I have never left here with a hairstyle I did not love. My stylist, Sandy, is extremely knowledgeable and will answer any question you may have. There is a waiting room in the front of the salon as well as a wall full of products to purchase. This salon offers waxing, nail services, brow tints, lash tints and lifts, and makeup services in addition to many hair services for all hair types. I sat in the waiting area for the entire duration of what was supposed to be my booking time. Eden never came out to provide the service that I was booked for. I went back to the front desk and told them that I was leaving because I had to be somewhere and that I was expecting to be done in the allotted time for my appointment. She said "oh she never came out and got you" and I said no that's why I'm leaving. Needless to say this was not a good first experience and I was very disappointed.

It became obvious that there was no curiosity regarding my style request. Therefore, I made sure to specifically, and in full detail, describe exactly what I wanted before she began with the scissors. For some unknown reason, my style request brought about laughter and mockery? However, I ignored this rudeness and hoped for the best. I did not get the best. Once my hair was dry, I was unceremoniously run out of the hair cutting area by the stylist and not asked to take a look at the outcome, presumably so she could move onto the next victim. Upon arrival back home, I closely reviewed the cut and saw that it was clearly uneven in several different areas. I pulled out my own scissors and decided that I would attempt to "fix" it. That was not working at all so I knew that I would have to book another appt somewhere else. I spent an hour the next day reviewing "reviews" of local stylists at other salons...and...by the grace of God, found an incredible stylist. BTW, the new stylist was stunned at the ineptitude of the cut that I had received the day before, noticing also that the underneath layer of my hair was actually shorter than the top layer? This story has a happy ending because I found a fantastic stylist who is actually kind and super sweet. I've gone to the one-lady-who-has-her-own-shop salons. I've gone to salons that my friends have highly recommended. But I never found "the one." As most ladies know, finding a good stylist is like finding a good mate -- it's all about the "fit." Someone who is a good stylist for one person may not be a good match for someone else. Well, I think my search might finally be over! I found this place on a total whim as I was searching online for Aveda salons to try (I like Aveda color best, even though I hadn't been to an Aveda salon in awhile). Planet Chi came up in my search, and even though it was in a town I had never heard of (Lower Burrell), I decided, why not? It's a bit of a jaunt to get here (for me anyway), somewhat far away from the city, which wasn't super convenient. But I'm willing to drive for a good stylist! The salon itself wasn't easy to find -- there are no signs from the road or anything to indicate that you're in the right place. After driving around confused for about 10 minutes, I finally had to call and have them help me find it (for the record, the salon is in the back of the plaza with the Fox's pizza...you have to drive around back, and you'll find them all the way at the end). The salon itself is fairly small (3 chairs), but has a warm, friendly vibe. Very clean and modern, but it's not in any way pretentious (nothing makes me more uncomfortable than salons that try to make me feel like I'm in some snooty salon in NYC or Paris or something....call me crazy, but I just want to feel like I'm getting my hair done at a nice place in Pittsburgh). Anyhow, so Tara was my stylist, and she was fantastic. They start off all services with a mini shoulder massage. It only lasts for a minute or two, but what a nice relaxing way to kick things off! Armed with pictures, I showed Tara how I wanted my hair to look, and she explained everything that she would need to do in order to achieve what I wanted. I had some brown hair dye in my hair (leftover from a disastrous visit to another salon a few months prior), so she basically had to do a mini corrective color to get it back to the golden blonde color I wanted. It was like a 5 step process, but she was really patient and took the time to do it right. The end result was great -- my color and cut were exactly what I had asked for. Finally, someone who listened to what I wanted and had the skills to deliver! When my hair was done, I felt like a million bucks, and I was worried that it would cost me that much considering everything she had done to my hair. But to my surprise, the price wasn't too bad. It wasn't cheap, but it was less than salons in the city charge. Considering they use Aveda color, I think the prices are fairly reasonable. In the words of the Terminator...I'll be back!

I met with Maureen one of their experts in the field and we discussed obtaining a hair topper to give me volume and coverage needed so that my thinning hair isn't as sensitive to normal cold weather. They sell both human hair and synthetics wigs, as well as toppers. Maureen was very compassionate and understanding. She helped me find a basic topper which can be color matched to my own hair and cut appropriately. I like the fact that the topper just clips to my hair and I can still care for my regular hair as I am accustomed to . With a Yelp check in you are entitled to 20% off any service which I will find helpful in the future. The salon has 3 private beauty rooms as well as a public area and another room for special treatments. The private rooms have a TV in them as well. I'm glad they have these rooms since when dealing with a delicate situation, I feel more comfortable. In the main waiting room you can get free popcorn, cold canned beverages, coffee, and water. Restrooms are located just outside the salon and you take a key if you need to go there. I liked the fact that the worked with me to find as close to the color match as my hair so that it will look natural. Learning how to care for a topper will take practice but I'm glad they helped me find one I would be happy with. Note-they do not accept checks for payment however, both cash and credit cards are acceptable. They do give you advance notice of your appts as missed appts will result in a cancellation fee. Expect to pay more here but on the flip side you are getting quality and a very knowledgable staff. Salon Iaomo is located on Greentree Rd next to the Greentree Inn. You have to enter however, by turning down Western Ave and then turn left into their parking lot. They are open Tue-Sat. When scheduling it is a good idea to book out in advance as slots are taken up fast. Looking forward to working with Maureen for my future hair needs.

I just finished my first appointment and I'm really happy with my experience here. My stylist Cathy took the time to evaluate my hair and clearly communicate how much length she was taking off and the overall style of my hair. She double checked with me again later in the appointment to make sure I was satisfied with the length and that enough of the damaged hair was removed. She took her time with the cut and style and the appointment never felt rushed. We had great conversation and she left me with a beautiful style with waves that I loved! I already booked my next appointment and will happily be returning. I would recommend this salon for clients in the Green Tree area.
