Service was great. We ordered the fried pickle spears...yum. My husband and I ordered the BBQ Platter (all brisket or 1/2 brisket and 1/2 pulled pork). I got the brisket, Mac n cheese, Cole slaw and a shrimp skewer. The Mac n cheese was good, the brisket reminded me of gyro meat (thinly sliced and uniform) and the shrimp skewer still tasted frozen. My wife and I met friends at a baseball tournament and afterwards we all stopped to eat before our friends headed home. We were super excited for BBQ on Father's Day! Unfortunately, we were severely let down by Hog Heaven. I'll start with this; it took 30 min to get an appetizer and an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. The appetizer: we ordered the nachos and 30 minutes later we received a plate with nachos, melted cheese and a few bites of brisket. It was supposed to be brisket nachos with black beans, tomatoes, corn, jalapeños cheese and brisket. When we sent it back because it was missing ingredients, the waitress was rude and what we got back was even worse than what we had at first. We also ordered corn bread (not served with meals like most BBQ restaurants) as an appetizer. When we got it, it wasn't only cold, it was almost solid in the middle like it was out of the freezer. When we finally received our meals an hour and 15 minutes after we sat down, my wife's tuna steak bowl (pictured) was so dry that it was inedible. The sauce that was in it looked dry like it had sat under a lamp for 30 minutes. It also smelled bad. Not like tuna. But very gamey. My ribs, although tender, were cold. The green beans and potato were good, but after biting into cold pork, I had lost my appetite. When I asked for our food to be taken back, the waitress cut me off and said she'd get a manager. 15 minutes later the manager who was very nice came over and apologized and took our food and took away the bill. Let's start with the positives: the firecrackers were okay, baked beans were tasty, and the mashed potatoes were okay plain. Now let's start with the overwhelmingly negatives: to start, the portions. The brisket is literally two pieces about 3.5-4 inches long (seriously)? The pulled pork was dry, and they did not include gravy with the potatoes. Never one to miss out on trying bbq, we did. It was ok, portions were small for the two meat choice of bbq and brisket. Again encountered the 'thinly sliced' brisket. We googled and found Hog Heaven BBQ in Dover. When we arrived it was about 45 minutes from closing, still time to order a bite to eat. We came in the door and sat at a table. There were several tables and the bar with customers at them. Everyone, of course noticed us. My husband is Native American and I am half with White. No one greeted us, kind of understandable. The Owner or Manager was standing beside the door talking to folks as we came in. I noticed he didn't speak to us. The waitress came shortly and we placed our order. She was a young girl and very polite. My husband placed an order for a Mushroom Swiss Burger with cheese and mushrooms only w/fries. When our food came, it was covered with garlic pieces. They weren't even on the sandwich description in the menu. We called the waitress and she couldn't even understand why they were on there. I offered to switch and eat it until he turned over the top bun to put on the sandwich. It was BURNT BLACK!!! Totally unacceptable to send to any customer. She apologized and went to have the cook prepare another bun. We told her to just take it off our ticket because it is not a good idea to send food back to the kitchen and my husband told me that as the owner walked passed him before we ordered, he said hello to him and he just looked at him without speaking and walked into the kitchen. The Cook brought a perfect bun to us but we still chose to have it removed from our ticket. We shared my plate, which was cooked fine. Tried this place on the advice of our hosts at the bed & breakfast where we're staying. My husband ordered the pork chop w/sides of coleslaw and mac & cheese. The pork chop was delicious as was the mac & cheese while the coleslaw was average. I ordered the pulled pork and beef brisket combo w/sides of potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was homemade and very good. The pulled pork was also good. The beef brisket & baked beans were average at best. My problem with the meal was the boring & bland sweet BBQ sauce. I asked for hot BBQ sauce and was given a bowl of sauce that pretty much tasted like Tabasco. If you're going to make good pulled pork, you should have several great BBQ sauces to put on it! read more

