This place is great! The portions are generous, the prices super friendly. Totally unassuming from the outside, definitely worth the stop. read more

Chan's is a go to for the chicken pad thai. It's is consistent and a decent price for the amount of food you get. I always get my food to go. When I call, they have my order ready within 10-15 minutes. I like to get two orders to have enough for left overs. I would recommend Chan's when you don't know what to make for dinner or need to get something quick. read more

Not really much for a vegetarian to eat that was both tasty and filling. I recommend adding tofu as an option to the pad thai, curry, and veggie dish. read more

Large portions and ok flavor wise. Service was walkup ordering and delivered in a paper bag, even though we said we were eating there. Nothing fancy about the place. read more

Best Thai Food outside of Thailand. The owners are always courteous and helpful. It's small, but cozy. We've been coming to Chan's for 25+ years. A family tradition. read more

The menu is limited, what they have is well prepared. I had green curry and it was very good, I would definitely go back again. While my group ate there, it appears most orders are take out. The dining area is pretty utilitarian read more

Here's good service and food. 5 stars for me because I would go again definitely. People park illegally and at risk to their own safety to partake of this restaurant. read more

Chan's Thai Kitchen - a view of the outside of the restaurant - Thai Near Me - Juneau, Alaska

If you like it spicy, make sure you grab plenty of Srirachaise packets (thry are free, fortunately)

I am so glad we tried this place! When finishing up a drive to St. Therese Shrine, this little hole in the wall was perfectly placed to grab dinner. We both ordered the chicken pad Thai and a spring roll. The spring rolls were substantial, they were also massive! We absolutely could have shared one! They were literally the circumference of a water bottle! The pad Thai was delicious and the portion was insane! The container felt like it was 10lbs and it completely filled the container. This will easily be lunch and dinner tomorrow. The flavor was terrific. If you want spicy, I guess you have to tell them because ours was not spicy at all but I was ok with that. They offer packets if sriracha so you can spice up your own food. From the outside it doesn't look like much and inside is a bit outdated and plain but they shine where it matters and that is in the food. Service was super pleasant as well. Highly recommend! read more

We have been going to Chan's for years. The food is excellent and consistent quality. The spring rolls, pad Thai and cashew chicken are our favorites. read more

I made it back to Chan's after 7 years, and I'm happily upgrading my review. The restaurant now does takeout (with option to eat on premises), and this works perfectly. The food is terrific and reasonably priced. First on my list when I return to Juneau. read more

Chan's excels on several measures. Friendly staff and great Thai food has easily made Chan's a local favorite. It may not have the best ambiance, but a seat by the window will give you a spectacular view of Auke Bay (if cars aren't blocking the window). To an outsider the food may be on the pricey side, but to locals it's about average. I recommend the curry dishes. The green curry is prepared very well. It's loaded with a variety of vegetables which are cut to just the right size. The sauce's bold coconut milk flavor has the right amount of spiciness to it. After reading earlier reviews I decided to try the red curry halibut. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. The texture of the halibut came across as being either overcooked or being in the freezer for a while. In other words it didn't taste fresh and I felt it didn't belong in a curry dish. Tourists can have the halibut.... I'll stick with chicken. A line of hungry folks out the door is common during the summer but the wait is usually quick. There are signs all over the restaurant acknowledging the line and that their quality will not be compromised for speed. Commendable, simply commendable. Tip: In case there is a line, sign up at the counter to ensure a spot in queue. Their business hours are kinda funky. Sometimes they're open for lunch, sometimes they're not. Sometimes they're closed for a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or a couple of months without notice. Totally inconsistent and unpredictable. Chan's loses a star for that. read more

Best Thai food in Juneau. Limited menu. The yellow curry, spring rolls, and chicken sate with peanut sauce our faves. Counter service and always good to call ahead to order for pick up. read more

Best Thai food anywhere! I'm from San Diego and every year I come up to visit I have to come here because it really is the best! Great job! P.S. Calebs review couldn't be more wrong. I always get their yellow curry with chicken as my choice of protein. I love this curry! The coconut taste in it, is very good! Also their chicken sautay is really good. It's covered in peanut sauce over a bed of cabbage! Very Delicious read more

