The Sidewalk Pad Thai serves the dish like Bangkok street vendors - with dried shrimp and plenty of spicy dried chilis. Keep an eye on the chili icon scale next to each plate on the menu - and strictly adhere to it! No need to be a spice hero at this place because there is a wide selection of single or zero-chili meals that burst with flavor. That goes for the panang red curry (pictured) that comes with your choice of beef, pork, chicken, or tofu simmering in a bath of creamy coconut milk-based soup-like nectar of the gods. A side of jasmine or sticky rice is essential to soaking up every drop. Each dish comes out fairly quickly and piping hot. That starts with the snacks menu. I recommend starting with an order of skewers - either chicken or BBQ pork (pictured below) that is served alongside a sweet duck sauce with a little chili kick. The star of the show is a dry, tangy white wine: Txakoli. If you can't pronounce it, just tell the bartender you want the wine poured from up high and make sure you keep an eye on them. Holy. F@#$ing. Sh!t. I never write reviews. But Same Same -- you f@#$ed up my order for the last time. I used to live close by and I've ordered takeout from here many times. That's because the food is pretty solid. Or at least, for the Silverlake Sunset Junction neighborhood. But my God, they have NEVER had an order ready REMOTELY when they said they would. There's always a delay. There's always some excuse. There's always some chaos happening -- no matter what day of the week -- that somehow ALWAYS prevents them from being ready when they say they're ready. Listen, you want to order from them? Cool. Just take whatever time they give you and add 25+ minutes to it -- even if they SAY IT'S READY. That is, of course, unless you love your time getting wasted. I participated in the Dine LA special for restaurant week. It's going on next week as well! You get an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $35. I got the pork skewers, the crab noodles, and the mango sticky rice. The other appetizer options are spring rolls or papaya salad. Everything was really delicious. The pork skewers were great with the Thai chili sauce. The crab noodles had a lot of crab and were sweet and were made with the same noodles as pad Thai. The mango was super ripe and sweet and the sticky rice was yummy and coconuty. I think it was a really great deal because we got a lot of great food and it came with a drink. In addition, I think the restaurant atmosphere was also nice. The service was really nice and the parasols on the ceiling were very pretty. Location/Experience: 10/10 There's a small parking lot in front with pretty narrow spots and luckily, we were able to get the last spot! We arrived at the restaurant around 7:30pm on a Thursday night and were able to get a high table in the back right away. There were plenty of seats at the bar left, too. The decorations around the bar were cute and I loved the fun lighting and general ambiance. Taste: 10/10 We came for DineLA, which has a limited menu to choose from. I ordered the BBQ Pork Skewers, Crab Noodles, Tapioca Pudding with Coconut, and Coconut Thai Iced Tea. The BBQ Pork Skewers were so tender and well seasoned. The Crab Noodles came out piping hot and there was crab in every bite. The rice noodles were chewy and the sauce was a little sweet, which I hadn't expected, but it was super delicious, and we got a huge bowl of crab noodles! I was so full by the time the Tapioca Pudding with Coconut came out, but it was really good. I liked the foam on top and that you could definitely taste the coconut and pandan. The Coconut Thai Iced Tea tasted a little watery, but that may have been because it used coconut milk, instead of regular milk. Value: 10/10 The set meal for DineLA was $35, and after tax and tip, I ended up paying $45. I came here with a group for dinner on a weekday, and we were seated right away. By the time we left, there were other parties waiting in a line outside! They require masks inside, unless you're eating at your table. They had hand sanitizer at every table. The restroom is in the back of the restaurant. There is a small parking lot, but I wouldn't count on it. It's probably best to ride share here or find street parking elsewhere and walk. There was a happy hour menu. We had some very good sangrias for $7 each. Also on the happy hour menu, we ordered papaya salad, chicken satay, laab (minced chicken) that comes with cabbage, and fried chicken wings. Honestly, I'd get all of them again. They were so good. The chicken wings were unique because they separated the bones. Each wing was basically half. The chicken satay was so good - I wish the portion size was bigger. For entrees, we tried the panang curry with chicken and pad see ew with beef. We got mild level of spicy, and they were both tolerable. The portion sizes were more for individual and not family style. We needed to get another bowl of jasmine rice for the curry. We split the bill, and it came out to about $28-30 per person. Service was ok. The food is very different from other Thai places I have eaten but they make it work. We got 2 dishes and were greeted by our servers quickly. Food came out relatively fast and drink selection was really good. The Thai iced tea was the highlight of my meal since it actually tasted of tea and not watered down sugar most places I have tried. The menu lists all these dishes as ones that can be made vegan, but they actually came and tasted a little fish sauce-y, and the fishy taste lingered after. Not sure if that was a one-off communication issue with the kitchen or if this is always how it is but I don't think I'll be back for food with the other dependable vegan/vegetarian Thai options in the area. Tucked away in a small lot in Silverlake is a nice Thai gem! The ambiance and decor here are perfect for a date! The seats are set up for 2 people only so it's a bit of work if you have bigger groups just FYI as they would need to pull tables to combine together. It's a tight-knit small restaurant that can probably seat about 30 max but it still feels airy and spacious with the bar. I'm in love with the lightning and vibes here - lovely red tones throughout and very romantic feeling with the big neon sign in the entrance of the restaurant. The top of the restaurant is lined with nice umbrellas too! As for food - I had the Thai Dim Sum (very innovative), Thai Crudites (later found out that it's