I asked for extra firm pressure before and during the massage, but we never really quite got there. No problem, though, because I was super relaxed and almost fell asleep. I packed charcuterie supplies and sparkling wine. I maybe overpacked on the utensils, because they really did have everything else there. This is a super romantic spot and feels very fancy for a special event.

We booked it on Friday and planned for a 12:00-2:50 p.m. couples massage on Saturday. We got up on Saturday and started driving, even allowing for a 30-minute buffer time. The GPS said we would arrive at 11:30 a.m. Unfortunately, our car, which we have never had problems with before, had just died on the highway. We were 30 minutes away, and it was an hour prior to 12 when the incident occurred, so I called them and let them know what was going on. I had hoped that they would be understanding and waive the cancellation fee, which is 50% of the total price. Thinking they would be understanding and flexible enough to even rebook me another day so we could still experience this and 100% pay them, because why would we not? That's not at all what happened. Management said that the masseuses still had to get paid somehow, and even after experiencing this emergency with our car, we still had to pay the 50% cancellation fee. We will absolutely not be returning, due to this company's lack of understanding and flexibility with its customers.

The "lap pool" was 84 degrees which is way too warm for actual lap swimming. The locker situation was also frustrating. Day pass guests can only use lockers on the pool deck, not in the locker room, which defeats the purpose if you come prepared with clothes to change into after showering -- there's nowhere secure or convenient to store your belongings inside the locker room itself. On top of that, the locker room wasn't very clean and robes weren't provided. The pool area is open to all hotel guests, including kids, so it never felt calm or spa-like. Between the crowd, temperature of the pool, and limited amenities, it didn't match the spa experience that was advertised. I frequent hotel spas, and this was one of the most disappointing given the price. It would feel more appropriate at about half the cost, especially since parking isn't validated for day pass guests.

This was a $325 massage and I would hope the therapists are trained well enough to keep their nails from interfering with the therapy and send you home feeling better than when you arrived. This was my second time visiting and both occasions were similar. Different therapist each time. I'm also disappointed by the owner's responses on reviews here where accusations are made regarding the truthfulness of reported experiences. My sale ID from my receipt is 470227. Penelope is a mismatch for its location. I wish it weren't! What a great opportunity Penelope has here. I'm afraid they should let someone else with more experience operate the space and relocate to somewhere along Aurora where they don't need pesky things like certifications, training, credentials, and amenities. Edit: I received an email response where the business chose to double down on the same type of feedback they provide to others on Yelp. Very dismissive. When all you can do is point a customer to your website as if that resolves issues, I don't know how you continue to attract new customers. Dropped the rating from 2 stars down to 1 star for that reason. !!! 2ND UPDATE: Hoist by their own petard I suppose! They sent a multi-page email threatening me with "defamation, business disparagement, and tortious interference" if I did not take down my review. They scrutinized my booking history (debating whether this was my first or second visit, as my previous visit was booked under my partner's name) and even admitted to digging through my Yelp history to criticize my other reviews. Does this seem like a good response to negative feedback to you? There are other spas at hotels in downtown Seattle, I'll certainly be visiting one of those next time and I recommend you do the same if you don't want to be threatened with legal action if you don't enjoy your massage.

A prepaid gift should be fully honored when they sell it as a package on their website. Forcing a customer to pay extra for a prepaid package is a terrible business practice. The massage and facial were just okay. Not exceptional experiences.There were communication issue with the girl who performed my massage. The girl that did my massage asked if I would like them to work on my sculp that day. I was confused if she meant during the massage it facial so I asked. She said "Oh! You have a facial appointment too? Then I'll let her do that during the facial." However, the girl who performed facial did not perform massage on my sculp. I'm not very pleased with the experience and would not go back or recommend to anyone.

Booked a massage and hydrotherapy, pretty easy to book online or call in (required for a couples…read moremassage). Easily accessible, few blocks away from Bellevue Square and even walkable from the new 2 line link. Parking is available in their small garage but only for 3 hours (validated online with a code Yuan Spa provides). Otherwise there's street parking. Arriving early is a plus to use the washroom or relax in their lounge area with snacks (wasabi peas, banana chips, and honey pretzel sticks) and hot tea. Shoutout to Jessica and Emma for our massages. They were extremely comforting and the hour flew by insanely quick. Hydrotherapy is self guided between a hot pool, cool pool, steam room, and dry sauna. All are soothing but many gyms have these as well, so I'm torn whether it's worth it. However, definitely a nice supplement to other services here in the same location, which is a fair argument. One thing I hate is the check out process. After checking out, they'll ask if "you'd like to add a gratuity" which I always feel is just a darker practice in the social moment. A good massage deserves a tip for quality service, but hydrotherapy feels like an interesting gray area. However, it's easier to just give a percentage on the total amount. On the flip side, I love how they also provide up to 30 minutes buffer after hydrotherapy (maybe also other services, but we ended on hydro) to shower and leave. Passing that half hour mark would result in a charge rounded up to the next hour.

