I went to Edvin who I happen to stumble across by seeing some really amazing videos on his cuts. He was friendly, went into detail on educating me on hair and I can tell he knows what he is doing. I contacted him the night before and we scheduled an appointment. He accommodated me by getting me in, however during my appointment two walk ins came and suddenly I felt rushed. For how much I spent on a cut ($100) and the fact I had an appointment I would have liked a little more attention put into my style and especially since I mentioned my birthday was tomorrow. We had an appointment and when we walked in the lady at the front counter was rude right from the start. Asked if we had an appointment and we said yes she checks and tells us sorry you should have gotten a call you were canceled. We checked and we have no message or missed calls. They don't try and accommodate us for the miss communication just cancel her and ask if she can come back tomorrow. I told them her schedule doesn't allow her to just change and she looked at me like she didn't care. She piped up again and said she called you and I responded did you want to see her phone. She yelled back and said NO I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT!!! She instantly starts a fight with me and asked why I'm hostile. I did say out loud that it was f$&@ing stupid. She comes back with don't cuss at me!! I said I didn't cuss at you!! As we were walking out she called me out to fight in the parking lot. The service was awful here. If you're a woman of color DO NOT come here. I should have stopped at the call for an appointment. The receptionist was rude and asked me how thick my hair was when I told her I needed a trim. She seemed annoyed when I called because I couldn't find the place- Her name was Nicole. I got a haircut with Paolo and he didn't smile when he saw me and asked what race I was at some point. He didn't offer me a complimentary drink. The esthetician smiled when she saw me but was super fake. She did an ok job with the facial but showed her racism when I told her my boyfriend and I would be bbqing carne asada tonight. "Which side of town do you live on? I mean, where do you live?" She corrected herself. I had already told her I was a grad student from Orange County so I was puzzled that she seemed impressed I lived on what I'm guessing is the "good side" of Modesto. "Oh that's a nice little area." She said. At the end she offered me water instead of coffee or a glass of wine. They're super racist here and elitist. I'll probably go to the Studio Salon next time. They're in the same shopping center and have great customer service reviews. In customer care your work doesn't speak for itself, your interpersonal skills can help or hurt your business. Ok I've been here about 3 times over the last 3 years. Each time I had different hair stylists each time I was happy with my cut and color. Happy but nothing extra special but I would go back, there stylist I've noticed have ongoing training staying current with new and improved products and current styles 2 of the times I was in there was training going on. I don't know about the quality of the actual service itself since it's a mystery as to when this place is actually open. Yelp says this place closes at 4pm... Their website says it closes at 3:30pm... Their recorded phone message says it closes at 3pm and their hours are not posted on their storefront. So, I'm a dark Hispanic.. I called into this salon one day and I asked if there was any openings for a manicure, they said "yes" that I could just come in.. I went in and asked to get my nails done, the two ladies at the front desk told me "there was no openings". I proceeded to tell them, I just finishing calling and someone said there was an opening. This place was very disappointing and had unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. I made an appointment on Monday for Tuesday afternoon, I didn't care who I got just wanted to get a hair cut since I have never been here before. I walk in for my appointment with my mom and the lady at the from reception desk was rude from the begging. She did not greet us, but said "you have an appointment?" With an irritated tone in her voice. I gave her my name and number and she tells me that my appointment has been cancelled. She tells me that I SHOULD have got a call because the lady that was supposed to do my hair had to call in sick. I was not called and had not received any voicemails. She didn't believe that I did not receive a call and I said "I can show you my phone" and she snapped saying "I DON'T WANNA SEE YOUR PHONE!" She then called someone and says that they will have to schedule me for the next day. My mom who was talking to me said "You can't do tomorrow can you?" And the lady puts her hand up and yells at my mom to hold on a minute and asks my mom why she is being so hostile. My mom tells her that her behavior was ridiculous and that we shouldn't be being treated so