Best barber in town, he is the only barber that I've been to in the past 5 years that knows how to cut my hair the way I want. He cuts my hair with a blade, most barbers do not have the skill to do that. He is very kind and friendly as well. Won't be going anywhere else for my haircut. read more

Wonderful job! Phillip is so nice and polite. Good conversation and professional. I always call the same day I need to come in and he has been flexible to accommodate me so far. Thank you! read more

Philip gives a great cut for an affordable price. Shop is no-frills and located on Washington Boulevard. I can usually park right in front of the shop. read more

Butchered the back of my hair in an act of passive aggression. Phillip seemed very nice at first. He asked if I was a soccer player and we had a quick chat about sports and how he doesn't play any longer because of his age. After the scissor cut he had me examine the back of my head to which I said I would like it shorter because I wanted a cleaner look around the edges. He said, "so a taper?" And I said sure. He left the hair at the back of head uneven as if he just quickly tapered the middle and didn't touch the edges. There are now patches at the sides behind my ears that is longer and he just completely butchered the hair at the back of my head. I feel as though this was done in an act of passive aggression. He was bothered by me not first asking for the taper before wasting his time. Mind you I had hair up to my shoulders so I wasn't too sure of what exactly I wanted. I now have to pay to get it fixed by someone else because I don't trust he wouldn't commit the same act once again. read more

One of the best barbers I've ever been to! He is one of the few remaining old-school barbers that knows what he's doing. Loved the old school vibe. I am a middle-aged man, balding, my hair was looking like a disaster. After I visited him, I'm looking like a star, the level of confidence he gave me after that haircut was unmeasurable. The man also knew so much history and was very kind. I wish I lived in Pasadena because I would go to this man every week. Oh, and it is the most affordable haircut you will get in Los Angeles. The price to quality ratio is out of control. read more

Excellent hair cut, very professional. I was able to get a quick appointment too. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

$30 + tip for a woman's long layers haircut in pricey pasadena! It is very reasonable. Don't expect a hair wash or a blowdry, it's a bare bones salon, with no frills but Phillip is an awesome human! No wait, this man has his schedule down to a science he is really busy. And it's Cash ONLY so be prepared. No Venmo, Zelle, nada! Although I did see him accepting a check from a Senior customer. He always lets me use a blowdryer on my own, just so I leave with dry not frizzy hair, so for me this place works! Simple, efficient and effective. Parking immediately in front on Washington or on the side lot accessible via the alley next to Mission liquor. read more

I believe the guy name is Jose. He fixed my hair after getting cut by another hairstylist from another salon. I walked right in shortly after they had opened. He took me in right away. Amazing cut Jose!! read more

Phillip is a great guy. Very nice and great conversation. The salon is run by him and he is the only hairdresser. He has different hours I think it's Tuesday to Friday. He assured me that my hair was great and if it wasn't then he would fix it. He charged me for highlights with long hair and a cut at 120. Which is pretty reasonable. I highly recommend him. read more

Michel's Salon De Coiffure - Before and after - Hair Stylists Near Me - Pasadena, California

The reviews are all correct. Phillip does a great job for a great price. I used to go to Super Cuts and the one guy I liked left. Then of course they refused to give you the information so I got on Yelp and found Michel's Salon by accident. Don't worry when you walk in it is not fancy at all. I was thinking to myself I hope the reviews were right!?!?! I almost missed the place driving by actually. I was nervous but I love my haircut! I have very straight hair and I have had stylist tell me its the toughest hair they have cut so that should tell you something. Everyone do Phillip a favor and get on here to write him a review. He explained he is not Internet savvy but he appreciates the business! Don't forget to bring cash everyone! Thank you Phillip! read more

Seeing the reviews just makes me realize how people is used to average haircuts and attention to their hair. He told me he didn't have the equipment to do the haircut I wanted but since I was in a rush for an event the same day I had no other option, he just accept cash, he doesn't take more than 30min on a men haircut. Definitely, not coming back if you want something above the average haircut.. read more

Philip is a complete gentleman with a really good pair of hands! Just be sure to make an appointment. That's a good sign, that he's always busy! I read his reviews & I can agree with them. He's earned his stars. The first time I dropped by, he was willing to stay open late for me as he was booked up! I declined as I felt it was a lot to ask for my very first cut with him. The next time I called in, he actually worked me in on his day off! He was quick, but spent the time that I required. He gave a good cut for a very reasonable price. He offers a good value, a good cut & he's a great guy. BTW, I've always found street parking adjacent to his spot. read more

