One of the most reprehensible and disturbing dining experiences of my life, I met for a family dinner with my grandmother for my elderly great uncle's birthday. When I arrived the entire lower level was empty. When I found them, they were halfway up a steep 4 flights of stairs despite my uncle requiring a walker and my grandmother a cane-the hostess had apparently told them they must sit upstairs as the lower level was 'reserved'. Not only did they make no gesture to accommodate them in any other way, this is an EXTREME ADA violation, and could have very well been a lawsuit. The manager, Jimmy, sat and watched as both my grandmother and great uncle struggled to take the stairs, no hand of assistance. When I approached him, I was told 'what's the big deal, so you had to take some stairs'. I told him my uncle fell last year and was hospitalized for 6 months, if you see someone in a walker, why would you do this? His response 'I don't know what you want me to do, buy you a drink?'. Not only was their overall service awful and food barely edible, this is one of the most unaccommodating, disrespectful, and genuinely unsafe establishments I've ever been to. read more

It's been a minute since we've been to Jake's, but tonight was a great reminder of why it's such a staple. They're obviously famous for their steaks, but for the first time ever, we actually skipped the red meat because we were just craving other things--and honestly, the kitchen killed it. The Atmosphere & Energy1 We got there for an early dinner around 5:30 PM. It wasn't super crowded yet, but it still had a great energy with plenty of people there for happy hour. By the time we left, though, the place was totally filled up with couples and families, and the bar downstairs was absolutely packed. We love a good, lively ambiance, and that buzz in the room made the whole night feel like an event. The Views- We were sitting on the top floor, and even on a gray, misty Friday at dusk, the views of Van Cortlandt were so nice. There's something really relaxing about just watching the world pass by outside while you're tucked away with a good meal and a great crowd. The Food- The Swordfish was perfect--super fresh, meaty, and seasoned just right. It's a solid move if you want something heavy-hitting but not as intense as a ribeye. The Mac & Cheese is total comfort food (rich, creamy, with that golden crust), and the loaded baked potato was huge and hit the spot. Also, don't skip the bread basket--they serve it warmed up with soft butter, which is such a nice touch. The Service- The hospitality really made the night. Terrible unfortunately. This is the second time I've come here in six months and BOTH times my meat was undercooked. The last time I ordered a New York strip medium and it came back rare. This time I ordered a simple burger medium and it too came back from the kitchen RARE. The service by the waitress was great and she was very apologetic and it's not her fault but for the prices charged at Jake's the kitchen has to do better. I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to family or friends. As longtime customers, we were extremely disappointed with how my family was treated. Upon arriving, the waitress, Marissa, made an inappropriate and uncomfortable comment toward one of my family members. Regardless of anyone's personal opinions or beliefs, every customer should receive the same level of professionalism and respect. The poor service continued throughout the meal. Even something as simple as refilling water required us to ask. I went here last night with my dad and I have to say this was a great dining experience. We had a 7pm reservation but we showed up at 6:15 and they seated us. We were seated upstairs. I don't remember the name of our server(sorry) but he was excellent. We had the calamari appetizer and the Caesar salad,both of which were great. For our dinners, I had the special grilled boneless prime rib. I substituted the potatoes croquettes with creamed spinach. My father had the lamb chops with a side of lobster Mac and cheese. I really enjoyed my food. The creamed spinach tasted like there was a sharp cheese in there, which was great. My father really enjoyed his lamb chops and Mac and cheese. For our desserts, I had another special:apple caramel cheese cake and my dad had the tiramisu. No complaints from with of us. It was great. My family had a terrible experience, especially by the manager and the server named Marissa. She was rude, unprofessional, disrespectful and ignored the table. All customers should be treated equally regardless of their opinions especially paying customers. If you choose to work at a restaurant in which you have to attend to others then you should treat everyone with the same respect. I will never recommend this restaurant again. My family were long time customers there. If the staff member did not feel comfortable in providing service to them without blocking their personal opinions then the staff should not dealing with customers on a daily basis!!! Very disappointed with our recent experience. We have been customers of this Bronx establishment for 17 years and have always felt welcomed. Unfortunately, after my son was recognized, an employee made a comment referencing a personal social media controversy that was inappropriate and embarrassing. I went to Jake's a few days ago for large co worker gathering for dinner. The location is on the main thoroughfare. We found parking around the corner which had no meters, otherwise it's not that easy to find a parking spot, but the offer valet. The restaurant had a nice ambiance to it. We went to the top floor which had the most seating since my party was over 30 people. The wait staff was excellent. I had the surf and turf which was pretty good, we ordered plenty of sides, cream spinach, thick cut bacon etc. which was also good. The price of the steak was fairly pricey when compared to the likes of keens steaks in nyc etc. I enjoyed my dinner and have no complaints. read more