rudely, after we had been the ones inconvenienced. We started to leave the salon and the woman proceeded to ask my mom if she "wanted to take it to the parking lot", insinuating that she wanted to fight us. When my mom and I were in our car she was at the window flipping us off and waving like a child. Never in my life have I been treated so badly in a professional establishment. We took our business to Inspirations salon in Turlock. I got a fast appointment for the same day and they were a million times better than Salon Salon. This is my initial review, I will later revise this after the appointment I booked. For starters, I know I am young and look even younger. But I am no stranger to plastic surgery or spa services. I stopped by here with a coworker and friend during one of their Botox parties. Granted neither of us need Botox, my boyfriend is considering it and wanted some pricing information, while my friend and I were more interested in what salon services they had to offer. There are very few nice salons in this area. This happens to be one of them. But the customer service we received here was absolutely horrid. I can honestly say I have never been so pre qualified in my life. We were greeted rudely, gossiped about within hearing distance, and when we asked for more information we were asked if we would like a price sheet first, insinuating we couldn't afford anything. I want to make this very clear. My age does not determine my income. I know everyone judges, but that is why I dress professionally. Especially considering I came straight from work. I expected so much more from a high end salon. I decided instead of waiting around while employees burnt holes in the back of my head with their eyes, I would rather make my appointment and leave. So I did. I will revise this after my appointment in hopes that the customer service will be better when my wallet is open for them to see. (Edit: I have decided to cancel this appointment and go to Skinfinite Solutions instead. I have always had wonderful service there, from the ladies in the office, to Dr. Enevoldsen, to the customers that frequent there. And I know that they do top notch work. Over the years I've found that Salon Salon isn't as special as I used to think it was. I'm tempted to give them 3 stars but it IS one of the nicer salons in Modesto and I'm feeling generous so I'll keep it at 4. The hair cuts are pricey (around $45 for a trim and blow dry, not including tip) and even though the stylists are really good at what they do, so are the sytlists at other Modesto salons like Panache and they're also $15 cheaper. BEWARE if a stylist wants to "just show you how to do a casual hair style" when you don't ask for an up-do because they will DEFINITELY charge you for a style even though they act like they just want to do something for fun. I think it's completely manipulative of a stylist to talk you into letting them "try something out" on your hair then make you pay for it. I mean, 90% of the time when I get my hair cut I'm just going home to lounge on the couch so I REALLY have no need for an elegant $20 pompadour hairstyle on a Tuesday night. Like previous reviews, I also would not recommend getting any nail work here. I've come here twice for mani/pedis and they ALWAYS chip about 10 seconds after you leave the salon. The cheap nail place across the street is way longer lasting and less than half the price. Salon Salon does have a great selection of OPI nail polish, though. Five stars to Cris McIntire, the salon's best aesthetician in this yelper's opinion. She does a great job on waxes and facials and can also squeeze a client into her busy schedule pretty much any time. She's also really great at making her clients feel relaxed and never rushes anyone even if she might be running behind. Cris also does an amazing job on make-up. I wear foundation and powder every day but the few times she's done my make-up for special occasions she hasn't used powder (which makes everything look so much more natural) and magically my face doesn't look oily even after 4 hours of dancing...I don't know how she does it! Five stars to the product selection. Salon Salon has pretty much any Murad (LOVE LOVE LOVE this facial line) product you could want and they surprisingly do not mark it up AT ALL. read more

