I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Fiona Wills' exceptional talent as my stylist at Salon Xia! From the moment I walked through the door, Fiona's professionalism and warm demeanor made me feel right at home. She attentively listened to my hair aspirations and offered valuable suggestions, showcasing her expertise and commitment to providing a personalized experience. Fiona's attention to detail and precision were remarkable as she worked her magic, turning my hair into a true masterpiece! From the flawless cut to the stunning color, I left the salon feeling absolutely thrilled with the results! In fact, as soon as I walked out I got a compliment passing by the Vroman's back entrance--little did I know this was one of many compliments I would receive throughout the entire day out on the town from not only friends and family but mostly just random strangers! What sets Fiona apart is not only her technical skill but also her genuine care for her clients. Throughout the entire process, she made sure I felt comfortable and informed, going above and beyond to exceed my expectations. Her passion for her craft and exceptional customer service make her a standout stylist at Salon Xia (she's award winning for a reason). I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a top-tier stylist who delivers amazing results with a personal touch. Five stars all the way for Fiona--she gave me exactly what I wanted and I genuinely can't recommend her enough! Check out Fiona's work on her Instagram: @proartistfifi P.S. Mark's salon playlist was as fire as my hair and it needs a shoutout as well!

Love my highlights by Akane Omura! She understood me perfectly on what I wanted will definitely go back!

After I submitted my review, the owner of the salon, Mark, reached out to me to find a solution to my bad experience. He offered me a full refund, but I asked if someone more qualified can redo my hair as I was so unhappy with it. I was very happy and impressed by Mark's professionalism and willingness to get it right. I scheduled with Akane and she completely fixed my hair. She took her time and made sure I was happy with each step. I am blown away by how nicely she transformed my hair. I will come back here again only for Akane! She was incredible!!! I appreciate their willingness to make me happy and getting me in with a real, qualified stylist.

I wanted a fresh A-line cut and showed inspo pics. Definitely did not come close to what I asked. This has been the worst hair cut of my life. They offered to fix it with the Salon owner but after the job that they did I do not trust their hairstylist and there was nothing left to cut.

I had my first visit with Akane for a haircut and I ended up going back for highlights because I loved her work that much. She is so sweet and gentle and listens to what you want. I walked in and told her I didn't like having long hair so she gave me a cute long pixie. I then showed her images of how I wanted to color my hair and she delivered. Literally everyone at work loved the cut and THEY LOVED THE HIGHLIGHTS MORE. I definitely recommend asking for Akane when visiting this salon. I have not had the chance to get ready and completely style my hair due to work schedule but I will share better photos when I do

Ashley is amazing!! The quality of her balayage is the best and she is extremely personable too. Love her!

Thank you Ashley for transforming my hair into this. I feel so much more confident than I did when I walked into the salon this morning!

highly recommend ashley!!! i have followed her since she was in san diego. despite me living in hawai'i now, she still checks in on me to see how my hair is doing! recently, i flew to san diego for a quick trip and took the drive up all the way to pasadena to see her.. its hard for me to trust new people with my hair so i always stick with her whenever i can!! she remembers how i maintain my hair, included weather on the islands, and my lifestyle to help curate a balayage that i can maintain. she cuts only what is needed to keep my hair long, and a "lived in balayage" look. she recommended products to keep that caramel and blonde up, and so far a week later, it is still looking super fresh!! thanks ashley, i will be seeing you in 6 months!!

I want to start by saying I am genuinely sad to be leaving this review. I'm a Pasadena local and have been to Salon XIA 3 times now. Two great experiences and, unfortunately, one really bad one as of today. My first time coming to Salon XIA I met with Mark for a big healthy haircut and he was so welcoming and kind that I knew I'd come back to get some color. A few months later, I came back to go from a faded red to a darkest brown with Fiona. I loved Fiona's energy and she made me look striking with a darkest brown (that turn out a little darker than we hoped but was still gorgeous!). I liked Fiona so much that I actually recommended her to a friend of mine who saw her as well an had a wonderful experience. A week ago, I made an appointment for today to get that darkest brown root touched up and to get some curtain bang/face framing since my engagement photos are in just a few days. I intended on booking with Fiona but due to my budget, I couldn't afford her rate. There was a significant price difference for her and another stylist Akane so I chose another stylist for a root touch up/cut/blow dry. That is where it felt like my first mistake had been made when yesterday, I revived a text from Akane about my color/roots and then a call from Fiona and then a call from the salon. It was a lot all at once! It started to feel like drama over who I booked and I felt uncomfortable having to explain my choice was for financial reasons (and a little because my darkest brown stained my pillow for a week or two after my color with Fiona but that felt like not her fault and just product) but mostly the pricing that worked for me. Anyways, I came to my appointment today already a bit anxious about yesterday, thinking I upset people for booking someone new, but everyone was very nice. I felt like my roots were done decently but she did not actually match my previous color and decided we needed to go lighter and then blend it if I wanted auburn hair for my wedding in a year (something I mentioned as a maybe and had a hard time explaining it was just an idea). It isn't VERY noticeable but in the right light but you can tell that the roots are dark brown and the rest of my hair is black. Something I sure hope doesn't show in my engagement photos. Now, here's where it all went wrong. I started to see I didn't love the two tone colors (as subtle as it was) and so I got quiet. She kept asking me "are you okay?" and I was fine... processing my thoughts about the color as she was drying...until I wasn't because I was getting uncomfortable with the constant asking. So I started just talking about other things until it was time for my cut. I showed her my Inspo picture again and reiterated "curtain bangs and face framing layers" and she replied she understood and would texture and cut "about 1 inch". She kept cutting and cutting and it got shorter and shorter with no layers or framing in sight yet and I started to panic. Another ask of "are you okay?" came and I said "no I'm not, I didn't ask for short and you keep cutting. This isn't what I wanted" she also then started to panic and continued to cut. I said "please stop cutting I don't like this I didn't want length gone- I have engagement photos in 5 days". She then said "I need you to not be uncomfortable" which really felt wrong to say and in fact made me waaaay more uncomfortable. Then she said "what do you want me to do to fix it?" And, unfortunately, I didn't have that answer. It felt like there was nothing left to fix without going shorter and I'm not a trained stylist so I couldn't answer that properly. Finally, she grabbed another stylist (I'm so sorry I never caught her name but bless her) who stepped in and fixed what she could to give me some shape, resulting in a layered Bob I did not intend for. It was what it was, I was just ready to leave. I was not charged for the cut but I was charged for the color and when I was checking out I felt so pressured by Akane as I was filling out the tip and running my card for $100 still with roots I was not satisfied with either that I was shaking and staring to have a panic attack from the experience. She once again asked if I was okay and I do apologize for having to say "no, I'm not and please don't ask me again because it is making my panic attack worse". I ran my card and ran out of there to my car to cry. Mark, I am so sad for this experience and feel I will not be back to your salon. Fiona, I am terribly sorry for not rebooking with you to know I was in good hands- I was only trying to make my budget work. To the stylist that stepped in, thank you for your calm and kindness. Edit: adding photos of my root touch up... I actually see it's worse than I thought