Salon Circa is an incredible experience and it is home to my favorite stylist James Thomas! I have been going to James Thomas for 6+ years. In those years he has perfected my blonde hair through foils making it look extremely natural! I always had a fear of getting blonder and the grow out being unbearable, James foils my hair in such a pattern that the grow out is barely noticeable for months! I also naturally have curly/wavy hair, he is the only stylist I have ever had that knew how to properly layer my hair without using a razor to thin out my extremely thick hair! I have been through many hair styles throughout the years with him as well; from the basic 90's side sweep bangs, full on front bangs with long layers, to simply properly layered perfect waves. I have brought him new clients throughout the years that have stuck with him after just one visit! This salon is extremely nice, yet also feels like a home. They offer drinks as soon as you walk in the door along with a robe to change into so your clothes are safe. I have also gone to James for special events including prom for myself way back when and my sisters wedding just recently. The staff will come to your site fully equipped and ready to make you feel like a princess on your special day! I have been going to see Drew for about a year now and he has literally changed my life - inside and out. He was recommended by a very good friend that has been seeing him for 4+ years and absolutely raves about him all the time. The first time I went, I shamefully walked through the doors after a horrible experience at a hair party and I knew instantly that Drew was going to take care of me. He truly cared about helping me feel better about myself (and my poor hair decisions) and has transformed me into a confident red head that gets compliments everyday on my hair. He warned me that to fix the horrible magenta color that was forced upon me at the hair party, it would take time & patience because he didn't want to damage my hair. It has been almost a year and I have the perfect color. Drew is a very talented man and I look forward to my salon visits because I know i'll leave feeling great about my hair and gain new knowledge about how to take care of it better (product, maintenance, etc). DREW IS THE MAN! Drew has been my stylist for about 8 years now and he ALWAYS does a wonderful job. We've tried different things over the years, from very short to shoulder-length cuts and the cuts always look great. Because I'm not the most decisive about what to do with my hair, what will help it to grow out, etc., I appreciate that he provides guidance and an educated opinion; based on my hair's thickness, curl, and the amount of effort (minimal) that I want to to put into styling each morning. The coloring (partial foil highlights) looks excellent and I only have color done 2x/year because they are so blended and grow out nicely. I also appreciate that he does a great job of thinning my incredibly thick head of hair out. I am also not always diligent about returning promptly for my next hair cut and he styles it in such a way that it can grow out and look good for several months. The experience at Salon Circa is very pleasant, but Drew is the reason to go there. It also doesn't hurt that he is fun to chat with and our appointments fly by as if I were at happy hour with a friend. read more

