Spent a weekend at the Starr. This is the bar that is available until the late hours and located right in front of the scenic patio. Lots of amazing views. They had a pretty good variety of beers, wines and liquors. I had several old fashions ... mixed reviews as it depended on which bar tender made it. The menu is small but the chips with queso, quac and salsa was good. The gidden gem though is definitely the Elote Tamal ... green chili, hush puppy like tamale fillings with creamed corn and several spicy cremas. Loved it!!! read more

Tried this place out, we sat on patio. Loved the great view, and the free daily shot at 5:20, and the history of how the free shot began. We had the nachos, and Birria tacos Nachos were great, very flavorable. The Birria tacos the shells weren't crunchy like I've usually had, just limp corn, so didn't care for, so just took all the fillings and put on top of the nachos which was great. read more

Beautiful view. If you are not already staying at the Starr Pass resort coming up from the city for the overlook can make for a wonderful date night. The food was good (not great) and the menu selection at Salud is a bit limited, but in their defense there are two other full service restaurants on the property, so they likely don't need a big menu. A bit expensive, but to be expected since they are a resort who is likely expecting that guests are willing to pay a bit more for the convenience of staying on site rather than drawing in local traffic. Oh Salud, how disappointing you are. It is so sad that a restaurant with such amazing food is overshadowed by the lack of service. I ate here 2 nights in a row. The first night, our server was impossible to track down. I had asked for an extra side of dressing, which never came. I ordered a salad which also never came. They brought all of our food out at once including appetizers which made it nearly impossible to eat everything while it was warm. I really didn't want to eat here the second night but none of the other restaurants were open so I was stuck. The second night was worse than the first. Once again, everything came out all at once. My husband ordered a burger which was not hot. I ordered nachos for our group to share, they were cold and mushy. I asked for no sauce on the mashed potatoes, they didn't care about my request and brought it how it comes. I asked for dressing on the side of the salad that comes with the steak and they brought no dressing at all. I asked for a medium steak and they brought me medium rare. The servers here seem way too stressed out and it seems like there is not enough of them. The kitchen doesn't seem to care about special requests and will bring your food the way it comes. So, if you do eat here order based on how it comes versus changing things because they simply won't do it. Great view but good grief, the service here sucks! read more

This was my 2nd time at the JW Marriott. This year, I was spending 6 nights in May. It's a good thing the hotel has top restaurants because it is far from anything. I absolutely love Salud! It is so pleasant to sit on the patio and enjoy the view while enjoying the warmth of the abundant fire pits. I am a solo traveler, so for me, experiences dining can run the gamut. Here, two of the wait staff remembered me from last year! Service was super attentive , friendly and personal. It was a bit challenging to adapt their menu to my keto diet, but, I mostly made it work. I did cheat once with a delicious piece of cheesecake! On Cinco de Mayo, they had a live band. It was just super! They played a flamenco style I usually only hear in Costa del Sol Spain! And of course each evening, they have the 5pm tequila toast! I have to admit most of the selections this year were not good and not something I would order. (2021 was better) But, ok, good for me because alcohol is a no-no on keto. My server, Kenny, was super friendly, attentive and resourceful. He truly made experience memorable. Food option is limited. They are quite standard bar food. Drink menu is quite extensive. If you like tequila, you should be able to find many choices. I enjoyed the cocktails and they had good specials as well. If you are visiting, I would recommend to check with them on the hours. I have a confession. Salud was not my original plan for dinner. I happened to pick it because of its onsite convenience at Star Pass. Did I pay extra for the convenience? Yes. And for the amazing city and mountain vistas? Surely. Would I do it again? Absolutely... For starters, I had the chips and salsa with guacamole for a $4 surcharge. The chips by themselves were under salted but just right paired with a salted house margarita. The salsa was mild, a 2 out of 10, on my moderate scale of spice. It would be nice if a mild, medium, and hot salsa was offered. The guacamole is for you if you prefer smooth and creamy over chunky. Now for the main meal, I ordered the calabacitas tacos. They were served with the same salsa as the chips. Similarly, it would be nice if there was a choice between salsas such as pineapple or mango. I think it would nicely compliment the sweet and tangy bbq sauce on the tacos. The service left much to be desired but I can think of worse places to sit and wait. The patio area was spacious yet cozy and well heated. If you have a negative bias towards onsite resort restaurants then I highly recommend to have an open mind and try Salud. Pretty cool hotel restaurant/bar that was thankfully still open during Doug Ducey's 4 month long shutdown of bars, gyms, and small businesses. The staff was super busy but got the drinks out in a timely manner. Was very nice being able to add bill to room. Waitress was wearing a facemask and so was the bartender. Only issue I had with this place was that the swimmers come up in here with their wet suites and sit on the couches or chairs causing them to soak up the water and in turn look dry from the outside, but when you sit down the water squeezes out and soaks your butt. I was lucky enough to have dinner at Salud with the wonderful Bella J, and it's was a dinner I'll remember for a very long time! Mostly because of the gorgeous views. And the flavorful food. We seated ourselves in a great spot where we could still get some AC while enjoying the warm desert breeze. Service was pretty slow, but they were busy and I've come to somewhat expect it from hotel restaurants. As slow as it was, it was just as friendly. I wanted every cocktail on the menu, but decided on the Sonoran Heat. It's $14, and is made with Salud infused cucumber tequila, jalapeno, fresh squeezed sweet & sour, and Patrón citronge float. It was as amazing (and beautiful) as you'd think it would be. The drink alone made me a happy (desert) camper, but the food ended up blowing me away too. I can't urge you enough to order the vegetable empanadas. The dish is so fresh and flavorful, and filled me up without someone having to roll me out. The fire pits, music, tequila, and stellar views all work together to create a pretty remarkable atmosphere. I look forward to visiting Salud again as soon as I can! read more

