I enjoyed the consultation tremendously, because Randy took all aspects of my opinion and how my hair is, into full consideration. He is awesome! Salon Circa is a nice place to come get a haircut. April the receptionist is super kind and helpful, the location is great, the tea tastes good, there are a variety of magazines, comfortable fancy couches in the waiting room etc. It's a nice salon. But there are lots of nice salons in this town. What makes Salon Circa for me is Mr. Drew Teal. When I moved here from NYC, fresh off the week-long drive across I-90, I needed a great haircut to start job interviewing, making new friends in town etc. I went to an all-ladies party, and these two sisters both had amazing haircuts. They were sisters, and evidently they both, along with their other 2 sibs ALLLL go to see the same guy because he consistently gives them adorable & swanky but also practical haircuts. My new friend gave me Drew's number: that was 4 years ago, and I haven't entrusted my hair to another hairdresser since. Except one time in a real pinch right before a wedding when Drew wasn't available, and then I had Randy at Salon Circa cut it, and he did a nice job too.** The thing about Drew is that I know that I can trust him to give me an awesome haircut every time. Sometimes he foils it or bleaches it too, to great effect. Sometimes I walk in and I know what I want. Sometimes I just say, "Drew, please just fix me up." No matter what, I can trust him to have an educated, tasteful opinion and the skills to execute whatever, and a knowledge of how to work WITH my hair rather than against it. It's always a good conversation, and I have never walked out of there feeling even a little disappointed with my cut. He knows the current trends, knows what's timeless and flattering, and somehow manages to strike a balance that feels personalized and edgy and highly fashionable while still keeping it professional. He really cares about the details. Drew is really practical and unselfish too. He helps me figure out how to cut it well for times when I know I won't get back in again for a few months, or when I want to grow it out on purpose. He does free bang trims (or when it's really short, as it often is, nape-of-neck trims.) :) He doesn't push overpriced product on me, which I really appreciate. Even though the cut is pricey, it feels like a great value that I can splurge on with less consistency even when money is tight. Complete strangers, co-workers & friends often gush about my cute hair, and ask who does it. I literally have just started keeping one of his business cards in my wallet because I get asked so much. Over half of the women in the software development office where I work are now converts. In New York, I had always wanted to find someone that could just be my go-to hair person every time, but I never found someone who made my hair consistently awesome enough for me to want to come see them more than once or twice. Looking back over the years, I realize that Drew not only provides this "consistently awesome" haircut, I actually really look forward to coming and sitting in his chair and checking in with him every month or two or three. Whether we talk about Miley Cyrus or vegetarianism or family or job stuff or marathon running or LGBTQ politics on the Hill, I realize that Drew has borne witness to my life here, and helped me put down roots. When I consider moving to San Fransisco for work, the thought of having to find someone else to cut my hair is kind of a sad deterrent. It's one of those little relationships that makes life rich, that make you realize you DO live in community. I am thankful for Salon Circa, and I'm thankful for Drew. With Monica's recommendation, I hired JAMES to do my makeup for my wedding and I cannot say enough how amazed I was with James' skill and artistry. From then, I have booked James to do my makeup for different special occasions. He is confident with his skills and will use makeup to highlight your best features - not cover them. I found Salon Circa through Yelp and could not have been more pleased with how my hair turned out!! Monica was my stylist-- she made me feel comfortable, welcomed and at ease. She listened to what I was looking for (formal holiday work party) and even offered her input on how big I should make my waves. She took the time to decide on the right products to make my hair remain the same for the duration of the night. I have extremely curly hair and Monica had me washed, blow dried, lightly straightened and styled all within an hour and a half--amazing! I cannot wait to return to Salon Circa for my next hair appointment! read more

I had been wanting to get a perm for a while, and decided to do so during a visit to my sister, who lives in Seattle (she was working that afternoon). After reading such great reviews on Yelp, I decided to visit Salon Circa. However, I was sorely disappointed with the experience - I have Asian hair, and if the stylist (his name escapes me) didn't have experience working with Asian hair, he should have said something up front. 2 hours and ~$150 later, I walked out of the salon with extremely frizzy, knotted, and damaged hair...I even had kinks around almost my entire hairline from poorly put in rollers, resulting in the hair breaking off later! After my visit to Seattle, went back to my regular salon and had to spend about another ~$150 (and 3 hours) to relax the perm and control the damage. My stylist went on and on about how badly she felt for me as she explained every mistake that was made in the process of the original perm. As a result, I will never visit this salon again, nor recommend it to my friends still in Seattle. read more

