I've had my hair cut by Juan and he is amazing. I mean he really knows what he is doing. I bought a Groupon when I badly needed a hair cut. Juan did what he needed to do-my hair was so damaged. And he gave me bangs! I haven't had bangs since middle school (I think we all, sadly, remember what a bad idea those long bangs were.) I loved the bangs and kept coming back for bang trims. The hair cuts are expensive, but you can come back in between cuts for complimentary bang trims. I also never had trouble booking an appointment. I've been to Shine twice but I've been following my hairstylist, Devan (White), for 5 years. This is where she's currently at and I've found this locale to be pretty positive. Each stylist here rents a chair where their individual hair technique is allowed to "shine." (Yes, bad pun...) Think at last count there was 8/9 chairs and Devan told me there's 2 male stylists and the rest are female. Location is slightly hard to find but once you know to walk into the courtyward of where Campagne is, not too hard to remember. Inside is clean and has a natural product smell/fragrance?! Healthy, not like chemically chain type. Groovy music is played (was there this past Saturday AM with Hall & Oates /MJ on the speakers) Services are pricey but well worth the treat for self-indulgence. (Try it and tell me what you think.) I was really sad to see my good friend and also hairstylist of 7 years move to Hawaii but he referred me to a guy here that went to the same hair academy as he did and had very similar technique and coloring skills as he did. The salon's location is not the best and one of the biggest negatives in my experience. Located in the Pike Place Market, along an alley, trying to find parking was such a hassle especially on the weekends which is the only time I could make my appointment since they are only open from 10 am - 6 pm Tuesday thru Saturday and I work on the Eastside till 5:30 pm M-F. I had to pay for 2.5 hrs of parking which is ridiculously expensive and should have deducted that from the tip. The salon itself is not very big. Their waiting area was tiny and the noise level in there got really loud to the point my stylist and I were shouting just so we could hear each other. My stylist did a great job with the color but just alright with the cut. The cost of his services were expensive and add the parking it really was not worth going back. Good thing I found a different salon with much more reasonable prices and still good services. read more

The salon is comfortable, stylish and clean. Everyone I've worked with here is terrific. Especially Robert and Emily. They give a cut that starts out wonderful and keep getting better as it grows out. A month after a visit friends will ask me if I just had a cut. Emily styled my hair for my wedding and I loved it. It was fabulous, felt natural, looked great and lasted all day and night. And not only was the style perfect, but she was so warm and calming. I can't imagine the day without her. Love this boutique salon! It is always clean, the service is prompt and professional, and I love the vibe! Yes, they aren't supercuts - don't expect to pay under $50. But feeling and looking amazing is worth it. And if you get it done right, you don't have to mess around with going somewhere else and as often. This is exactly why I go to Shine at the Market. They truly provide a service that is worth every dime. My stylist is Heidi Molina, who also came from Mode Organic Salon. She uses all organic products, blends colors to suit you, and has a great eye for subtle yet drastically improving cuts. My hair is looks and feels healthier ever since I started going to her - like the girls in shampoo commericals, I walk out of the salon with my shades on, strolling thru the city with the wind blowing my perfect tresses! And not that having a stylist that understand me & my style and provides me with great hair isn't enough, her schedule is SO accomodating - she works on saturdays! I will also be using Heidi exclusively as my stylist for myself, my BM's, and mom's for my wedding. She ever so graciously even took the day off to accomodate me, even when I told her we'd all come to the salon. Expect another phenomenal review/update after my wedding... I went home in tears after getting my hair done here. I got my hair done by Emily...I asked her to take care of my roots and give me ombre. My roots are still there, although slightly better, and there is no ombre past the point that I already had. I went home and my roomie couldn't tell that I had my hair done. Us girls always notice...and when I asked she couldn't even see a difference. I paid TWO HUNDRED dollars to look the same and not have it fixed. I told Emily I came in because I had a groupon at the beginning and she still did my hair. At the end, she told me that she doesn't take groupons, even though I bought it for her salon. That was all of my spending money. It doesn't look any different. I'm not trying to be mean by writing this, but I want you guys to know so you can make the best decision for you. Owner/stylist Emily really should take the title "Hair Whisperer". She looks,consults a little,then cuts. What seems like moments later a fantastic cut emerges.But when you look down,there isn't much hair on the floor. Does she will the hair into submission? Be warned about Devan -- in fact, run the other way! I tried her because my stylist whom I had been seeing for many years moved out of the area. The first color job was not good - she did not match my existing color at all and I had a huge stripe. I decided to try again, because I like to give people a chance and my hair can be challenging sometimes. But after the horrendous service I received from her, I will never go back. Not only is she not good at matching color, she is VERY unreliable. She cancels her appointments that have been scheduled several weeks in advance at the last minute because she "doesn't feel like coming in" (I know of 2 other people who have experienced ~day before cancellations multiple times and have left her as a result). When she cancels, there are no apologies and the reschedule can be a week or two out. For people who color their hair regularly, this is inexcusable. Her prices are also VERY high (and I have been to top salons so price is not usually of any issue for me), which I would actually pay for someone who was amazing at color but she is not. She also changes her prices randomly so you don't know what you might be charged in the future. Finally, she takes 3-4 hours to do what all other stylists do in 2 hours max...and again, if the results were amazing it would be worth it but they are not. Overall, she has a total lack of regard for others' needs and no sense of customer service. There are so many other amazing colorists in the area (I LOOOOOOOVE my new one), I cannot understand why anyone would put up with her ever. read more

