I am a picky gal when it comes to hairs stylists...especially with naturally curly hair, but I have been loyally going to Brandi at Salon Surreal for close to three years now - and I adore her! Not only is she fun & sweet, but she does a fabulous job on my hair! She is a great help to me in figuring out what I want, how it will look on me, and how it will work with my hair. I would never go to anyone else! The Salon itself is a convenient location right off the free way, and all of the employees are always so welcoming and friendly! The atmosphere is nice and modern and it is always clean, well stocked, and bustling with a fun, young energy! Definitely a place & stylist I will be staying loyal to! read more

I'm so happy I found this Salon! I had been looking to find something a little closer to my home and I am glad I did. Ellie C. came highly recommended so I made my appt with her. I told her what I wanted and she listened!! I was so happy with my haircut. It was exactly what I asked for. Not too short. She also takes the time to recommend hair products. I also love my new shampoo. I will be a repeat client with Ellie for sure. You should see her up-dos!! The vibe at this salon is hip, energetic, and friendly. Great find! Highly recommend! read more

Curly hair has always been a challenge...I'm born with it and I love it, if it is done right. Not easy to find someone who not only has curls but knows how to cut and style it! A friend recommended me to Sundy over a decade ago and I finally found someone who not only personally understands curls but does the best and most consistent cut and color. My curls are awesome with the care and expertise of Sundy. A day never goes by without someone commenting about my sexy curls. I highly recommend Sundy to anyone with or without curls, she knows hair...my husband (no curls) won't let anyone else near his hair either. She's also a wonderful person, we "catch up" with each visit! read more

Brenda is amazing!! She really knows her hair stuff and always gives me the best advice even though I always want to go lighter. She's helped my hair get healthy and longer! I wish I had found her sooner! She also has the best personality! read more

I have been a clean slate with my hair for years. finally wanted to spice it up a little but very hesitant to just go to anyone. I went in with a picture and Kelly made my dream come true! she nailed the color, the cut! She was super friendly and easy to chat with. I wanted low maintenance to cut down the time spent there in the future and now I just want to go weekly! the Salon was very clean with a great welcoming desk. I had an amazing experience thanks to Kelly and would highly recommend her to friends and strangers! read more

I walked into Sal at Salon Surreal by a chance - my regular hairdresser was not available when I had to leave for vacation. I am sure that you, ladies (and gentlemen) happened to feel that rush at some point and called the salon in desperation. ... A man with a great smile welcomed me and practically made me feel like VIP. I tried to explain that I had the same boring style for too long, and hated the color that was of many shades from washed out brown, to dark brown-black, that was bleached at some point, to reddish. Sal smiled, and with the confidence (not pride) assured me that I could completely trust his 30+ years of experience and just relax. After the color part I jumped from the chair and screamed that this is the best color ever - roasted coffee beans with incredible shine, washed and rinsed with the great smelling shampoo, conditioner, and followed by deep and very relaxing massage. Heavenly. Then my hair were cut and STRAIGHTENED. The new look touched me deeply: I gasp with amusement, disbelieve of this unexpected metamorphose from the tired and pale to much younger, classy, sexy (if I may), and most importantly - HAPPY woman. Sal was smiling, And sincerely shared my happiness with the kind smile and many sweet compliments. His professionalism, experience, his intuition for the right style, his respect for every women, make him unique hairstylist and I highly recommend him. Needless to say, every time I come for my appointments I see women leaving Sal's chair looking most beautiful, smiling, feeling happy, just like me. Thank you so much, Sal! read more

Had Kyna as my hair stylist and she was absolutely amazing!! I am very picky about my hair and who does it and she knew exactly what she was doing and was so friendly and professional, I will never go anywhere else ever again! I knew the style and cut/color I wanted was difficult but she did it with such grace and it looked beautiful. Thank you Kyna!! :) read more

So normally when I go through the deciding process when getting my hair done, it's spur of the moment. I called this afternoon to see if they had availability for a cut and color. They fit me in 30 minutes later and boy did I luck out. I got an appointment with Karli and she knew exactly what to do. I have dark brown long hair and wanted to bring dimension and depth to my very basic hair style. She did a beautiful balayage. She artistically painted my hair super fast and it turned out this rich caramel at the bottom with a very nice distribution to about my jawline. She transformed by boring hair to Instagram worthy locks in under two hours. I won't be going anywhere else! read more

Salon Surreal has been my go-to spot for years now. Not only is the salon clean, but the staff are always friendly and helpful. The main attraction at the salon is their stylist Ty Taylor! I have been seeing Ty for all of my hair needs and woes my entire adult life. I will follow that creative genius wherever he goes! I joke all the time (but I'm actually very serious) that if he were to ever leave state I'd be packing my bags immediately to follow him! His personality is fun and bubbly and his laugh is infectious. I sometimes feel like he's doubling as a therapist as well because he listens to every little detail about my life without complaint! I have done every hairstyle from mohawk to long (AND MANY) hair extensions with Ty, every color from platinum blonde to pink to purple to red to black and all in between. He has that creative flair and edge I need in a hairstylist. Not a single time have I left that salon upset with my experience or with my hair. I leave that place excited to show off my new hair and with a boost of confidence. He always goes above and beyond and makes me feel like his best client every time I'm in his chair. I could not ask for a better, more kind, and accommodating stylist than Ty! Every time someone asks me where I get my hair done or who they should go to, without hesitation it's "Ty Taylor at Salon Surreal!" I can't recommend his services enough! As long as Salon Surreal has Ty in their employ they will have a forever client in me! read more