The Pad Thai is as good as ever. I ordered mine with tofu and it came with extra veggies as well. The serving size was big enough for dinner with leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

Another year, another trip to Juneau and Chan's Thai Kitchen! Based on Theresa B.'s review, and the server's recommendation, I ordered red curry halibut, and I swear to Baby Jesus up above, it is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. Get your mind out of the gutter. read more

Food is excellent, usually. Sometimes it's dry and a little bland but usually it's really good. They have a BAD HABIT OF NOT ANSWERING THEIR PHONE. Which is extremely frustrating, drive all the way there to sit for 45 minutes to wait for your take out. Thell tell you there too busy to answer their phones, and usually this place is packed. It's not a good excuse, especially for a business. read more

The only reason I don't give it five stars is I was only able to sample about five items: the coconut chicken soup, spring rolls, special shrimp summer rolls, spicy chicken and vegetables, and massamam curry with chicken. All of those dishes were 5 star, and I don't doubt the rest of the menu was excellent as well. The coconut soup was sweet, very coconutty with a slight hint of lime and chucks of fresh ginger. Delicious. The rolls were ample and tasty. Very fresh, crisp vegetables in both. The curry was tasty, with large chunks of potato and ample pieces of chicken. All of the portions were large. The chicken with vegetables was loaded with eggplant and greenbeans. Spicy. I try a lot of Thai food and if I lived here I'd be a regular. read more

The wait is worth it! Food made fresh per order (why the wait time) & the food is amazing! All smiles here! It's a ways out of town away from the busy pace especially in the summer and the view is a wonderful postcard moment! WARNING: Plan on the wait!, for the food & price of food , which isn't bad at all is worth it! Plan accordingly please! read more

I've had plenty of Thai food at home in California, so I have plenty to compare it to when I say that, lunching here on a visit to Juneau, I found it thoroughly satisfactory, with large, hearty portions of good-quality food. Deservedly popular among locals who have, I guess, nothing else like it. read more

Anything but thai. Ordered Panama curry and green curry. They both tasted same and tasted like water, no taste what so ever. Please save you money and spend it somewhere useful. read more

Friends said it was best restaurant in Juneau, first the parking sucks, behind and in muddy lot, a walk to restaurant, service is good, seating a bit cramped, it was very busy and full some people had to wait a bit for a seat, soup was OK, noodles were better, a bit of a drive to get to, will go back again read more

Chan's Thai Kitchen has always been my favorite restaurant in Juneau. They don't take reservations, so you never know how long your meal might take. It is a longer drive from downtown as it is, so I block out a chunk of time for a dinner. I've seen them do takeout, but I think it depends on how busy they are, and if they feel like it. The owners typically close the restaurant for a few weeks every winter. The atmosphere leaves a lot of be desired, but the food is worth it. The menu has many choices, and the portions are great for the price - I normally get a few meals from my leftovers too! The cooks struggle to get some of the necessary authentic Thai ingredients in a place like Juneau, but they do their best. I wish they would open a location downtown!! read more

The wait was a bit long but the entire restaurant was packed so it wasn't unreasonably long. Their portions are very big. I got the Coconut Chicken Soup and the Chicken Pad Thai. Both were very good and I had extra to take home. The service was great as well. read more

The Thai food is good, not crazy good, just good. It helps that they're the only Thai food for miles that people think this place is so great. With regards to service, I've always been disappointed. I think its the guys who owns it, the 'host' seems to want to be somewhere else. And the fact that people are willing to wait like 40 min in the rain for a table shows that there is a serious lack of restaurant alternatives in the area. read more

Not sure what all the hype is about. We waited forever to get seated and forever to get our food. Granted they do warn you that the wait will be long - but the excuse that Thai food takes a while to cook is nonsense - no other Thai place I have been to works like this - they are just understaffed and poorly organized. Poor - somewhat rude - service. Large portions. Mediocre food. Many vegetarian options - last page of the menu read more

This place is so fantastic!! It's best to show up earlier in the "dinner time" spectrum, as this place gets busy. It can be a wait for a table, but it's absolutely worth it. We try to go here a couple times a month. Affordable, large portions...absolutely phenomenal food!!! read more