I have two words for you: gummi bears. Shine has mini Haribo gummi bars at the front desk! Okay, before you skip to the next review, I'm not basing my five star rating on their yummy candy treats; I'm just saying it definitely helps. The real reason I'm giving a woohoo! as good as it gets! review is because Emily Alyward has consistently given me great haircuts every few months for the last ten years. Over the years she's perfectly highlighted, tinted and chopped my locks. I will never stray from her precise cut of my Betty Page bangs. Outside of the amazing Miss Emily, the rest of the staff has always been very cool and accommodating to me. The space may be a little tucked away but it's great for those who work downtown and, fresh off my awesome haircut high, I love shopping for flowers at the Market. read more

Best way to find it is to go down the alley on your right from the spot where everyone takes the "Public Market" photo. We have gone to Chelsea since arriving in Seattle from Los Angeles. Chelsea was formerly at Mode Organic for many years, which is where we first met her until her move to Shine at Inn in the Market. Chelsea Kane is absolutely brilliant with the cut, male or female. Each visit, she takes the time to figure out and even talk out what your needing in your cut. I have been to top LA salons, and Chelsea is just as fantastic and capable. She also does wonderful color and highlights and I would venture to say perhaps better than anyone else in Seattle only because I haven't seen very many notable highlight jobs since moving to Downtown Seattle over a year ago. Anyway, we (husband and self) enjoy our 1-2 hours in the chair with Chelsea and we find her rates to be fair. We highly recommend! read more

I have followed Chelsea Duke from Mode Organic Salon, I have trusted her with my hair for almost 3 years now. About 1.5 years ago, I decided that I was tired of driving from Bothell to Seattle to get a cut, so I began experimenting with other stylist, only to get my hair butchered! Needless to say, I went running back to Chelsea, and I now happily make that drive for a great haircut, that grows out fabulously. How is it possible that every time I get my haircut by Emily (Aylward) it's the best haircut I've had? She outdoes herself each time. Sometimes I even come in with unrealistic requests like - make it so my hair always looks perfect, but I never have to do anything to it - and she figures out how to translate them into an incredible haircut. I had the pleasure of getting my haircut yesterday at Sine In The Market. It is in a great location in the heart of downtown Seattle near the market. It is tucked away from the street and all the hustle and bustle of the market. The salon itself is relatively small but is nicely decorated and inviting. I have met the owner Emily and Molly the receptionist and they both are incredibly nice. I had my hair cut by Doria. I decided back in May to cut my hair off into a pixie cut. I have been every so slowly growing gt out since then. My hair recently hit a very awkward point of growing out. It didn't matter what I did it just didn't look good. Doria did a fantastic job cleaning my hair up. She was very sensitive to the fact that I wanted to, if possible, leave as much length as possible but still wanted to look good. She listened to what I wanted and made some spot on suggestions on how my hair could look better if she was to cut my hair slightly different then what wanted. My hair looks amazing now. What is so phenomenal is my hair doesn't look any shorter, but looks nice and styled, instead of a mess. I would strongly suggest that anyone looking for a salon in Downtown Seattle to check out Shine In The Market. Doria is wonderful but based on what I saw while there, any of there other stylists would be a great choice. read more

I go here specifically because Emily Aylward does great things to my hair, for cut, color and style. She's dealt with my wavy early gray hair in a multitude of ways over the years, and I always leave her looking perfectly gorgeous. Of all the salons where Em's had a station, Shine is my favorite. The front desk folks are sweet and efficient, the location is cozy and convenient for me (Pike Place Market, in the courtyard of Inn at the Market) and the other stylists are welcoming and friendly--even though some are pretty darn famous, there's no lame attitude from anyone. I've seen a huge age range at this salon, from teen to retiree, and I'd average the gender split of the clientele to be about 65% women, 35% men. read more
