I don't know why everyone on here is being salty about Salgados. This place is one of my favorite Belton establishments! They have amazing breakfast tacos, and a very large selection to choose from. They bring out two kinds of salsa for your tacos, and are very good about making sure everything at the table is going well. Great food, great service, and great prices! read more

For all of you that say this place has poor customer service - I think your crazy. These people have never treated me with less than family-like service. Especially when dining in. They make sure we have everything we need, are friendly, and everything is clean and the food is fresh. Speaking of the food - The number 2 burrito is my "Last Meal" selection. The bacon alone is worth the trip from out of town. The chorizo mixed with the beans and potatoes is a masterful combination. Yes - I believe the tortillas have changed over the years, but I don't think it affected the quality of the final product. They've raised their prices recently, but I don't care. They've got me. I've eaten here a bunch of times and when I ordered the Camarones del Diablo (Devil's Shrimp) this time, they came out still shelled and with the legs still on them, and they were UNDER-COOKED and COLD.!!! Nasty. The waitress said she would get another order out right away and it took her 40 minutes to do this. Everyone else had finished their food by then after they had said they would wait for me to receive my plate.. Can you blame them?? No big deal, but not real professional of this place either.. A couple in there once told me that they only come for the breakfast and one or two items off the lunch menu. This is SO-SO Mexican food.... The guy looked like he might jump out the window at me for asking for to go creamers when I bought $45 worth of tacos. Very bad service. Came in sat down and waited 15 minutes before they even came and took our drink order . The boy who brought the drinks said he was just the bus boy and could no take our order we waited another five minutes than I got up to go place order at check out counter where the lady behind the counter did not even acknowledge me or say anything to the fact that they are slow to service. I've been coming to this family-owned establishment since high school and I love the place. I dig the creepy clown decor and the weird orange color of the building- the mural was a nice touch. People complain about service, but I've never had a bad experience. Don't go in there with a stick up your ass; clearly, the woman is not going to take shit from anyone and I applaud her for that. I'm tired of witnessing establishments kiss customer's asses when there is no problem except the patron's unwarranted self-importance. That being said... Breakfast burritos are freaking AWESOME. Huge, stuffed with ingredients and most for under $5, save for the 'premium'- fajita, carne guisada- which are under $6. Did I mention they wrapped an entire migas plate into one of these bad boys? This place is hangover heaven. No alcohol and strange hours, but they specialize in enchiladas and I personally enjoy their menudo. Most people dislike the salsa, but I think it goes very well with my favorite product- the breakfast burritos. Order yourself a horchata and you're good to go! read more

Best Mexican food I've had in the area! Just had breakfast this morning, I will definitely be back to try lunch.

I don't know what the other people's problems are - the service is great. This is a family-owned business and they treat you like real people, so sure, it's not a yes sir, no sir, can I kiss your feet sir. If you need something they get it (and get it quickly) and your drink stays full. To me that's good service. When I asked what the waiter (who is the owner's son) would order, he suggested the enchiladas suizas, and I was not disappointed. The tomatillo salsa on top was very tasty, the chicken was moist, and most importantly the enchilada was FULL of stuffing, not a tablespoon or two rolled up in mostly tortilla like you get at some places. Also, the salsa is delicious, ignore the other person. It's smoky and spicy - I asked for the recipe and the waiter told me how they cooked it (I call that service, too). My boyfriend got a chimichanga covered in cheese sauce and gone in less than 3 minutes, which is a good indication of how good the food is. For a tiny little town not in the big city (we're from Austin), this was a great stop. read more

I will never go to this place again!! The first time I went here with my husband and adult children. My son's order had one of the waitress's long red hair in it. Needless to say, we all felt a bit grossed out by this and could choke down our food. Next time I just went through the drive through to get a large ice tea. The women at the window comes back with the tea and tells me it is $2.44. I have never paid that much for an iced tea. And then their visa machine did not work and they had no lemon. This is a small-town restaurant with delicious food. The staff appear to be mostly family, and they were kind and treated us like family. I don't personally care for their salsa (it's warm & tangy), but their food makes up for it! I recommend this place to anyone looking for a non-chain Mexican-food option. read more

They treat people like it's a cattle call line they do not care if your order is correct or take ANY pride in their product they just basically slap whatever is handy burned or not cold or not and wrap it up shove it in a bag and holler NEXT . God forbid you say something about the quality or customer service they will give you nasty looks and straight up call you a liar. They seem to have forgotten that without customers they would NOT EXIST!!! A year ago, this place would get 5 stars from me. Even 7 years ago, it would get 5 stars. I went to belton high and UMHB, and this place was one of my favorite places in town. I told all my friends about it because the breakfast burritos were amazing and they were. Unfortunately, I went a couple weeks ago and it's not the same anymore. First, the they changed the tortilla which is more thick and not as fresh as previous years. Second, they don't fill the burritos as much anymore and it's really disappointing. Lastly, instead of beef fajita, they put brisket in your burrito.....but still call it beef fajita. I've been in Belton my whole life and this place was my favorite, but I just don't see myself going anymore. It just isn't the same and that's sad. read more

