From what I had heard over the years, my mental picture of the Salut experience was pretty high, so I admit it was a mild let-down after dining there. I intentionally booked a lunch reservation after seeing the prices of the dinner menu. I felt that if the food was really good, I would return and try dinner. Im not sure Ill be doing that now, especially with the emergence of Barbette and Meritage as major players in the Twin Cities French food scene. The server was quite funny and friendly and the restaurant did have somewhat of a European feel to it. I also appreciate that they have a free parking ramp and outdoor seating. However, it is hard to overlook the high prices and extremely small portion sizes. The lobster club was good--not great. But, the shame of the situation was that the portion size was incredibly small (see photo). For that price, I expected either a far better tasting arrangement of lobster meat and/or a much bigger sandwich. The fries also came out in a small portion and left quite a bit to be desired. Im sure they do other dishes far better than what I sampled (I thought the brunch menu looked particularly inviting), but it is still hard to overlook how pricey it is compared to the product you receive. I would highly recommened Barbette in Uptown if you are seeking a casual French dining experience in the Twin Cities area. Off the charts. I love everything about this place. I even drive here to just purchase the butter that they make in-house. It's simply the best butter I've ever had. I recently had a nice Pinot Noir, scallops and the duck confit. Simply heaven. A variety of flavor at every bite. The comfortable atmosphere and great service takes you away to a Southern French village. Take your time here. This place is amazing! Sat out on the patio and the scenery of the beautiful foliage they had going on really added a nice note to my experience. Great service/staff. Great food! Great ambience! It's a higher end place and you can definitely taste it in the food. Definitely worth the price!!! I ordered the Poulet Paillard and my tastebuds were in heaven! It was wonderfully rich and decadent but then the grilled lemon they give you to squeeze on top balanced the dish so well! How to say it best, Viva La France! Love this place. First trip here was with a group for Sunday Brunch. Great menu, fantastic service and the caramel laced croissant was out of this world. This place has a very open, inviting atmosphere. Warm colors, comfortable seating. Enough said, on to the food! Try the lobster Eggs Benedict, it's out of this world!! Rich creamy sauce with lots of fresh lobster. By far the best take on Eggs Benedict that I have ever had and I hate to admit I have had a lot of them over the years. We have been here for dinner and I must admit I don't remember what I had but I do remember I loved it every time. Only negative I will say is that being in Edina on a Sunday you have to wait until after 12:00 to order a Bloodymary or Mimosa, snooty darn Edina people...don't you have something more important to worry about? Dined in the patio in August. Food was very good. Standouts included the baguette and butter/salt and pommes frites. I had a crock of french onion soup but was a little disappointed. Salut used to be amazing. When we first moved to the Twin Cities we found the food and hospitality to be amazing. Seriously: we love their food. I think they've still got the best burgers in town, and my wife adores the chicken paillard. But over the last several months our favorite servers have left, leaving a largely inattentive staff - delayed service and nobody paying attention to our tables has become the norm. Add to that their new Nickel and Dime policy of charging for bread and butter, and I'm not really all that interested in eating here any more. Fix it, guys. Great food just don't expect your kid will fill up on the rip off of a kids meal. The scrambled eggs should have been called scrambled egg since there couldn't have been more than one egg! Went for a birthday dinner and I wasn't very impressed. The scene was nice;the dim lights did provide it with a soft & romantic feeling, but I don't live to romance...I live to eat!!!! I had the crab cake, the french onion soup and shared some of the brie cheese appetizer...they were nothing special. My friends pretty much felt the same about their meals. Also, I was especially disappointed by the red velvet cake...it just didn't taste right. To date, the best red velvet I've had in MN was at Stella's (I've only had it at 6 places here). On a good note the wait staff was exceptionally personable and the wait time (on a busy Saturday night), wasn't unreasonable. Had the pleasure of eating here twice in the last few months and both times I left very satisfied with my experience. The room is large with high ceilings and can get a bit loud but overall very attractive setting. The food was excellent I had the salad nicoise on my fist visit and a salmon special that was very tasty. Our server was good not great but friendly. I like Salut - the concept of a french eatery is great with the authentic bouillabaise, steak frites, etc. The service this time was snappy - the cocktails are well made. My problem is the price...the restaurant definitely knows it is getting the cake eaters. $29 is the average price for an entree...and the wine is marked up 3x, a pet peave of mine that more and more places are doing. Better than I remember. Honestly we have been avoiding them for a while because the food just didn't seem special. Perhaps it is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, or maybe now that 50th and France has so many restaurant choices, they've had to up their game a bit. First step, search Yelp for lunch places in Edina - ranked by rating. Salut rises to near the top. After perusing the top five, I decided to go with Salut - good location for us, and it seemed to be a good fit for a business lunch - and it was. Easy to get to, with plenty of free ramp parking near by. Check one. Takes reservations - via Open Table. Check two Booths with enough privacy. Check three Sound level low enough for a conversation. Score. On top of that, service was great, food was good and drink selections plentiful. My only negative was that the price/serving size was getting close to the skimpy side. I had the steak frites, which was just great - steak was incredible, cooked perfectly and the fries were Belgium worthy. However the steak was small (4 oz?) and the fries had a lot of runts. Salut is consistently good but never quite gets to the amazing for me, but I like it for the consistency, the size (fairly easy on a weeknight to get seated without reservation), and for little things like the inclusion of several non-alcoholic mocktails on the menu that make dining more fun while pregnant! I recently enjoyed the beet and burrata salad here, though the burrata was pretty cold and firm and could have been more room temperature to improve the texture. I really liked the moroccan slides that I had with my salad - it is a fairly small serving of two slides but was perfect for a less heavy meal option. My friend loved the French Onion soup with a caesar salad. I usually don't have room for dessert but they always have a lovely selection. The fries are also delicious! read more

