I went a month or so ago to get a haircut and my experience was...interesting? The owners were far from "friendly", they were actually quite cold. the man especially. he was robotic and just..cold? I am 16 years old, my hair was bleached at the time, and he tried to convince me to dye my eyebrows because it would "look better". he got the dye out and everything...i'm 16??? and this is not my money, this is my mom's money so i cannot make that decision for myself. it was just so uncomfortable and weird.. the hair came out okay. a lot longer than i asked for unfortunately. it looks a lot more like a bob than the slanted short cut i asked for. gotta go to a queer hairstylist atp.. read more

I've been going to Salon Passione for 14 years now because they have NEVER failed me and my curls. It is sooooo incredibly hard to find experts that know how to do my type of hair but Chad and Grazia have always understood what I wanted and how to execute. I love Salon Passione I have been coming here for about four years and I won't go anywhere else. I have long blonde hair which is difficult to maintain and before going to Chad and Grazia I was going from salon to salon looking for the right person. Now, I fortunately have two exceptional stylist who take care of me and my hair. :0) When you first walk in and take a seat they offer you a coffee or anything you would like to drink. Grazia is the sweetest person, if I want to do something crazy to my hair she advises me on whether it would look good with my skin tone or shape of my face. I think it's amazing that she is honest enough to tell me that that may not work with my complexion, etc. The music and decor is very tasteful. I'm kinda crazy when it comes to loud abnoxious music and Salon Passione gets it right. The music isn't too loud and it is very soothing. I also love the way they wash my hair, I know it sounds weird, but is the most relaxing shampooing I've ever had. Not to mention the fact that they use Kerastase products when shampooing. This place just gets everything right. I highly recommend coming here. He listens to the client, makes recommendations, and comes through beautifully. I've been taking my daughter to him for the past 3 years and he has been wonderful! My daughter ( who is a shy and reserved 14 year old water polo player) comes out radiant and beautiful; Damien is able to inspire her to have confidence and is ever so sweet! Oh yeah! As a former model, I've moved all over, had the best and the worst hair cuts and colors. Chad is, hands down, one of The Best. And bonus -- he's reasonably priced! Through a friend's recommendation, I first went to him with a desperate plea -- "Fix it!?" -- and he did! He made my brassy lemon-head hair the perfect platinum I was looking for. Then, a couple of weeks later when I realized how happy I was with the color, I risked life and limb and went back for a cut. Again, I was delighted! I shouldn't have been surprised: my friend's hair is ADORABLE. I have to admit: I'm not easy. I don't ask for 'normal' cut/color, and I'm not very articulate in my direction. But somehow he gets it. And he doesn't do what he wants to do -- he actually LISTENS to me and gives me the cut/color I WANT. Best of all, he's sassy, patient, honest, and his beautiful wife (and partner) make the whole experience like a little mini party -- and you can sneak in a catnap while you get shampooed! I booked an online appointment with Chad on Yelp for a color and a cut, and was able to get an evening appointment the same day. The salon is clean and bright, I was greeted right away, and brought a cup of fresh coffee in a mug since I had arrived early. As I was waiting, I noticed the customers were all regulars, which was a good sign. I wanted the underside of my head to be a deep purple, and a stylist I had gone to before under processed my hair and it ended up turning red, which Chad explained is the hardest color to lift. He did it though, and he did it fast, without damaging my hair. He also colored the top of my head a dark black to contrast the purple. After the color, there was an amazing head massage during shampooing, then a cut, and blow dry. The whole process took about an hour and a half. Super fast, but no cutting corners on quality. GOT AN AWESOME CUT!!! This is an update on an earlier review about the stellar white-blonde highlights I've received from Chad, which are the holy grail for blondes. I am a natural beigey-golden-ashy blonde, which I only note insofar as my cut relates to my biracial hair, and I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking I was lifted from dark hair. (I have no doubt that they can lift dark hair to blonde, but it's my general understanding that the darker the hair, the more steps involved.) My natural shade lifts fairly easily, but I've not previously received what I wanted at other salons in under 2 hours (and generally not at all what I realky wanted even after tgat long), but Chad got me further to pale than ever WITH foils in ONE hour total in my last 2 visits. But I digress. My cut. I finally got my hair cut after 5-7 years of doing it myself. I have an acute phobia over getting my hair cut because I'm biracial (Black & White), with 3b-3c curls in the back, strange waves in the middle and 4a in the very front. It's always ben traumatic b/c my type of hair NEEDS to be cut dry (since I sometimes go straight), yet most stylists INSIST they can cut wet, but then take too much b/c wet won't address the inconsistent shrinkage. So I don't trust anyone anymore. HOWEVER, Chad refused to cut my hair on my first 2 visits b/c the most flattering length was a bit marred by my self-imposed layers. So I waited 4 months, until we were both ready. That's integrity and the height of professionalism to me, as the "up-sale" didn't matter to him, but the most flattering cut did. I know this is getting long, but biracial hair needs to be treated differently, and it's important to me to give credit where it's due. SO, even though I showed up with my version of straight hair and wanted a dry-cut BEFORE hi-lights, Chad insisted on blow-drying and flat-ironing to get it perfectly straight for the dry-cut. No easy feat when you have a lot of hair. Having read his Yelp reviews, and trusting him from my earlier visits, I decided to trust his instinct and experience with however much to take off. My only goal was an inverted bob, so I showed a few different pictures on my phone, but left the details up to him. HUGE leap of faith for me, but I absolutely felt comfortable with it. And I did get just the best, and most flattering cut! A week later, and I'm still loving it. Epic story short, the cut and highlights left me looking like a better version of me. They said I looked 10 years younger (which is flattering, but I never believe flattery out of habit), but I can honestly