Once again Salon Surreal and Heidi Hand comes to the rescue!! I've been so overdue for a hair cut... it's really embarrassing how overdue actually. Last week I called my favorite girl Heidi to see if she could squeeze me in. Now, every time I go in she urges me to make a followup appointment then and there because she books up so fast, but there are times that I guess I don't list. Hand slap for me; I know. Heidi's so popular because everyone knows how fun and awesome she is, so when I called for an appointment, I knew it was going to be a long shot. Just as I feared, the appointment gal told me that Heidi's next available appointment was in October...October! My split ends screamed and shivered when they heard that. So I asked her to put me on the waiting list and prayed to the hair dresser fairies for a miracle. And guess what?? True to the awesomeness of Salon Surreal and especially Heidi, I got a call a day later informing me of a cancellation for Saturday AM. So, today, I woke up bright and early and had another fabulous hair cut, chatted up a storm with the stellar Heidi and left split-end free. Oh and this time, I made a followup appointment! read more

The first few times I went here, I had really nice work done. However, when I went to start a new job and needed my color changed, my stylist was vocally offended that certain industries would have problems with things like hair color, which was incredibly uncomfortable. He told me for the color adjustment I was looking for, it would take 2-3 sessions, which was fine. The first went very well, and the second wasn't terrible. During the third, I was given a series of incredibly funky layers I absolutely did not want as I have thin hair and they never sit well when I self-style my hair. I chalked it up to an error and continued to see the same stylist. After the first three sessions, my hair was still not colored appropriately for work and I made another appointment. He was clearly offended my workplace did not approve of his color, and his attitude throughout the appointment was less than stellar. He decided to try to nuclear bleach my hair (WITHOUT USING OLAPLEX), causing my hair to be spongy and very damaged. I got a burn on the back of my neck from the bleach as well due to his careless attitude. However, my hair still had a pink tone that my very conservative workplace would not allow, and he made the decision to (without consulting me first AT ALL) start "cutting out" the remaining pink spots. I was left in tears with a Joan Jett-esque shag mullet, unevenly bleached with pink tones. And when I told him my hair was still going to get me in trouble at work the next day? He responded, "Well, we close in 10 minutes so there's nothing I can do for you. Byyyyeeeee." (High pitched sarcastic tone and all) and left. I had to go to a salon in the mall to get a quick cheap dye job over the top so I wouldn't get fired the next day. An apology would have been nice; a refund would have been better. read more

So I am pretty new to Phoenix, AZ and have had the most horrible time trying to find a decent hair dresser... I was pretty skeptical in trying out a new person, I mean how hard is it to cut an A-line and color a persons hair chocolate brown? I decided to do some true research and of course used yelp to find Salon Surreal and booked an appointment with Julie. Their prices are very reasonable cut, color, and style for 100 bucks. Julie is amazing young and gets the concept of good hair. Im a talker and for not knowing me at all she really made me feel conformable and I am definitely going back! read more

I moved here almost 4 years ago and after a handful of bad cuts (picture the girl in 16 candles who got her hair caught in the door and a couple of other girls cut it out) a friend referred me to Salon Surreal. I've been going there for almost 2 years now. The first lady that did my hair moved and referred my to Stephanie Franklin and I couldn't be happier. It's nice to have found someone that understands my hair type (curly) and knows how to cut it. read more

Not that I'm a germaphobe, but a significantly negative experience with a simple manicure many years back has me handling all my mani/pedi needs myself. Every now and again(like once a year)I'll get my toenails professionally done, then I simply keep up on my own. I perused here and Kudzu for a nail salon and after looking at some with high revues,I just wasn't at all comfortable utilizing the services of places where I can't effectively communicate with staff due to the prevalent language barrier that is the norm for the nail salon industry. So,after a few look sees,I took a chance and booked an appointment with Salon Surreal. When I got there,I saw the wall of product and the bustling front desk. Even though there were a few others checking in,I was greeted immediatley and warmly. I was about 10 minutes early. In looking around I couldn't help noticing how loud the cutting floor seemed to be,even though shielded by the wall of product. You could see so many people buzzing around,it looked like a beehive to me.I didn't think "spa". To me,a spa is quiet and serene. This place was anything but that! So,about 5 minutes before my appointment time,Janea greets me and brings be back to the nail area. She's already got the station set up,nice hot(but not too hot)foot bath already set.Nice detail. I'm the only client back there so it's a very welcome difference from the cacophany of the front. Janea is very soft spoken and has a very light touch, which was perfect for me.She is also a consumate professional at what she does. The massage was a light touch as well, but very effective and soothing. I'm now going on week three and the pedicure still looks fresh with no chipping or dulling of the polish. I thought the price was a bit high for a basic pedicure, but with the first time discount here mentioned and honored,it brought the price point down to something more palatable. Since the pricing is a bit on the high side,I have to say,it will keep me away from more frequent visits. If I come across a coupon or another dicount offer,I will be back. For those of you wanting a very nice pedi experience,I do highly recomment Janea. read more

