This review is long overdue, but I couldn't go without sharing how wonderful my experience was with Ronika! She did an absolutely beautiful job on my hair color. I'm still in love with how it turned out, but what really stood out was how kind, friendly, and accommodating she was throughout my entire appointment. I was pregnant at the time and not feeling my best, but knew getting my hair done would give me the feel good boost I needed. Ronika went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. She offered me breaks whenever I needed them, made sure the chair was comfortable, and even checked if the smell of the shampoo and conditioner would be okay for my extra-sensitive pregnancy nose (a small detail, but it meant so much!). I have been a customer of Jane for a few years and she does an amazing job on my cuts and highlights! I initially visited her to correct a color that I wasn't happy with and she darkened my color for a few visits before getting into highlights again - she knows what she's doing! The service I received from this salon was TOP NOTCH. I had sent a request for an appointment through yelp around 7:50pm and Jane replied within actual minutes. Jane was attentive and extremely helpful, she described where the salon was (it is a bit difficult to find since it's inside an arcade) and where I could find parking. I told Jane I wanted a haircut IMMEDIATELY and Jane pulled through with an 11am appointment with Ronika the very next day. I was anxious as this was my first time going to this salon but it was proven unnecessary as I was ushered quickly to my seat with a warm welcome. Ronika. I love you. Ronika took my half-baked idea of a haircut and turned it into ART. All I knew going in was I wanted my hair cut to around my shoulders and that I wanted bangs. That's it. Ronika took that idea and RAN WITH IT. She was meticulous and asked questions throughout to make sure she was cutting the hair to my liking. I appreciated how she cut my hair in increments- she would ask if I wanted to go shorter or if the length she cut was fine. This was repeated as she cut my bangs as well, with the added bonus of her asking if I wanted them thicker or not. I'm a little late to doing my own hair and as she finished up the cut and started to style my hair, she walked me through what she was doing, what products she was using, and how I could style my bangs to get that nice wispy look. She took into consideration my fine thin hair and used products that would not be too heavy on it. I've never felt so good after a haircut and the amount of compliments I've received from friends and family has been shocking and extremely flattering. Not too mention!!! All throughout her wonderful haircut, Ronika was a great conversationalist and had me laughing the entire time I was sat in her chair. It was like sitting and chatting with an old friend. Such a long overdue review. I absolutely adore this salon and now will not go anywhere else. Michael is an absolute wizard!! I love him for what he did to my hair. He completely transformed my hair -- I reached out to Jane right after I had my hair botched by somebody, it looked terrible and I was very self conscious about it, plus I was leaving for vacation in a few days. I reached out to multiple salons in desperation that someone could fix my hair. Jane replied to me immediately and spoke to me for an HOUR on a Friday night about my hair, gave me a million recommendations, and ultimately I went with Michael. I will never forget her generosity for helping me when I needed help. Michael is a sweetheart and now the only person I trust with my hair. I am saddened to see the review by Martha A. below as this was a false review. I was there for that interaction and the staff was anything but rude nor discriminatory. Martha A. Came in with a family member WITHOUT an appointment for a consult. Each stylist has a designated slot for each of their clients. Making it quite difficult to step away. My stylist tried to make it work by asking other stylist and no one could step away as they were busy with their clients who made appointments, including myself (who flew from NY just to get my hair done here at this salon). My stylist was empathetic to her as she let her know that everyone was busy and suggested she text the salon to guarantee a slot for her family member.Of course, Martha left upset and felt the need to personally attack the business by bringing race into it. Which is absurd since the staff is diverse and so is the client population (including myself). My experience at the salon was nothing but a luxury. The stylists were absolutely kind and attentive. The space is clean and in a good location for food and a cute view of the sweet baby ballerinas that walk by. It is such a great salon for a serotonin boost. I initially visited Jane Alea Salon on 3/28 for a mini highlight. I appreciated that Jane texted with me before my appointment to get a feel for what I wanted and to provide a price quote. She quoted me $500 because I needed color correction and had long hair. Although this is a lot of money, I thought it was reasonable because I did need my color corrected and do have a lot of hair. My appointment was with Sara. She was very sweet, but I do not feel the price charged accurately represents her skill. When I left the salon, I was satisfied with my hair. However as the week went on, I noticed the placements of highlights were very off. They were all placed towards the front of my head. Depending on the way I parted my hair, the highlights became very lopsided. There was no color placed on the bottom half of my head. The hair underneath is very dark brown while the top of my head was brightened with highlights. This was disappointing since I was told I was charged more because I had a lot of hair. The tone of my hair also looked odd, and I didn't see much of a color correction. I have never reached out to a salon after an experience, but I felt so disappointed with the amount of money I spent (including a 20% tip on $500), I decided to reach out. I texted Jane explaining how I felt and sent her pictures. She agreed with my concerns and offered me another appointment to correct the highlights. I was a bit surprised that she would not offer to personally correct my hair but instead scheduled me with Sara, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Regarding the color correction, Jane suggested that it could be the products I use; however I don't believe this is the case as I use high-end color safe products only. I am not new to colored hair and willing to spend $$ to keep my color looking fresh. I didn't want to be difficult, so I figured I should give Sara another chance to even out the highlights. Unfortunately the result was not what I wanted. There were more highlights added to the front of my head which makes the lack of highlights on the back of my head even more obvious. Additionally, I was told I needed a color correction but my color still appears "off" despite paying $500. So, I really just paid for uneven highlights and half my head of hair not being highlighted at all. The most disappointing part of my experience is that Jane did not reach out to check on my results. While I was in Sara's chair I expressed to her that it didn't look much better, but she shrugged it off, and I felt uncomfortable being "difficult." I won't be returning to this salon and urge others to be aware of the pricing despite lack of skill. I now will be visiting another salon for a color correction due to the services received at Jane Alea Salon. The new colorist has quoted me $350, quite the difference from $500! read more
