I have been a customer of Yuriy's salon for over a year now I believe and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Their professionalism, service-oriented, warmhearted services follow through and do not falter - they listen to every suggestion or creative thought you have about what you want to do to your hair. In the past, I've often had salon workers suggest (or one even went ahead with their own notion of a better haircut for me ha) their visions - but here it is focused on your own thinking and personal style. :-) For a successful business running over fifteen years and some change (on Lake Ave where rent is not cheap, nonetheless!), you're in and of here three-hours tops, and I have never seen it empty! I have been transitioning from bleached blonde hair to red, and my natural color is brown. They have worked their magic every single time and made my hair even healthier with organic sprays and up-to-date products that hold the color and finish. Updating my review because I was given a "toner" which I understood to be like semi permanent color which is fine because that is all my hair can handle. The problem is someone decided to tone my hair black. When I walked in it was dark brown with grey which I loved and now it's pitch black which I hate. I've never had black hair in my life. The other major problem is that after I washed my hair using Kerastase my scalp burned for two days and my hair was so hard and dry. Thankfully, my scalp was not red and my hair didn't break off, but I've had to keep it drenched in oil to try to get the softness back. Yuriy is a talented stylist but something went really wrong for me. Wish I'd never gone in for hair styling, now I'll never go back for any reason. read more

My hair was cut dry, thinking we would color and style after the cut, but Yuri made me look amazing after cutting it that there was no need to do anything else. I felt confident and sexy leaving it as is. He also cut years off my age. I'm close to fifty and he was able to make me look years younger without looking or feeling silly, cheap or desperate. I started started going to Yuriy 14 years ago. There was a break due to Covid and I came back a couple of months ago. The story that just happened shows why Yuriy is great and a professional who I trust. Two weeks ago Yuriy gave me a great new haircut, but I found it that I just wasn't willing to do the blow drying or styling needed to make it look as amazing as he made it look. My hair has changed over the years because I have becoming increasingly gray and so the texture is different even though I am getting it colored. So 3 or 4 days after the haircut I came back without an appointment, walked in and I explained my issues with the haircut, and Yuriy talked to me about it. He sat me down in the chair, did some spraying and styling and said -- "I know exactly what needs to be done, but I'm going to re-cut it so come back and I will not charge you." I told him I was willing to pay since it was going to take another hour of his time, but he insisted. He and the other stylist there thanked me for coming back when it was not 100% what I wanted, and they said they wish people would not be afraid to mention that. That's true professionalism. I came back a couple of days later, and he spent about 90 minutes with me and gave me an amazing haircut. My husband says that his haircuts were always great, but this one was even better than any of the ones I had gotten before. I tried to pay, he refused to accept. I told him I really value his time and expertise. I appreciate the sensitivity to my concerns, and the way I was respected. So as someone who has known Yuriy a long time, he's not resting on his laurels. And you can tell he loves what he does. Betty is still at the salon and she is terrific. Members of my family have gone to her. She also has an amazing positive attitude and has great skills. There is free parking in the building off of Hudson where the salon is located. I park on the street if I am only going to be there for an hour, but if I think it will be more than an hour hour, I park in that garage in one of the spaces assigned to the salon. This place is extremely unprofessional and not worth the $100+ for a haircut that only looks good after it's been styled. If they think you have money, they'll charge you extra or change the price without notice. The receptionist is clueless about pricing and basic services. There are ridiculous, unnecessary add-ons, and it's clear they pay to suppress bad reviews. Absolutely obsessed with my hair! I wanted to do something that was different with my hair and I was completely transformed! I want to thank the staff for their help with this process as they made everything so easy. Since I bleached my hair it took about 10 hours but I had an appointment with Leidy and she was so sweet and attentive the entire time. Vana cut my hair which left it feeling so soft and even with the dye my hair is still super soft almost 1 month after dye. Super thankful I choose this salon to dye my roots for the first time. Salon Yuriy is