He's kind with lots of convo, listened to my style goals, spent a good amount of time talking through what I wanted (referencing my photos) and I ended up with a killer hair cut and color. Leading up to my appointment - he was responsive over text, flexible about what services I needed, and he's highly sought with a 5wk booking out. The studio itself is also very cool with brick walls, airy space, high windows for beautiful natural lighting and views, good playlists, and friendly stylists at every chair. I'm an educator. It's very rare that I have my hair colored at a salon. Usually very very expensive and the color doesn't come out correct. I found Wolfgang from Groupon. Then did my research on Yelp. Amazing reviews. I bought the Groupon. Today I went to see Wolfgang. I showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted. And he did it!! Incredible !!! I booked an appointment with Wolfgang and I have no regrets. This was my 2nd visit. I came here via Groupon the first time & enjoyed my first visit a lot. I did the same thing this time: haircut, partial highlights (I did lowlight in my last visit), and shampoo. Wolfgang was being extremely patient and professional. My highlights went above and beyond my expectations. I just LOVE that my highlights consist 3 different colors... During my visit today, there were only two hair stylists there: Wolfgang and someone else, so practicing social distance is not a problem at the salon. Everyone else wear mask as well. They have a thermometer but my temperature wasn't taken. I parked my car on the street thinking that my hairdo would be done within 2 hours and I almost got a parking ticket as a result. I showed him pictures of what I wanted and he also told me what he thought would look good on me. He also "re-purposed" the hair color I already had; my hair was slightly bleached and had grown out a lot over the year and he decided to add in reddish/chocolate brown highlights and blend it to the light colored parts I already had at the bottom. I have been getting highlights for a couple of years now, but have always gone to different stylists because I hadn't found one that truly matched what I wanted. This salon is a gem hidden in Altadena drive in Pasadena. I was surprised to discover it was so close to my home when I found it on Groupon (especially since Google maps says it doesn't exist- Google says it's permanently closed, it's not!). Wolfgang was my stylist. I booked an appointment for myself to get a cut and condition, and for my sister to get a cut, color, and conditioning. We came in for our appointment and were greeted instantly. The salon was busy for it's small size, but that did not change the personalized treatment my sister and I received. My haircut turned out amazing, I asked for short layers and bangs. I had a picture that showed a style sort of like I wanted but Wolfgang listened to the things I wanted different and came out with an amazing style that I love and think I'll keep for a while. The conditioning treatment made my hair soft and shiny and I'm feeling very beautiful with this new style. It was just the pick me up I needed. I was also impressed that although he was busy, he gave me such care. He styled my hair in a beautiful way and I looked great for my anniversary dinner! My sister's hair also came out great. Her color was just what she wanted and so beautiful. Wolfgang used care to correct some previous color fade and damage and got her hair looking amazing! He cut it perfectly too, giving her the banging bangs she was daring to try out and finding a perfect style for her that suited her face. We were both beyond pleased with how great he made us look and feel. He also is a wonderful conversationalist, and it was hard to believe how well he worked with us with as busy as the salon got. Janice saved my hair. It was ruined. My hair was burn. Several months prior. I went to a Noemi Family Hair Design salon in Alhambra. I told in Noemi in English&Spanish. Do not dye my hair black!! I noticed she was preparing the dye behind a wall. I walked over to see and she blocked me. My hair turned out chola black. I went 2 more salons in Alhambra no one could not dye my hair correctly. So, similar to others, I found the salon and Wolfgang through Groupon and Yelp with high ratings. So why not? Hair will grow back and Wolfgang had such high ratings and favorable reviews. Scheduling an appointment was easy-peasy. I gave Wolfgang a few dates and times and he was able to accommodate to my schedule. I came in on Saturday morning, and arrived earlier to scope out the parking situation. There are plenty of street parking, and if you're lucky, there may be a space in the driveway, but I ended up nearby. I purchased the Groupon for a haircut, deep conditioning (much needed), and either highlights or a single process. My mane was in desperate need of some TLC - it's been a while since I've had a hair cut, and for some reason, it's resembling a tumbleweed and a comb/brush would just get stuck. Wolfgang is a hoot! He's hilarious and can definitely chat about any random statement/comments. He definitely listens to you and what your lifestyle is, as well as what you want in your hair, as well as suggestions. I was recovering from a bad haircut and needless to say I was wary of trying a new place. I found this spot on Groupon and had fantastic reviews so I tried it. Wolfgang was absolutely amazing. Best hair cut I've had in a long time. Salon is in a great space. Parking can be challenging because there are other business around as well but who cares! It's