The owner/hairstylist is a wonderful and kind person. He has decades of experience and is very inexpensive. A true hole-in-the-wall of barbers. I've been getting my haircut from him for over 10 years and only have positive experiences. tip: if you need a hair cut, call to make an appointment. plenty of free street parking too. read more

This is a late overdue review. I made an appointment with Michel for haircut. Simple A line, nth fancy. I told him I am contemplating on dying my hair to lighten (maybe blonde highlight) up for the summer, and he suggested me not to do it because I have really thin hair and might cause damages. P.S. I have my asian hair dyed (from black to brown to blonde to magenta) before and I understand his good intention. As a hair stylist, he is not just after ur money, he take pride in his work and care about ur hair healthiness. read more

I called before going in to the salon. He was extremely helpful and did exactly what I wanted for a haircut. The price was fifteen dollars and I gave him five dollar tip. I will be a regular here. read more

Easy peasy. Philip is cool. Most of the previous reviews are pretty on target: unassuming place, simple, gets the job done. Philip is a nice gentleman with easy conversation. You can tell he knows his craft. I showed him a picture of what I want and he did it. He knew what I wanted and he was able to even tell what my previous stylist had cut my hair. He is knowlwdeable. I'm glad i tried him, and i look forward to trying other styles. read more

It is ok, The hair master is polite and nice. The price for haircut is ok too. I was little bit concerned about hygiene, clean side of the salon. the salon looks like it needs some renovation and big cleaning read more

I was in town to propose to my gf a few weeks ago, and I needed a nice affordable haircut (spent a pretty penny on that rock), so I yelped local barbers, and Michel's came up as one of the few that was open at 9 on a Saturday morning. I called him, he said come in right now, and in 15 minutes I was sitting in his chair. I've been cutting my own hair all my life, but on this day, that just would not do, and I told him so. He did a great job, my gf said it was perfect, and I am now an engaged man. Thank you! read more

Fellas, if you want a no nonsense men's haircut - fashionable but not metrosexual - and not clipped up like some barbershop, Michel's is the place for you. He's a super nice guy, listened and got me out of there with a sharp looking haircut so i could go to a job interview looking fresh. The price was very good, there is easy free street parking and I got in and out of there without a fuss. If you found this review helpful, please click USEFUL! I appreciate it! read more

Philipe is very nice and gave me a haircut even though it was his day off! I had no idea and just decided to pop in to see if he was open on a Sunday and he didn't tell me until the end that he had just stopped by the shop to clean up a little and prepare for Monday. He didn't make me feel weird about it though and actually thanked me for coming in because his wife had been called in to work and he didn't know what he was going to do with his afternoon. The haircut was great and he really talked with me about my hair type and answered all my questions about how to keep it healthy. Even after I told him I didn't want a blowdry for financial reasons, he offered to dry my hair for free so he could show me a technique to use to help prevent my fried split-ends. Basically, this man GETS customer service. He made me feel very important and like he was invested in the well-being of my hair. I could tell he really loves his job and its not just about getting customers in and out so he can get paid. I HIGHLY recommend. read more

Lebanese guy working there & he's the sweetest, nicest person ever. he does make you feel like you're GUEST, rather just a customer. i'd go back & even visit him if i pass through, and today was my first time experiencing it. In terms of haircut..the reviews were right. He is a barber, therefore you need to let him know exactly what you want. if you want a lot of layers, you'll have to ask him for it..maybe bringing in a picture will help. if you're just trying to trim your hair for a healthier looking hair, he's your guy. it's a simple salon, nothing too fancy or too many magazines of hair laying around. so come in knowing what you want, and let him know exactly. very inexpensive...$15 for a haircut. read more

I walked in and since he was booked, I got an appointment for the next day, which was today. I showed him a picture of how I wanted to cut my hair. The last time I've been to a salon was years ago because I don't trust anyone cutting my hair and they always mess up on my cut. However, Michel is so freaken amazing. He takes his time, really asks you how you want it and make sure it turns out right, and asks for your opinion at the end before doing the final touch. I love my hair, I had long hair and decided to get a slight A cut/bob and no regrets. I walked out feeling super happy and he's so sweet! Definitely the only salon I'm going to from now on. And 15$ for a great cut! That's an awesome deal, but do leave tips guys. He's amazing and he deserves it. Happy hair, happy girl. (: read more