DREW. I have always listened to the reviews on Yelp and had good experiences however when it counted this one proved disastrous. I was traveling from out of town, ran out of time for a trim, had a wedding to attend on Friday and a new job to start on Tuesday. Drew was definitely personable. I liked him and trusted him on personality alone....was I wrong. I asked for a trim. He said an inch. I told him I thought I needed more. I wasn't worried about going shorter and he said layers would be great. I explained to him, I have never liked layers. He went on and on about way my hair curls long layers would work great. I explained I was trying to grow my hair out AGAIN for Locks of Love and really didn't want layers. I thought he won't do layers like I have had before because I told him I don't like layers. He went into a whole speach about how people with curly hair refer their friends....and I trusted him. By the time he dried and straight ironed my hair, he knew I wasn't happy. It was fine, the wedding was in a couple hours and although it wasn't me. I went on my way......MISTAKE and I can only blame myself at that point. Went to the wedding and the next day...... I spent two hours trying to straighten it and figure out HOW he could have cut over 6 inches from the length of my hair to the shortest layers and Drew described it as long layers. I called the salon three times to see if he could get me back in and cut it all one length. He didn't call me back until after the salon was closed and told me he could get me in on Tuesday. Worst customer service...I should have received a call back in 20 minutes like I was told the first time I called. I flew back to San Francisco on Monday and start a New Job Tuesday with an awful haircut. Lesson learned, I have to be more assertive. Hopefully one day Drew will learn when a client says no layers and they are not a regular client who he can make it up to, he should LISTEN! read more

He is not only extremely kind, humorous and personable but his talent manifests through his hands and his vision for beauty is visible through his trade. A stone's throw and a 5 minute walk from Pike Place Market, this salon is chic without being pretentious, and my stylist, Drew, knew exactly what to do with my unpredictable curls. Next time I'm in town, I'll be coming here again--I may get mighty shaggy in the meantime, but it'll be worth the wait for the expert touch and finesse I recieved at Salon Circa. read more

I went here to get acrylics done, and I wouldn't recommend this place for that. I like the fact that Salon Circa seems clean and they hand file (I figured this would mean more attention to detail) but Julie just doesn't do as good of a job as I'd like for the amount paid. I don't mind paying extra and spending more time for a job well done, but she missed spots with the acrylic, filed unevenly, and the paint job was something I could've done myself. She's a very sweet lady and has repeat customers, but I wouldn't recommend getting acrylics done here. I can't speak for shellac or regular manicures. The staff were all very nice, though, and it seems like their customers are their friends. The atmosphere is great, and it's very quiet (5th floor) and relaxing. I really wanted this to become my new spot, but I'll continue my search for the perfect acrylic nail salon. read more

Drew is amazing! I have trusted my hair to him for several years! He is great about looking at photos I bring in (for ideas or to show him styles I love) and he is always honest about what would or would not work for me based on my face shape and hair texture. He gives excellent advice about how to keep my hair healthy looking. I also love how he doesn't push me to buy any products. He uses great finishing products on my hair and happily shows them to me or answers my questions about them, but never makes me feel like I MUST buy them or my hair will not look good. Michael, Michael, Michael - he's The Bomb! First, the salon - it's an unexpected gem in the midst of a busy downtown block. A very calm, spotless and spa-like atmosphere, and they have TONS of reading materials. Personally I use the time to indulge a guilty pleasure of reading trashy magazines while beautifying. Now, on to the beautification process - Michael is a wizard. I've seen him work on straight, wavy and curly hair and it's all good. He has a knack for quickly assessing your hair, your face and your overall persona and knowing what color/cut/shape will work best. Listen to him! He's been taking care of my hair for nearly 4 years. Sadly i have recently moved to the East coast, but i will do my best to get back to Michael whenever i can. Trust him, he is awesome! read more