Probably the worst meal I have eaten in Tucson! Ordered a Bison burger and got a hockey puck of beef. That went back and the next "bison" burger I got was not much better. Bun was cold - not toasted - meat very chewy (like it was beef) and little to no condiments. Ordered a second margarita to go with this Gastly mess and it was so sour you couldn't drink it. Only saving grace was the darling waitress Izzy who handled everything as best she could and always with a smile and a laugh. But for this to happen at your restaurant, you should be ashamed to even serve it. For the price, maybe you should have your chefs re-trained. Dining here was amazing, one of the best dinner I've had. 1. They don't take reservations. You can sit anywhere you like and waiters will come to you. Our waiter came very quickly and was very attentive and kind. He took nice pictures of us. 2. Food is less than $20. Even entrees. And they were super delicious. We had Brussels sprouts, tacos, and flat bread. They were all super great. Couldn't believe they were less than $20. Drinks were great too. 3. They gave us a dessert on the house. Our waiter asked us if we were celebrating something, we said yes, and they gave us free mango cheesecake. It was also super delicious. 4. There was live music by a guitarist. His playlist was on point (very chill but still pop/ main stream songs) and, the music wasn't too loud, and he didn't talk much so perfect for nice calm dinner. We (quietly) vibed so hard! It is amazing the inconsistency between various Marriott owned properties. We stayed 2 nights prior in the Ritz-Carlton not far down the road. Due to COVID restrictions both properties seem to be taking a break from notable customer service. My $12 glass of wine came in a tiny plastic cup at the JW Marriott. At the Ritz we did get a glass but- cheap plastic forks at the poolside. No break in price for the few determined guests to spend any money with the company at this time. I would have thought the corporation would treat those willing to support with exceptional, not limited services, while maintaining COVID standards. I wonder how Hilton is handling this testing period for the hospitality industry in case it ever comes back someday after the pandemic. read more

The Ariba, Abajo toast is a nice way to start your happy hour. The flavored tequila of the night was cantaloupe and I must admit, it tasted like a strange liquid salad. Though they were busy, they were able to accommodate our large group (without seating) and catered to us as far as refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything went. I ordered the cheese quesadilla and must say that it was incredibly well seasoned. I even considered ordered a second. since I ate there on a Friday night, there was a live band playing and it really added to the relaxing and upscale ambiance. Only taking a star off because my waitress mixed up all of the checks and we had an issue getting that sorted. Would still recommend! read more