Toner touch up, and some beach waves

If you come here definitely go to akane! She's literally amazing and makes all your visions come true. I've been using her services for almost a year now and she always gets it right! Especially because I change my color every time I go Definitely recommend her!!

Grace immediately got to work after we communicated what I was looking for, using the reference photos she asked for along with her own input as a hush cut specialist. The salon itself is very clean, airy, and modern. Despite looking small from the outside, it doesn't feel small at all. There's no strong chemical smell from hair dyes, ammonia, or bleach, which I really appreciated. The staff are super friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I would definitely come back again in the future. After the cut, my confidence level boosted so much. Thank you Grace.

I reached out before booking a $500-$600 hair service because I genuinely care about my hair and wanted to be thoughtful before committing. I asked straightforward questions about how many sessions it might take, how long it would take, pricing, and how my hair health would be handled. These were not abstract questions. They were about my own hair and my own money. At first, I was told I could come in for a more direct consultation. When I followed up and asked when a good time would be, the tone changed. I was told this is "not an educational organization," that questions about my own hair should be directed to my previous stylist, and that consultations were not available because they were "too busy," especially on Fridays and Saturdays. That honestly caught me off guard, especially after being encouraged to come in. It started to feel like asking questions at all was unwelcome. What bothered me wasn't that they were busy. I get that. It was how I was shut down. Instead of simply saying we might not be the right fit, the responses felt dismissive and made it seem like I was being difficult for wanting clarity. I stayed polite the entire time and never asked for anything unreasonable. I just didn't want to walk in blind. This experience was especially disappointing because I chose this salon intentionally after reading negative reviews and believing the public responses showed care and accountability. I understand every business has bad reviews and nobody is perfect. But after this interaction, those reviews suddenly made a lot more sense. I'll be honest: I almost booked based on the photos alone. The work looks beautiful. But talent isn't the only thing that matters. Integrity, communication, and having a client's best interest in mind matter just as much. Sharing this so others know to read beyond the pictures and decide for themselves what kind of experience they want. No one should feel small or brushed off for asking questions before paying for a service.

Frankly, although Rae does not charge as much as many very expensive hair stylists, she is *not* inexpensive and this was the most that I've ever paid for a haircut. After receiving no reply via phone after leaving her a couple of messages, I finally had to find her on Instagram and sent her a photo of my obviously uneven bangs. Apparently now fearing that I would post something negative to her account or leave a bad review somewhere, she offered to refund the entire cost of the haircut rather than make this quick fix. I was floored. While happy to not have to end up paying my hard-earned money to someone who basically was cruel to me via her respect for only her feelings with none for me, I knew that she was paying me off. As I didn't want to spend any more time or energy on this or her, she's been successful with that until now. But she's come up again, and I can see all of these great reviews and the feelings of rejection have returned. So I must be such an asshole to deserve to be treated like one, right? No. Our session together was perfectly normal, and Rae just cannot accept that she could make such a small oversight and that a client may not be 100% happy with her work--i.e. she exists beyond reproach. She's an artist, mind you! If you can be happy with that, yes she does good work and it seems that most of the time she gets it right with clients (particularly if they have lots of Instagram followers, I suspect but cannot ascertain) or they just don't bother or feel comfortable mentioning any dissatisfaction. I just don't like people thinking they can treat others like trash because they are an artist in some high-priced field. It's a fucking haircut attached to a human being. Just be a nice person and have some grace.