Salut is one of my favorite places to eat when I find myself on hungry and on 50th and France in Edina. The highlights: -My son likes Oysters, and they have some good ones here. -I like valet parking and they have affordable valet. There's also have a very healthy amount of parking behind the restaurant. -The service. Servers are nice, informative and attentive. It's also worth noting that the Children's Menu is very well rounded. Pasta with Alfredo or Tomato sauce, Cheseburgers, Pizzas, grilled cheese and mac and cheese are some of the $5.95 favorites that make this children's menu a winner. read more

I was torn between three and four stars... Salut was just an all-around solid experience. The ambiance was fun, our server was GREAT and did a wonderful job of explaining the menu and was very friendly. When deciding between a pasta dish and the bowl of mussels, he encouraged me to go with the mussels for the better "dining out" experience and I was happy with the choice. For the price, they gave me a generous portion. The fries were good. Drinks are $1-3 above what the average price usually is at other restaurants or bars. We had a variety of small plates and my husband had a steak sandwich (he declared it the best ever, which is amazing since we come from the land of Brandt Beef). The scallops were perfectly cooked with a tasty spicy sauce. The generous crab cake also had a nice sauce. The mushroom tart was too sweet so not to our liking. Salut is a Parasole resraurant (read: corporate) which means it's very good but seldom great. It's meant to appeal to the widest audience possible and it does so well. The 'French' motif is a little inauthentic but for most who aren't paying attention (or haven't been to France) it'll be endearing. So disappointed this used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Edina. The changes started pre Covid when they started charging for bread. When you spend $50 for one person and they can't give you complementary bread it is a poor customer experience. But tonight the food was almost inedible. I had the French soup burger to go. Enjoyed a nice evening at Salute with our teenage boys. The 4 of us shared 2 Caesar salads which they kindly offered to put on separate plates for s. It was wonderful. Full of flavor, heavy on the Dijon mustard, which is common in French quinine as I understand. My husband likes anchovies, which they graciously put on his plate only. I had the Crab Cake Oscar which was tender topped with a perfectly done poached egg and just the right amount of bearnaise sauce, all sitting on a bed of tender asparagus. The other 3 in my party had the Steak Frites. All asked for it to be done medium- rare. It was a bit too rare for this cut of meat. Possibly medium would have been best. Absolutely the worst service ever. Took 45 mins until we noticed the manager coming over to look at our table to see if our food was there. Never came and said a word to us, we only talked to the server when she took our order. She delivered food to our neighboring tables (ones that even ordered after us) and said nothing to us. No refill on my coffee either. We left after 50 mins of our food not coming out. Left a 10 on the table for drinks and no one stopped us as we left. Went with my colleagues for Happy Hour, and they have amazing specials. Do try the mussels, it's probably the best HH dish on there. Went on a Friday, and it wasn't crowded although by the time we left, It started to get busy. Their ladies' room is packed with extra toiletries like tampons and hair spray, so that was appreciated! Poor service, so so food. Reservations for 4:30. Kudos to the person delivering water, he was the best server in the place!! It took 16 minutes before we got any attention other than water. They apologize and gave us some bread, the person giving us the bread took our appetizer order. After waiting a half hour, we tracked down our waiter to ask about our appetizers, they came almost right away but only a partial order. After waiting another 20 minutes, we had to track down our waiter again to get the rest of our order which arrived cold. Our meals came after we 'd been there for two hours. It's one thing to apologize for the confusion and delay, but quite another to keep being ignored. They took two drinks off our bill. Won't be going back for so so food, I can get that almost anywhere with better service. read more

