Started with the cheese plate which was delicious. The cheeses, meats and bread were fantastic. Did not have any drinks so I can not comment on their drinks. Ordered the rib eye and it was heaven! I had a delicious dinner here the last time I was in Juneau. I believe I had the Salt burger and fries, and they were both cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the Alaskan halibut and she was also quite pleased! The interior is lovely and cozy, it was perfect for a quiet dinner conversation. Salt is a very popular restaurant and was totally filled. Fortunately I could sit at the bar and order dinner. With my back to the rest of restaurant I didn't get to people watch. The seats were comfortable. The bar area was decorated nicely and little salt lights (candles?) were scattered around. I ordered the French 75 cocktail and enjoyed it. I was disappointed that Halibut wasn't on the menu that night and instead ordered the Alaskan Salmon which was just delicious. I didn't want to let the dish go until I got every last drop. It was very good. I had briefly thought about ordering a side of brussel sprouts, but glad I didn't when I saw the amount brought to others at the bar. It could be it's own meal. What a sorry attempt at modern mixology. Cocktails were boring, subpar, and unbalanced. The classics were boring and not mixed well. The "new inventions" we're too sweet or overly sour. My vegetable Wellington was bright and fresh. Great dish but overpriced. My friend's fillet was the most god awful salty stringy beast I've ever tasted. Would have sent it back but the service was poor and inattentive. It's bizarre someone spent a significant amount of money to bring the atmosphere upscale and modern with great attention to detail, yet didn't even bother to think about a vision of modern food or drink to match the atmosphere. The food in Juneau... where to start? Well, the food in Juneau is bad. There. So after four days of crappy hotel and cafe food. I came to Salt with high hopes. The crab bisque was very tomatoey and way too thick. There were no lumps of crabmeat, instead little threads like leg meat, the kind you give your dog. Halibut was fresh but overcooked and oversalted. The leeks were too sweet, as if they had added sugar and the little radish/fennel salad needed acid. The plate was overall muted, salty, and tasted soggy, like a cloudy rainy day and not the good ones. A little lemon zest or juice on the salad would have provided the needed brightness. The mayo sauce (not aioli as it claims) was more of that muted blah on the plate. Overall, for the price this place anywhere else would fail. Here, I guess it is one of the best. Because of its pretentiousness, I will judge this place accordingly. read more

Salt is likely the most disappointing restaurant in town. Both the service and the food are a terrible let down. While their cocktails are good, the food is awful, and not true to the menu. A friend and I stopped by after a play for cocktails and a cheeseboard. The cheeseboard was advertised to include a full spread of cheese, fruits, and honeycomb. After waiting about 45 minutes we got a few hacked up pieces of cheddar, a crusty wedge of brie, some stale crackers and four shriveled grapes. The worst part is, this is only my most recent disappointing experience at Salt. read more

I attended the Symphony of Fashion show this past June while visiting my friends family in Juneau, and the event was absolutely lovely. The music was relaxing and exciting all at the same time, the show itself was unique and a breath of fresh air, something I've never seen before. The food looked yummy for sure, but as the servers came around with the food, our table was skipped often for some of the foods. The foods we did get to try were yummy and flavorful. My sister and I decided to try it for something new. The food and service were superb. Jennifer was our waitress and was very helpful with suggestions and attentive. I had the Jidori Chicken. It was tender, juicy and well presented. My sister had the Mediterranean Salad and Kobi Beef Pot Pie. The salad was excellent, she loved it. The Kobi Beef Pot Pie was very good, with a lot of meat. She would have preferred more vegetables but otherwise had no complaints. Will definitely eat here again. read more

A very mixed bag. I started with the King Crab Bisque, which was amazing... silky and rich. Almost too rich *(almost)! But then we each got the cheeseburgers, and shame on us for not getting something more local, like the halibut. (I really wanted a burger, though). Man, oh man, was it ever greasy. It was dripping from the bun. I mean, I know that it's better than being dry, but this was over the top. My accompanying salad was pretty good. We would have let but our wait is was very attentive and even have us some lobster bisque on the House. The bisque was fantastic and our entrees (1.5hrs) later were also very good. read more

If you have an ugly date, take them here. The lighting is dark enough. Moving on to the food... I ordered the fillet mignon, and asked for it medium. When the waiter placed in down in front of me it looked as if it were still mooing.. (Granted, that is a difficult cut to cook correctly) However, a transparent piece of meat and red juices leaking all over the plate makes it fairly obvious that it's undercooked, no matter what your preference is. I ended up having to send it back 3 separate times and it continued to look as if they never bothered throwing it back on the grill. I left as hungry as I came. read more