Excellent food, but long wait to get seated (because it's so popular) and long wait to get food. Well worth it though, and they openly admit that fact. In fact, they have a mock award for being the slowest restaurant ever hanging on the wall. read more

I love and miss Chan's EVERY single time I go out for Thai food. I moved to Seattle 4 years ago, where there are an overabundance of Thai restaurants... and I still have yet to find anything that compares. Maybe it's because growing up in Juneau, Chan's was the first Thai food that I ever tried. The fact that I still love it though, tells me that's not the only reason. Their green curry, coconut milk soup, and fried tofu are all some of my stand-out favorites. There is almost always a wait- but it's for a good reason. Their staff is wonderful and once you're seated, you'll be happy. I can't wait to be home next month and come to Chan's! read more

So I haven't tried too many Thai restaurants in my time, but this one hands down beats anything I've ever been too. The food is very tasty, authentic, and the portions are ginormous. The Thai lady who owns the place is so friendly and you can tell it's just a small family owned gem. The food can take a while when the restaurant is full of people but it always comes out hot and fresh. I have definitely become a regular to this place and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good meal in a homey atmosphere. read more

I live in Fremont, the land of Thai food in Seattle. And this place was decent. There is often a long wait for your food to come, so be patient. We went on a Friday afternoon, so we were able to snag a table fairly quickly. The food came after 40 minutes or so, but at least you know it was cooked to order. We ordered the halibut curry - something that we don't really have fresh back home. The one dish was plenty for 2 of us. We just order extra rice. It was flavorful and well-spiced. If I lived in Juneau, this Thai place would be on my speed dial since I can't live without Thai food! read more

The ONLY reason I can even give this place a rating is because it INSPIRED me to learn how to make Thai Food which could only begin to touch the Thai outfits in the Western USA area! Although there are people who come to this town once in a blue-moon from far-out remote areas, if you are passing through Juneau and are used to GOOD Thai food, DON'T BOTHER HERE! I was only a couple miles away....and that is how little I liked it! The staff was very friendly though.......atleast they tried to make up for the food! read more

I like this place and wish I could get out there more often. It isn't the best Thai food ever but its good and reliable, I have never had a bad meal here. Also the ice tea alone is worth a visit. Because it is the only Thai place in Juneau it can be pretty crowed. If you are looking to take your time and really enjoy a meal this is the place to go. I love the chicken coconut soup and the spring rolls, now I am hungry grr. read more

3.5. Good food, and the long wait is expected by returning customers. You can always request that your food be spicy, great for the red or green curry. Just be warned they use orange habaneros that look a lot like carrot slivers. Good portions for sharing. Very consistent food. read more

This is the best Thai food in Juneau and used to be my favorite in the world. I always order their spring rolls, coconut soup, and pad thai. In the past 3 years the prices have risen by at least $4-5. The signs around are correct, if you are in a hurry come back another time lol. It's a family run business and it's nice that the daughters are working there now. read more

Surprisingly good Thai food considering it's the only Thai restaurant in Juneau. Does not have the variety of Thai restaurants found in the lower 48 but the food is very good. read more

This rating is based on my 1 and only visit to this restaurant. I had heard for over a year that this was the best Thai food that I would ever eat. I stopped in 2 or 3 times but they were always closed when I came by. So I finally ate at this restaurant yesterday. There are signs everywhere that they prepare each dish one at a time and to expect a long wait to be seated and then to receive your meal. So, I was prepared for a long wait. I figured the food would probably be great since I waited 45 minutes for it to finally arrive, it was not good at all, improperly seasoned,it wasn't even hot. The servers are very friendly, the portions are large. But, it unfortunately wasn't worth the wait. read more

So mediocre I can't even really call this Thai. Very cloying, under seasoned, and underspiced. LOVE the multitude of fresh veggies in the curry dishes though. VERY LIMITED HOURS OPEN. They awkwardly block the entrance/exit when they close and want you to leave right at closing (even between lunch and dinner hours). The place is dirty and divey and the parking is terrible. I was so disappointed after years of hype. Very sad. Will have to go elsewhere. read more
