This place was a real treat! We found them on DineLA and what a great meal and deal. Hubby started with fried tofu. I had the shrimp salad. I want to go back and have the oyster mushroom salad. He had the jungle curry and I had the black pepper and garlic fried tofu for the mains. He went with the flan and I had the green tapioca pudding for dessert. I liked his better. Mine was a little too sweet for my personal taste and it all came with a glass of sangria. What!?! All for $35/pp. The service was outstanding. Food is good, but the real reason I keep coming back is the care and attention the staff shows towards my daughter's nut allergy. They go to great effort to make sure we don't order something that would be problematic for her and to ask if we need additional accomodations. This has been across the board with every server so clearly management had made this a priority and taken the time to make a protocol to ensure the safety of their clients. What a great find! My buddy and I were getting ready to call it a day, and we were looking for good dining options. We found our dinner spot here, thanks to my handy Yelp app. Found in the gentrified Echo Park area, this intimately lit Thai restaurant is great to bring a date or friends. I noticed that they had many options of wine and bubbly. I went with a glass of pinot noir. For food, I ordered their spicy chicken soup in a lemony broth. My buddy ordered the grilled chicken. The soup was legitimately spicy, which is excellent considering some restaurants forget to actually make their food spicy. The soup was a perfect mix of lean chicken, veggies, spiciness, and complemented well with brown rice. My buddy's grilled chicken came in huge portions. He shared half with me, so I had a very hearty meal that evening. The staff was amazing. They had a very positive attitude, and were warm and welcoming. Great service. We were greeted and seated and graced with happy hour wine in a jiffy. But as I bit into the squid appetizer dish I knew I was in for some mediocre Thai food. The papaya salad was lazily chopped, some strands still stuck, poorly dressed and throw in a terrible serving dish. The Tom kha was watery and just too sweet, chill with the sugar kitchen. The beef salad was terribly balanced, the vegetable spring rolls were old. I don't think I'd be back anytime soon with so many amazing Thai places in Hollywood. read more

Was just a witness to some horrible customer service provided by the manager. A young man rolled up to pick up food that he had ordered on the phone. Once he got here, the girl at the front door was trying to talk through the door asking him his name. Once she came back to the door she informed him that she gave his order to another customer. He had Uber'd 30min over here from where he lives and now has no food. They said they were sorry and if he wanted he can wait an additional 15/20min to get a new order ready... while still he charged. So, money spent on Uber, for zero food, got asked to wait more time and STILL be charged. Horrible customer service in my option. Take care of the guy. Apologize, Comp his meal, apologize more, offer discount on future visit and apologize more. Come one. CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT WHATS CONVENIENT TO THE BUSINESS. read more

A very quiet Monday night choice for some Thai food. There was no wait At all and our waitress brought us waters and menus almost immediately. The food came out super quick, too. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and it was surprisingly extremely filling. If your looking for something soupy but not as heavy as a curry I would recommend. My friend got the Pad See Ew with tofu and it also was filling and cooked well. We ordered the veggie spring rolls and I would not recommend. Honestly the Trader Joe's vegetable rolls are better and it was $8 for three fried rolls. Not flavorful or exciting. The service was great and the spot was really cute! read more

