I hadn't been to Baker's in almost 30 years die to life circumstances and moving out of the area. I took my husband for his birthday this past Saturday, and they rebuilt the place nicely after the fire I heard they had. It's much more spacious now. As for the food; my husband ordered a ribeye steak medium rare and he loved it. He said it was so delicious and cooked perfectly and that he didn't even need steak sauce. I ordered the small strip and it was as fantastic as I remember. We both had baked potatoes and they were just ok. We also ordered desserts; he had a hot fudge sundae and I had a slice of coco or cream pie which was always my favorite. It was exactly as I remembered. It was so delicious, and the slice was huge. The server in the other hand seemed very irritated and didn't seem engaged in serving us at all. Maybe he was having a bad day but in my opinion he shouldn't have been serving. We still left an 18% tip, and with the tip and dessert we came out for a total bill just shy of $100. It's great for a special occasion but pricing is too high unfortunately to make it a regular date night spot. We went out for my birthday on a Wednesday night, and the food was phenomenal. The server was attentive and informative. For an appetizer, we ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was not fishy, and the cocktail sauce was just right. I was informed about Baker's Restaurant some time ago and finally giving it a go. Living in Canton, Ohio I was unfamiliar with the area of the restaurant as I would have never seen it. It is not located in the best area and you have to go through a pretty sketchy neighborhood with a lot of street cats that you have to avoid hitting while driving. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building is aluminum in appearance with modest decor on the inside, but don't let that sway your judgement as the limited menu also enables you to make a decision quickly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prices in protein options could be considered moderate to high. All other options are priced reasonably and the desserts are so well priced that you have to try even if you are stuffed. The service was amazing. It seemed like a who's who of Canton patrons inside when we arrived. I saw several familiar faces inside. We were asked for our drink order and glasses of ice water automatically came without request. We were then asked if we wanted to start with an appetizer and we chose the Fried Ravioli which were amazing. A basket of bread and butter also came out. It was room temperature. I wish it was warmed as it was presented in a dinner cloth. We ordered our main entrees which came with a garden salad. We both chose the White French dressing as this would be the second time of us trying this in Ohio. It was very good, a tad sweet and definitely dressed heavily. Our steaks both arrived and at first glance I noticed that my wife's steak appeared larger than mine. There wasn't an even sear and no crust so I really didn't know what to expect. Well, I carved into the rib cap aka dorsi spinalis and met with a flavor profile guaranteed to make your your tastebuds do a happy dance. This wasn't a dry age taste. This was seasoned perfectly and required nothing else. No onions needed. No mushrooms needed. The flavor was out of this world and instantly gave me a reason for wanting to visit again. To be honest the hash browns were just okay and needed seasoning and my wife's fries were like boardwalk fries which I am not a fan of but she enjoyed them. My wife liked the flavor of her steak so much she was dipping her fries into the steak juice aka myoglobin. We ordered dessert to go because you couldn't beat the price. The plain cheesecake was was awesome and didn't spike my blood sugar. My wife enjoyed her chocolate cream pie as it was gone in a few minutes. Kudos Bakers. The six of us ate here last night. First, we had reservations and were seated promptly. I ordered it medium rare which is probably the most common order at a steak house. My steak was tough, light pink on the inside, and curiously thin. I took most of it home. For my side I ordered green beans. My beans arrived at room temperature and were clearly right out of a can. I didn't complain - this is what you get from Bakers on a Thursday night. This sweet little hidden gem of a place is totally worth going off the beaten path. I have never been here before, sadly, but I had heard good things. Our server, Steve was super attentive and friendly. The ribeyes were well-marbled, buttery, and wonderful. Loved everything I tasted, right down to the salad dressing. I truly wish I weren't doing low-carb right now, because the cheesecakes look absolutely amazing. My toddler wasn't eating much, but he enjoyed the fresh and hearty bread that Steve brought out. This place doesn't look like much from the outside. The neighborhood is fairly industrial. But just ignore all that and GO. I thought everything was reasonably priced. One of my close friends' family is from that neighborhood and he was telling me how it has changed over the years, and how Bakers used to look before it was sadly destroyed by fire. Sadly another Canton Legend falling into mediocrity. This evening a group of 16, reservation made in advance, for our yearly get together at this establishment. I had ordered finger foods for enjoyment during a half hour cocktail social. Things went seriously downhill from this point. We had one server, she was also assigned tables in the main room. The service on the whole was deplorable and at time flippant. The time to take our order was slow and the time to receive it slower. The cocktails were less than