I dined here the other day and was disappointed. The ambiance is very nice. But my food did not rise to the same level. I ordered calamari. It was tough and rubbery. My entrée was skirt steak, mashed potatoes and assorted vegetables. My whole plate was room temperature. Bordering on cold. Yes I could have sent it back but, that's always scary AND I was famished. The wedge salad was the star. Blue cheese, bacon crumbles and crisp lettuce. Delish. For desert I had their bread pudding. Nope. It was more like a cute slice of almost raisin bread that was dunked long enough to soak up flavored liquid (bread pudding juice). Shaking my head. No bueño. The ice cream that accompanied it was good though. On a scale of 1-5 I'll give my meal a 2. Staff deserved better. They get a 5. This place is delicious! My uncle had a t bone steak with creamed spinach and baked potato, I tried the Jake's filet mignon with Mac and cheese, and wifey had marinated skirt steak with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! It was my first time here and it will not be my last. They have valet parking to ease any parking concerns, because it can be difficult to find parking. The restaurant is very nice, we sat all the way upstairs. I did see they have nice window seating which I hope to experience the next time I go. The service was excellent thanks to Chris our waiter! Chris was very attentive, and so sweet. He found out we were celebrating my birthday and they gave us the dessert "on the house". Which just topped off the whole experience. P.S. I've dined at Jake's Steakhouse many times before and have usually had a good experience, which is why tonight was especially disappointing. Our server was very kind and accommodating, especially when we requested the onion soup without bread due to being gluten-free. That part was handled well. We ordered the porterhouse for two and split it, and unfortunately it was very mediocre for the price. The steak lacked char and flavor and tasted like it hadn't been seasoned properly--no noticeable salt or butter at all. For the cost, I've had far better steaks elsewhere. The sweet potato fries were also a letdown, to the point that we sent them back. We replaced them with mashed potatoes, which were better, but nothing memorable. For dessert, we ordered ice cream at $10 per scoop, which felt overpriced considering it wasn't homemade and took quite a while to be served, especially since the restaurant wasn't very busy. We were told there is a new chef, so hopefully this is just a transitional phase. The restaurant isn't bad, but it definitely needs some work to get back to the level it used to be. read more

My partner and I got the steak for two and we got a side of veggies as well as an order of shrimp. The shrimp was good. The steak although it was juicy and tender my partner felt the steak wasn't as seasoned as he would have liked it to be. The cocktail was good. First time going to this location. Reminded me of a colonial building with the wooden staircases. All the guests were enjoying themselves and having lively conversations when we reached the top floor of the restaurant. Now to the food...I had the mussels marinara it was OK. The marinara did not have any seasoning and the mussels seemed as though they were overcooked. It was hard to get a full mussel in its shell. I thoroughly enjoyed the wedge salad and the onion soup was very good. The brownie was good as well. My sister loved her meal , which was the shrimp scampi and the bread pudding for dessert. Another friend loved the Chilean Seabass, unfortunately she did not like the house salad. She said the leaves were wilted. She enjoyed the cheesecake. Normally the service is excellent but tonight for some reason it wasn't. We had to stay on the bar level as I am handicapped and can't climb stairs. Which I am surprised they don't have alternative measures. They had no seats upstairs anyway and we had. Reservation. The server that was on the bar level was not the best tonight and I was shocked cause normally it's fantastic the service. The food was amazing as always. Your hostess, first took us to the wrong table and then got upset after we asked to sit elsewhere than where she wanted to sit us which was where other people would've been standing over us. We were accommodated. The general manager thrn came yo out table and scolded us, pointing his finger in our faces because the hostess was crying. We weren't mean to her. He said we were no longer welcome to come back. We walked out. Plain and simple. There are lots of other places to spend our hard earned money. Who comes up to a seated table and start yelling. So we have been here before, and loved it. We felt like keeping it local, and I honestly felt like Lobster Tails. The service was excellent! We started out with drinks. I had the Crème Brûlée Martini, my husband just had a Vodka and Tonic. We then split, the Clams Oreganato, which were so Dry!! Omg think they forgot to add Butter. It was all bread crumbs. Then I had the Twin Lobster Tails, which I thought was good. Cooked perfectly. My husband had the dry aged rib eye, which was full of nerves!! For $80.00?? first time at a bronx steakhouse! the food was very salty and mids. for starters i got buffalo chicken wings and those barely had any buffalo sauce on it! i was disappointed by the wings it was not that good the french fries were very salty and not crispy as preferred. the star of the show was the garlic mashed potato's and those were an absolute hit! on the other hand, the steak was cooked medium well but it was exceptionally dry and way too salty. i was not a fan. now here's the issue for me, the ambiance was too loud and rowdy. there was a group of 10+ people being obnoxiously loud. the hostess heard the commotion and was making faces at us in dismay and she still sat us right next to that large group. there was plenty of seating downstairs and not once did she offer an alternative despite her complaining about the noise to us! make it make sense i wont come here again and would rather cook my own steak. forget the food, for the price point, the service and ambiance is not worth it. I went out with co-workers for lunch a few years back, to Jake's. We sat at the bar and i ordered a wonderful Roast beef sandwich which was to die for. This year, i decided to take my mother in Law and my wife for a nice steak dinner. My wife