just raw vegetables!), Apple Salad with cashews and chilies on top, Ribeye steak grilled, Crispy Shrimp and Cabbage, Chu Chee Salmon and Penang Curry (secret menu item would definitely recommend), coconut flan and tapioca pudding. The coconut flan has real coconut meat inside the flan as well! I found the food to be great tasting full of flavors and decent portions for the price but mainly the ambiance here is just so good! Highly recommend the jade noodles as they are vegan and made with vegetables to give it that unique green color plus they are super long and stretchy so perfect for those noodle pull photos. Same Same has some really delicious Thai cuisine! Wednesdays include 50% off bottles of wine, so definitely keep that in mind. This place is not your typical Thai restaurant. They have a long bar area on the right and then some tables adjacent to that. In the back of the restaurant there are three additional high tables with stools. I must shout out the waitress Tida, who remembered me from a visit a few months ago. She even remembered what I ordered. Excellent service all around! I liked the tom kha gai, thai dim sum, waterfall beef, pad kee mao, crab fried rice, shrimp kapow...basically everything here was delicious! This place is a very solid 4/5, I mean that as a compliment. We got the beef pad see ew, veggie pad kee Mao, & Thai sausage fried rice. The noodles were fantastic, 5 star material. The beef was tender & more flavorful than most. The Thai sausage fried was OK, the sausage was on the sweet side for my savor boyfriend & the rice a little bland. Everything over all was flavorful without being super oily which I really appreciate, everything ate very clean. They have a very covid safe regimen for pick up, you wait outside and they'll bring it out to you. We called in and it took about 50 minutes for our food to be ready. Came here over the weekend to get some Thai food. I am not sure why my friend wanted to come all the way here to get Thai food to be honest. Per reviews and photos, this place looked average at best. The are located in the corner of a very small strip mall so parking is pretty limited. We lucked out and caught someone leaving as we were entering. We had a party of 5 without reservations but got seated right away. The restaurant gives a hipster vibe due to the location, decor and the music. It is too dim and dark in my opinion though. We were starving, so we ordered a bunch of food. Tom Kha (Coconut Galangal Soup) - Chicken broth, coconut milk, herbs, and fresh mushrooms. I really loved this soup. It is basically what Thai food is. The soup was salty, spicy, sour, rich and creamy. I would get this again and again every day. Peek Gai Tod (Fried Chicken Wings) - Crunchy basil leaves, scallions, and chili. This was a bit odd as they do not fry the entire chicken wing. The half the wings and then they fry it. Really crispy and flavorful but a tad on the salty side. Pa Pia Sod (Fresh Spring Roll) - Prawns, pork, tofu, bean sprouts, chive, cucumber, and serrano with tamarind sauce. I really enjoyed this dish. It was light but full of flavor and that serrano chili gave it a nice kick in the end. Pa Pia Tod (Crispy Veggie Spring Roll) - Mung bean noodle, cabbage, carrot, black mushroom, plum chili sauce, and fresh herbs. Nothing to see here, just your average fried spring rolls. Pad Thai - Thai national dish. Thin rice noodles with chives, egg, bean sprouts, and sweet radish. Served with lime and crushed peanuts. One of the better Pad Thai's I've had recently. I love how the noddles had a bite and chewy texture. Panang (Red Curry) - Coconut cream, kaffir lime, serrano chili, fish sauce, and sweet basil. I love Thai curries in general and this was no exception. Nua Yang (Grilled Ribeye Steak) - Marinated in garlic, peppercorn, and cilantro root. Served with spicy Thai jaew and "crying tiger" sauce. Probably the most disappointing dish of the night. The steak was overcooked and tough. I understand its a ribeye, but there was about 50% fat and 50% meat. The fat wasn't even rendered. Pretty bland as well. Kapow (Chili and Holy Basil) - Garlic, green beans, and serrano chili. Good flavors but overly salty. If I were in the area and I would be craving Thai food, I would come back. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here again. The food is solid for the most part. Service was the best thing as they were really friendly. My first experience with Same Same just happened at this awesome pop up for Chang Beer, and after I tried this dish I was hooked, soooo good. The picture I have for it says it all, but you need to go and try it for yourself to experience the flavor and preperation of the dish, totally recommend. Also, we tried the wings before I dug into this and they were tasty also. It feels like everything falls off the bone here. The chicken in the big dish was so juicy, it must have been stewing with the juices a hot minute before I got to it. Totally recommend this spot if you are passing by or looking for a new Thai place. I'm a hard core Thai eater, and feel there is a lot of really great Thai in Los Angeles, and this is among the best! What led me here from my usual spot is a dish called Khao Soi that I had when I was in Chiang Mai, and the version here was a gateway dish - it was so good that I tried so many other dishes from here since that dish. Below is what I've tried: Khao Soi - 5 Stars. This is a sweet curry coconut dish served with noodles, chicken, pickled veggies and crispy nooldes on top. The version here is addictive, sweet and savory at the same time, and absolutely fantastic! Pad see Ew - 5 Stars. I've had this over 2 dozen times in my life, and this is among the best. GET THIS! Chicken Satay w Peanut Sauce - 5 Stars. The chicken skewers are cooked perfectly, and the peanut sauce here if the perfect consistency, super creamy and not runny with an awesome flavor. Same Same is an appropriate name. Definitely not bad but not the best Thai I have had either. Unfortunately for them it is probably not their fault. Many of the items felt a bit too Americanized and lost some of the amazing flavor and spice you will get in Thailand. We asked for our dishes to be "Thai" spicy, but they still must have seen our pale faces because the heat was not really there. With all that said the Laab was good, and their version of Thai sausage was fine. The big miss, which was recommended, was the Kapow Crispy Pork.
