Wanted to get a slice, and oh boy they have some big ones here. One slice is actually 2. The flavor was good, I liked the crust but the sauce was rather bland. The reason there's only 3 stars was the huge burnt bubbles in the middle of the slices. Thereby eliminating about 1/4-1/3 of the slice. Consistency people, it matters. read more

The guy was talking about how bad their chicken looked as he was putting it on my salad and they told me I had to add my own cheese to it. Sals Pizza on Tremont St, Boston, Ma. I will start on a positive note. The pizza wasn't bad. It was actually pretty good. Not a NY pizza, but not bad at all. However, the service is non existent. This is a family owned franchise, and I generally prefer to shop local & support Mom & Pop's. There were only 2 people there, I can only assume father and son. The older gentleman was cooking. As I said, the pizza was good. No complaints there. The young man working the counter however seemed bothered that he had to stand up & put his cellphone down long enough to take the customers orders. My medium pizza took about half an hour. This was not delivery. There isn't even a place to sit while you wait. You stand. Never once was there an apology or reason given for the delay. When my pizza was finally ready it was given a shove of a couple inches in my direction then the kid sat back down & picked up his phone. I wasn't offered any plates. He couldn't even be bothered to say thank you or have a nice day or anything if the sort. It seems customers are an inconvenience to him. They have a cooler that has zero beverages. They simply don't seem to sell them. My husband had to go to McDonalds for drinks for us & our daughter. read more

Service was great, really nice and helpful. Sal's is definitely a trusted name I would rely on for a decent slice and amaaaazing value for the dollar. Why do you ask? As you can see from the picture, I was pleasantly surprised when the gentleman behind the counter served me these two slices as I was starving. Average big slice pizza place. We ordered pepperoni and margarita. Didn't get a picture of the pepperoni but got one of the margarita. Pizza didn't get heated all the way through. Outside was hot but the inside was cold. This location didn't have any tables to sit at, chairs, or bathrooms. Just stand up bar tables on the wall. This is the kind of pizza that we can only travel to get, being from the Pacific Northwest. We have rubbish for pizza, Boston has authentic pies. Stumbled upon Sal's while heading to Peet's Coffee nearby. I'm sure there is better pizza in New England, but this stuff I'd rate up there close to one hundred percent. The standing dining only just made it seem even more authentic, and the prices as reasonable as it gets. This is my go to pizza place when I'm in the neighborhood because they have a decent variety of toppings, and the service is pretty quick and friendly. When you walk in, you take a look at the pizza options for the day on the glass case, choose a slice (which is basically 1/4 of an entire pie), and they heat it up for you. If you want an entire pie, that takes a little longer. They also have garlic knots and incredible whoopie pies. There are a few counters to stand at in lieu of tables and chairs, and a decent drink selection behind the counter. Overall, a quick and easy pizza place with decent tasting pizza! read more

I have to admit this review is coming from the heart of a hardcore pizza lover. If it's got cheese, sauce, and is on thin crust I am generally a happy camper but Sal's does something wonderful. To be honest, these stars are not for their cheese or their pepperoni pizza. Taste wise, they are pretty mediocre. These five stars are because of size and specialty slices. Each "slice" of Sal's pizza is really two slices of pizza so two slices is four slices and three slices is a food coma. I love their barbecue chicken pizza and any of the margherita-esque slices they display in that glass case of deliciousness. All you have to do when you walk in is stare at the case, make the unbelievably hard choice of which type you want ( they usually have about 6 different pies with anything from 1 - 3 toppings) and then wait for them to slide your individual choices into the oven so it comes out piping hot and gooey. This particular location is not sit down. Just grab and go with a side bar near the window where you and your elbows can hunker down to mow down on a slice or two. The service is always friendly and fast and I love asking the employees which type is their favorite for the day. They are always honest and helpful and not trying to sell you the most expensive slice they have * cough (upper crust) cough*. For slices, Sal's is pretty reasonable prices, not the cheapest by a long shot but around 4-6 dollars depending on your topping amount. A whole pie is really on the pricey side and if your really hungry just order two ( four) slices and you should be fine. I really want to give this Sal's five stars but when it comes down to it, their plain cheese really isn't that grand and that says something about a pizza place. But they still have awesome deliciousness on a crust so, four it is. read more

Good thin crust pizza. I asked for a cheese slice, which is 2 good sized pieces. The crust was very good, fresh tasting, similar to a not salty pretzel dough. It has good mouth feel and isn't too chewy. It is the most noteworthy part of the pizza. The cheese was meh. The sauce for surprisingly bland. Sal's sells slices of many varieties. Each of us chose what we wanted and a cold drink. Cost less than $25. Wow. Go figure. We stood at a counter, ate, and strolled around. Home of the three pound pie! This place serves up huuuuge pizza. Each slice goes for around $5, more if you want more toppings. But each 'slice' is really two, so it's like a BOGO offer! The pizza was average, nothing great. I got the Hawaiian style pizza. They're all in the displace case cold, and they throw it in the over for a few minutes to get it to piping hot. (A bit too hot for some!) The crust is thin, and won't hold up under the weight of the pizza, but I guess that's a east coast thing, huh? The restaurant isn't especially clean, and there are no places to sit. There's some counters to lean on. They're lacking on the hot sauce area, and had some dry Parmesian that looked like a Kraft knockoff. It's not gourmet stuff, but it's filling and cheap. While I was living nearby on Winter Street I ate here several times. The pizza is good, what you would expect for something just off the sidewalk. The crust is big huge and amazing and definitely my favorite part. The middle of the pizza was also good, but for some reason the very center was always runny, and this was consistent on at least four pizzas I ordered here. I don't know if it is a cheese issue or cooking temperature or time issue, but I hope they can figure out how to cook all of their pizza. Sal's started screwing me over when I was in 2nd grade, and they had some scary contract with my school to be their primary pizza supplier. I'm not sure if our superintendent's body was ever recovered, but whatevz... We were forced to eat it and it was always cold!! That was probably the school's fault, but I still get the chills when I see Sal on the Phantom Gourmet (every week). :( The 1 benefit of going to the actual pizza shop was that you'd get a 1/4 of a pizza as a slice. When my friend and I were chasing Lady Gaga on our lunch break, we stopped in the new Tremont St shop to check it out... I ended up getting a huge slice that was OK... whatevz, but my friend ended up getting a 1/2 a slice for $3.49 + tax, so I was all like: "Hey, WTF!?!?!" and they had no idea what I was talking about. They said something like "a slice is a slice" but I clearly got a 1/4 of a pizza that was cut in 1/2 which was literally *2* slices... It didn't make any sense, and I'm never allowed to pick the lunch spot again! Thnx, Sal's! Also, it wasn't very busy in there, but it took way too long to get the slices... I think they were reheating everything in the oven. The GM called me back about the incident and belittled the incident. I would only ask other yelpers to not enrich a company who is so blatant in their discrimination against a disabled man. OMG i love their pizza. We went to Sal's got 2 slices (more like 4 slices in human worlds) and snuck into the movie theatre next door with them ... (we did pay for tickets just not 500 dollars for snacks). The pizza is cheap, cooked in front of you, perfectly crispy, tasty crust, generous toppings, and huge portions.
