Chan's is a go to for the chicken pad thai. It's is consistent and a decent price for the amount of food you get. I always get my food to go. When I call, they have my order ready within 10-15 minutes. I like to get two orders to have enough for left overs. I am so glad we tried this place! When finishing up a drive to St. Therese Shrine, this little hole in the wall was perfectly placed to grab dinner. We both ordered the chicken pad Thai and a spring roll. The spring rolls were substantial, they were also massive! We absolutely could have shared one! They were literally the circumference of a water bottle! The pad Thai was delicious and the portion was insane! The container felt like it was 10lbs and it completely filled the container. This will easily be lunch and dinner tomorrow. The flavor was terrific. If you want spicy, I guess you have to tell them because ours was not spicy at all but I was ok with that. They offer packets if sriracha so you can spice up your own food. From the outside it doesn't look like much and inside is a bit outdated and plain but they shine where it matters and that is in the food. Service was super pleasant as well. Chan's excels on several measures. Friendly staff and great Thai food has easily made Chan's a local favorite. It may not have the best ambiance, but a seat by the window will give you a spectacular view of Auke Bay (if cars aren't blocking the window). To an outsider the food may be on the pricey side, but to locals it's about average. I recommend the curry dishes. The green curry is prepared very well. It's loaded with a variety of vegetables which are cut to just the right size. The sauce's bold coconut milk flavor has the right amount of spiciness to it. After reading earlier reviews I decided to try the red curry halibut. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. The texture of the halibut came across as being either overcooked or being in the freezer for a while. In other words it didn't taste fresh and I felt it didn't belong in a curry dish. Tourists can have the halibut.... I'll stick with chicken. A line of hungry folks out the door is common during the summer but the wait is usually quick. There are signs all over the restaurant acknowledging the line and that their quality will not be compromised for speed. Commendable, simply commendable. Tip: In case there is a line, sign up at the counter to ensure a spot in queue. Their business hours are kinda funky. Sometimes they're open for lunch, sometimes they're not. Sometimes they're closed for a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or a couple of months without notice. Totally inconsistent and unpredictable. Chan's loses a star for that. read more

The only reason I don't give it five stars is I was only able to sample about five items: the coconut chicken soup, spring rolls, special shrimp summer rolls, spicy chicken and vegetables, and massamam curry with chicken. All of those dishes were 5 star, and I don't doubt the rest of the menu was excellent as well. The coconut soup was sweet, very coconutty with a slight hint of lime and chucks of fresh ginger. Delicious. The rolls were ample and tasty. Very fresh, crisp vegetables in both. The curry was tasty, with large chunks of potato and ample pieces of chicken. All of the portions were large. Chan's Thai Kitchen has always been my favorite restaurant in Juneau. They don't take reservations, so you never know how long your meal might take. It is a longer drive from downtown as it is, so I block out a chunk of time for a dinner. I've seen them do takeout, but I think it depends on how busy they are, and if they feel like it. The owners typically close the restaurant for a few weeks every winter. The atmosphere leaves a lot of be desired, but the food is worth it. The menu has many choices, and the portions are great for the price - I normally get a few meals from my leftovers too! The cooks struggle to get some of the necessary authentic Thai ingredients in a place like Juneau, but they do their best. I wish they would open a location downtown!! read more

I moved to Seattle 4 years ago, where there are an overabundance of Thai restaurants... and I still have yet to find anything that compares. The Thai lady who owns the place is so friendly and you can tell it's just a small family owned gem. I live in Fremont, the land of Thai food in Seattle. And this place was decent. There is often a long wait for your food to come, so be patient. We went on a Friday afternoon, so we were able to snag a table fairly quickly. The food came after 40 minutes or so, but at least you know it was cooked to order. We ordered the halibut curry - something that we don't really have fresh back home. The one dish was plenty for 2 of us. We just order extra rice. It was flavorful and well-spiced. What a joke. We sat at the table for 45 minutes after ordering without even getting our iced tea. 3 employees walked passed us constantly and never once went to check on our food or drinks. We finally asked for the teas which they brought us. Another 10 mins go by and we ask about our apps. They said they misplaced our food order. So mediocre I can't even really call this Thai. Very cloying, under seasoned, and underspiced. LOVE the multitude of fresh veggies in the curry dishes though. VERY LIMITED HOURS OPEN. They awkwardly block the entrance/exit when they close and want you to leave right at closing (even between lunch and dinner hours). The place is dirty and divey and the parking is terrible.