Well, since I live in this "anytown, USA", I find the prior review a bit offensive. Maybe his city-boy idea of authentic Mexican food doesn't know what authentic Mexican food actually is. We've been weekly patrons of Salgado's for the past 10 years. They are actually from Mexico City originally, and there is absolutely nothing store bought at this restaurant. Being regulars, we have become friends with the family who runs the restaurant, and get "behind the scenes" details of how they make their own corn tortillas which, in turn, they make into chips, their flour torts, and the use of authentic Mexican spices. The absolutely BEST salsa anywhere (I'm originally from Austin, and have eaten "TexMex" all my life, so I don't compliment Salgado's salsa on a whim). I think most people who just "stop in on their way through town" are expecting cookie cutter Tex-Mex, and you're not going to find that here. So if you want delicious authentic Mexican food at great prices and friendly wait staff, Salgado's is the place for you. If not, there are tons of "everytown, USA" restaurants along the highway to stop in and pay too much for food that was delivered by 18-wheeler that morning and that tastes the same everywhere you go. read more

Well... we drove past a couple breakfast taco place to try this one on based on Yelp reviews. After going we should have gone someplace else. I agree that sometimes a family owned place is nice but when things go south family sticks together and customer service can suffer. Our waitress took our orders wrong somehow eventhough it looked like she wrote it down. My son orderd a potato, egg cheese taco. He got a bacon egg cheese taco. My wife wanted a bean and potato taco, but wanted the beans on the side. The waitress said they cant put the beans on the side and that we would have to order and pay for a full side. We told her to forget the side then. She still brought it. Generally not a big deal but she (the waitress) seemed upset with us that she got the order wrong. Then it turned out that the potatoes in the taco were cold in the middle. Of course the waitress didnt like to hear that either. She was not apologetic in the least during the whole episode. I ate here today for the first day in three years and I remember why, The food was pretty good, although I did not like the salsa... Ended up getting sick to my stomach about an hour and a half later... Not to mention that but the waiter reached over my friends plate and spilled her tea all over me, my food and my keys, that were sitting in the table (including my remote keyless entry)! Did they comp me my meal or even give me a discount? No. They said it was "unintentional." When I told the manager that I would make sure word got out about how awful their customer service is, she smiled at me. I have been coming to this place for years and they do have good tacos, but I will not be back. My family and I went in this morning and ate and when we got to the counter to pay she says that we owe for a taco from last week. I was totally shocked and I did not know what to say. She proceeded to tell me that we were in last week which we were and that they forgot to charge us for a taco so she was adding to the bill today. Really? Come on if you forget to charge someone for a $2 Taco you don't charge them the next time they come in just because you know they are regulars. You should take the $2 loss and ensure you don't make the mistake again. I then ask my wife about it later and she seems to think we paid for everything based on the total she paid and what we remember eating. Odd hours and the food is so-so. Some people like it, not me. Chicken breast had a like processed meat patty texture. Breakfast tacos are their speciality. They are ok, but I'm not a fan. My family and I will never eat at this establishment ever again! I never feel the need to write a review but I was so upset and outraged by the way I was treated by the owners/Managers of this restaurant. I go every year and purchase breakfast burritos for my family on Father's Day because my husband enjoys them. Well this year I went and picked up five burritos and was very clear when stating my order upon arriving home I am checking our order and not only did they not add certain items but the meat was so charred you could literally tap it on the counter completely inedible. So I call them immediately and talk to someone claiming to be a manager who offered to remake them if I wanted to return I told him I would not be returning that day because as it is it took 25 minutes to get our first order so he said he could either refund my money or write down my name so our next order would be on them, since I had never had an issue with them before I opted for the credit. I returned today to get the order promised to us and I was told that no one had ever spoken to me, that my name was never taken down that I made the entire story up. The owner flat out called me a liar I was in tears by the time I left. I could not believe a place of business would treat a customer the way they were treating me. I have never been more embarrassed and upset by a restaurant. I even showed them my call log on my phone where I indeed did call and speak to someone and the owner and his wife's response was oh well we don't know anything about it and we have a line behind you so call a lawyer if you want to but move on. I was appalled!! It has nothing to do with the money if i can not afford $28 for burritos then I shouldn't be eating out to begin with it is the fact that our first order was not edible we were told it would be replaced no problem and then I was treated horribly and completely unprofessional when I decide to let them correct their mistake. I will continue to express my dislike for their business along with the owners of this establishment to anyone I come into contact with if I can spare even one person of the humility I endured today. So if you are looking for a place who provides good food and good service keep looking because you will not find it at Salgados in Belton TX!!!
