This place is a hole in the wall, bbq dive joint - in the best kind of way. I love places like this. We sat on the bar side. If you come in the back door you will walk through the kitchen to get in the bar. I thought that was awesome. The bartender was friendly and enthusiastic. We shared a sampler platter which was a good choice. Had a nice mix of their smoked meats. My wife loved it all especially the wings. I thought the brisket was a little dry but everything else was great. They have a wide selection of homemade sauces. We did the traditional BBQ sauce which was flavorful but not overly sweet. Way too many BBQ places treat side dishes as an afterthought, not this place. I am a Mac and cheese snob, no pastured cheese product here. It was a white cheese and shells real mac and cheese. Lousy service, cold food. arrived waiting for a friend. the hostess sat me and said the server would be right with me. 15 minutes later I went to the restroom and asked the collection of 3 waitresses who were doing nothing if anyone was assigned to my table. eventually my friend and I got our food. 10 wings that were ice cold that were eventually replaced with a different sauce because they were conveniently out of one. Waitress asked my friend (a regular) if he needed anything, but ignored me. flagged her down to order another beer, but never got the chance to request another blue cheese. 20 minutes later, had to get up and walk down to the bar looking for my beer. No patrons, no employees. flagged an arbitrary employee to get another drink. kicker was there was literally no other guests at 7:30 to prevent service. No one! First, the food was delicious. Had the outside sammy, and it was fantastic. Wife had the brisket and salmon. She said it was great. The server was a ding dong. There was one other table occupied while we were there. She was more concerned about who was going to do what at closing time, rather than serving customers. (It was 4pm when we got there) Since it is a BBQ place we asked what are the best side dishes that they have....her answer, SALAD. Prices were wrong on their menu. Outside Sammie is $14.50 on the menu, $16 was charged.I wasn't going to argue about $1.50 with ding dong waitress. The ramp going up to the entrance was covered in ground in filth. You need to take a pressure washer to it once a decade. read more

Used to stop here when I was in town for work. Retired, haven't been here in 5 years. Stopped yesterday, got the sampler. It's even better than I remembered. Not much of a place to look at, but the best barbecue I've eaten anywhere in the country!!! Everything great about this place. I was in town for work and saw this place. Anything with BBQ in the name grabs my attention. This place was busy at 5pm on a Thursday as well. I was greeted in a prompt friendly manner and service was friendly and timely. I got the BBQ sampler because why not. The meat did not have a strong smoke flavor (which I prefer) but the texture and flavor were both very good. The ribs were just under fall off the bone and were meaty. The brisket was a little bland but it was lean which I prefer. Pulled pork is chopped fine. The big winner were the smoked wings. The creamy sweet habanero really compliments the smoked flavor. Sides were also above average (mac n cheese and slaw). Baked Beans had a bit to broad of mixed beans for me, the only thing I didn't finish. Could do better (meant constructively) - the redskin potato salad was lame and tasteless; find another recipe. And the onion rings were a little too greasy; turn up the heat on your fryer. I saw a picture floating around Facebook of Sammy Sue's Mac and cheese burger, and it looked out of this world. I decided to give it a shot earlier this week. It was so good....that I got it again the next day. ‍ The burger was perfectly cooked, as was the pork. The flavor in each component was uniquely delicious, yet they worked together so well. The fries are delicious fair style fries. I was also amazed at the fact that the food still tasted fresh even after about an hour. How did it not get soggy? Wizardry. Great food at low prices. Passing thru found this on yelp so we gave it a go. I had three bone ribs with baked beans and mixed steamed vegetables. The baked beans alone were worth the price of the meal. Probably the best I've ever had anywhere. Just outstanding. The ribs were very good as well. The steam veggies I could've done without, they needed something, butter, salt, something. My wife had a salad, can't remember which one but she said it was outstanding. We also had the fried pickles appetizer. We felt they were bland, definitely required some kind of dipping sauce which they had. Typically I eat them without dipping them, but I could not do it with these. We plan to come back to this area more and we will definitely give this restaurant another visit. read more

After being in the car for over 10hrs on our drive back from a great vacation, we decided to trust the reviews for some BBQ. WOW! This place holds true to the reminder, "never judge a book by its cover." The food did NOT disappoint. 4 of us shared 2 samplers and we had more than enough food. Do NOT sub out the Mac and cheese! It's sooooo creamy and delish! The meat in the ribs just fell off and melted in your mouth. Brisket was perfectly cooked and the pulled pork adequately sauced without drowning in it. We will be dreaming of the cornbread for a long time to come. Our waitress was very accommodating with all of our questions as first timers and very attentive. It's rare to have amazing food that leaves the entire table moaning, "mmmmm this is soooo good" and great service in one place, but Sammy Sue's hit both nails on the head! Way to go! read more