Terrible wait time for food, especially when it's pre-made. We waited 40 mins for our food they weren't to busy and the table next to use ordered after us and got theirs 15 mins before us. My pulled pork was not seasoned at all, coleslaw warm so that was gross. Out of pulled pork mac and cheese hamburger fries and beef brisket the FIRES were the best.. Well this is disappointing to write as I heard such good things about this place however my experience was 2 stars at bestRibs were of good taste but talk about tiny portion with very little meat on the bones. I am used to nice thicker cut brisket, what they serve here is thinner than lunch meat at the deli with similar taste. The pulled pork was so salty we didn't even eat it. Not sure what the Cole slaw recipe is so save your money and go with beans or something else. There are two other real BBQ joints in the area, take your money there as they are 5 stars. My wife and I went to the Dover location for dinner tonight. First the good: the ribs and sides were very good and the service was friendly, attentive and very professional. The bad: we went on a Sunday night and the place featured live music played at the threshold of pain. I get that there are folks who like this type of environment but we were primarily interested in eating. We were told there was outdoor seating in addition to the indoor area where the band was performing. We gladly accepted this option. Unfortunately what we were not told was that this was the designated smoking area for those who like cigarette smoke with their ribs and also serves as the location of choice for loud profane smoker drunks taking a break from the music. While the food and service were very good they weren't worth the assault on our ears, lungs and sense of acceptable behavior in a public restaurant. I should add that my wife and I are in our late sixties - maybe it's a generational thing. Also, we are from Maryland where smoking in restaurants, even in outdoor areas, hasn't been allowed for many years. read more

I visited the Dover/Wooster location. Wasn't crowded for a Friday evening at 7pm. Seated promptly. As for the food, I had an appetizer of the breaded mushrooms that were quite delicious. For my main course I had the combination dinner of Ribs and pulled pork. The BBQ sauce was very sweet and typical of northern BBQ. The ribs were tender and the pulled pork was served neat in its own juices with sauce on the side. The bad: why diminish the quality of your BBQ with frozen premade Steuffers macaroni and cheese?!? I'm not ignorant to what that tastes like! You can't fool me. The coleslaw that I had as my second side didn't taste fresh. The cabbage had no crispy bite to it, rather wilted and watered down. The excess moisture can be from the kitchen needing to change out the blade on the food processor and/or the current time sitting since being prepped. This location is more laid back than New Philadelphia, OH location. Walked into the restaurant and was able to seat ourselves upon entering. As soon as we sat down we were greeted and drink orders taken. Waiter came back directly and we were able to order quickly. Side salad came out and I was taken back at how big it was and actually tasty for a side salad. Most restaurants give you lettuce and shredded cheese but this salad had green peppers, onions, black olives, lots of cheese and lettuce. My boyfriend and I stopped here while visiting family and were so happy. We got the nachos, brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. The meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. The nachos were loaded with toppings and delicious. There was only one server, I think her name was Megan, and she did a great job! This is one of my favorite BBQ places ever. I love their sauce. I usually get the pulled pork sandwich and most of their sides are good. This is the smallest of their restaurants and I believe the original. It has been around many years. My husband and I have been eating at Hog Heaven for many years, but after the past 2 visits have decided to never go back. The nachos we ordered many times have been reduced to less than half the portion we were used to, then the last time we were there we ordered a Steak Salad and a Pulled Pork Salad, neither of which had enough lettuce to cover the bottom of the platter. I wrote a complaint on our bill when we paid but the waitress didn't even acknowledge it. We will never go back - for the prices they charge it's not worth it. Very skimpy portions! read more

I am pretty sure the pulled pork is from a can. Very unhappy about that because that is why I go to a Pork BBQ restaurant. Ribs were good. Coleslaw was best part of my meal. Onion rings were crispy. This Original Hog Heaven in Parral is the best of all of them! Friday night wings and beer at the bar with classic rock and blues from the speakers. Food is better than typical biker bar grub, not as fatty as others. Ribs are excellent, wings are too.
