I have a lot of hair. It's long and it's probably 4x thicker than the average head of hair. I went in and had an ombre done, and I'm not gonna lie, it came out horrible. It was extremely choppy and uneven, and the back hardly had any ombre to it. I made a follow up appointment and left with wet hair because it was closing time, so I didn't get a good look at what my hair actually looked like until I got home and styled it. I was really disappointed. I think my stylist freaked out from the amount of hair I had and didn't manage her time well, and then rushed to get it all done and just completely messed it up. I had even asked her for a new style, and she just gave me a quick trim. When the salon called me to confirm my next appointment, I told them I wanted to cancel because of the terrible job the girl had done on my hair. The manager (or owner?) called me back and wanted to know what happened, so I explained my experience and what my hair looked like, and she invited me to come back and get my hair done with another girl there free of charge. I was reluctant to accept that offer, but when I did, Cortney fixed my hair and did an amazing job. She was very honest and thorough in her explanations about what needed to be done and if it would be easy or not. Basically, she was realistic about my hair and she evened out the color with no problems. Also, to save time, she had another girl blow dry my hair with her (I have a lot of it, it's like drying a sheep), which was actually amusing on my end. I'm giving the salon 5 stars because although I had a bad experience, they were quick to offer a solution that actually worked and left me satisfied. If you're looking to have something done, particularly with color, I recommend Cortney. She was wonderful. I'm going to refer my friends to her, because she definitely is skilled. Thank you Cortney. read more

On Saturday June 20th, 2015 I came in to Salon Surreal to use my Groupon for a deep condition, cut, and style (all listed on the Groupon.) I had booked my appointment two weeks prior to my visit. Well, that day I got there at 8:45am, 15 minutes early to my 9 am appointment, my stylist Shyanne had not arrived yet. I was told to have a seat and wait. She walked in five minutes after I sat down and I got called back at 9:10 am. After my deep condition is done she begins to cut my hair, after I explain what I want and show her pictures. She finishes up without giving me bangs, which I had requested, so I asked her to cut my bangs once again. After telling me that my bangs won't look good because they aren't trained, I let her know it's ok, I've had bangs in the past. Then she starts to hurry after she receives a note telling her that her next customer is waiting and tells me she doesn't have time to style my hair or blow dry it. Her excuse "Normally with Groupons we don't book the full time". So what she did was apply product to my hair and give me a crappy "beach wave" and shoo'd me out the door. Ok so I guess Grouponers are not as valuable and basically they don't honor the full Groupon since my hair wasn't styled. I'm not one to make a scene, so I figured I could just let the world know how they treat their customers. I was looking for a new stylist, but forget this place. read more

We are so thrilled with the talent at Salon Surreal that I had to write a review!! My daughter got married the day after Thanksgiving 2010. I had makeup done by Lisa Stevens. She made me look FABULOUS - I swear I looked ten years younger. Lisa is very professional and very fun, too. My make-up looked super in the photos. Both my daughter and I had up-do appointments with NICOLE. My daughter booked with NICOLE at the last minute, after a hair trial with another stylist which had left her crying. She called me after her trial with Nicole, delighted with the results. On her wedding day, she was actually squealing with delight on how beautiful her hair was. She looked FABULOUS and commented that she felt completely gorgeous even though she didn't even have make-up on yet. I requested a french twist with a modern feel and had photos of a few things I liked. Nicole discussed them with me and then totally delivered. I had many complements on my hair (!) and felt like a million bucks. It was very classy, stylish and stayed in place through hours of dancing! I highly recommend both these ladies for your wedding hair and make-up. Very talented ladies! Thanks to both of you! read more

Called at the last minute and got right in- huge plus Salon SurreaI. Lately, I have been having some color issue with my hair and wanted the "yellow-ness" gone ASAP. As I Walked in I was very pleased, was greeted very nicely by the girl at the front desk. Within 3 min of waiting my new stylist came and greeted me. Again, well done on the promptness!! Kudos! to Shyanne she was WONDERFUL!!!! She really took the time to talk to me, get to know me and took every word I had to say to heart. I have never had a stylist truly answer every question I had and even asked if I had any questions. Shyanne was attentive and had the upmost professionalism of any stylist I have ever seen. Not only did she do an amazing job getting the exact color I wanted, but all during my session she was giving me hints on how to shampoo correctly, how to make color last etc... As a side note- I also felt the rates were very reasonable which is an amazing added bonus. Of course, here in Phoenix you hear of people paying an asinine amount of money on hair care. Salon Surreal was amazingly reasonable!!! I am very happy with having found my new salon and new stylist!!!!! read more