I came here on lunch a few weeks ago as I work down the street and really needed a shellac manicure. I found Salon Circa on yelp and the reviews were pretty good and the pricing seemed reasonable. My gf needed a brow wax also so we were booked with the same woman, Julie. We arrive at this sketch looking building on 3rd and are buzzed in. Take a super old elevator up to the salon and I felt like I walked into the 90s. It just seemed like they were trying to be very pretentious, but they're a bit dated/old school. (If that makes sense) So Julie takes my friend into the back to get waxed, and I'm sat at this small desk in the waiting area with maybe 10 shellac colors and I'm holding both of my hands awkwardly in acetone (to get the precious shellac off) for about oh 25 min, listening to a stylist and his customer talk behind me for most of that 25 min about their friend who is an ex millionaire who lost all of his money numerous times to bad investments and then trying to buy old art/furniture from someone down south. (Yep. Heard the whole conversation as they were literally in the chair right behind me sitting on my coat) i mean come on! You see me sitting here, not being able to do anything since I'm "soaking" and you have this super awkward conversation? Not awesome. Julie comes back and she starts peeling off my nail polish (doesn't tell me to go wash my hands, nothing). Again she only had 10 shellac colors to choose from and due to the lighting, you can't really tell what the colors are! I mean get some samples out like nail salons have so we can figure out what we like! As she's doing my nails meticulously she brings out 1 hand dryer which I'm used to at my normal salon I go to- but the way she had my dry my hands was just weird. My normal lady has me put 1 hand in the dryer while she paints the other hand at the same time. Julie? Nope. 4 fingers on 1 hand and then thumb on the other stuffed into 1 small dryer. It was uncomfortable and I knew the polish wouldn't last. Also this took FOREVER as her method took even longer as she knew we were on lunch. Anyway at the end usually they put some lotion on you, give you a hand massage.. anything like that..well she used the acetone to make my nails "not sticky" but didn't notice that my nails were not all shiny. Also because of the way she had me awkwardly put my hands in the dryer, the polish did not cover all of my nails so really it didn't look awesome. Then checking out she charges $40?!! Girl, I know you're competing with the Fairmont (which you guys aren't..) and I'd expect more out of this so called high end salon. Lower your prices, get a private room, get more colors, and don't rush through people! read more

I went to Courtney to get my hair colored for the first time last week and it was overall a really good experience! I have long slightly coarse curly light brown-blonde hair and sometimes it intimidates hairstylists. But Courtney knew exactly how to handle curls and made sure we were very clear with what colors I wanted. When she finished it was a little too dark (she was the one to suggest it) and she immediately offered to redo it even though the salon was near closing time. She did it PERFECT the second time (seriously best coloring I've ever had) and offered a free deep conditioning hair treatment because of her mistake. I'll definitely go back to Courtney. read more

I have followed Michael Weigand around Seattle for 18 years, and he's worth it! Having naturally curly hair, I'm rather particular about who cuts it. From the very beginning, Michael asked lots of questions, listened to what I did and didn't want and cut incrementally so the desired effect was achieved. Need a bang trim? No problem - just stop in. This is my first review on Yelp, inspired by Michael at Salon Circa. He is simply AMAZING. I had the absolute worst haircut of my life at another trendy salon in downtown Seattle. I was new to Seattle and was referred by a new friend to that stylist. The haircut from this woman was more atrocious than the mushroom/bowl haircuts my mom gave me as a small child! I was mortified by that cut and had to wear my hair in a little pony tail with bangs pinned back for 2 months to grow it out a little. I was referred to Michael by a dear friend who has been seeing him for over a decade, and she has beautiful, fabulous hair. Upon meeting Michael, I felt immediately at ease with his gentle and friendly demeanor. We talked about my hair and I showed him pictures of what my hair once was. Then I showed him the horrid remains of the last haircut I received and told him what I like. Michael gave me his recommendations too and he proceeded to wash and cut my hair. He is a technical genius. Even when my hair was still wet, I could see how beautifully it was becoming. At the time, I could tell the way he cut my hair would help transition it out from the mess it was before...but I had NO idea it was going to not only be a nice transition cut...but THE BEST haircut I've ever received! The next day, I was going to a party...and I washed, dried, and styled my hair myself...and it was so easy to do. And I couldn't believe my eyes when my hair looked so wonderful, voluminous, and happy again. Michael is a true artist who understands hair and the dynamics of hair. And what's more...he is so personable and sweet. I'm so grateful to Michael for giving me back my hair...and my confidence. He's a true talent. read more

