Best bbq I've ever had! The homemade chips were soooooo good. Great service. I'll definitely be back.

I went in the winter and it was freezing in there. I am normally warm and I am not one to complain about the cold so believe me, it's freezing. The appetizers are good! Got the pretzels and highly recommend. The mozzarella sticks were average mozzarella sticks. I got a burger which I ordered medium well and it was rare. It was some type of hot burger (I want to say the firehouse) and it was a total disappointment. My husband got the wings and he loved them! They were smoked and fell off the bone. Was passing through Dover with my wife and we were hungry. While the exterior doesn't shout great food, you would be a fool to not go in. Everything on the menu looks good. We chose this place because it sounded laid back and not commercial. We had 3 types of wings and ribs along with appetizers. We got seated right off, waitress was very friendly and attentive as well as knowledgeable about the choices we were making. Food came quick and the wings were perfect. Ribs were very good although a bit saucy for my taste but we will go back for wings as soon as we get back to the next of the woods. They were perfectly cooked, perfect wings. read more

Do not judge the outdoor decor, this place has great bbq and other great American classics. We always come here when we visit from out of town and the service is always good. You have to try the potato boats they are big and very filling. read more

I love BBQ. I live locally and for the last year my family and I have come about 6-7 times to eat for dinner and have been highly disappointed. Brisket is like roast beef and dry. It shouldn't need to be slathered in BBQ sauce to taste good. And I've ordered that multiple times hoping for a difference. Pulled pork is bland. The only consistent thing is the BBQ sauce and mac and cheese which are very good. Instead of going to Sammy Sue's, I'll smoke my own meat and it tastes 10x better or go to Sublime Smoke who has great BBQ that's only 15 minutes north. read more

Love the brisket and pulled pork. Homemade sides are awesome too. We often order family style, by the pound so we have a buffet! Good stuff!

Sammy Sue's has great food. The smoked chicken is one of my favorites, so moist and flavorful. Add some BBQ sauce to it and it is even better. The ribs are great too! And for some more heart attack inducing fabulously tasty food, try the loaded potato skins with pulled pork on them. They're a meal by themselves. Wish there was a window in the place but the great food always makes a stop there when we're in town worthwhile. read more

Read the rave reviews and figured what the hell...I love BBQ. Tried the wings (got 1/2 smoked and 1/2 fried) and was not disappointed. Probably should've ordered more wings instead of the fried pickles, but we were feeling adventurous. Everyone in our party ordered something different and all left stuffed. Their Mac and cheese side is the bomb. I was expecting maybe a few more options in the BBQ sauce dept...and maybe some rolls with the meal, considering the price. The dining area is a little tight, and is not "large party friendly." It's also loud and lacks privacy. Bathrooms are small and leave a lot to be desired (men's room sink was not working). I would eat there again, but I'm not sure if Sue's lives up to their 5 star rating on food alone, without some basic renovations. Service was OK. Did not experience the bar area. read more

Repeat wing night customer ever since I drove by and saw that it wasn't Rosie's anymore. Great sauces and service! My only complaint is about 10% of the time they come out too dry. I'll still be going back for the smoked wings. read more

Friendly, attentive and efficient staff and solidly good food. The building is old but seems well maintained as opposed to giving you a "run down" feeling and despite the obvious age of the dining room it was noticeably CLEAN! My wife and I had the ribs, smoked brisket, rice and cole slaw. The mains were good and the sides were excellent. Some times it's the simple things that make a meal great. We'll be back to sample the rest of the menu for sure. read more

We went in last night for the Monday Special,,,,Homemade Country Fried Chicken Dinner sounds yummy right,,,,dont take the time to go in on a Monday,service was fine but here is the Special,,,,1 hard chicken strip,a glob of instant mashed potatoes,a sppon of gravy,thats it no side salad no rolls definately not homemade fried chicken as described,sorry folks but Mondays at Sammy Sue,s is off our weekly eating schedule...they do have a decent burger though.. read more

Sammy Sue's is a wonderful surprise of a gem in, of all places, Dover, Ohio. There is no better place on the planet for chili - the best! OMG, the brisket - the thought of a brisket "Sammy" makes my mouth water. My family also gives thumbs up for the pretzels, the BBQ chips, and the BBQ'd chicken! Not good. We went and got some wings because they are supposed to be "known" for them... The first time we had some at a friends party, they were alright at best.. they seem to over cook the wings often. They were actually black on the outside of the meat and had a slight burnt taste to them. Second time i went in for them, i had to give them a second chance, since people were still talking about them! It was even worse, the inside is very dark and doesnt appear to be the cleanest. Tables were kind of sticky, the waitresses gather at a little podium in the middle of the room and kind of just hover there. I guess you can get their famous wings smoked or fried since i had the smoked before and they were smoked to death i thought i would try them friend then tossed in sauce. WOW were they ever awful, talk about being dead, the meat was suctioned to the bone, it was so dry almost like jerky. I felt like i was choking even trying to eat them. Good think i ordered some fries with it. I wasnt impressed with it, i think i can make better bbq at home in all honesty. read more

I would give this less than one star if I could. Everyone raved about the wings here, so I finally gave in and tried them. Matter of fact I have TRIED multiple times to buy what this place is selling. BUT its just NOT good. I feel bad for the others posting, because its obvious they have never had real, good BBQ in their lives, because this place isn't it. First off, the owner blatantly copied the rice recipe from a former employer, The Texas Roadhouse, which I cant appreciate, but in turn makes it one of the only things I can stand eating at this place. Second the wings are smoked TO DEATH. They are dry, and seemed to have been accidentally left in the smoker for weeks. The only way they are any good is if you have the bbq ones, that way the bbq sauce kind of drowns out the ridiculous amount of smoke they put on their food. They have multiple sauces that sound really good, but put some spicy garlic sauce on a wing that is smoked to death, all you can taste is the smoke, and the sauce tastes funny then. Its almost sickening. Also I made the mistake by trying the wings fried, I literally almost choked on the wing, the meat practically splintered because it was so dry, I thought I was going to choke on them. My boyfriend had the brisket which was also dry. The restaurant never appears to be clean to me. Its quite dark, and the tables are sticky. The servers all gather at one point in the small dining room, and it feel like they are all just staring at you while you eat. I noticed someone else mentioned the potato skins with pulled pork on them, it seems they got that idea from another well known bbq joint that they had worked at previously, along with the rice from the other place they had worked at previously. Picking one of the 2 other bbq places is your best bet. Nothing original here, its all other restaurant's ideas executed terribly. read more