I won't even consider popping in here for dinner. It's crazy Edina madness and I don't think the food is a) anything impressive or b) worth putting up with the crowds for. I hadn't been in some time (for said reasons), and when I did used to frequent Salut, it was for the Happy Hour, which, for it's location, is pretty good. Again, it can get packed, so it's best to arrive at the very beginning of HH to ensure a table/seat. Today and friend and I met for lunch. I had a cup of the French Onion Soup (pretty good) and the Greek Salad (decent). My tablemate had the chicken club. When it came out, the bread looked moldy!!! There were a few tiny circles of blue on the top. Ugh. The server took it away and then brought it back with another top and said that the cook said it was blue cheese and avocado that was "sprinkled" on it. Needless to say she was given another bread top (but I don't know about bottom. It freaked me out. OUr server, who was friendly enough, was just so matter of fact about it. I wasn't sold on the blue cheese avocado explanation, and was a little surprised that my table mate was charged for it. I'm sure this was a fluke, but it should have been handled better. read more

Silverware and other items were brushed off the table when servers came with food. Drinks were just okay. Table not ready. Asked to wait AT THE BAR with our kid. 15 minutes pass. Child growing cranky. Receiving annoyed looks from late30s-early40s botoxed, Restalyned Edina residents. Table becomes available at 640pm. Server doesn't take our order for 20 minutes. Food arrives 40 minutes later. How was the food? No idea. Didn't get to eat any. As anyone with a toddler knows, 90 minutes is your limit for time out in a restaurant before meltdown, and we DIDN'T EVEN GET OUR FOOD UNTIL THEN. From what I could tell, it's a great place if you have had a boob job, are alcoholic, and single. Take your kids here at your own risk. read more

** 2 EXTREME CASES OF FOOD POISONING ** So I have only had food poisoning twice in my life and Salut gave me my first and far worse case of it in my life, as well as a friend/coworker !! I even contacted management a few days after I recovered. I was treated like I was after a free meal or something and pretty much ignored. Totally wrong when our bill for 2 people with wine was well over $400! They ignored my 2 further emails and never even apologized or offered to call me. Detail of our experience: So we sat at the bar next to a massive pile of ice covered in fresh cold seafood. It looked amazing. We had some great wine, nice seafood tower, about 3 dozen oysters between us and some fish for dinner. It all tasted amazing and I was so looking forward to coming back here. The next morning I left town and later in the afternoon after a light lunch I started feeling ill. One minute I was pouring with sweat and 5 minutes later I had 4 layers of clothes on and was freezing cold. This continued for 3-4 days. At the same time I was violently ill vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and had abdominal and stomach cramps. I never even slept for 3-4 days as I was continually in and out of the bathroom. I was sore, worn out, physically spent and dehydrated at the end of the ordeal. I had to drink gallons of water and the toll it took on my body I had to sleep for 12-14 hours a day for the next several days. I ended up loosing several pounds over that week as I dared to touch anything for a few days after. Through it all I contacted a close relative who's a doctor and he pretty much told me what I had and if I got any worse to go to hospital. After I was on the mend and had time to think I figured out it may have been the oysters or seafood at Salut. I called my friend/coworker and he had just gone through the exact same experience. This meal was the only time we had eaten together in several weeks as well as even seen each other in several weeks. There was absolutely nothing else it could have been. To sum it up, the absolute worse experience I have ever had from a restaurant! I would avoid this place and go to OceanAire, Pittsburgh Blue or Manny's Steakhouse. I've eaten at all 3 multiples times and had an awesome experience each time! Better still, use Yelp and find an awesome place that way! read more

