First, I am one of those folks who is too lazy to write a review but reads reviews of restaurants before I visit. But I am compelled to review Samburna because it just blew my taste buds and my mind and got me all nostalgic. I got take out today and got the Milagu chicken curry and the Goat talapakatti biriyani. Both were outstanding and just like how you would get at a restaurant in Chennai , India. Absolutely truly authentic , real spices and real food. The biriyani is one a kind and you will never get that taste anywhere else in the Seattle area restaurants. The chicken curry was mind blowing with so much flavor. Visited them during my business trip to Seattle. Ordered tiffin items like Dosa, Vada and Lassi. The food taste was good and the quantity was more than sufficient. Not a big place but is very clean and maintained well. It was back then so that 'newness' was visible. read more

Ever since we moved to Seattle from Dallas we have struggled finding decent Indian food. Samburna fills this void! Today we started with basic idli- the idli was ok (cannot mess up idli much) but the Sambhar was great... very hard to get the right mix- they nailed it. We also had fried prawns(chemeen) and a jumbo Mysore Masala- both well done. The chicken malabar was awesome - great with both the malabar paratha and also the classic appam. They really got the gravy right. Superb balance- yet not overtly doused with spice and heat. The biriyani was as reviewed by others the star. Just enough mix of right pieces and the small grain rice used made it the star or the show. Great show guys- we now have Kathakali and Samburna keeping each other honest and in this battle we win ;-) read more

I recently took some out of town guest to this restaurant. We were so satisfied with the food. We had Natu Koli Soup. Olunder Vada and Masala Dosa, and a plate of biriani to share. It was so authentic and good. Portions were generous and food is made fresh to your order. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Harihanan was an excellent waiter and people person. Kiran was polite and respectful - helpful. When we were leaving even the cook came out to say goodbye. They certainly made this into a new family favorite restaurant for my house. Very small seating area - most tables too close to the door and cold air - not suitable for dine in. Ok tasting food, but very poor service. Entered at 8:45 PM for dine in, left at 10:30 PM. Go figure... or simply keep reading. Starts with us waiting for 10-15 minutes in their non-existent waiting area before someone comes to greet us and puts us on the waiting queue (Great, some does actually run this this place!) 10 minutes of further waiting and we finally get seated (sure, it's a small place and there were lot of people coming in. But, seemingly only one guy - out of 3 - was really managing it all. Rest were sitting pretty at the back) 10 minutes pass by and still no one's taking our order.. Hmm.. Am I invisible? I raise and wave my hand in all directions (look at me, please looookk at me!) I speak out calling for attention - and, yesss - I do get noticed (phew!). I exist! Placed the order, finally! 10 min after placing the order, our server comes up to us - surely food is to follow (yum), right? WRONG! He comes up to us and asks if the food was already served --- really? Our table looks pretty empty - empty glasses, no silverware, no napkins, no plates - You tell me! I let this one slide too since our server was apologetic. He tells the guy at the counter about the situation and this guy callously motions his hand as if telling "yeah sure, take a chill pill man, I'll tell them to start making it". 10 minutes later the food actually comes - still no silverware and napkins on the table - but the food - the appetizers we ordered are here! I ask them to please bring some spoons, forks and napkins. More apologies and we can actually start now - oh food, glorious food! I take a couple gulps of the soup and a bit of the baby corn manchurian - and the next thing I see - FIRE! My tongue is burning. This, after we specifically said twice that we want very low spice, lowest on the scale. At that point I just lost it. I called the couple guys (the careless counter guy and our server) and asked them to take it back. Explained to them how long we were waiting, that people coming in after us got their food and are halfway through the meal - and here we are - still miserable with late arriving and extremely spicy food. And this guy is like - "yeah that's expected- it's busy time, etc." He doesn't even care. We were about to cancel the rest of our order and leave, but for our server who, with further more apologies, somehow, convinced us to stay on. He immediately took the plates back and offered to remake it. The main course - masala dosa - showed up few minutes later and was not really good, but we just wanted to eat something at that point. The fried rice came on ~10 minutes later, followed by the remade appetizers - well after 10 PM! The restaurant was almost empty by then and so, we did manage to get some special attention after - the server was a nice person who chatted with us a bit and made sure that we get a discounted check. One of the other owners came up to us, was sorry to hear our experience and apologized. We finally left at ~10:30 PM. Others around us were having their food served on time and we seemed the exception, so I won't categorically pan the service, but still - we had to suffer through this terrible experience. Also, being apologetic is no excuse for such poor service. The food itself was ok (fried rice good, aforementioned appetizers ok, masala dosa - not so good). I can't, in all honesty, go back there any time soon. Hopefully, they'll learn from this and improve. read more