I am new to Arizona, so Groupon and Living Social have been a life saver for me. I saw a deal for a Brow & Brazilian wax at Salon Surreal for a great price. I was so nervous to buy it, however, I read great reviews and thought, what the heck! When I walked into the salon, I was shocked to see how big the place is. There has to be at least 25 hair stations, 3 nail stations and 2 spa rooms (from what I could see). The two girls at the front greeted me right away and said Kari would be with me shortly and asked if I wanted something to drink while I waited. I have to say my experience with Kari was the best I've ever had. She made an extremely uncomfortable situation very comfortable and actually pleasant. She was so friendly, professional and very easy to talk to. I think we compared stories about our bulldogs the whole time, but I felt like I could talk to her about anything. I also bought the deal they had for Cut, Style and Deep conditioning treatment so I will keep you all posted! For those of you in search for a new Salon and waxer (or whatever the technical name is) go to Salon Surreal!! read more

Sometimes parting with your hairdresser after an appointment can be slightly reminicent of leaving a bad one night stand. You smile and tell them how great it was as you run for the door, while in your head you are regretting your decisions and ithrowing their numberin the closest trash can knowing you will never return. Let me tell you how refreshing it was to have a geniunily great experience with Jessica! I have that kind of hair that if cut right can do anything, but if cut wrong....I could end up doing a fantastic impression of Simba. Jessica did a phenominal job giving me honest feedback and opinions on what I wanted. She was fun to chat with and it was nice meeting someone who shared my phobia of commitment. While in most cases I am most likely to give a high five and part ways for good, I will say that I have made a very big step in my commitment recovery. I have not only kept Jessica's number, but also plan on making many more appts with her in the future. My hair and I are incredibly happy, and I advise my fellow Yelp-lovers to give her a try. You will not be disappointed! read more

I have been going to Salon Surreal for over 12 years now. Hiedi Hand is my hairdresser. She is amazing and very talented. However, I have seen this salon go down hill over the last 3 years. I think the owner is more concerned about saving money at all costs that she is willing to have her staff and clients not be comfortable. I had my hair done yesterday. I go every 7 weeks. It was 110 degrees outside and 80 degrees inside. With the blowdryers going in the front and back if felt like 100 degrees inside. I was sweating while I was under the dryer. This apparently is an ongoing problem. When I asked the owners son to lower the temperature he said he didn't have the key to open the temerature box and proceded to do nothing. I said you can call your mom or the manager who they said is the only person who knows where it is. He did nothing. I was very upset. When an owner begins to cut corners - like comfort for their clients the business suffers. I have noticed a large decline in the number of people who go there now. If Hiedi was not there anymore I would leave. read more

This place does excellent hair. I often come in every few months to get my nose hairs waxed by aesthetician DeAndrea. She does excellent work. Yes I said nose hair waxed it's the only way I will remove my nose hair now. It really doesn't hurt. Then afterwards I get my hair trimmed by Ellie. Ellie does excellent men's cuts. I am also very impressed with her work. I often used to get Brazilian blowouts to have my hair straightened out and these treatments that she did really work. Take it from a dude with long hair. Every few months I would get my hair trimmed by her and she also groomed my beard and cleaned up around my ears and neck. I am also really impressed with her quality of work. Salon Surreal is all in all an excellent place that does only excellent work. Their staff is highly skilled people in the industry that is why I keep coming back. read more

I met Francesca on an airplane, flying home from vacation! Talking to her for our whole 4 hr trip she informed me she did hair at a salon that happened to be only a few miles from my home! I have been a little reluctant in the past to strangers and my hair. Seeing that she was so kind when we spoke I decided to give her a try! I've never made a better beauty decision in my life! Just as she was when we met, Francesa greeted me with the most kindness! My hair has never looked better! Not to mention the other services that Salon Surreal has to offer! Its a one stop shop! I was able to get my eye brows waxed along with a medi/pedi (all that I regretfully had put off for several months)! I could not ask for more! I'll be a life time client for sure! read more