located on the corner of Green Street and Hudson Avenue. I came to this salon this past Wednesday morning for my 10 am appointment to get my hair cut. Salon Yuriy currently is cutting hair outside to comply with the current covid 19 safety rules/ regulations. What brought me here was a gift certificate for a free hair cut that I had won last December during South Lake Pasadena Holiday Fest. When I arrived, I saw Betty (who also ended up being the stylist that cut my hair) wiping down the seat and cleaning up the hair station where I was going to be seated. I was checked in by a friendly employee, whom took my temperature and also sprayed my hands with sanitizer. I was then lead over to a chair and Betty came out to greet me. I told her that I will be donating my hair (I do this every year) and requested that she tie my hair up in a pony tail prior to cutting it. She told me that many of her clients do this (thank you to those that do) and suggested to tie my hair in two pony tails so that when she cuts them, my hair will be even. Anyways, after she tied up my hair, she cut it and placed it in a bag. Please note that the cape used to protect my clothes from loose hair being cut is a plastic cape that is only used as a one time use and then thrown away. Because hair cutting currently is not allowed inside, you are only getting a dry hair cut (so you have to come arrived with already washed hair). With it being really hot and with my hair being so long (well prior to this hair cut), I wanted my hair to be cut short (also I like being able to donate as much hair as possible). I liked the hair cut that Betty did for me and also the way she layered my hair. Since I don't do much to my hair (even pre covid days), I went with her suggestion on the style for something easy and simple. While Betty cut my hair (she was wearing a mask and so was the employee who checked me in. Customers are required to wear a mask), we had a general conversation which was nice since it has been a while since I last had a conversation like that (well with the exception with patients at my work but even then, I don't really talk to as much as I had pre covid). With my new hair cut, I am pleased with how it came out. Overall, had a great experience and did feel safe during the entire time of my visit. If you are in need of a hair cut, consider coming here (also consider donating your hair to charity. I'm sure some of you have some real long hair that you've grown during quarantine that could go to a person in need). Prices are listed on this salon's website. Oh and please note that Salon Yuriy does has limited (free) parking. I had to ask when I made an appointment where would be the closest place to park. If I had not asked, I would have paid for parking on the street (since it didn't seem like the employee who helped me make an appointment automatically inform me of their parking spots). The parking is inside an underground parking lot just right around the corner from the salon, located on Hudson Avenue, inside Prado Parking structure. If you are heading West on Lake Ave, you will make a right on Cordova Street, then a right on Hudson Street and eventually Prado Parking structure will be on your right hand side. I took my daughter for a hair wash and blow-dry yesterday--no color consultation was requested. While her hair was being washed, the stylist asked my daughter if she wanted to change her hair color from red to brown, as I had mentioned on the phone that we may want a color change next time (just inquiring), and suggested my daughter could come back to change her base color. My daughter politely said she might consider it, but we never asked for a consultation. When the bill came, we were charged an extra $15 for a color consultation we didn't request. A $59 service ended up costing $87. I'm very disappointed with these sneaky charges and won't be returning. read more

So I never do this, but I was so impressed with the level of service at this salon that I had to post a review. I noticed that SY carries the Kerastase line, so I stopped in to find a replacement for my beloved, discontinued (!) hair cream. Not only was Narineh, the receptionist, so helpful in her attempts to help me find a similar Kerastase product, she also led me to another line she loves and suggested a product by J Beverly Hills. She was so kind and engaging, and she seemed fully present - while this should be table stakes, it's a pretty rare virtue these days. What a way to help a gal feel welcomed while she's traveling for work. Bonus? JBH's website says they're cruelty-free. If this is as good as my holy grail of hair products, I'll be super glad to have found an ethical alternative. Thank you! I've been coming to this place exclusively for hair styling appointments for the last 5 years, and for very, very good reason. Personally I go with Yuriy for my cuts, but everybody is incredible at what they do. They get to know your style, your preferences, and in the hairstyling world they understand how hair works individually for every person they serve. Yuriy specifically