Go see Julee for your waxing, spa and nail needs!!! I have been going to Julee for over 3 years now for waxing, the occasional facial, and to get my nails done before a night out on the town. She has such a great gentle demeanor, calming attitude that really makes the experience great. Her eyebrow shaping and waxing is always excellent due to her 25+ years in the beauty care industry. She offers all types of services, and is always professional and very thorough. I have sent my mom and other friends to see her and no one is ever disappointed. I would highly recommend her to anyone in the downtown area that needs a little touch up now and then. Salon Circa is in a great location in the heart of Downtown close to several business and shopping. They are open on Saturdays too so sometimes I make a day of it in the city. Drew has taken care of me for over 10 years and has brought my hair from a total mess to manageable & really healthy. Drew's ability to create a precision cut that is unique to your face is amazing but if you need a colorist...Drew is the best I've ever seen! No one can tell that I color my hair. i was referred to Emmanuel by a friend who loves his haircuts and his colors - he worked magic on my hair! i wanted a tint of red, and he mastered exactly what i had asked him to do. He thinned my huge curly mushroom cloud of a head to take shape and my friends and co workers all couldn't stop talking about how great i looked. so i went back to him a few more times. each time we had fun, the shampoo massage is to die for, and each time, he knows what looks good, and he goes for it. my hair style is now hip, makes me look thinner, and is a clean cut for a girl who's hair used to look very sloppy. he got to know me a little and styled my hair to what he thought would work with my head habits, keeping the sexy parts but adding a twist. he's hilarious, so incredibly sweet, and a joy to be around, as a plus. Michael: What can I say? I would (and have) followed Michael wherever he goes in his styling career. No, I am not a stalker. I am a very satisfied customer who doesn't have the patience to spend hours in front of the mirror every morning trying to make my hair look good. It has been more than a week since my visit to Salon Circa, and I am still as enthusiastically happy about it as I was when I left the salon. I found Salon Circa through Yelp and have to say that the comments were dead on! A few months ago I permed my hair somewhere else, and although the perm was successful, it was still not what I had hoped for. James not only gave me a haircut that brought-out and show-cased the curls, but he also took the time to show me how to style my hair to get the results I want. He was friendly, knowledgeable and experienced. He explained what he was doing and why so that I would better understand what works for my hair type. I have been using Julee Jackson as my pedicurist, manicurist, brow tint expert and for facials for many years now. She was originally trained by Elizabeth Arden, and worked at Frederick and Nelson when they had a very fancy EA spa. She really knows her stuff, runs a spotless business, and is efficient and friendly and gives you her full attention. Salon Circa now has a buzzer system to let you into their lobby, and then you just take the elevator to the 5th floor. Though we would all like things to be better for the homeless, there are obvious sanitary reasons why there have to be restrictions for who can use the building. It will not inconvenience you, and you'll find many other businesses that are not on the ground floor of a building are employing the same methods. Under Randy Evans supervision, Theresa Bloomberg cut my hair on Sep 19th . This is the best hair cut that I have had so far. Randy Evans is so professional and he guided Teresa step by step amazing. I am an Asian woman and my fair is soft and flat. Theresa did a terrific job so I do not have to blow my hair in the morning and my hair still looks great. I remember how Randy "diagnosed" my hair and the shape of my hair. He told Teresa that she needed to include all the factors when cutting hair. I called for an appointment, first available, and was told that James was available. I grabbed the appointment. The salon is beautiful and the location very convenient for me. James is a true professional and made me feel comfortable immediately. I have unruly hair - cowlicks, starting to gray, waves, etc. He asked me about my hair "history" and want I wanted to achieve. He made a couple of suggestions and then we went off to wash my hair. We talked and he cut, taking his time, and explaining what he was going to do. The end results were stunning. Drew Teal is AMAZING! I've been going to see him since I was a freshman in college, which is 9 years! Every time I go to see him, he always asks me what look I want and he always gives me a style that makes me feel so beautiful. I've done many different looks - from side bangs with long, wavy curls, to short Rhianna-style bob. I have curly hair and many stylists do not know how to cut it correctly so that it styles well, has enough body and grows out nicely in between cuts. When I was living abroad for two years, I would schedule my hair appointments with Drew when I would be in town because I didn't want anyone else to touch my hair. I've been coming to Salon Circa ever since my stylist, Drew, moved there. April is fantastic, and always helpful. Very comfortable environment. Of course, the reason I come here is Drew. He's been styling my hair for over 9 years, and I don't trust anyone else to touch it! He always knows exactly how to cut it, even if I have no idea what I want. He knows my hair and how to work with it, especially how it will grow out if I can't come in for a trim. I recently moved out of state, but am traveling back to have him cut my hair. I have been getting my hair done by stylist Drew Teal for several years now. I have followed him to Salon Circa, which is by far the best salon he's ever worked at! It's so nice there. I would not let anyone else touch my hair, period. Drew has a special way of giving you the best hair for you and he's always honest about what's best for your hair type and condition. I've been bleached blonde to black and back with Drew and my hair remains pretty healthy for all the abuse and color. I read some of the other reviews and Drew IS a 5 star person as well! I've been seeing Tina for almost 12 years now and I can't say enough about her professionalism, her vision and her kindness. She truly is an expert at what she does and is always challenging herself to learn more and ensure her clients are getting the best. I can't tell you how many times I've been stopped on the street by strangers literally around the world with compliments about my hair. Tina will make you feel like a million bucks and look like it too. Salon Circa is a great space with a good view of 4th ave. Billy Joel said it best when he sang "He (She's) got a way about him." Gary not only knows his stuff when it comes to color and cut but he makes you feel like you are his only client! I have had bad experiences at Salon Circa with Randy and his color assistants. He used to cut my hair, and was also in charge of coloring it. His color "assistants" are always in-training, thus not very experienced. Numerous times I have had to go back for either a re-cut or a re-color. The work is sloppy and extremely inconsistent. Unfortunately, co-owners Leslie and Gary do not guarantee the quality of work done by their employees. I was harrassed by phone calls from Gary after I requested a re-color - after Randy had already agreed to take care of it. I will never go to Salon Circa again. Buyer beware! read more

