's had now entered the smokehouse world, we decided we would give it a try. Ignore these previous reviews by obviously disgruntled patrons who have an ax to grind. What this place has going for it is it's cleanliness, it's service, it's portions, it's flavor, and actually it's price. I've attached the bill because considering the portions of meat, the 2 to 3 sides for each meal, and the bread basket (which in this picture is half devoured) you get a very fair price for City Island. As for the food, my nephew, exceedingly picky for 17 year-old, was quite happy. His review should be sufficient in itself. The ribs literally fell off the bone. I think next time I'll ask them to hold the barbecue sauce so that I could add it myself-- sometimes I just like the smokehouse flavor without the sauce. So much meat I couldn't even finish half the plate. French fries were perfect. Not too skinny, not steak fries size. The beef rib was delicious according to my nephew. And the fried shrimp were absolutely perfect. You could tell it was very fresh shrimp with the crisp snap in each bite. The people that served us were exceedingly sweet and exceedingly attentive. Next time I'll go in there I'll add more seafood and write another review. Because there will be a next time.

No more coconut shrimp not a lot of seafood. Same waiters as the old Sammys. Wasn't impressed with the menue. Don't even know they switched over to a smoke house. We wanted seafood in City Island. Chicken was enough for two possible three people.

By the time we left, though, the place was totally filled up with couples and families, and the bar downstairs was absolutely packed. We love a good, lively ambiance, and that buzz in the room made the whole night feel like an event. The Views- We were sitting on the top floor, and even on a gray, misty Friday at dusk, the views of Van Cortlandt were so nice. There's something really relaxing about just watching the world pass by outside while you're tucked away with a good meal and a great crowd. The Food- The Swordfish was perfect--super fresh, meaty, and seasoned just right. It's a solid move if you want something heavy-hitting but not as intense as a ribeye. The Mac & Cheese is total comfort food (rich, creamy, with that golden crust), and the loaded baked potato was huge and hit the spot. Also, don't skip the bread basket--they serve it warmed up with soft butter, which is such a nice touch. The Service- The hospitality really made the night. We had great service tonight; the staff was on point and made our return visit feel special. Service was exceptional, and they made sure everything was smooth from start to finish. The manager, Jimmy, sat and watched as both my grandmother and great uncle struggled to take the stairs, no hand of assistance. When I approached him, I was told 'what's the big deal, so you had to take some stairs'. I told him my uncle fell last year and was hospitalized for 6 months, if you see someone in a walker, why would you do this? His response 'I don't know what you want me to do, buy you a drink?'. You cannot order a fresh carafe or pitcher of sangria with the fruit in it here, which is what I was expecting from a place headlining sangria. So your experience of the Sangria Cafe for sangria will come down to whether you like yours fortified. I like my sangria freshly made to order with just the wine and chopped fruit, but you may have a better experience at Sangria Cafe if you prefer fortified sangria. So the Manager, Elios, was superb. He told me he would let me taste the red, white and lychee versions to see which one I preferred. Given they are all fortified to an extent, I chose to order margaritas. I prefer mezcal margaritas, but they did not have mezcal at the time. So I went with the tequila classic. It was good and I had it to go for my evening at a cigar lounge. I also ordered food to go: the French cut pork chops with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and the braised beef short rib with small potatoes and broccoli. Here's a twist: the food was better than the adult beverage at a place emphasizing the latter. At all times, my server, Hector, was superb in his own right. Service is probably the strong suit at Sangria Cafe, followed by the food. The French cut pork chops taste like they have been marinated or at least brined. You will eat these down to the bone and you will pick up those bones to clean them. The garlic mashed potatoes were great too, but the asparagus was a bit overcooked. On balance, this $30 dish was satisfying and would have been better had they included a little gravy on the side for the mashed potatoes. The beef short rib at $38 was even tastier. I appreciate the chef took the time to get a good cut of short rib and trimmed the excess fat down to a leaner cut. The meat is inherently marbled with fat, so the flavor is already going to be as present as the savory tenderness. If you dine at a restaurant where there is excess fat on the beef short rib, know the chef there is not putting in the work to trim all that fat. Coudos to the chefs in the Sangria Cafe kitchen for their trimming work. This is even better than the pork chops and you'll savor every bite. The broccoli was overcooked here, so the chefs could restrain themselves on the cooking time for the veggies. The small potatoes were perfect and what is not to like about marbled beef and potatoes. Here they have a little gravy with cooked onions to add to the savory pleasure. The Sangria Cafe is a great place to come with friends. This place will see lots of action as the weather warms. The atmosphere is upbeat and the music is in full swing. This is a Latino and Afro Latino crowd. The kitchen and service are very good here. Perhaps I'm in the minority preferring nonfortified sangria, but I wish that were an option with the chopped fruit in it. Perhaps the majority prefers the fortified hit, but it would be nice to have it more relaxed with just the wine as summer approaches or at any time of the year. Please keep the mezcal in stock as SOP for the mezcal margs. Thanks to Elios, Hector and the chefs in the kitchen. 3.5 stars.

I also had a whiskey sour which without a doubt was the BEST whiskey sour I've ever had. The gentleman that waited on us was very nice. With additional staff I think the experience would've been smoother.

Street park Dj Rob-Lo was spinning latin and house beats in a Sunday afternoon. The music was a fun vibe making many butts move in their seats. Bartender and service were amazing, very attentive and prompt. Samantha helped us pick out food and was super nice.she recommended the bottomless drinks for brunch 90 min unlimited all you can drink sangria, mimosas or rum punch. The rum punch was tasty and she kept us topped off. Finally the food was on another level. Got the Arepa and Tripleta both were quality portions were pretty big and season perfectly. Side of yuka frita was great and perfectly seasoned. If you are visiting or simply looking for a fun time or a great bite you should give Barrio a try you wont regret it.

It's def an upgrade and more spacious. They decorated it nicely. Music and food were great. So were the drinks. I especially loved the flan and my pina colada. Service was good also. I wish there were more restrooms, there's only 2. And i also wish they took reservations, it's walk in only. I will def be back though