stellar. We had to ask for water. When the time came for ordering dinner we were advised we had a choice of three entrees. I was not advised of this when making the reservation nor at any of gatherings there. The server said that is what the owner/chef decided. When asked to speak to the manager the reply was, "He isn't going to come out here!" Repeatedly asking and the same response. Finally, the server went to talk with him and he said he would agree to add two more items to our offerings. That is a far cry from ordering from the menu. Additionally, there was no choice allowed for our sides. Not being able to move 16 people to another location we had no choice. The filets served were excellent. The toppings were deplorable. The mushrooms were of the canned and unfavorable variety and the onions were rings of white onions that appeared to be microwaved, not grilled. To say they were horrid is an understatement. This place depends on the locals that have dined there for years and there are plenty. Sadly, the actions of the staff and high headedness of the owner/manager has ruined what little respect I had for this Canton relic. Assuredly, Canton has some wonderful and historic eateries. We had an amazing meal at Baker's today. It has been YEARS since I have been there and it just happened to be close to the area we were in today. We had the fried ravioli and the chorizo appetizers. The ravioli was basic and what you would expect but the chorizo was a little more special and very good. My sister and I both ordered the salmon for dinner and our waiter (Jonathon - great waiter!) told us to make sure we try the orange roughy next time. This prompted my sister to change her order! Our food came and we were both very happy. The salmon was cooked perfectly medium and she was thrilled with the fish. The only thing that made this meal even better was the homemade cheesecake- amazing! I live in Columbus but will be coming to the area more often and will definitely stop at Bakers when I have time. Did not ask if I wanted more drink just literally swiped my drink and ran with it. So it has been over 8 years since I have dined at Baker's. After reading many of the review I was a little worried things may have gone downhill. When I arrived the placed looked different. Evidently they had to rebuild after a fire. The bar is now right when you walk in. I was alone so asked if the bar was full service, which it was. I immediately saw Jim whom I recognized from years ago. He is an amazing server so that made me happy immediately. Jim waited on me at the bar and he was as great as I remembered. I ordered my usual. Large strip, beets (normally get the hash brown but watching carbs) and the salad with house Italian dressing. Also ordered the deviled eggs which were new. The steak was just as I remembered. Cooked perfect and just fantastic. I have often thought of the taste from that first bite over the years. Damn it was as good as I remember. The beets and salad we also delicious. The deviled eggs were spot on with a little bacon on top. Overall just an amazing dinner. I truly do not understand the negativity but let me assure you this place is money. I lived in Canton for my first 18 years and had heard of Bakers through my grandpa, but had never been. I know that he orders steaks from there to take home and cook, but I've never had them until now. I went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner so I didn't have to pay nor did we get a menu so I feel my experience was a bit different than most. I eat typically vegetarian, but was open to eating steak because I heard it was the best around. The other options were fish and chicken. The steak was great; cooked perfect! And it came with a side of baked potato and some toppings. We got a salad as well then I had the home made red velvet cheesecake. I would probably go with another dessert option next time. The Oreo pie and banana cream pie looked bomb. Overall good experience and if I'm up for just meat options I would go back. Can't speak to the price though based on portion. read more

Failed to meet the hype. Baker's is a staple in Canton and best known for their steaks. So before I even saw the menu I knew it was going to order the ribeye. Nearly $30 for a 12oz ribeye made me think twice, but I figured it had to be worth it. Salad comes first. Nothing at all special. Bagged salad . A bit disappointing. Steak comes out on its own plate. Butter and grease surround the rim of the plate. Take a bite, bland. No seasoning. I then salt, pepper and butter to make it taste better. To say the least, I was disappointed with the steak. Fries were nothing special. Topped it off with pie at the end of the night. Pretty good. Three stars. The third is because it is a locally owned location. Not worth the price of admission. read more

I love old school restaurants that have a lot of charm and nostalgia. In the greater Canton area you can have your pick of boring ass chain restaurants. Blah!!! I walked into this restaurant and it reminded me of the great bars and restaurants from another time. Wood paneling on the walls, vinyl seating and a large bar with a lot of swivel seats. Is this heaven ?? I ordered the shrimp cocktail @ $6.75. Ask for a side of horseradish. The house oil and vinegar dressing was great. I wish that I had a little more lettuce. The Delmonico Ribeye Steak at 24.95 was cooked perfectly. Their home fries are a must. They are cooked up on a circa 1963 cast iron flat top grill. Absolutely amazing. I ordered their homemade rice pudding. Thanks for not putting raisins in the bottom. Yuck! The desert tasted like vanilla ice cream. Yum !! Give me some more !