Overall I give same same a solid 3.5 stars. Here are the pros-cons so you can decide for yourself. Pros- -Intimate-romantic atmosphere. Great overall ambiance. Dimly lit with interesting Tchotchkes like umbrella light fixtures and buddhas throughout. -Chicken wings were very flavorful although slightly on the small side -Egg rolls were crispy and delicious -Green curry penang was very delicious/flavorful but very SPICY. Proceed with caution. Cons- -Limited wine selection that was very overpriced with small pours for each glass. -Curry did not come with rice. You have to pay extra for a side of rice. -Pad Ew Sew- overall really good but the portion was definitely on the smaller side In summary, if you want Thai food with cool ambiance and don't care to much about the price this place could be for you. Everything I've ordered from Same Same has been delicious, fresh-tasting, well-seasoned, etc. Specifically, the Pad Kee Mao and the Pad See Ew. So good! The chef is paying attention to subtle stuff like the fact that the best Pad See Ew is savory with only a tiny bit of sweetness (lots of Thai places seem to make this dish sickly sweet). Every dish delivered; the service was excellent; the leftovers are epic. Because we eat Thai frequently (in each city we visit, including Bangkok), novel-sounding food items are rare.. but Same Same has built an intriguing little menu that left us with some tough choices! I'm eating leftover laab for breakfast as I type, while -- sit with this -- typically I don't even take a second bite it at the table (and wonder what her deal with it is). The green apple salad also: amazing the next morning; restores the tissues. Wings were outstanding, grilled squid cooked perfectly, ribeye portion large and well-seasoned. And, wine selection is cool. I'm all about the German wines, and to see 2+ on such a short list is remarkable. This is a Northern Thailand dish and after visiting Thailand last year I have been on the lookout for a place who makes it! It is a spicy curry dish that has some scrunchies on top which adds an extra thumbs up from me! I also tried my fiance's soup (Tom Kha- coconut based) which was one of the best I have tried. It was very flavorful and spicy to my liking! I would definitely order form here again and maybe get another curry to try, but would definitely stick with these 2 orders again too! We did order take out, but when I went inside to pick it up the restaurant was very loud and I couldn't hear any music... just a lot of talking. Came by on a late Saturday night, enticed partially by the prospect of Thai food, partially by a restaurant whose namesake and gimmick (indoor but different neon sign) plays of a James Franco quote from The Interview, and partially by a Thai place that seeks to challenge Night + Market. Dim mood lighting is the name of the game here as you take a seat, with tables lit by two small candles and minimal wall incandescent lighting. Service here is good as our guy checked in fairly often. Food here was decent but didn't blow me away. Katieam (garlic shrimp) - get ready for a punch of garlic flavor to the face. Felt a bit excessive to me as it just took over the entire flavor profile of the shrimp. Side walk pad thai - seasoned well and the noodles were tasty and saucy. Definitely didn't warrant the two fire emojis though. Expected way more of a kick. Overall, decent but same same as any other decent Thai place Mussel Pancake - this was that 'but different' dish for me. Comes out piping out in a cast iron pan. The crispness of the pancake pairs well with the soft gooey mussels. Comes on top of a mountain of bean sprouts. $5 singha. Plaza parking. Would look to come back and try the Khao Soi next time. read more

Rambutan used to be the best Thai food in Silverlake. Same Same tastes the same as every other Thai restaurant in town, pun intended. Back when this place was Rambutan, nobody could come close to the perfection of their Pad See Ew or their Yellow curry. Now their Pad See Ew tastes completely flat and they no longer have the yellow curry on the menu, along with a long list of other former favorites nowhere to be found. I ordered to-go and everything arrived piping HOT in those thick plastic containers. I could swear all my dishes had a distinct flavor of Phythalate. Back in the day, Rambutan also used to serve their to-go food in gourmet paper boxes....but not anymore. So sad we have to be poisoned with plastic for a little take out. Also I ordered the egg rolls and they tasted just like every egg roll tastes at every "Chinese" restaurant. They used to have curry dumplings and delicious fried appetizers served in lettuce wraps that tasted uniquely theirs. Not anymore. Now their options are very limited. Meh. I miss Rambutan. read more

Same Same is one of my favorite LA spots! I love the vibe, the wine and most of all the FOOD! The street pad thai is the best I've had outside of Thailand (and honestly better than some of the pad thai I had in Thailand! The chicken wings are phenomenal, as is basically everything else on the menu! The takeout options are really giving me life during this quarantine. Now if only I could take out a glass of the Love You Bunches wine to go with this. :P read more

I just spent $70 on food here for 3 people and the proportionals were so ridiculously small....not one of us got full.The wings must have came from some miniature chicken or a family of chickens with some wing defect because they were literally no bigger than a large paper clip-no lie. If there was half a cup of every other entree, I would be surprised.
