I have been coming to Salt and Iron for several years and it never disappoints. I would love some more vegan options, especially for brunch, but do love the grain bowl (no eggs). It's more substantial than I expected and is super tasty. The bartender also makes a great iced americano with a bit of homemade vanilla syrup and oatmilk. My husband and kids love the cinnamon roll (it's huge!) and the Benedicts. I worried about bringing my young kids in, but it is very kid friendly and the staff are super accommodating. We went back to give Salt and Iron another chance after Robert, the manager reached out to me. We had a fantastic meal. We started out with the bone marrow and the truffle fries. I had never had bone marrow before and wasn't sure if I would like it. It was delicious. The fries were great, I really liked the roasted garlic with them. I chose the steak salad for dinner, my wife got the truffle risotto with steak, and our niece got the pork chop. Everything was delicious. For dessert, we split the rhubarb sherbet. We came for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed our meal. The service was great and they even gave us some valentines chocolates as we were cashing out. We started with the mussels and clams as an app- this was yummy but I wish there was a GF bread option to go along with it. Huge portion for an app so we had some to take home. I got the steak with fries and chimichurri and a blood orange mocktail. The mocktail was amazing and the food was really great too- steak was cooked perfectly. We visited Salt and Iron for Father's Day brunch. The food was excellent and they ensured our children felt a part of the meal. A mistake was made in that I was brought the wrong main course, but they profusely apologized and with care, made me the correct entree. Afterwards, the manager even called to apologize for the mistake. This is our first time in years that there has ever been an order mistake and they went above and beyond to make things right. Had a wonderful first time at this restaurant last night. Excellent service. Started with oysters, small but fresh and served perfectly. Then moved on to a Citrus Salad with Fog Cheese which was bright, had a lot of complex flavors snd presented well. Then the pork chop special with the surf and turf add on. The presentation snd the scallops, shrimp, green beans and potatoes were excellent. The pork chop was good, however slightly over cooked. Wine and cocktails were also very good snd seemed reasonable for the price. All in all a very nice experience and would highly recommend. We will be going back soon for the seafood pot which looked amazing! Not real excited about a 3% surcharge added to the bill. I still can't figure out why high end restaurants are doing that. I get that COVID costs everyone, but if you want to rebuild business then don't do add-on fees. If you h lave to change your prices then do so, but don't sneak in add on costs at the end. Salt and Iron used to be the place I took friends for special occasions, in the knowledge that dinner would be something interesting and very good. Last night's dinner of mussels and clams (virtually all mussels; I counted three very small clams) was good but not the wow! expected. The Alaska Wild Salmon was Freezer Tame Salmon - very little flavor and rather chewy. The red sauce seemed overpowering and did not get along with the faint flavor of the salmon. Nice waitstaff. Nice cozy and warm atmosphere. It is a dim area. Only one bathroom area for both men and women diners of about 60 (based on my observation) . So be aware if you drink a lot of water and/or have many drinks, you might have to wait like I did. Indoor and outdoor seating and there's also an area for a bar. People can reserve a table before hand to prevent waiting. Not so much socially distance (tables within 6 feet apart), mask required. Smoked salmon $18 with bread, pickles and onions is very delicious and great. I was craving for some smoked salmon and it definitely hit the spot. Not too salty and did not leave an aftertaste. A dozen oysters $3-4 each are what it's expected, fresh and delicious especially with the red sauce and lemon it comes with. Wild King Salmon $35. Beautiful display with salmon, mashed potatoes, vegetables blend. Very unique not the traditional separation with the food. The taste is delicious with the blend of the mash potatoes and vegetables (spinach, string beans, tomatoes, olives). I believe there is also red vinaigrette dressing mixed in. It's probably my best salmon dish I've tasted and seen. Seafood Pot $32. Delicious palate with a mixture of shrimp, muscles, clams, potatoes, onions and corn. Didn't eat too much since it was my dates dish. Waiter Ryder is exceptionally good. Very pleasant, comes back regularly to check up on us, has a 'smiling eyes' appearance and is very professional. Overall grade 9/10 due to the deliciousness and display of their food, and great customer service. It would be 10/10 if the host didn't mention that we had to leave our table 8:15pm because another group reserved the table (however Ryder stated that we didn't have to rush and the host that I talked to was mistaken, wish I knew earlier since I didn't feel rushed before hand) and only one bathroom for both men/women. read more

Updated review 10/25/18: Visited on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm this time and was surprised to find it completely packed with many tables with kids. We sat in the bar area this time and tried out the happy hour thinking it would be quicker to be on our way if we didn't wait for a table to open up. Unfortunately with only two people working the back area the service was still quite slow. I waited about 15 minutes before I could even flag down a server to refill my water glass at one point. The young folks they have working here are really sweet but could use a little more attention to detail - keeping water glasses full is one of the first lessons in Restaurant Service 101 and they should really be on top of that. Ideally any floaters should be in charge of refilling water around the whole restaurant. But as for food, the oysters were pure perfection! The server convinced us to try the seasonal dessert and we are so glad he did - it was delectable! I will have to come back to try out their brunch so I can see what other delicious menu options are available - I have heard wonderful things about it! read more

