This is the color I left with...
    Dianne G.

Paid about $350 more or less just to leave with my hair looking blue black even though I had got it bleached specifically so that I could dye it dark grey.... Even darla's, or whatever her name is, employees were staring with their jaws dropped because they knew she had ruined my hair. She actually traumatized me and I haven't gotten my hair colored SINCE then...

Darla is the owner and has been doing my hair for the past year. I recommend her every time someone asks me where to get their hair colored. She's very professional and easy going. I would highly suggest that if you're getting your hair colored to set at least 5 hours of your life uninterrupted for it. Parking: there's street parking and lot parking available. I would suggest parking where the mall area is so you won't have to worry about the time constraints. I parked in a meter parking for 2 hours and boy I was wrong. Didn't know it would take 4+ hours to do balayage and I had to leave in the middle of it to pay the meter. Now I park in that lot or Uber there. Value/Price: compared to the other big salons in downtown Pasadena, this place is around the same value if not a little cheaper. Overall thoughts: I would recommend getting your hair colored with Darla. You can set up an appointment with her on her instagram and book ahead of time. @darlaa_g on IG

I got my hair hair done from Darla. The first time I did my roots touch up, it came out fine. The second time around, first of all she did not explain any risk of the outcome that I may have. She didn't even question me what color I wanted, I'm assuming she would just do the same. When she was washing my hair, 50% if not more of my hair broke off where the original roots was. If she knew it was going to cause harm, she should of told me or give me another option. When I got home , I realized I have chemical burns on my forehead and multiple scabs formed on my scalp. the day of my original appointment she canceled on me just about 50 min prior. So we had agreed to meet at 8 am the following week. She was 40 minute late. The only reason I had made the appointment early is because I had to leave the salon by 2pm. Around 12 pm, I told Darla that if she doesn't have the time To finish extensions I can come back another time . I'll just do the roots for now. She insist she can Finish, but she couldn't I ended up leaving the salon at 3:15 pm. Also I left with my hair half wet and unstyled because there was not enough time. Her and her colleague talk a lot of crap about the clients behind their back. I noticed multiple Occasions that when a client walks away from the chair, Darla and her partner would be talking about them. They are not professional at all in my experience. !! Be careful ! They might talk Crap behind your back too . The pictures I post does no justice ... but it's something for you guys to see. It's hard to take picture of scabs on scalp.

My salon go to!! Darla has been doing my hair for over 8yrs now and never disappoints and Lisa is amazing as well! Make sure to book here, you will return for that touch up or fun hair change. Everyone there is always kind and good vibes, I enjoy my self care days at Shyne Studio