say I FELT 10 years "lighter" - I looked like someone who wasn't bogged down with the stress I've had being a caregiver to my elderly parents. I looked like how I used to feel at my most confident, being a career trial lawyer. I looked less worried and more myself on days when things are going well. Maybe seeing myself as I used to be DID take me back 10 years in my appearance, but it really was much more to me to FEEL 10 years happier. So, yeah. What I'm saying is this was an awesome, transformative experience, especially to someone who has forgotten to take care of myself as I did before the stress kinda piled on. Which is a little bit miraculous to me. And my review would be incomplete if I didn't mention how Grazia's presence and sunny enthusiasm really makes it such a lovely experience. She's so warm and open - and the fact that she's a "curly girl" herself extends the trust that I have in Chad to the whole of the business. She's given me tips and took the time to make sure I was happy and comfortable. Just a really great place, amazing people, and such professionalism that you can feel absolutely safe in their hands. If I could...I would give them 0 stars! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I had an appointment with Josh yesterday at 11:00 am. I have been meaning to get a haircut and color for months...but have been on the hunt for something reliable on yelp, word of mouth, etc. Last month, I happened to see a Groupon for this place. I yelped them and from what I read had decent reviews. I made an appointment about two weeks ago. I preferred the weekend and they gave me July 10th, 2011 at 11:00 am. After getting off the phone with them, I received a text from them confirming this date and time. A few days before my appointment, I received another text asking to confirm my appointment which I did. The day before I received another text reminding me of my hair appointment. So I received 3 texts from them!!! Yet, when I got there yesterday...THE SALON WAS CLOSED. NO ONE IN SIGHT!!! I waited for 45 minutes. Thinking they might be running late but no one ever came. Gees, how unprofessional can they get?!??! I drove an hour to get there and they weren't there. How are they going to remind me of my appointment 3 times when they would of been reminding themselves. Why the hell would they schedule me if they were closed!? What a bunch of retards!! I was hoping this would be a place I could be a regular too after using my Groupon. I was going to give them a chance. What a waste of time and gas! I am still heated over it. I guess I have to agree with other reviews that they aren't really interested in business.... It's been hard finding a stylist who actually listens to what I want and follows through with it, but Chad, the owner, did exactly what I was looking for. He listened to what I asked for, educated me on what would turn out the best and my hair turned out great! In my opinion, this is HANDS DOWN the best place to go in Pasadena for blonde highlights. I've been going to Chad at Salon Passione for my highlights and cut for 15 years! Chad and his wife Grazia run the salon together and are very hard-working and passionate about their small business. He never disappoints, and I always get so many compliments on my color. People are often very surprised when they find out that I highlight my hair because Chad makes the highlights so thin and blended in with my real color (dark blonde/light brown) that they look very natural. He hates me a little for only getting my hair done twice per year (I'm a busy woman with lots of student loans!), but because he does such a great job I'm able to wait a pretty long time and my hair still looks good and I STILL get compliments on the color even when the highlights are grown out. read more

She was super friendly and listened to what I wanted and my concerns (I always get a bit nervous when I have someone cut my bangs). First off, I am very particular about my hair, so I am a bit more critical than some people. I used to go to Jubilee a block down to get my hair done, but after my regular hairstylist moved to West LA, my visits to that place have been less than satisfactory. After my last two visits to Jubilee, and trying out two new stylists there, I decided I should look for a new salon. I saw this salon had good reviews on yelp, so I decided to give it a shot. After my visit, I have very mixed feelings about this place. They have a nice clean salon with a comfortable atmosphere, and everyone in the salon was very friendly. I was a walk-in and they were able to accommodate me very quickly. I ended up getting Damien, who actually came over from Jubilee. I was hesitant hearing that, but I decided to stay open minded. I told him what I wanted but I also told him that I was open to suggestions. I told him the length I wanted, the over all style, and a couple of details about my past unsatisfactory haircuts from Jubilee. One thing I stressed was that I had bangs the last two times I cut my hair, but I decided to grow them out and that's why it had been so long since I had my hair cut. During the cut, he strongly suggested that I should continue with bangs, even though I said I liked my face without them much better. He said that my bangs were probably not cut properly to swoop to the side and that maybe they were cut too short so that my glasses wouldn't hold them back. I told him I trusted him to do what he thought best then. After the conversation, off we went. The shampoo and conditioning was wonderful and very relaxing. The cut was a pleasurable experience with wonderful small talk, and he did a nice job styling. Now backing up a bit, I am blinder than a bat without my glasses, so during the cut I couldn't see what was happening. I only saw the cut after he was completely done. I loved the length, I loved the shape of the back, but my bangs ended up being very similar to the last two times I got my hair cut and I was not too pleased. I also know that I don't style my hair the way they do at the salon, so I decided to give it a day and see how my hair falls after I styled it. I was a bit appalled the next day to see that the left side of my head had a nice gradual incline from the back of the cut to the front of my face, but the right side was choppy. I could see different levels of cuts on the right side of my face and the transition was just not as smooth as the other side. On top of that, the bangs look just as bad as the last few times I've had it cut. Overall, I didn't have a bad experience, but I'm not very happy with my cut. Damien is a wonderful hairstylist, but I just don't think he's well suited for me. He did nail the length and overall shape of the cut, which was a much better job than what the people at Jubilee had done, but the execution of the details just didn't meet my standards. read more