This is a resort restaurant/bar at the Starr Pass Marriott. Been here many times over the last 6 or 7 years. It is always a great experience. Beautiful atmosphere and view of Tucson, great service and nice food and drinks. It is worth it just to go up at sunset and take a look at the view - amazing. We have had a number of different drinks over the years. They have some very unique ones (I had a cucumber drink this year that tasted pretty much like a cucumber), but they are really good. Be prepared to pay - this is not cheap, but somehow it seems worth it. This time we were there on the 4th of July and as if everything else wasn't nice enough they have quite a fireworks display. I admit, it was busy, but it took us a great deal of time to get service. The food was drastically overpriced. The cheese in the middle of the quesadilla wasn't even melted. I mean really, how bad does it have to be to botch up a quesadilla? I will concede that the fries were crispy. My pregnant little sister had to send her virgin bloody mary back twice it was so bad and had so much pepper. Even after we asked them to remove it from the bill, we had to ask for an itemized receipt and show them that they hadn't. Horrible!! Eat off property or even order room service but don't eat here! The view was great, the live music was nice...food was soooo bad and service was even worse. Nicole was our waitress...she was very nice but we rarely saw her and when we did she looked stressed and all she could offer is an apology for the bad service and wait time for our food. We sat down about 7:45...nobody approached our table so after 10 minutes I flagged down a guy lighting candles at the tables around us (many of these tables were empty with no guests) to ask him if we could get us some menus and if he would light the candle at our table so we could see. Our waitress Nicole came over and we immediately were told that the candle lighting guy would be helping her out by taking our order because she had to run food to the pool. He just stared at her and walked off after lighting our candle. I felt bad for the way he responded to her and commented on his lack of willingness to help her and she just nervously smiled and started to take our order with this stressed out look on her face. At that point I felt like we needed to order and order fast to get our three kids some food before any signs of the wait staff or service disappeared. We place an order for the kids plus our drink order with an appetizer and told Nicole to get that food going ASAP and we would place the food order for the two adults entrees when she returned with the drinks. Drinks came out 10 minutes later...one of the appetizers 30 minutes later the other 45 minutes later. However an HOUR LATER the kids dinners had not arrived nor had the adult entrees. The kids started to melt down since by that time we had been there for over an hour waiting for their food. In that hour nobody came back to take any additional drink orders or even refill waters. Kids food (pizza, chicken tinders and cheese burger) arrived just after 9 pm but not the adult entrees. Kids ate their food and by 9:30 we tapped out and cancelled our adult entrees, paid the bill and left. The kids food was disgusting even by nasty kids menu standards. We returned to our room and my wife and I ordered room service and finally got to eat dinner around 10:30. My enchiladas were pretty good...her fish tacos were foul! So by the end of the night we were on the hook for about $180 for a miserable night of bad food and horrible service. Front desk offered to comp back $50 for our troubles which was nice...however we will never come back to eat or stay at the J.W. Marriott Resort at Starr Pass. Beware and stay away!! read more

Service was super slow and everything was over overpriced. My first drink was a normal margarita, which was fine. My second was a disgusting jalapeno margarita. I would have given 3 stars but they actually charged me twice!! I told them to charge it to my room (I was staying at the JW Marriot that it's attached too). When I checked out the next morning the bill for salud was twice what it should have been! Luckily the people at the front desk of the JW where willing to fix it for me, because those two drink where not worth $70! read more

I am super impartial to Salud! to begin with my wedding weekend started at this very place ! well, it actually started many months before when my then fiancé and I finally decided on the JW Marriott Starr Pass as our wedding venue and topped it off with the sunset tequila toast and a cocktail to toast what had been stress point until decided on this day! The patio is absolutely beautiful to begin with. It overlooks the resorts pool and natural desert grounds with several fire pits and an open setting bar area to the inside , in case the weather becomes monsoon like. FAST forward to October and our wedding weekend ! Our families all started arriving here on a Thursday evening and we highlighted the nightly tequila toast that is different each night. We couldn't think of a better way to begin our upcoming nuptials than with this toast. There are more than 150+ tequilas here! We also had an order of the nightly sangria which tonight was a peach, blueberry red sangria and believe it or not, it wasn't too sweet. I had an award winning Dark Monsoon, which is a type of dark blackberry margarita infused with jalapeño ! It is just enough tart, sweet and finishes the palate with spicy! Nice! Following our wedding and reception , the manager at Salud! reserved the corner area for about twenty of our wedding party , after party to come back and enjoy the corner kiva fire place , s'mores, live music, and of course, TEQUILA! On the Spanish style lit patio, surrounded by beautiful fire pits and outdoor heaters, overlooking the pool, hills, and city lights! Drinking a fantastic beer that is only available at and appropriately named "Salud" and listening to upbeat but relaxing music. This really is a a nice spot to relax and have some drinks. Went here only once and totally loved it! The food was good with decent prices. The drinks I had were good too, although a bit on the weak side. The waitstaff was friendly, with good customer service. The views were incredible and there is plenty of outdoor seating to watch the monsoon storms rolling across Tucson. If it's too hot, there's seating inside too-- we chose to sit right at the edge of the indoor/ outdoor seating, so we could get the fresh outdoor air but yet be in the coolness of the air conditioning. Service is indeed awful -- and I mean awful. I rank it awful because the servers snap at you if you try to order at the cash register near the bar. They get an attitude and yell at us to just sit down, "someone will be right with you" -- really, who? LOL and When? He will say he is sorry but really, it's hard to be mad at a 12-year-old manager. Then they try to hold your credit card. None of your beez ness. lol And where is Gabrielle the classical guitarist? Gone. Mistake. Where are the other cool bands? All edged out "not enough insurance." Really? Mosquitos are not your fault so I'll give you a break on that one -- but they are terrible this year, absolutely terrible. The last time I took family up to the firepits it looked like a hurricane went through, all the pillows were askew, the tables were tossed all over the place, the seats were wet from people from the pool, no big deal but someone needs to tidy up and turn over the cushions to make sure they are dry and clean!! Hope you get it together Salud, I love the location, have had so many good memories there -- one thing you do an amazing job with the 5:30 toast. Salud on that BIg Time!