I'm fairly sure the bisque was brought from the owners casual restaurant down the street. The prices were reasonable and the bar is well stocked. The service was wonderful. The waiter gave excellent recommendations on the food and dessert. He was extremely friendly and very attentive. Additionally, the rest of the staff was great. We never once had an empty glass of water and they were very conscientious of our needs. Now for the food, the scallop crudos were superb. The marinade on the steak was unique and delicious. The bisque was the best we had on our trip. All of the entrees were good and there were interesting side options. We had an excellent dessert even though they ran out of the brownies. While that was disappointing, they gave us a discount. The only critique we had was there were not many original cocktails on the menu. Typically I would expect to see a few unique cocktails on the menu for a nicer restaurant. However, they had good beer choices and excellent wine. I flew in from Maui Hawaii that morning, was invited out to dinner by a local friend, we arrived at 6 p.m., (wasn't very crowded, 10 to 15 people there), we ordered salad, crab bisque and the main course, (Prime-Rib - well done!)......... After waiting 1 hr. and 15 minutes, we received just our main course, no soup, no salad, and my Prime Rib was EXTREMELY rare. I motioned to our waitress and explained that I couldn't eat raw meat, plus we didn't receive our crab bisque or salad yet, she apologized and offered to return it to be cooked again, I politely declined, trying not to let the events ruin our remaining evening, I requested a small desert to end our dining experience and quietly departed...... It's a pity, I REALLY wanted to try the "Tracey's Crab Bisque" I've heard so much about...... Perhaps another time.......................perhaps! read more

We started with the scallop app, cheese plate, and pork belly followed by the scallop pasta, French onion soup, and the pork chop. The apps were really lack luster, the scallop dish needed salt (ironic) and was served lukewarm not hot. The pork belly was undercooked and also lukewarm. The cheese plate tasted like leftovers. The French onion soup had good flavor and was hot. I have to say the pork chop was nicely cooked and well seasoned. The scallop pasta, on the other hand, was a disaster. House made pasta was tough and the dish needed seasoning. Dessert was also a fail. The donuts missed the mark and the berry compote was overpowering. The server acted like he had something better to do and kept running away from the table. The only time he was personable and forthcoming was to tell us about the desserts which he was very enthusiastic about. I applaud them for the innovative menu and trendy decor but more attention to detail in their execution and better service would justify their high prices. As it stands, the food is over priced. Will probably once more with low expectations. I hear the steak is good. read more

Enjoyed it very much! Had the roasted Brussels Sprouts and was a huge amount of food for a side. Man was that a treat! Halibut dish was tasty and cooked perfectly. Pork Gyoza was good not great. Wines available by the glass was impressive. And they have Prosecco in the little bottles and not cans!!! Hands down the best food we have had in all of Alaska! We sat at the bar and the bartender,Traci , was amazing. She was the only bartender on a busy Saturday night and rocked it. We were never lacking for drinks and she was super friendly. We had the Coho Salmon and the pork chop. The salmon melted in our mouths and the pork chop was cooked perfectly, which is a hard thing to accomplish in a restaurant we have found out the hard way too many times. We are living in Alaska temporarily, but are originally from Phoenix and the food and service would be a strong rival to almost all restaurants in Phoenix. You must go here! read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here (despite the loud table next to us). My husband said his cocktail was very good -Sazerac - and we shared an excellent bottle of red wine. We shared the Tracy Crab Bisque, which was out of this world. I had the scallop special pasta dish and my husband ordered the halibut chowder -- both dishes were quite good. Salt is one of the more popular restaurants in Juneau with a lively vibe and cool dining room. My family and I (party of 6) visited Salt for dinner when staying at Juneau for a few days after a fantastic cruise from Sitka to Glacier Bay NP to Juneau. There was fantastic live music and the restaurant was very full. While it was loud and hard to hear everyone, we didn't mind and actually enjoyed the thriving ambiance. However, we were famished and while we were able to snag an 8pm reservation, it took an extraordinary amount of time for our dishes to come out and while waiting, one of our drinks was forgotten in all the chaos. Seems like a trendy restaurant in Juneau, but for the price we paid, we expected so much more. The entrees and seafood were forgettable and the service was even more disappointing. Probably will not be returning when we visit Juneau and cannot recommend it either. read more

The truffle fries were on the soggy side, covered with a tasty sauce and an egg, which was the star of a dish that could have been so much better with crispier fries. The crab bisque was delicious, but what little crab was there was, was microscopic. The halibut bites had an "off" seaweed flavor that I've never encountered before. I really wanted to love this place, but the food let me down. Normally, french onion soup is baked in a ramekin and the cheese gets to that ooey gooey melting point over the sides and it is served straight from the oven... but maybe they were out of ramekins because it was served to me warm (not hot) in a wide-lipped bowl with shredded cheese. Good flavor though. I also ordered the black truffle risotto. Disappointed again. Risotto should be cooked al dente, but my dish was quite mushy. The flavor was ok. I had originally planned on ordering dessert, but I decided against it. Now, I'm from the D.C. area where restaurants like this are a dime a dozen so the food HAS to be great or the place won't last. I understand that Salt is one of kind in Juneau, and that's great. The atmosphere is lovely and I would keep going if I lived here. The food just wasn't good as I expected. read more

Our family stayed in Juneau for 12 days this summer and we tried to experience the best cuisine Juneau had to offer. We were excited to dine at Salt for one of our more formal meals and were collectively disappointed. The atmosphere is modern and trendy but none of the food stood out that anyone ordered except the crab bisque. The waiter seemed extremely out of it and distracted as well. Overall, this would be a good trendy place for drinks and a bowl of bisque but other than that, it wouldn't be missed on a tour of best Juneau restaurants. read more