Love love love the hair that Randy Evans creates for me and now my friends...and now the models for my photo shoots. I'm so grateful to have crossed paths with this talent. He cuts and colors my tresses...every time I leave I have swagger and feel like a rock star. I am also a photographer, very visually driven and just finished a photo shoot with two beautiful models who's hair was styled by Randy all day long. His ability to create amazing looks over and over again in addition to being able to cut and prepare hair for those looks is unmatched. Thank God for you Randy! Ok, seriously? James is out of this world good. I just went in for a haircut last week. I, for once, had a reference picture for what I wanted and then, of course, forgot it in my car on my way to the salon. I sat down in the chair, told James what I was looking for and BAM, less than an hour later, I not only had an AMAZING haircut that gets me constant compliments, but it looks EXACTLY like the picture I meant to bring in. Andy helped me work out a plan for it and did a cut that gave my fine, very straight hair lots of movement, texture, and style even with my super low maintenance daily routine. It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package). I also loved seeing all the different types of neighborhood people around--not just like fancy people getting their hair done but a really wide spectrum from older dudes to younger NB folx and femmes. Everyone is so professional, they listen to what you want and work with you to make sure you have an amazing outcome. I am now in the process of transitioning from red hair to gray which is no easy feat! Annie mapped out a plan to make sure I'd look fantastic throughout it all while keeping my hair healthy. As others have said, this is a warm, friendly place. No attitude here. Their goal is to make sure you walk out happy and feeling great about yourself. Additionally all the stylists donate their time to support many Seattle non-profits, another reason I love supporting this salon!

They got me in for a consult the next day, showed genuine care and concern that made the awful situation seem less dire. I had not known that otherwise I would have rejected the appointment. My hair lifts easily, and Haley noted that. Despite that, she used too strong a developer and damaged my hair beyond belief. Not only that. She missed half of my head with toner. She noticed. And didn't tell me. She let me leave the salon with half of my head not toned. It's very noticeable from the back. I didn't see it at the appointment because she didn't show me the back - and now I know why. That's the worst of it, but she also didn't rinse my hair properly, so I still had product dried up and crusty in my hair. And she barely used any product while she blew out my hair on the highest heat, burning my scalp a couple of times and damaging my hair even more. And it was still a bit wet by the time I left. I'm usually pretty relaxed, so I didn't complain until after I went home and noticed that my head wasn't properly toned (which is also not that hard to do, I've done it myself during covid lockdowns - so it really is incredible that she messed up this bad and didn't say anything, hoping I wouldn't notice). Nothing about my experience with Haley was positive. Her work was incredibly sloppy, negligent, and dishonest. Edited to add (in response to Howie, the owner): You know the issue isn't with the toner itself - I did not see that she didn't do the back otherwise I obviously wouldn't have been "pleased". Again, you know this. I have a photo attached. You see how bad it is. I don't know why you're trying to act like that quality of service is okay. I didn't realize Red Chair's standards were so low, and I regret that I gave you all a shot :/ Also, I have to spend the holidays looking like this. So thanks for that.

I am Latin and my hair shows it. It is long, dark, think and there is A LOT of it. It has a wavy texture that allows me to do both straight or curly. I work and travel a lot so low maintenance is key. I went to Gene Juarez and tried a couple of people there, They ranged from $65 to $90 plus tip. While non were terrible hair cuts, considering the price, I wasn't impressed. Then I decided to do research and found Kelly at Peter Lopez. I read the reviews about how she was "the best thing that has happened to my hair." So I tried her and I can't tell you how much I agree with it. I just got a hair cut. But I explained my problem and what I wanted. She explained why the problems were happening and what she could do to fix it. I am never going to anyone else again. Once I get color Ill report back on that.

Normally after a haircut I run home and restyle my hair, but not this time! I preserved it for almost an entire week, getting compliments every single day. But the real test was when I finally shampooed and styled my hair by myself, which is usually a scrunch and drip-dry method. I am super low maintenance. Well, I LOVE IT!!! It looks completely different from when Madison styled it (I knew it would, and I told my husband not to get used to it, LOL), but it is completely me, and my curls frame my face just the way I hoped they would! It does not feel like self-care going here, it feels like you've stepped into a place run by 20-somethings who don't have any idea of how to be professional or create a relaxing ambiance for clientele. Overall, stylists don't take direction so requires multiple visits and my money. This place is very amateur. Lastly, their draconian cancellation policies. I am a healthcare provider in a high risk inpatient unit and became suddenly ill as a result of working with very ill patients. I let this place know that I didn't want to come in and get everybody sick, so they charged me $210 for services not rendered. Punished for doing the ethical thing. My recommendation is to go anywhere else.

They feature local artists' work that I often want to steal off the walls. The cute and cozy interior of the shop is inviting and comfortable - good for a gal like me who spends a couple hours there each time she visits! The shop's easy to get to if you walk and easy to park by if you drive - it's easy to bus to, as well! Stuart's also amazing - I've seen him work wonders on hair.