I needed a new look but was weary of my old Stylist. The last cut wasn't great and was $15 more than before $80.00!!!) So I did a Yelp Search and Found Michels. It's only a few blocks from my house, so I stopped in yesterday and met Phillip. We made an appointment for today. I am delighted. He listened, looked at my pictures, explained everything he was doing. I've never had a hairstylist have me sit in a tall chair to cut the bottoms of my long hair so it was straight. He did all the little things I expect. Lots Of tiny texturing on the ends. I just love my new deep bangs and long bob layers. This may be one of the best hair cuts I've ever had. And OMG. For $17.00. Please take a $20. read more

My advice is: Pass by this unfancy looking store that looks like a regular barber shop. Go to the fancy schmancy place instead! Ok, I guess that would be a bit mean. I am hesitant to write a positive review, because I am quite content with Phillip giving haircuts to just the grannies and myself. But I have to be honest: Phillip has given me my best haircuts, and has never charged me more than 14 bucks. I have gone to really expensive places that cut too little, too much, or just not what I asked for. I ask Phillip for simple layers and shoulder length hair, that's exactly what I get. I always leave happy. Plus I get to practice some Arabic while I'm there. He is a really, really nice man, and a great hair stylist. I have never gone for color, so I can't comment on that, but the guy knows what he's doing. Ok, now don't all flood the store and cause the prices to rise on me, y'hear?! read more

I came to Michel's because I was in desperate need of a haircut, but I did not want to drive all the way back to Tustin to get it cut. Michel's was cheap, had a good reviews, and is walking distance from home. Perfect for a guy who every summer buzz's his hair off. From the outside, and inside, this place does not look like much. This is not a decked out salon, or an old school barber shop. This is a place where you come, get your haircut, then go about your day. At first I was a bit skeptical, and felt a little apprehensive. Many reviewers comment on that you need to say what you want, and that is very true. I am used to having my hair stylest just have total control. Here though I had to provide exact details on what I wanted. The entire proces took 10ish minutes, cost me $13, and was exactly what I wanted. I was very happy with the end product. If you know what you want, you don't want to pay out the nose, and want the job done fast, this is the place for you. read more

Hes very responsive to scheduling a haircut. I have to travel alot for work, and he is easy to schedule and always trys his best to fit me in. I'm very happy with the quality of the haricut. This is a "no frills" type of place, so dont expect a hot towel, shampoo, etc, however, for me the haricut has been very good and the price is great. Cash only. FYI. read more

When I had my hair cut initially super short-- I needed to find a barber who was 1) skilled, 2) friendly, and 3) affordable. Phillip at Michel's is ALL these three qualities and more. I can always rely on him to give me an amazing haircut. Lucky for him, my hair grows super quickly, so he's got a client for life ;) read more

I found Phillip's barber shop (grandly called a salon de coiffure!) on Yelp and I was not disappointed when I went for a haircut there for the first time. Phillip is efficient, friendly, and a good barber. I told him I hated hair falling on my ears and he cut my hair a little shorter just above the ears, which is exactly what I wanted. Another little pet peeve of mine: I hate it when they pull my hair up to cut it. I'm glad to report that Phillip does not do that. I'm sure to return. read more

This is hands down the best value haircut I've ever gotten in the greater Pasadena and Eagle Rock areas, and that includes the fancy-schmancy places, of which there are too many and which, in my experience, have been hit or miss. One of the most important aspects of a great restaurant or service is *consistently* good work, and I return to this barber shop because of the consistently good work. As for Alex G's 5/20/16 one-star review -- if only there were a way to thumbs down a review. So this reviewer is one-starring the fact that he didn't get his way? This is the kind of reviewer who gives a book one star on Amazon because it was shipped late. Please, whine in the privacy of your own head. read more

I have been coming to this place for over a year now. Philip is a great guy. The price is awesome - the best value haircut you could get around Pasadena. I always enjoy my chat with Philip during my visit. Important Tips: a) Book and appointment and be on time - you will be out within few minutes. b) He accepts only cash or checks. read more

Loved the price Loved the results Loved the service It's a $13, no nonsense haircut. Never a wait and the place feels kind of like a barber shop, but this guy knows how to cut hair. I enjoy chatting with Philip as he's a really nice fella. read more

