I have been going to get my haircut from Aryga since 2016 and never have I been disappointed or unhappy with any haircut she's given me. In fact, my family and friends usually rave about it, that my sister now makes the drive to her too when possible. In 2020, I moved to NorCal and I STILL make the drive/time to visit Aryga at Dream Cuts. Yeah, that's right. I drive 10 hours in total to make sure she cuts my hair. I recently made the choice to let someone else cut my hair and it was the worst mistake of my life so now I'm going back to let Aryga fix my hair. (Sorry, I should've waited Aryga.) In my opinion, hair cutting is personal and intimate. Aryga makes you feel listened to, follows your exact instructions, checks in with you, and checks again because she doesn't want you to be unhappy. It was my first time at this salon and I'm really happy I went. I booked the appointment online and the location is very clean with great AC for this summer heat. I loved the hair stylist! She's the absolute sweetest. She's very knowledgeable and experienced. We discussed what type of haircut would look flattering for me and for my hair texture. (I have long thick curly hair). I wanted so badly for this to work out. Decent hair for budget costs. Unfortunately, that saying of, "You get what you pay for," is a long time saying for a reason. I should have paid better attention to the negative reviews. The bottom line is customer service. I've had a situation where the person who answered the phone assumed I was someone who called previously, snapped at me, and then hung up on me. I should have taken that as a red flag but I gave them another chance when the owner apologized but she was not surprised that that happened with no further action taken towards her employees. So I met with the owner to have my hair colored. I made it clear that I had rebonding done on my hair (permanent straightening - so that your hair looks flat ironed) two weeks before, which I do yearly. I have had my hair colored elsewhere with no issues for years. She did a "test" strand in the back middle of my hair to which she said there were no issues. She even said we could go a number higher on the color chart. It was a dark color so there was so bleaching or lightening involved. Unfortunately, when I got home that night, my hair went into shock. It was frizzy especially in the front areas by my face (see photo). When I went back she offered me a conditioning. But she wanted to charge me for it. I informed her that I didn't think I should have to pay for more treatment to fix my hair from my being damaged at her salon. She agreed, however, the conditioning didn't change the condition of my hair. I explained how I felt. That if I damaged my customer's hair I would give them a refund or even a deep discount for that specific service. Especially that the customer has to go back and pay full price to get the rebonding to be done again, a year earlier then planned. She said she disagreed. She said that coloring was a risk "I" took and that the conditioning should be enough. She also stated that if she gave a refund to all her customers that wanted a refund from not liking their hair, she would be out of business. In front of others in the salon, she spoke down to me about her paying someone else to fix my hair when clearly it was about refunding me for damaging my hair. Knowing: - we don't have similar views on customer service or keeping repeat business - along with her statement that customers are often dissatisfied with their hair here that if she gave refunds, she would be out of business - her constant need to make me feel like it was, "my fault" my hair was damaged by her coloring - the way I was treated instead of correcting the wrong, I felt it was important to share with the community, even if it helps one person, who may also be seeking such services. Dream Cuts is open and is the only place I will go for a haircut. After numerous failed cuts from other salons, I discovered Aryga. She actually listened to what I wanted and did her best to ensure that I got it. After going almost 8 months without a decent cut during the pandemic, she has been restoring my hair to a healthy state. She understands compromising damage and the desire for longer locks. She works with me and my hair to help me feel beautiful. She's currently by appointment only to ensure safety. Masks are worn throughout and she follows all the guidance for COVID-19 safety. Went here cus it was affordable and received a terrible haircut. I thought I could style it so it wouldn't look so bad but that didn't happen. No matter what i did I couldn't hide the unevenness. All I wanted was a normal haircut to my shoulders. Not a Bob, not super layered, just a Normal cut. But I didn't get anything of the sort. She cut it to where it was short in the front and long in the back. That's not what I wanted. It looked like an uneven bowl haircut. It looked ridiculous. Time passed and i got super busy with work but I still couldn't get used to my bad haircut. Even my boss said he could tell it was uneven:( I decided to tell her that I wasn't happy which I though was 3-4 weeks later. But she had informed me that it had been 6 weeks since she cut my hair. Geez, didn't think that much time flew by. Silly me for going back so late but like I said I was super busy. So i asked her if she could fix it. obviously not for free cus I waited so long, but maybe for a discount? She said since I waited 6 weeks to tell her, I would have to pay full price. I thought, 'fair enough. I doubt she'll mess it up this time. She just has to even it out. How hard can that be?' Ha! Boy was I wrong. Went back a second time only to have just as bad of a haircut! You get what you pay for so honestly, don't bother. Clearly the woman who cut my hair had no idea how to do layers. The front of my hair looks great but the back?! You can even see in the photo that the layers are non existent in the front. I