I'm a bit shamed to say I ate here twice within a week's span of time with my mother. Salut is the kind of place I like to take my mother, when she's buying, because I know she won't be offended by anything bizarre on the menu; she'll find herself a nice shrimp pasta or a cobb salad, and I won't have to worry that things are a bit overpriced for what you receive. No forcing on her escargot. We can park easily and safely, and heck, it's France Ave. We're going shopping at Anthropologie before dinner. I have clear expectations. But seriously, Salut. I visited when you first opened, when I was young and thought I was very sophisticated eating pommes frites and mussels. And I thought everything was good. But the food quality just isn't there anymore. My fish was overcooked and my salad came undressed. The portions are sort of ridiculous during lunch (my first of the two visits), and frankly... it just feels like a gimmick. A French theme with no soul. There, I said it. I suppose this review isn't really *just* for Salut. I fear for the empire of restaurants of which this is one. Every ethnicity, every themed decor, every trend feels like it's been exploited and capitalized upon to a T for the masses. That makes it all seem a little too plastic for my tastes. Next time I think I'll take my mother to Meritage. I think she'd appreciate it more than I give her credit for. read more

Let's just say this - my fingers are still swollen from the amount of salt that was consumed last night at Salut. I just can't even begin to explain...but I'll try. First off - I just absolutely despise when I get sat right near the door of a restaurant that has plenty of other tables open. Whenever this happens I almost want to throw a fit like a 2-year old. But I left the kicking & screaming mental, & politely sat there with the only trace of annoyance being the goosebumps on my arms from the winter breeze from the front door that was swinging open every few minutes. Phew. I did think the experience would be good at first (despite the table), being that the waitress was pleasant & friendly and offered up a good drink choice: an old fashioned, which they made to my liking. Alright, fine - kudos. Waitress recommended the crab cake. I dig crab cakes & so does my boyfriend so we said bring on the crab. Um, what crab? Because all I could taste & see in this *single* ($13) crab cake was chunks of white goop. It was like eating a mayo-sourcream-ish cake. I can't. I didn't want to be so hasty in ordering our entrees, so considering the waitress started pretty much salivating over the Hanger Steak & La Mer Et Terre we thought we couldn't go wrong. We were wrong. A salty wave took over both of these dishes & we could barely taste the meat or sauce or anything. The hanger steak was cooked medium (we asked for medium rare) so it made it tough (& did I mention it was salty?). The fries were ok but they just added to the salt load. The scallops were cooked well, but again, salty (I don't get it). Same as the baby short rib. Oh and apparently there was supposed to be risotto, but I think there was maybe 2 bites of it on the plate. Don't even ask why we ordered dessert. Maybe because creme brulee is my fav and we were looking for some sort of miracle to salvage the dinner & get rid of the salty taste. Thank goodness it was delicious - no complaints on this dessert here (yay!). Go somewhere else. I for sure will, at least. OH - and I almost forgot, we didn't get bread. Excuse me? No. read more

I live a few blocks from here and have only been a few times in 2 years. The main reason I don't like going back? The D-bag bartender who takes his role of "French" restaurant employee a little to much to heart. I went to France this summer for vacation and only ran into one server that equaled this pretentious bastard. The food is good, and their specials are almost always convincing enough to get you to leave the menu for the greener pastures of the daily creation (short ribs were fantastic). This was also the first place I've ever had raw oysters and I continue to eat them today. They were great. But that bartender. I get kinda angry just seeing him behind the bar when I bypass it for the restaurant. If you ever go, you'll know who he is by how he actively ignores all but the most attractive of the Edina cougar set. Lose him, and I'd give this place another star in a heartbeat. If that bartender should ever happen to read this, dude, be less douche-y. You know who you are. read more
