Motoki was great; he asked how much hair I was looking to cut off and offered some ideas for my hair. The shampooing was great, the head massage was a nice touch. A hidden gem! I came across this salon looking for a place that could cater to my super thick and straight hair. This place overdelivers. Very chill, super casual, and always punctual. I have avoided salons for a long time because it's usually a ceremony just to get a haircut. This is not that. Super friendly people, just overall great service and a great experience. Motoki is definitely at the top of his craft. I don't even know what I want for a haircut but he's able to understand my basic requirements and transform it into the right haircut. Hidden spot in Pasadena and I'm glad I found this gem thanks to a neighbor! This salon is considered a true Japanese salon, which I've never experienced before, only been going to Korean salons the past several years. I made an appointment for Wednesday evening and I didn't have to wait at all. Motoki was the only one there at that time so it was a great time getting to know about him and the business. Motoki cut my hair with mainly his shears so that's a rare thing, since most have their electric razors. The best part of going here was the hair washing and massage. I was already tired from the day and during the wash and a head/shoulder massage, I almost knocked out and wished it lasted longer! It's been hard finding a salon that 1) Knows how to care for and cut asian hair properly 2) Spends time and pays attention to detail with the wash, cut, and style and 3) Gives you a proper pampered salon experience. N 147 does all those things and for very fair prices! Motoki was amazing. I have ultra thick wavy Asian hair, and I have lots of it. Motoki took time to look at the texture of my hair, and he really listened to what I wanted. I asked him to keep as much length as possible and to remove some volume, and he did just that. I can't recommend Motoki enough! The salon space was neat and clean and is in Salon Republic. There must be a planet somewhere where extremely good hairdressers go. It is upsetting when I find one and they leave the salon nowhere to be seen or heard. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I found this place on IG! One of my best haircuts is with a Japanese stylist. I booked an appointment with Masa and it didn't disappoint! This place doesn't have the amount of reviews it deserves. I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could. I'm always searching for a good hair cut, but I typically lean towards Japanese salons. I've always gotten amazing hair cuts in Japan and it's obviously hard to find that caliber back here. It's one thing to find a Japanese salon (there's plenty of those) but it's usually the style of cut I'm looking for and I think I've found it here at N° 147 with Motoki. Motoki took my dead and dry bleached ends and gave my hair life. The ends of my hair are so soft and healthy right now. My hair before my cut was mostly a single length with very few layers. Motoki added some layers in the front to show off my highlights even more. (Just a note, I didn't get my highlights here, I had them when I came in). He was very upfront about how much he would need to cut and where he would be cutting, and I have to say, he was very accurate about it. You get a nice little massage with the cut, and overall, it's like a very nice peaceful vibe inside. Motoki and I were the only two people inside during my appointment, which I really liked. COVID is still a concern for me, and I definitely appreciated that it wasn't a packed salon with 1 stylist working on 3 people with 4 other people waiting. You're very much the only client that each stylist works with. My boyfriend also really likes coming here. Other than the cut, you can find parking near Oakland and El Dorado. It's free 2 hour street parking there, and I saw plenty (I went in on a weekday in the middle of the day). If you're getting your hair dyed or going in for a longer process, you might want to check with the salon to see if you can park in the church lot. I don't think N° 147 has their own dedicated lot. The salon is located below street level on Los Robles. I think it's pretty easy to find, but look for stairs that go down from the street, not up. read more

I've been looking for a good salon for my hair needs closer to home for quite a while, and it looks like I finally found it! I came here after work on a Friday, and got a new cut and color that I liked. Motoki was attentive and nice, he made suggestions when I was quite lost and couldn't decide on how I wanted my hair done. It was also nice to talk to him. This is a a Japanese salon, and when you get your hair washed they put a piece of soft paper-like shield on your face. Don't be alarmed! They also give you a massage which is great! I am very happy with my results from the hair bleaching/toning session by stylist Motoki. Motoki was very gentle with my hair and did his best to protect my hair from too much damage, which I really appreciated. He turned my level 4 hair to level 7 or 8 in 4 hours. Even though he was already vaccinated, we still kept our masks on the entire time. The salon was very clean, and I was the only client at the time of my appointment, so I felt very safe there.