My conversation with Darla Glover #3

Specifically for DARLA GLOVER regarding her unprofessionalism, combativeness, rudeness and inability to properly service her clients: I've had my hair colored by Darla 4x since Sept 12th 2018 - the most recent being Wed 26th March 2020. Darla was over 30 minutes late for this service. Upon request, we have gradually dyed my hair lighter in a balayage style. I showed her what I wanted which was a pic of HER OWN WORK on MY HAIR from the PREVIOUS APPOINTMENT. Darla agreed to it. There was no longwinded conversation. Just a verbal short agreement and a head nod. I trusted that the end result would be somewhat aligned to what I wanted. It was not. It was much darker and an overall different shade altogether. It was towards the styling stage where I questioned Darla on the color. She blew it off with a technical excuse about toner. She said that I would have to wait a few weeks for the toner to wash out, which would result in a lighter color. I thought this was odd because I've never had to wait "x" amount of weeks after to see the color I wanted. I've always left the salon with it done. It also should be noted that Darla did slightly trim my hair upon my request. After the service, Darla took a photo of the back of my hair as per usual and it wasn't until I was waiting for my ride home that I questioned her again. At this point, she was servicing another client. I showed her my original picture of what I wanted and the end result, side by side. She then told me that due to having my hair loosely curled in the before and straightened in the after, this caused the difference in color. I had somewhere to go and sat with it, to try to grow to like it & understand her perspective. Multiple people confirmed it wasn't CLOSE to being the same. I looked at multiple before & afters of myself. I took photos of myself in natural light/ sunlight/ ring light, both in the style Darla gave me and then natural curls. It was at this point that I texted Darla a lengthy, but polite paragraph to voice my concerns. I wanted to see what could be done to work together to fix this. She did not respond until days later, after I had sent a 2nd message (see attached pics of our entire conversation). Instead of accepting fault and most importantly trying to remedy the situation with a solution, she was quick to send a bunch of poorly communicated texts which all pointed the finger back at me. She used a raft of excuses, including lighting, the position of the where I was seated in the studio, the hair style, the hair cut, the toner. She painted me as a difficult, whining, hard to please customer, lying by saying I had an issue after each service. This was my second time ever alerting Darla of an issue. The first being my 2nd ever salon appointment when I noticed the work was sloppy and poorly done. I left with ginger roots and chunks of even blonde streaks through my hair. At that time, she asked that I send through pics of my hair, which I did. Darla was also very late for this service but reduced my fee slightly. I polite and ultimately decided that I would just suck it up, deal with it & have it resolved at our next appointment months down the track. My mistake. In order to further paint this narrative of me, she also hopelessly tried to falsely claim that I had complained about my hair color on the third occasion too which made no sense (The very same occasion that I used as pic inspiration) She claims that me exclaiming "oh my god, it's so blonde" in the salon chair was clearly a negative remark. Grasping at straws. To protect herself and her own ego, Darla tried to use these instances as a way to deflect responsibility, when really it was just two cases of HER SUB PAR WORK. Darla's 1st approach here was to recommend that I no longer be her client. I have spent around $1,000 with her throughout this journey and her blasé, careless attitude towards me is indicative to how she truly feels towards her clients. She will make money from us but not care about our feelings or opinions on OUR OWN HAIR. Getting your hair cut, colored, styled is a co-creation between 2 people: the client and stylist. You don't book a hair appointment and let it come out a mystery. *Please note: I did go back in to get my hair fixed as offered. The 1st thing she said to me was a snide remark like "it looks pretty light to me". I ignored her. We didn't speak during the service. The lady who washed my hair was sweet and great, but when she left to the back with Darla, she returned acting different. It was obvious they gossiped about me in the back. I asked to leave with my natural hair and they didn't have the proper products to cater to multiracial 3b/c curls, so I looked crazy but at that point it was whatever. Darla also complains about family matters during all services. Something about her family member's court case and her interaction with the police. Not appropriate. I don't recommend Darla or Shyne Hair Studio. Steer clear.

Jasmine was so amazing! This was my first time getting eyelash extensions and I loved how she explained the whole process as she was going. She made me feel so comfortable. Her work space was so neat and the music she played was very relaxing. I love the little take home bag she gave me that came with my own personal eyelash wand so I can brush my lashes on the go. I left extremely satisfied with my eyelashes and my overall experience with Jasmine. Since getting them done, I haven't felt the need to have to wear makeup so it makes my getting ready routine so much faster. I had a great first time experience with her and I will definitely go back to her. I recommend her to everyone I know!

I go to Darla all the time. She is chill, friendly, and knows what she's doing! It's difficult to put your trust in a hairstylist (especially after having one ruin your hair color), but I trust Darla! Shown below are the hair colors she has done on me.

Had my lashes done and I am in love I cannot see myself without them. Jasmine is so talented and the best at what she does. I would highly recommend her and for brows too book your appointment!!

Got my second session done today with Darla and I'm SOOOOOOOOO happy!!!! I had dark brown hair and during my first session I went lighter and my second session my hair is almost platinum! It's so beautiful! Darla really took her time and made sure I had realistic expectations. I drive from Anaheim all the way here because I know she's the best at what she does. My hair is in decent health (only because I have previously dyed my hair at home before bleaching) and from going dark brown to very light blonde I'm so glad I didn't have to cut any length! I had my sessions one month apart.