didn't even realize until I got home and my family told me about it. I've been going to this barber for about a year now and I have only had good experiences. Not sure about these 1-star reviews because the owner and her other staff are very nice and do a great job each time. I've tried different barbers in the Pasadena area since I've moved here, but none come to close to the quality that I've gotten from this place. I am also pretty damn picky with my haircut, but Dreamcuts manages to deliver each time. Quick tip for picky people: Save a picture of yourself after your "perfect cut" in different angles, and show your barber. That would save you and your barber a lot of time and energy. Ever since I moved to the Pasadena area a couple of years ago, I was in search of a new barber. When it comes to barbers in my life, I have had 2 or 3 that I went to consistently, based on where I lived. Aryga is one of those three. There are many things that I like about her haircuts: 1. She takes her time with each cut 2. She remembers the hair length clips needed for all of her customers 3. Ensures that the customer is satisfied. As a bonus, she is friendly enough that you could take about almost any subject and it will turn into a good conversation. I've been in dire need of a haircut for about six months now, and I was hesitant about going to any random salon since I have had horrifying experiences before and, to top it off, my hair grows SUPER slow. Looking around in Pasadena, I saw some salons that looks promising, but they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for a simple color and cut. I stumble across the Yelp page for Dream Cuts and I call to set up and appointment after being quoted such a reasonable price. Aryga was absolutely wonderful!! She took her time to assess the damage on my hair and she was able to trim all the dead hair away and leave some length for me. She was a pleasure to have do my hair and I can't wait to come back and see her in the future. Took me in as a last cut of the day, which I was appreciative of since I was going to be going out the day after but.... not a great job at all! I could definitely toss this up to the fact that I've never worked with her before but she did not seem to have the "edge" that some really good barber/stylists have. I loved Dream Cuts!! I really needed a hair cut BAD during this pandemic. I haven't cut my hair in a little over a year. I was losing so much hair as my hair was dead and was crying for at least a trim b a d. I called a few places but no one was really open during this time (completely understandable). However, I called Dream Cuts and Aryga was able to schedule my friend and I at 6 and 6:30 pm. She's cutting hair outside (due to regulations) and is appointment only. I definitely recommend her. She takes her time and explains everything pros/cons of the style, color, and cut you want. We talked about possibly coming back for color and she talked us through that. She was super sweet and professional. I will definitely be back. I saw the inside of the salon from the door as I was getting cut it looks very nice, neat, and organized. Aryga cares. It's in the little things she does. At other places, I'll get a one-size-fits-all treatment of my hair regardless of my head shape and hair type... and I'm treated accordingly. That's not Aryga. She's not there to nickel-and-dime anyone on the cut or the products-- she's genuinely there to help you get what you want or help you find a style you can pull off. Came here on a Saturday morning and walked in without an appointment. As soon as I walked in Aryga greeted me and asked me to have a seat and they'll get to me shortly. First impression of the shop was that it was clean and only two people working on hair. I saw Aryga was cutting a boy's hair and took her time and precision to make sure the haircut she was giving met the satisfaction of the boy and his father who was watching her like a hawk. When she was done cutting the boy's hair she told me to wait a minute, ran to the back of the shop to grab a broom to sweep up all of the boy's hair on the floor before asking me to sit at her chair, which I thought was nice and thoughtful of her. After I sat down she asked me what I'd like for my haircut and i described it to her, but half way through the haircut I realized the length I requested on the side of my hair was a bit long and asked if it was too late to make it shorter, without hesitation she said "sure, no problem." Like the haircut she gave to the boy ahead of me, she also took her time and precision to make sure I had a good haircut. Was in and out of the shop within 30 minutes. I feel bad writing this review because I really like the owner of the salon and my first cut experience was amazing. I loved my layers. However, this time, my hair was a disaster. I didn't realize it until it dried later, but the layers were uneven and didn't match on both sides. And the layers which were done were very choppy. Worst haircut I've EVER gotten in my 23 years I been alive. First the lady is getting frustrated with me explaining what cut I want. My previous barber and I made it work out before I moved out of the area. Secondly, right before she cuts my hair, she tells the person who just entered it won't be long until it's his turn. What the hell?? Thirdly, YES the haircut was short. It only last ten minutes on what I believe is not a basic haircut I requested. Fourth and finally, she did not do anything I requested with my cut. In basic terms, I asked for a fade with the sides and back blended, and a texturization on the top. I felt she just stuck her scissors and razor randomly where she felt like. I feel super ripped off for how much I paid and what I got. To comments 2,3, and 4, the haircut was absolutely rushed and the quality shows. And she had the audacity to say her haircut was good when I asked for an adjustment on the back. Never coming back here again. read more