worth it. Wolfgang took the time to ask what I needed, washed my hair, trimmed the length and then dried most of it to cut the layers because my hair is curly and he want to be accurate with the length of the layers. This is my 2nd time coming to this salon to see Bruce. The first time I got basic cut (just the split ends), low lights and a deep conditioning treatment. I was happy with the results so I decided to come back for a second time. This time I wanted something more extreme, I decided on an A-line cut. I liked that Bruce talked me thru the process. A haircut can be a bit scary so I found it comforting to know what he was doing. I really liked the deep conditioning treatment that was done, right now my hair feels silky smooth. The reason I didn't give Bruce a 5 is because the A line angle on the cut was not as bold as I was visualizing in my head and the color is not as intense. I think I need to be more descriptive with my preference, but hey it's only hair. Also, I did not like the fact that he was so booked back to back. Apparently as a new customer you are supposed to know how they run their business. I tried calling a number of times only to get a generic text "Can't talk, text me." and when I finally did get a response - I had to go back and forth several times to finally get a time that worked. (all this via text) and on the day before I texted to remind him about our 9am appointment only to be told that the appointment wasn't confirmed. Any business that plays Motown gets major respect points from me. Bruce was playing Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, and EWF (Earth, Wind & Fire) when I arrived. The salon is super chic and clean. Before my cut, my hair was washed and conditioned by Bruce's assistant. I'm terrible at choosing hair styles, so I told Bruce to choose something for me. He cut off about 5 inches and gave me some layers. My new layers are fun and makes my hair look very voluminous. I think I found my new stylist!! Thank you Fabian for the fresh cut today! I don't get my hair cut often but I decided to chop about 5-6 inches off today and I'm lovinnnn' it. Like most people, I usually go through that initial remorse where you miss your long hair but I can happily say no regrets this time around! I found Bruce through Groupon, and have been to him three times. He did an amazing job the first time and I even took a friend back with me the second time. But the second time he seemed to be in a rush and the coloring didn't come out very well and was a bit choppy. The reason why I'm writing this review is because of the third time I came in. He has been so gracious with the prices that he had charged me and as a struggling grad student I was so grateful for that, however the last time I came in, I had told him upfront that I could only afford $75/80, and I wanted to pay him fairly so whatever he could do for that amount I would take and would just come back if what I wanted to get done would cost more. He said okay, but then by the end, he ended up charging me $150 by saying that he charged me $75 twice. I didn't know what to say at the time, but texted him later about it, he was very defensive, and didn't even respond when I asked him what he thought I meant when I said I couldn't afford more than $80. It felt as though he was just trying to get my money and didn't care to see me anymore because he got his $150. So good haircuts, not the best with coloring at times, and could improve on taking care of his customers a little better by being better at communicating and being more clear about costs instead of just trying to get there money. read more

My first mistake was buying a groupon for a hair service, but now I have learned that you get what you pay for. I made an appointment with Bruce and he had about 3 customers there at the same time as me so we were all getting cut, dyed and styled and he was going back and forth to each customer. Kind of annoying, but I guess that's how he can make more money instead of just 1 customer at a time. I pointed out a red color that I wanted on his hair sample book and told him I wanted a few inches off. He tells me he has to bleach my hair and that it'll cost extra which I okay'd. I had red several times in the past so I knew the red I chose was attainable. So he bleaches my hair bleach blonde!! I was shocked because I had never seen it THAT blonde before, but that wasn't the end result so he continued dying my hair and the result was ORANGE!!! Not red, it was orange. I hated it. I don't like confrontation, but I told him that is not the color I wanted. He took out the sample book and said it looked just like it, but it did not. He said oh it'll look the right color in the sun. So I said okay let's go outside and check it out. My hair was even more orange outside. I told him I hated it and didn't want to go home like that. He said he would have to charge me for another dye job to correct it. At that point I wanted anything but the orange. He dyed my hair again and it turned out slightly less orange and figured I was at a loss. I figured I would just stop by CVS and get a box dye to dye my hair back to dark brown. When he trimmed it he trimmed it a lot shorter than I had wanted. My hair was past my butt and he trimmed up just past my shoulders. A few days later I looked up his license to see if he was even licensed. He wasn't. His cosmetology license was suspended. I contacted the board, and since my visit the board sent me a letter saying he got his license reinstated. The lessons I learned were to check if the person you are going to is licensed and not to look for deals with hairstyles. read more

