We visited Sammy Sue's BBQ yesterday afternoon for the first time and got what we were looking for - one of the best pulled pork BBQ sandwich ever. The facility is ok, and the gravel parking is ok, but the pork sandwich was GREAT! I thought my fair fries were really good, but the wife's BBQ chips were less then ok. So, how did we rate our first visit to Sammy Sue's? The BBQ pulled pork sandwich gets a 5++, the fries get a 4+, the BBQ chips get a 2, the facility gets a 3, the waitress gets a 5 and the meal value gets a 5. Will we go back to Sammy Sue's? We sure will for one of those pulled pork sandwiches and I have to try their ribs! read more

I'm at a wedding being catered by Sammy Sue's. The bbq is very tasty and the cheddar biscuits are good but they're small so people take two. Staff shouldn't get mad about that. Because people take two, they ran out. The mac and cheese wasn't hot and the salad seemed wilted. The croutons were soggy and far from fresh. Catering staff was friendly. read more

We were looking for a BBQ place and found this on yelp. We had the sampler which I would recommend if you want to try most of their specialties at one time. So I had no real plans of eating in the boonies tonight. But it's a long day, no food since 7 am since starting in Columbus. Change of plans and a new flight scheduled out of Cleveland tomorrow morn has me finishing up at 7:30 in Dover with an hour and a half drive ahead of me. Yelp to the rescue finds me this place...point 02 miles away. By the looks of Sammy's interior and exterior, this was once a very dive bar, slightly renovated and definitely standing on its culinary laurels! The 50 cent wing starter, half dozen please, with the bartender-suggested Spicy BBQ, smoked then grilled, are fantastic. I order the half of brisket with cole slaw and baked beans sides. My super friendly and attentive bartender/waitress (no room at the bar) approves of my order (I love it!). It comes out fairly quickly and it's mad good. Best baked beans ever. I'm later asked how everything is and I'm told the beans are smoked then brisket is added to it. Amazing. Notes: steady flow of take-out, constant dine-ins entering, great and friendly service and the portions are perfectly slightly big (enough). Finally, seems to be mostly locals and an excellent atmosphere. I'm bookmarking and I'll be back next month!!! read more

Outstanding local fair. Very good ribs, awesome baked beans, good atmosphere. Kind of looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but in my experience, those are the best kept secrets. We were staying in Amish Country and didn't want any of that "fake" Amish food (see my review of Der Dutchman). Opten for the drive out to Sammy Sue's BBQ- WOW was it good! I knew i was going into a good barbecue joint when I saw smoke billowing out the side. I had the beef brisket nice and tender with fair fries and baked beans. Great meal for the money. Great BBQ for eastern Ohio, i was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely come back. read more

Solid q. Well smoked ribs nice and barky. Really good sides like beans and German potato salad. Ribs were St. Louis style, rubbed and glazed with a thick mollasis type sauce like Kc masterpiece or krafts. Good quick service real reasonable prices. read more

Can I just say OMG! we were passing thru and read the yelp reviews about this restaurant and decided to give it a try. This place haa amazing food! We travel a lot and usually try to visit local restaurants. This one is definitely at the top of our list. We had the house BBQ brisket Sammie. The meat was so tender and the sauce out of this world. They have the perfect blend. Not tangy, not sweet nor heat. It compliments their meat perfectly. We actually ordered sauce to come home with us. Highly recommend. Food is delicious prices reasonable. We ordered carry out- the person taking our order was very helpful. We had the beef brisket, homemade chips, and steak salad. It is not cheap, but it was quite tasty. We will try again- maybe done in next time- children willing- lol. read more

Must have been an off night. I got the barbecue sampler. Wings, pork, brisket, ribs. I smoke approx 20+ times a year and what I found was that nothing was seasoned at all. Very bland. Also, no smoke ring on any of the items. They were charred by fire but no smoke ring at all. Pork was good, wings tastes like they were boiled then grilled. Ribs were good but I have never tasted brisket like this. It was not cut against the grain and tastes like pot roast that was then grilled. So many folks have given this such rave reviews I want to try it again it had to be just an off night. I will try again in a few weeks and update this post. This was not smoking but grilling. Also I did not see the smoke and no firewood outside no smell of smoke outside the place. I'm assuming they have internal smokers and just smoke in the mornings and not throughout the day. read more

Had the pulled pork and brisket..both very good. Coleslaw was excellent and so were the 'spicy homemade chips'. Beer cheese soft pretzels were awesome! Food arrived quickly, waitress was very friendly. Will definitely stop by again when headed down I-77. read more

Just ate here loved the club sandwich very helpfully staff did not love the house chips right on the money fresh and crisp but a very sweet "dust on them" almost like a dessert might work on sweet potato fries but for me just not to my liking only other miss was just did not smell like a smoke house Bbq (Electric smoker not wood fired). The 4 stars are for the overall experience, I would say that the food is a 3. This is a locals place but I felt right at home sitting at the bar. Everyone was very friendly and included me in the conversation. Would go back if I was in town. Based on the other reviews, I stayed away from the brisket and went with the pulled pork with mashed potatoes and baked beans. Everything was decent, no complaints. Stopped in during a road trip and my brother and I really liked this place. If you like wings you absolutely have to try the smoked wings with spicy blue cheese sauce! We also had the pulled pork and beef brisket sandwich. Both were really good but the beef brisket was great and was absolutely massive. We ordered food while at Hoodletown. They totally messed up our order. One couple ordered two flat breads and only got one, we ordered a brisket sandwich, wings and salad. Never got the brisket and when she did bring it, it was COLD, had three slices of onion and one slice of pepper. The wings tasted like old chicken. For $30.00 it terrible. We tossed everything and will never from Sammie's again. I don't recommend it at all. read more

Great surprise while passing through New Philadelphia. Greeted immediately when we arrived, everyone smiling and friendly. Ordered the brisket entree which was great. (1/2 portion was enough for me). Cooked perfectly and came with a great BBQ sauce on the side. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this to anyone looking for great BBQ.