Although I have yet to have my hair cut at this salon, I come here just about every 6 weeks to have hair painfully ripped off of my face. I just moved to Texas last month and had my hair done at a local salon, just a few days ago. Leaving the salon I found myself missing Heidi Hand at Salon Surreal. She is honestly the best colorist that I've ever been to. In fact, when I had my hair done for my wedding (out of state), the stylist asked who did my color and complimented Heidi's work. Always a nice tight highlight that blends beautifully. She is an artist. Finding someone to replace her, here in Texas, is already proving to be impossible. read more

I have a terrible time finding a good salon to go to primarily because I don't really like going and having my hair done. The whole experience can take forever and be somewhat unpleasant depending on where you go. I was pleasantly surprised however after visiting Salon Surreal and actually liking the experience. I called, they had an opening, and voila before I knew it the whole thing was done. Painless, professional and comfortable. Everyone was super friendly and unpretentious. I will be coming back. read more

Shari Briggs is the best!!! I've lived in Phoenix over 8 years and have been to countless hair stylists. I have thin blonde hair. It's been a struggle to find someone that can actually do a good blonde color. I went to Shari with broken, purple grey, sad pathetic hair, but she has transformed my hair. It grows, it's strong and soft, it's dimensional with bright blondes and the perfect low light-it's just beautiful! Shari is truly the best!!!! read more

I had been planning for weeks to schedule an appt to get my hair done before my Seattle trip (in two days). But in typical Tina fashion, I realize this past Sunday I need to get my ish in gear and schedule an appt! Slacker, I know. I called a few places yesterday and I was lucky to get an appt at Salon Surreal for today. I showed up about 45 minutes early (got off work early) and had to make do since they couldn't get me in earlier. They offered me something to drink, since I decided to wait, and I was happy to see several piles of my favorite intellectual reads: Glamour and a variety of gossip mags. Hey, sometimes a girl needs mind fluff after a hard day at work! The layout of the salon was a little odd. The lobby chairs all faced the hair products and the partition really seemed to close off the salon. During my wait, I noticed that the staff was really friendly and seemed very efficient. The girl who did my hair, Francesca, grabbed me five minutes before my appt. I thought she did a really nice job on my hair and was really friendly. The total (excl. tip) was $115 for a cut, style, and hair coloring. I wouldn't do this every month, but it seemed pretty reasonable given my curly, thick hair. I had her straighten my hair and it looks pretty damn great. Just in time for my trip to Seattle.... read more

I really wanted to like this salon. After the reviews I read, I was expecting a really upscale salon. While the iced tea served there is good, I diddnt think they would bring it to me in a tiny styrofoam cup. I used to go to Rolfs. But wanted a change. I explained this to the receptionist that I am in bad need of a new look. I tried to book my appointment with Bobby, but he was on vacation. So I asked who was good with coloring brunette hair and she told me Rachel. I arrived early because after reading reviews I thought parking would be a nightmare. I had no problem parking and there were many spots available. Rachel was a doll. She had an awesome personality. And after I told her I really wanted a change, there wasnt much hair cut off at all. The color was beautiful when I left the salon, but the red washed out within 3 days. I was very dissapointed. Also I saw other stylists giving the neck massages forever! However, I diddnt get any such treatment. The only time I got in the sink was to quickly wash the color out. I do not love the cut. When I spend that much money on a salon visit. I think I should LOVE it. I will not be returning to the salon. But for those of you who wish to, there is a 20 percent off coupon on arizonaspagirls.com read more

I went here to get a badly needed cut before a weekend trip and my usual girl is too far now. I had such a great experience! Maria ( I think that was her name) did a great job! The whole experience was fantastic. They were a little behind (no big deal, everyone runs behind ) but apologized and offered water/ coffee. They made sure I felt comfortable and Maria asked twice about the cut I wanted because she wanted to make sure I was happy. They recommended products. The place was nice and clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. I really appreciate a business going above and beyond to make me feel so great about their services:-) I am def going back read more

I have been going to this salon for my haircuts for almost a decade.....holy sh*t I am getting old! I see Ann Gentle and I would not even know how tell someone how to cut my hair now that I have been seeing her so long. The place is really nice and it has a cool atmosphere, I love the location in central Phoenix even though I have now moved to the NW Valley. I still take the drive to come and see her since I now know her so well. The other staff is always really nice and if you are a guy, I have to tell you that the scenery is great!