Its hard to find a good stylist, let alone one under $80 in the LA area. I took a chance after reading yelp and I was not disappointed! Some tips: it seems Thursday-Saturday book up fast so book in advance, he only takes cash or personal checks, and the prices are old school mean what you say (ex: a woman's cut includes a shampoo but no styling, though he will dry your hair of course). Most services are under $20, though coloring and long hair run higher. I told Michel I was concerned one side of my hair was growing longer than the other. I know it does this because I've seen it in action. But the last few cheapy places I tried took a quick look, said nah, and got down to cutting. Michel studied my hair for a moment, then declared it was the right that grows longer (he is correct). I told him I like my layers and mostly just want to maintain and encourage (even) growth. He understood completely. I've had other 'stylists' fly through, barely listen, and be done in 10 minutes. He took his time, clearly knew what he was doing, and I'd say it wasn't too long but not hurried either. This salon (and barber!) are clearly steeped in time. Its one of the few places I've seen offer a 'wash and set'. He has the duck bill clips and everything one would expect a really good stylist to have. The hair dryer seats have ash trays built in (obvs no smoking now, but before 1980 oh yeah) that's how retro it is! But I do not mean that as an insult. This man knows his stuff, he has the right equipment, and while its not fancy and blasting bad electronica its an amazing place. I have not gone back to any of the other places I tried as they were/are terrible. I will be going back here. I've never paid to have a 'wash and set' (or drybar if you will) but I may just do so here in the future. read more

Defiantly I recommend this Hair Salon, they were super nice with me and friendly, my hair looks like new now with my color and hair cut, and my hairstyle by Kate is beautiful, I'm feel different now. And very important, the price are very accessible and they did a great job with me, defiantly I'll back!!! read more

Michel's Salon De Coiffure - Hair Stylists Near Me - Pasadena, California

Haircut - $15 Phillipe is the head-honcho, and probably the only guy working there, so you need to make an appointment. He used to cut women's, now cuts both men and women, though more men visit. I believe he's owned the salon for two decades. For a minimalistic decor, he can be colorful storyteller. I got a basic layered haircut. You need to tell him exactly how you want it, he won't be comfortable deciding for you the inches you want cut off, the shortest layer, how short you want your bangs, etc. He's a barber. He's not a stylist. I'm not either. So I'd prefer someone who would make suggestions on how short to cut my bangs so I don't look like I have a big forehead when it's cut too short. read more

Don't let the basic, minimalistic style of this place scare you away. If you are the kind of person who just wants a simple, basic haircut for a very good price, this is the place for you. Both my husband and I have been here for haircuts and have both been happy with the results. $14 for a haircut that won't make you look like you walked out of supercuts? How can you complain?! Philip is a very nice man, is pretty flexible with his schedule, and does a nice job giving you the hair style that you want. My husband and I have only been for basic trims and simple cuts, so I can't judge him on anything more elaborate than that. read more

Excellent experience here. I had a wedding to participate in that day, and since the lady who usually cuts my hair was out of town, I had some reservation about somebody else cutting my hair, but needed to get done! Phillip (I think is his name, as stated by Arun R.) totally knew how to do it the way my regular lady does. In fact, it kind of looks better than the way I usually get it cut :p The dude is no nonsense, cuts efficiently, but really nice attitude and pleasant. Hair cut for 13 bucks, cannot beat that price. I slipped him a 20 and asked him to keep the change, I was so pleased. Hell, since he's just up the way from me, in Pasadena, he's closer to me, than the other place. I think I've found my new main barber! read more

Phillipe is really nice, and does a great haircut for 14$. I always want to compare him to the Zohan (foreign dude who cuts hair really well). I just bring an approximate picture of what I want my hair to look like and he does the rest. Couldn't be more satisfied, and I'm getting my haircuts done here as long as I live in the Pasadena Area. Like everyone else said, don't be afraid of location, it's really not bad. and it is cash only, so hit up that chase down the street before you come in read more

The best place to get a cut in the area. I hate paying so much at other places and coming home with a bad cut. I have never left with anything less than perfect here. Perfect bangs, perfect layers, and the perfect price! You won't find a luxurious setting or options so if you are looking for the extra fluff, you will need to find another place. Phillip is amazing and I hope he always has time for me with all the amazing reviews he gets. read more

Michel is great. Efficient, very affordable, adorable and an excellent hairdresser. Highly highly recommend!