Got my lashes done for the first time by Jasmine! Got the DOE eye volume set and I'm obsessed. Can't thank her enough for being so patient with me, I was a little nervous at first. She explained the process to me and I felt very comfortable. Going back for a fill for sure!

I can not rave about this salon enough! I walked in with long healthy hair, came out with long healthy hair. Darla was my stylist & I had black hair & needed a natural looking change I was very nervous because we have all had that bad salon experience. She was super sweet and so was everyone else at the salon. Very welcoming and accommodating. Extremely professional& knowledgeable about hair and products. I definitely recommend to all family and friends !! I'm never going anywhere else !!

Grace immediately got to work after we communicated what I was looking for, using the reference photos she asked for along with her own input as a hush cut specialist. The salon itself is very clean, airy, and modern. Despite looking small from the outside, it doesn't feel small at all. There's no strong chemical smell from hair dyes, ammonia, or bleach, which I really appreciated. The staff are super friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I would definitely come back again in the future. After the cut, my confidence level boosted so much. Thank you Grace.

I reached out before booking a $500-$600 hair service because I genuinely care about my hair and wanted to be thoughtful before committing. I asked straightforward questions about how many sessions it might take, how long it would take, pricing, and how my hair health would be handled. These were not abstract questions. They were about my own hair and my own money. At first, I was told I could come in for a more direct consultation. When I followed up and asked when a good time would be, the tone changed. I was told this is "not an educational organization," that questions about my own hair should be directed to my previous stylist, and that consultations were not available because they were "too busy," especially on Fridays and Saturdays. That honestly caught me off guard, especially after being encouraged to come in. It started to feel like asking questions at all was unwelcome. What bothered me wasn't that they were busy. I get that. It was how I was shut down. Instead of simply saying we might not be the right fit, the responses felt dismissive and made it seem like I was being difficult for wanting clarity. I stayed polite the entire time and never asked for anything unreasonable. I just didn't want to walk in blind. This experience was especially disappointing because I chose this salon intentionally after reading negative reviews and believing the public responses showed care and accountability. I understand every business has bad reviews and nobody is perfect. But after this interaction, those reviews suddenly made a lot more sense. I'll be honest: I almost booked based on the photos alone. The work looks beautiful. But talent isn't the only thing that matters. Integrity, communication, and having a client's best interest in mind matter just as much. Sharing this so others know to read beyond the pictures and decide for themselves what kind of experience they want. No one should feel small or brushed off for asking questions before paying for a service.

The hair that Adriana had to deal with was "virgin" hair untouched by processing but very fine. I don't know anything about balayage (and that it works from the tips to the root, not vice-versa) so she helpfully showed me a few pics of gray highlighting and we were set to go. I love the ambience there; very chillax. This happened right between Thanksgiving and Christmas and you get burnt out on all the bouncy music everywhere you go. Luckily, I picked a very quiet establishment with just soft jazzy versions of the holiday stuff. The many live plants as decor really adds to the spa vibe. Make sure you keep your voices low so as not to disturb other patrons, many of whom are fellow Asians like me. I read on their website about the "Head Spa" that they do, which is kind of a 20/40/60 minute facial but for your scalp. Those chairs are so comfy you will, if you're not careful, fall asleep. Every major service (cut and highlights for me) will include a scalp massage. They block out the overhead lights and you feel like you're floating lying down. I might come back regularly for this alone. I recommend this place for people who have stress headaches. They say they use pure jojoba and help exfoliate your scalp. The total for a long hair cut was $94 and the cost of highlights was $325. You put down $100 deposit with your credit card when you make the appointment and they don't cash it until your service is complete. Make sure you're on time or early (I suggest at least 15 mins) or you will be charged 100% penalty. Parking is limited to behind Lake Ave in "Shoppers Lane." If they run out of spots you can also park at the Trader Joe's (west side of Lake) and just buy something there so you can get validated. It was pricey but well worth it. My stylist advised that I come in every few months for toner rinse to keep the highlights bright since the gray will just come in naturally after that. Don't be afraid to do it! Ask for Adriana.