Amazing!! When I told my wife that I want to take her on a date, she suggested this place in Edmonds. I don't usually come to Edmonds because I have no business down here but I trusted her and decided to give this place a try. It was happy hour and they had a lot of different options on the menu. The drinks were ok but the food was amazing!! Amazing!! We had 2 beef sliders and 1 steak slider along with the herb fries and I am honestly lost for words. How does a place like this prepare a food this good, this is a perfect example of how you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I will def. be coming to this place again in the near future. I used to live in Edmonds back in the 90s and frequented El Puerto. Years pass and I start hearing about this new restaurant called Salt and Iron, which happens to be exactly where El Puerto used to be! Salt and Iron is definitely it's own restaurant and it stands on it's own two feet very well. I took my husband here for his birthday and we both had a wonderful dinner! It was a Monday but it was packed! We were lucky to get a table. Busy as they were the servers were pros and took excellent care of us. We started with mussels and clams, which were fresh and delicious! And he also started with oysters in a half shell, which I was too nervous to try but he said they were great. He ordered an old-fashioned and I had a yummy spritz non-alcoholic drink that I ended up spilling all over our table when I broke my glass. I was so embarrassed but the staff were totally chill about it and quickly cleaned up my mess and brought us fresh new tableware. For our main course he ordered the scallop dish and I ordered the salt and iron with 10 inch flat iron steak. We enjoyed our meals and enjoyed sampling each other's meal too. I asked for medium steak and it was perfect! Juicy and tender with pesto sauce. The prawns were fresh and tasty, the broccolini delicious and the mashed potatoes were awesome! For dessert we ordered macaroons and 20 year aged Tawny port. I don't usually like macaroons but these were really good! The port was so smooth and sweet I licked the glass clean. Bottom line this was a pricey but very well worth it dinner. Location is great, food and service are amazing! I cannot recommend it enough. We'll be back! read more

Met a friend for lunch. She lives close by and she doesn't like spicy or many ethnic foods. So I decided to make it simple and make sure we eat someplace where she would be able to find food she likes. Husband & I had never been to this place so we decided this could be a good place to meet. We always thought it was more of a steak kind of place. Much to our surprise, they do have quite a variety of foods. I ordered a bowl of the seafood chowder. Husband ordered the SW tortilla soup. Our friend ordered a salad. It was a cool Summer day and I didn't see anyone sitting inside so we decided to eat inside. They do have outside seating, but the temperature outside was in the low 60's. Everything seemed clean. Employees were masked and wore gloves. Tables are all socially distant. Staff were all very pleasant. We sat there for 2 1/2 hours talking & getting updated with each other. No one bothered us except to bring more coffee & water. Our waitress did make a point several times to say we could stay as long as we wanted and didn't have to rush off. So we did, stay that is! Right in the heart of downtown Edmonds, we had reservations at 8pm, we arrived 15minutes early and they told us we would be seated at 8PM but we only waited 10mins before they called us in so that was nice! It was a busy weekend in Edmonds, I think there was a concert going on, there was no parking but we found one and the walk to the restaurant was no more than 5 minutes. The air smelled of seafood, the sun was setting, it almost felt 'normal' to me (post pandemic so it was nice to see smiling faces again) The restaurant was a tight squeeze but it was pretty much at capacity, it was loud but not a big deal, I was still able to hear what my husband was saying without him shouting. Our table was at the bar, it was really cool to see the kitchen, they had a huge open, window and you can see the back the of the house cooking! The menu was pricey - BUT worth it. The cocktail menu was amazing; I had one lemon drop and 2 spicy mango's, SO GOOD. My husband is a self-proclaimed beer coinnessuer, so he drank whatever (lager, hef I dont know LOL) We started off with appetizers; he got Steak Tartar and I got crunchy calamari, very good portions. Wait till you see the actual dinner portions. He got a steak, I forgot which one but it was $110, but let me tell you, it was worth it. As a typical wife, I ate his food; the steak was medium rare and amazing, the mashed potatoes were 'whipped' (LOVE mashed potatoes) I got the Berkshire Pork chop with corn, I give that a 9/10 (I could've asked for more sauce but I was too lazy, I know crazy) our server was amazing, very knowledgeable with the menu. I've been to Salt & Iron three times now. The first two times, the food was so good. But, this time we went last week for my birthday - Now, the steak was excellent. My husband really enjoyed his seafood chowder. But, unfortunately, the risotto is just horrendous. I was so excited Because risotto can be so delicious but I don't know what they are trying to do with it, it's not working. It's like a tomato sauce and mixed with cheese. The cheese completely overwhelms the entire dish, not in a good way. I honestly thought it was inedible. I ate a couple of bites and I was finished. The service is always excellent there so I was surprised when our waiter didn't mention that I didn't eat it. A good Restaurant should do that. We didn't realize how busy the area was on a Saturday night and had reservations for 4 (and 2 babies) with 2 strollers but they made special accommodations for us, for the strollers so we did not have to leave the strollers outside. I had brunch here and thought my dish was just fine but didn't stand out in any way. What did stand out was the BEST blood Mary I have ever had. I know each place makes them a little differently, so it'll be a personal preference. But my co-drinker, a regular in the bloody Mary world, agreed it was pretty damn stellar (and that my eggs and potatoes were pretty darn standard). The interior is well-designed and has a casual but classy feel to it. Food: We ordered a mix of seafood and beef dishes including scallop risotto, halibut, and flat iron steak. We made reservations for 7PM on a Friday. They sat us pretty quickly. They even added movable partitions between all the tables! All the staff are wearing gloves as well. We ordered the octopus as an appetizer, and a small seafood pot and chicken sandwich for our entrees. The octopus was amazing - charred on the outside but perfectly cooked! I'm not a huge fan of chickpeas but i didn't mind it. The seafood pot was a really good deal! You gets mussels, clams, salmon, octopus, potatoes, sausage, and other items that I'm sure I forgot! The tomato-y sauce was really flavorful also! I think fullness wise, we would've been okay with the small seafood pot and the octopus! The chicken sandwich was very bland and didn't have much flavor. My husband said it was worse the the McDonalds McChicken. The chicken breast was dry too. He said it was the worst chicken sandwich he's ever had.