New and better experience this time. Lauren reached out to me after my appointment on Saturday to discuss why I wasn't happy with my recent highlights. After we talked, she decided to let me come back and they would take care of me for free. She was able to get me in on Monday (their next open business day). I went there and my experience was 100% the complete opposite of my last review. They were super kind and friendly. Brenda was fabulous. Not only did she fix my highlights but she made sure I felt comfortable and talked with me the whole time. I would definitely return to Brenda and of course Ann D. anytime. Thanks Salon Surreal for making the unsatisfied customer VERY satisfied. read more

Go see Kelly McBride! I have been going to her for a few years now and have never been happier with my hair. I have very difficult hair to color/cut - thick, curly, frizzy. She manages to give high definition color, currently rich reddish brown with tiny golden highlights, that look great when I wear my hair curly or straight. The color fades beautifully, not feeling like I need it redone in a month. Her cuts are fantastic - easy to manage, being a working mom of two under 4 years old, I need that! She has a very friendly and outgoing demeanor, will talk with you when you want, and also will let you just read a magazine and relax if that is what you need. read more

Wow! Excellent advice and cut. Thank you Ellie for my new look! I was so self conscious about my hair. You know, as a mature adult male, changes happen to your body, and you are not like 19 anymore. I met Ellie, and she gave me a new look. Totally changed up my hair. I love it. It requires like nothing after my shower, and I always get complements on it. So happy our paths crossed. If you want to change it up, or just have her keep what's going, I have never met such a good hairdresser that can put you where you should be, even if you are a low maintenance guy like me or my girlfriend that needs cut, color and whatever else these women do :) read more

Let me first start off by saying that I am way too picky with my hair. Apart from never having been able to find a managable hair product or an adequate designer I was blown away to experience the best of both worlds first hand. My hair designers name was Brandi and she was amazing! From the finite detail of every clipping to her exhilerating neck and head massage I could not believe the expertise of service. Not to mention, she turned me on to a hair product that I would have buried with me when I die. If you would like to exprience the master at work visit Salon Surreal and all of it's beauty! read more

I just got my hair cut with Jeff Warner at Salon Surreal. It was a great experience - starting with a head massage that was heavenly. The cut he gave me was exactly what I wanted and he was able to do this while carrying on a completely engaging conversation. I usually dread getting my hair styled and go home right away to wash out the styling chemicals that stylists pour onto my head, but this time I am happy with my new "do" and my hair seems healthier and happier as well! I will definitely go back to Salon Surreal in the future. read more

A good friend turned me on to this salon, I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Ann Gentle for about 10 years now, and needless to say she is amazing! I get compliments on my hair ALL the time she is just the best. She is SO sweet and such a doll and does such a beautiful job. I also go to Jillian to get my nails done, she is adorable and does the best most natural looking nails in town!!! All of my girlfriends go to Ann and Jillian also! Everyone there is so nice and genuine I cant say enough good things about this salon! read more

This is a wonderful salon. I can only comment about one of the stylists, Ty, who is amazing. Ty has been my stylist for about ten years. I have never walked out of the salon disappointed. Although I rarely change my style, Ty always checks with me before getting started to make sure he is styling my hair the way I want. I especially love his color work. He blends the color to my natural color so well that it looks great much longer than with my previous stylist. I always look forward to my time with Ty and leave feeling beautiful. read more

The perfect balance of cost and service (though personally I've gotten haircuts worth far more than what they charge) and their receptionists are so helpful and friendly :) Ellie is stuck with me because that woman can cut hair like I've never seen before. Absolutely outstanding stylist, I can't recommend her enough The whole shop is super clean and everyone is wearing masks properly and you just feel so clean, safe, and welcome there. Please give this place a shot I promise you'll love it! read more

If you are looking for a great professional hair stylist then MANDY is the one that you should ask for at Salon Surreal!!! And that takes real talent. And that really describes what MANDY is - talented!!! submitted by Karen S. read more

I have been having Megan help me grow out my short haircut and she is the best! I always had a style yet she kept my longer hair goal in mind. I walked out of the salon with a style that works for my professional life yet had the edge of my personality. The staff is gracious and attentive. I love the fact that I can get my hair done on a Sunday. Great for my busy weekday life. I recommend Salon Surreal to everyone I know! read more