and mother in law both ordered ribeyes with sides and some drinks. I ordered what i was craving, that Roast beef sandwich. To my surprise upon placing our order, out waitress told me that the roast beef sandwich was available BUT, they only serve it if you are in there bar section. I figured this rule had to be so that customers just don't take up space on their tables ordering sandwiches, which was not our case. I thought surely if i spoke to the manager in charge they would see we ordered full dinners at our table, i just didn't feel like eating a steak this time around. After explaining to manager what i wanted, he doubled down and said no and referenced their policy of not allowing customers to order sandwiches at the table. . The manager stood his ground. I didn't order anything and watched my wife and mother in law eat. I cant believe they would deny customers a sandwich they usually serve one a customer is ordering full size dinner orders. I am commenting on a June 8 2025 experience. It was a RETIREMENT dinner/gathering with close friends and family. I remain SOUR about the following episode: I was (I am the retiree) getting hassled via the company about having a drink from one the many bottles brought me. I was well aware that favor was wrong but, company kept pushing me. We had a Private area and so, I thought th action could be done QUICK and, no staff would notice but, I was wrong. A wait staff person informed me and I agreed SHE was Right immediately but, then I was EMBARRASED in front of MY Guests BY JAKES management that I was INAPPROPIATE IN "touching" the Wait Staff person on the arm to steer her concern away from My Guests. THIS TALK s I received from the Management on Duty in front of my guests! I was then treated as a PERVERT by management as I tried to explain WHY the event happened. I finally did make my apologies(from a distance and and asked for permission to do so!) REALLY??!! I M an OLD customer and I m getting BASHED for being INAPPROPATE in trying to quell a situation whose actions took less than five(5) seconds! Not Happy; JUST EMBARRASED. TLDR: Steakhouse prices of course, but this place delivers solid food and features truly first class service. This is a great Riverdale spot. As steakhouses go, this one is pretty good. Situated right on the west side of Van Cortlandt, this place is great for special occasions and casual dining alike. There are essentially 2.5 floors of seating (upstairs, downstairs, and a small space in between), making for an easy time grabbing a seat, especially during the week (we went on a Wednesday). The upstairs seating has amazing seating by the window, making for a great romantic occasion. The service here was a real standout. First, our server was on top of everything, extremely courteous, friendly, and professional. This really heightened our experience. Second, we came here around 7:45, but stayed until around 9:45, even though the restaurant technically closes at 9. They didn't rush us out, and in fact, they still offered us dessert around 9:15 or so. Mixed Vegetables - I would skip these on my next visit. They are fine for those looking for some sort of veggie, but not a lot of real flavor in these. I don't even think we finished this side. Loaded Potato Croquettes - Perfectly fried, but a little dense. I would suggest for some additional ingredients to thin them a bit and make the filling creamier (e.g. more milk/butter/cream cream). Still a pretty good side though. Jake's Filet Mignon - This was a nice steak. I really enjoyed the frizzled onions and plentiful sauce surrounding it. I ordered it medium, and thats exactly how it arrived -- great! As steaks go, this was good, but these prices were a bit high when you benchmark against other steakhouses (considering quality). Solid local Steakhouse, serving amazing steak, delicious daily specials accompanied by all the usual sides beautiful prepared.The wedge salad a must ! I went to Jakes for a Christmas party back in December. I enjoy a good steak especially at a good steak house. I left hungry and dissatisfied. Portions were small (I get prices are going up, but charge me more for a regular portion). A lot of places are doing this, not just this establishment. One of my all-time favorite places. I grew up in the neighborhood and am still here, and Jake's has been a staple for as long as I can remember. It's a neighborhood gem, but all will enjoy no matter where you are from. In addition to Jake's classic steakhouse vibe and the really good fare - we usually get the HUGE T-bone to share, tuna tartare and the delicious carrot cake from Lloyd's Carrot Cake, just a few blocks away - (that they have on the dessert menu), the owner and staff are awesome! Pleasant front of house, but the food was almost unilaterally mediocre and presented as if someone in the kitchen was too tired to care. My wife had onion soup (good), filet of sole with rice pilaf -- where the fish was past its prime and the pilaf might have come from a box; I had bang bang shrimp which did not go bang bang and all, more like yawn yawn. My rare filet mignon was properly rare but lacking flavor; the side dishes of sauteed broccoli and French fries were a relief because they offered color, texture, and flavor. Our sorbets for dessert were presented carelessly; the ordinary ice-cream parlor plates them better. If this sounds like carping, I assure the reader that I delight in writing positive reviews: this is the record of two disappointed diners who would surely find other restaurants in the area. Oh, $187 plus tip. AND -- while we're talking about class and tact -- Jake's is the only restaurant I've ever seen list two prices: 12 cash and 12.67 credit. I dined at this restaurant a couple of times during the happy hour and the food was okay. I feel the prices are a bit inflated. But that's not the worst thing. I ordered a wedge salad to go. And I got a plastic container that had little containers inside of it, filled with blue cheese dressing. One had bacon bits in it. One had blue cheese crumble. There was a wedge of lettuce and four slices of a beefsteak tomato. , you would think for $20 they could have at least assembled it and cut up the tomatoes.