Been getting my hair cut and colored here for years by Paulo. Large space so it never feels loud or crowded even when it is. Nice bar for drinks and snacks. From the first moment i walked in, i was amazed. It is very big inside and very nice. They do a temperature check at the door. They have a very big variety of hair products to choose from. My stylist WENDI WOLFLEY is amazing. I came in because my previous hair girl from another salon had fried my hair and did a horrible job. She was able to fix and reverse the damage. She did my hair exactly how i wanted it and was super accondating and honest. Not to mention super sweet. Very down to earth. Okay so, for one, whoever said this place was a glorified supercuts must have a vendetta 'cause this is nothing like supercuts in any way shape or form. The ambiance, I admit, is a bit pretentious and the waiting area is normally filled with a bunch of snooty house moms who think they're better than anyone else in Modesto (news flash: you're not). Anyways, I do NOT recommend getting any nail work done here (see my review of fancy nails). the one time I got a mani/pedi here it was chipped in less than a day. For hair go see Kim. Kim with the red hair. She is amazing. I am SO sad I found her right before I moved to socal. She does wonders and spends a long time getting it just right. For eyebrows, facials, etc see Cris McIntire---she is amazing. She has since become a family friend, and trust me, I miss her so (you can tell by my eyebrows)! The staff here really does take pleasure in making sure you are comfortable and satisfied before and after any service. As far as salons go, this is posh for the city it is in. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because it is so trendy, that it's always filled with, well, overly trendy people. I only go when in town visiting the in-laws and it really is the only "normal" option that I am used to. I have had great pedicures there and recently brought my mother-in-law for her first...and she has been back! I was introduced to one of the hair dressers by my coworker. She was beyond rude borderline bitch. She went on and on about how she refuses to do rainbow hair color and it's not worth her time. She continued about how expensive it is, etc. My coworker interrupted her to ask for a referral for someone who does but she continued to go on how she hates doing color and it is "so five years ago". Customer service was obviously not her strong suit. A simple referral and no would have been acceptable. Her response left everyone uncomfortable including the person next to us. Not pleased with the haircut I received from Enrique (I believe that's the stylists name). I tried this salon for the first time in October. I was impressed with the receptionists, they were very helpful. But my stylist was subpar. The staff highly recommended him due to his experience in New York. I asked for a dry cut, following the blunt bob cut I previously had just asking two to three inches off. He didn't face me towards the mirror so while cutting my hair I so couldn't tell if the cut was what I wanted or not. I could tell the stylist was spending more time in one side than the other but didn't think much of it until I got home. My haircut came out with one side at least a inch or more longer than the other. I no longer had the blunt bob effect. My front is a lot shorter than the rest of the hair. I tried to get my fifty dollars back from the haircut but the salon refused. Be advised, don't waste your money and precious hair on this place. read more

A complete waste of time. As a CFO for an integration firm I am consistently met with time constraints. After a recent move to Modesto from Portland Oregon I was sorely disappointed with the lack of communication and professionalism from this salon. Please be aware this salon requires a consultation before services are completed. This DOES NOT include any services, i.e. A HAIR CUT. Unfortunately this is not explained when the initial appointment is scheduled. For me, not being provided the proper disclosure of procedures up front turned into a complete waste of my time, 400$ in lost income, and work responsibilities left uncompleted due to a daily 90 min commute. I'd been to Salon Salon for manicure/pedicure and brow work in the past. Everyone was very friendly and the customer service was great. So, when my salon in San Francisco closed recently, I decided to give them a chance on my haircut and color. I asked for demi permanent color over the phone and mentioned it again to the stylist. While I was waiting for the color to set, I noticed my scalp was tingling and felt a slight burn. This had never happened before. I also smelled ammonia which I hadn't experienced before. As my hair was being rinsed, I asked the stylist if he had used demi permanent or permanent color. He said he'd used permanent. I explained to him that I had wanted and asked for demi permanent color and his response was that permanent color covers the gray better. I informed him that I didn't care about that. I had wanted demi permanent color because it was gentler on my hair and I had never had a skin test for permanent. My scalp was still so irritated later that night that I had to get up and wash my hair. That experience plus a mediocre cut means I will never be back, nor will I ever recommend them again. read more

I made the mistake in choosing to have a simple root touch-up, and after much misunderstanding, left with a calico amateur-grade ombre. Managment did nothing to remedy my dissatisfaction other than send me home with a bottle of clarifying shampoo in an effort to lift the color.