We were looking for South Indian comfort food, and bumped into this homely restaurant. We had vada and Thalapakatti goat biryani - so yum. I have been to Samburna at least 6 Times so far with friends and family. Undoubtedly the best Indian food in Bothell right now. The mutton thalapakkata biryani is to die for. The dosas are warm and crunchy unlike many places. The chicken melagu kozhi Curry is spicy but very tasty. The chemmeen fry (prawn) is one of a kind. The fish fry is superb. The lollipops are perfect. The nandu Curry is awesome. Service is impeccable. Have met and spoken to the owners (Mr. Ajay), chef (Mr. Murugan) and server (Mr. Shobhan) many times - very friendly and helpful. Wish the all the best. Give them a try..... read more

Pleasant surprise! We went in expecting regular south Indian food but ended up feeling like we ate at a premium restaurant. The food is very well made and the serving style is applaudable. I appreciate their kind service. My father in law is very particular about the food so when his face lit up I knew this was value for money. Loved the kuzhi paniyaram for appetizers and the Ela Ada for dessert. If you like spicy food then gutti vengayam is a must try. Prices are slightly higher than comp. This is one of the best South Indian restaurants I've been to in the US, easily the best in the Seattle area. We ordered vada, Mysore masala dosa, baby corn Manchurian, chicken 65 and onion uthappam. The menu is different than your typical Indian cuisine. It had quite a few items I wasn't familiar with, which was a little intimidating, but it's good to break out of your comfort zone here and there. Everything was tasty although the Tikka Masala was a bit bland for me (too much cream). The service was very friendly but when it came time to pay the bill they sort of forgot about us. I think they expected us to walk up to pay, but we weren't instructed to do this and that isn't the norm for a dinner service. A few bugs to fix as a brand new restaurant is pretty normal so all in all it was a pretty good experience. We'll give them a try again in a month or two. We were in Seattle area on vacation and heard about this place from a visitor at Hindu temple in Bothell. Fortunately it was nearby. Our wait time was short. Tried mango lassi, fish fry, appam with coconut milk, and special mega dosa. Food quality was excellent. Even though all tables were occupied, order turn around time was reasonably fast. At the end we had coffee and almond milk. Almond milk had generous portion of almonds. Yum!! Would love to visit again. read more

Bad food and worse, they scam you. Ordered obbattu which is a southern sweet dish, and I got, and I'm not kidding, a reheated product from a popular frozen good packaged puranpoli. The puranpoli costs 3$ for 4 while here they reheat it, and charge 8$ for one. Please don't treat your customers like they're idiots. Never returning to this place again. Instead I'll go to the nearby grocery store, buy frozen food and save money. read more

I have ordered several dishes from here. Here is my opinion. Appetizers are very good. Soups are quite bad. Thalapa Briyani is average. It was good initially when this place had opened. But recently its been just average. Chicken Fried rice is very good. Tried a few main course curry items. Some are hits and some are misses. Overall I give 3 stars. read more

We did takeout since this place is nearby. We got the pepper chicken curry and crab curry as it was recommended by the worker. (Both medium spice level) We love trying what the restaurant's specialty menu is like. Both dishes were just okay they tasted the exact same. I was expecting the curry to be unique in it's own rather than just the different protein option. I didn't like the crab curry at all because the crab was so small there weren't many meat in it. It wasn't worth much to get any meat from the legs. Same with the pepper chicken curry. It's literally 2 drumsticks cut in halves. ( 4 pieces) I love Indian food and my friend would always invite me over to their dinner sometimes since we're really close. This place roti was the only thing really good, but make sure you eat it while it's fresh otherwise it did go a bit hard. Just like every other curry dishes, it goes on better with the basmati rice. I wish there were more spices contrasting one another in the two dishes. It was pretty disappointing that the two curry had very few meat, portion was small, and a single taste. read more

I ordered a couple of dishes, from prawns, chicken 65 biryani , to their special korma, mini idlis. Me and my family did like the prawns and the Veg korma, and I was really looking forward to giving 4/5 starts to the restaurant, but the chicken 65 Biryani wasn't good. The spices weren't blended well, the chicken was overcooked, which probably was the reason why it was so chewy. The service wasn't good either, we were waiting to be seated for a while, and once seated, we waited for a long time just for water. The curry was served, but the rotis weren't. And by the time the rotis were served, the curry was not hot anymore. read more