Randy Evans is new at Salon Circa. But he is not new to being a hair stylist I first met him in 1985 and he still cuts my hair! He has been to Milan, Italy and worked the fashion shows for Giorgio Armani, teaches younger students the trick of the trade, and lectures at the Art Institute of Seattle. His approach is simple but he is a star! His style and sensibility is second to none. He has an incredible talet for styling a person's hair to be it's best. I love the way he is able to perfectly cut/style my hair in a way that always flows and that I can easily manage myself. But the thing I like the best is when I want a new look all I have to say is the way I want to feel, i.e. Sassy, Provocative, Sexy etc... I don't need to show him a photo because he always know what is in and what will give me the way I want to feel. I am spoiled and you can be too! read more

I love James here at Salon Circa! We met about 4 years ago, and I haven't cheated on him since. From the very beginning, I felt like he just understood what I wanted, needed, and what would look good on me when I just need a change. People like me don't know all the hair lingo and proper ways to say things so I usually say ' James, I need to look sexy, sassy and sheek, without looking to crazy, but still have that extra something that makes people notice' and he knows exactly what to do. I would recommend James to anyone I know (and I have!!) if they need a cut, a color (he is the best color specialist I have ever been to), a new look or just someone to talk to. Everyone at the salon is cordial, accomodating and sweet. It's a little pricey, but honestly, I couldnt even imagine going somewhere cheaper and risk walking away with something less than perfect (I've done it numerous times before ladies, and we all know what that feels like...). I happened to be in Seattle for 1 day only on business, Not liking what I saw in the mirror, I consulted the Net and gave Salon Circa a call. They scheduled me in right away and assigned me to Courtney. The salon is very pleasant and spacious looking, at the time decorated with sunflowers. I did not have to wait, and was offered coffee or water by the front desk staff. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. My stylist Courtney highlighted and cut my hair exactly the way I described (even without a picture), and made sure to check with me during the process to make sure I was satisfied. Which I was! I found the entire experience very positive, and will be sure to come back to the salon when in Seattle. read more

I went there for a all over color. Their online price says $60 base price. I paid $165 just for color and blow out. When I questioned it, they kept counting ridiculous stuff like extra shine and extra color. I have shoulder length hair. It does not need extra color. I am very annoyed and never paid that much for color even in my life. Even when my hair was double that long. Do not go there they will scam you and overcharge you. read more

He is attentive and makes my experience fun, and I always look and feel better when he is finished. He never pressures me to buy products, though on the rare occasion he mentions a particular product, I more carefully consider if that product will work for me. I got my hair cut, and although it isn't what I asked for, it was an acceptable cut. I.e., I don't have my head in a bag. So, I'm knocking off a star for not being able to provide what I asked. The worst part was the styling though. Admittedly, I'm annoyed that stylists are actually called that after years of seeing one after another living in the past and hosing one style after another, but that's another story. I'll leave the "style" topic with the fact that when I walked in the door at work, the office manager started laughing at the styling because it was so ridiculous. (I always wonder how they manage to style their own hair well when they do so poorly on clients' hair.) On to product.... On this particular occasion I left with so much rank product on my head that I started choking when I re-entered my office building (enclosed space) from my walk back. My freshly washed hair felt like 4th-day hair. It was so nasty that I put my head under the faucet in the kitchen at work and rinsed it all out. So I had soaking wet hair at work for an hour or so. That wasn't too bad though, compared to the helmet my hair had been from the product. So two stars off for making me use dish soap on my hair at work just to survive the remaining two hours of the day. On the positive, the facility was nice, the staff was friendly, and the hair cut price was on par with comparable salons. read more