is the best stylist I've ever had and I've even gone months without a cut if I knew I'd be unable to go here. The environment is so relaxing, they offer you coffee or water, and the experience you get is the best. This place *is* the best. "Oh but it might be too far!" It's worth it. This review is SO insanely overdue, like, half a year overdue. I came to Salon Yuriy in May 2020, during one of the brief "breaks" of the COVID-19 shutdown. During this appointment I had my hair trimmed and layered by Allison, who was strongly recommended to me by a friend. Allison did a phenomenal job with my very long tattered and tired hair. She gave me exactly what I wanted - long, no-fuss layers that were easy to take care of, yet still look elegant and professional. She was meticulous in both cutting the layers and with blow drying, and my hair literally looked the best it had ever looked when I stepped out. Shiny, fancy, instagram-model type stuff. Even my husband was very impressed, which says a lot. Allison was pleasant and chatty as well, but not overly talkative or nosy. Again, this was in May 2020, and they seemed to follow the recommendations for indoor COVID services at that time - limited capacity, appointment ahead of time, etc. They did not use towels to dry my hair after washing, but rather used paper towels...which was odd but you gotta do what you gotta do. I wore a mask and so did my stylist the entire appointment. Unfortunately after restrictions got tighter Salon Yuriy had to shut down again, but I noticed that later that summer they reopened with outside services as well. They have a new customer discount and a referral bonus that benefitted both myself and my friend who referred me. Always a big yay for perks! There were a few snafus that got smoothed out, but worth noting. One, I had to cancel last minute due to a emergent healthcare-related work meeting, and they were going to charge me a cancellation fee. I explained that I had never been told about any sort of cancellation policy, and they were gracious enough to waive the fee and noted that the person who handled by cancellation and booking didn't really explain things properly. Secondly, they also charged me twice for my appointment. After a quick call to the salon after checking my credit card, they refunded me; however, I was a little concerned that that had happened in the first place. It is not an inexpensive salon by any means, so seeing that double charge on my card was a little disconcerting, especially since I don't always review my credit card statements as diligently as I should. All in all, will return for my next haircut, once COVID is no longer the overwhelming nuisance that it is. read more

Called and asked to get a men's haircut, and asked the receptionist if there's anyone who cuts men's hair. After being referred to "the person who cuts the most men's hair" (name I don't want to mention); I was highly disappointed with the results. Here's the breakdown: - Salon itself is great, nice customer service and very friendly, overall very clean. I went in and asked for a fade haircut and showed an image of what I wanted. - "Hairstylist" who charged a whopping $60 did not know how to use clippers, and used tools that looked like they were found in a 99 Cent store. After about 45 minutes, I ended up with an uneven haircut that looked like I came out of Fantastic Sams. To hide the mistakes, the "hairstylist" used product to further shape the sides and shape the cut. Masking mistakes is worse than owning up to your lies, don't offer something you can't deliver. Lesson here for guys: look elsewhere, it's a ripoff for what you get. read more

Just because someone looks like they don't have money you shouldn't judge them because you have no idea what their situation is. Management was awful. Found this salon walking around the neighborhood and decided it was time for a cut. I called before walking in to see if I could just walk in or if it was necessary to make an appointment. Upon calling, they took me in right away- no appointment needed :). I walked in and immediately I was escorted to a room to put on a robe. They then asked if I would like to have tea or coffee. I asked for green tea and it tasted funky, but the camomile was pretty good. They consult you first on what you would like-very warm and friendly. After you get a great head shampoo and massage, wish it lasted longer though. Then you get the cut and styling. My hairstylist was very kind and willing to take the time to explain everything. Her name was Myilan. I decided to get bangs but my hair was in my face the whole entire time so I must admit I got kind if bored and sleepy seeing how I looked like the ring girl for most of the time. Towards the styling part it was pretty rough and my head would hurt here and there but nothing out of the norm. Facility is really nice and well kept. I would recommend getting the hair mask cause it makes your head tingle with minty freshness! Of course walk in knowing that you will be spending money especially if you are buying hair products as well.