Due to a miscommunication (I thought I said 10:30 am when scheduling but Wolfgang heard 10 am...oops!), when I arrived at the salon, Wolfgang wasn't sure if he would be able to fit me in. Not only did he suggest lowlights due to being less maintenance which is exactly what I wanted. (I know absolutely nothing about hair). I came here to get my hair done by Bruce Law back in early March more than four months ago from a Groupon deal. I was skeptical at first since I saw so many bad reviews about him in particular on Yelp. I was greeted kindly by Bruce when I walked in for my appointment and waited for about 5 minutes while he finished up one of his clients. I wanted full highlights, but I wasn't sure exactly what color since I just wanted some color to my hair, but nothing too drastic. He gave me ash brown highlights that he felt would complement my skin tone and they still look really good! I also wanted to cut my hair significantly shorter, and again, I wasn't sure what style I wanted, and he went for the perfect cut (I think it's a lob). Four months since then, it has grown out beautifully! The deep conditioning treatment that came along with the Groupon was very relaxing. All in all, it was a fantastic deal. BEWARE OF BRUCE LAW AND DO NOT let him service you (unless you would like potential frustration and agitations to go along with your service)!! Should have listen to the many previous yelper who had negative review on this man (but no! I thought maybe he was having an off-day and maybe this time it will be ok). Decided to give him a chance and end up wasting a lot of my time, energy, and received lots of unwanted agitations/stress. I would say this man should not be doing customer service since he thinks he knows all and has no patience to communicate with new customer about what they want to do with their hair. I went this past Saturday and to begin with, he was almost 20 mins late for my appointment where I was left waiting in a windy open place with my wet hair which I can honestly said was not a good hair wash (The assistant girl basically did not really wash my hair, just getting it all wet and barely massage or rinse my hair). When it was my turn he asked me what can he do for me (without a smile) and so I provided him with sample print out of what I want for my haircut and coloring. After he heard what I like to have my hair done, he explain without any smiles/ enthusiasm (again) that what I want to be done is not included in the Groupon service and that he does not do that. I started to get very agitated of him since the service had started out bad already. I told him the pictures of the girl I provided had highlights and those are the ones I would like to have done since I did get full highlight service and not just partial. He got more serious and said that those are not highlights and some of those are low lights and he would need to charge more or he will not do them. Then his attitude got worse and started to stare at me like he would like to eat me up (not in a good way). I got so mad that I stared him right back and after a short while he mentioned he refuses service. WHAT KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THIS?? I used to be in service industry and you DO NOT EVER refuse service, but instead you ALWAYS try to communicate with customers, defuse any possible misunderstanding in a calm and FRIENDLY manner without the DEADTH STARES! (I know this because I have many years of customer service experiences and had won secret shopper award for the best customer service provided to a secret shopper) Later from other staffs I heard that he has many years of experiences and is somewhat lacking of customer service manners. DO YOU THINK SO??? This man should be in the military since he's not flexible nor does he communicate well with customers (it is not just my experience, see other customers below that he has problem communicate with as well). Some customer (below comment) mentioned that many customers who complaints bring in Groupon because they are bullies and they want service for free or next to nothing. That is the incorrect since Bruce is the one that offered the groupon service to customers for the set price. If he did not offer, customers most likely would not have known to come and try his service. I paid for the offer of full service highlights & wash and I would accept no less service (neither should any other customers). Many groupon user (who are focus on the value, price paid vs. service/goods they received) yelp based on their experience and if they experienced unsatisfactory service they have the right to publicize their comments. Im seriously disappointed in my haircut from Bruce. I read the other reviews and was hopeful. I wasn't even going to write a review but each time I see my hair its a reminder that I paid for a terrible haircut, which really irks me. My haircut looked nothing like the picture I showed him. I showed him a picture saying this is how I want the back. It did not come out like that. He then cut my hair fast without asking to see how I wanted each section. Please don't just assume Bruce, short haircuts are not the same as long haircuts, the shape is way more varied with short haircuts. I asked him not to cut any hair in the front of my ear, he did anyway, without paying attention. (What the hell Bruce?) He was just snipping through really fast without being careful to my preferences..The hair came out really lopsided and now I have to grow my hair out.