I booked an "Occasion Styling" appointment ($120) with Marie Kazarian for my Senior Prom after being recommended by a friend who had a positive experience at the salon for the same service. Two days before my appointment, Marie texted asking for photos of the styles I wanted. I sent two options, and she assured me she could do both. When I arrived, she asked to see my Prom dress and suggested we go with an updo instead of a half-up, half-down style. From the start, the appointment felt unprofessional. She didn't ask any questions about my hair type, texture, or how it holds style. She began curling my hair with a large-barrel curling iron but used no heat protectant or styling products. The curls fell out within minutes. When attempting the updo, it quickly became clear she didn't have a plan. The result was a stiff, messy bun with random pieces pinned awkwardly--completely different from what I had shown her. After two failed attempts, I asked her to switch to a half-up, half-down style, hoping it would be easier. At that point, I felt frustrated because I shouldn't have to lower my expectations when I'm paying for a specific look. Unfortunately, the second attempt was no better. She pulled my hair into an uneven ponytail with no teasing, shaping, or effort to match the reference photos. I became so upset that I started crying and texted my mom, who was sitting across the salon. My mom ended up stepping in to help guide Marie because it was clear she didn't know how to execute the style. The entire experience was incredibly upsetting. I spent the rest of the appointment in tears, and despite other stylists clearly seeing how distressed I was, as I made eye contact with various of them, no one offered assistance. When Marie's next client arrived, I had to leave with my hair unfinished and poorly styled. What stood out the most was how completely unapologetic Marie was throughout the entire appointment. At no point did she acknowledge that things were going wrong, offer a solution, or show any concern for how upset I was. Instead, she dismissed the situation by saying, "It's going to look better when you have your dress and makeup on," which only made things worse. I ended up going home and having to completely redo my own hair for Prom after paying $120 for a professional service. That alone says everything. I left the salon having paid for a hairstyle that looked nothing like what I requested and for one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. Marie came across as unprepared, inattentive, and completely unconcerned with client satisfaction. DO NOT BOOK WITH MARIE KAZARIAN!

She took the time to understand exactly what I wanted, made me feel super comfortable and reassured throughout the whole process, made suggestions based on my best interest long-term, and overall, exceeded my expectations. Fast forward to yesterday, I saw Kristin again to bleach and color my hair for the first time. She was thorough in explaining the process and realistic about maintenance/results, while still taking the time and putting in the effort to achieve the result I was hoping for. It turned out even better than I imagined, and my hair still feels so healthy. On top of all of this, she's been well aware that I've developed moderate to severe eczema over the past year, and ensures that my scalp health is also a high priority by checking in regularly throughout the process. TLDR: Kristin is genuinely so sweet, thoughtful, and caring, and it shows in her work. V grateful for her!! Wish I could gatekeep, but I can't keep her in the dark anymore bc she deserves all the recognition and more

Finding the salon was easy and there was parking right out front, which made it even better. I stay in South Pasadena on weekends at my boyfriend's house, so I decided to give it a try. EJ was incredibly kind and welcoming. I arrived a few minutes early while he was finishing with another client, and he saw me right at my appointment time. He also offered drinks and snacks, which I really appreciated because I definitely needed the caffeine boost that day. He washed my hair and gave me the trim I desperately needed, removing all my split ends while still keeping my hair long just like I asked. I'm always nervous about losing too much length, but he really listened and delivered exactly what I wanted. His station was also very cute and calming, with plants around the mirror and a dream catcher. I deal with anxiety, so I really appreciated his relaxing energy during the appointment. I usually get my trims done in Beverly Hills with my longtime stylist, and I was pleasantly surprised that the price here was about the same -- $120, which is pretty standard for a good trim in Beverly Hills as well. Since I happened to be in the area, I thought "why not?" and I'm really glad I did because it turned out to be such a pleasant experience.
