When I walked pass Salazar I thought to myself this used to be a different restaurant but couldn't think of it. It finally clicked and I remembered it used to be El. Centro a restaurant I frequented often during happy hour back in the day with my best friends. Ended up stopping in on a random Sunday because I had a taste for some really good Mexican food and a shot or two of tequila. Luckily Salazar did not disappoint on food, service and of course the tequila. They have happy hour on the weekend as well (YESSSSSS) so I had no choice but to take advantage of that. FYI Happy hour time on the weekends are from 4-6pm. We tried the chicken quesadillas and I ordered nachos off the regular menu. Baby when I tell you the nachos were soo bomb I didn't even notice that I forgot to add a protein to it and ended up eating damn near the whole sheet pan smh (don't judge me). Margaritas and shots were a must and can't remember how many were had. Just know it was a good day/night. I stumbled upon this spot as I ventured off of U St and it is so cute. I only came in to check out the place and grab a shot, but ended up ordering some chips and salsa. The salsa wasn't too bad. While there, I saw that you can order a shot in an ice glass and throw it at the bell. If you go, please do that! It's a nice little touch. The bartenders were also sweethearts. I did not stay past 10pm because it was getting crowded. When I left, there was a longgggggg line down the black of people trying to get in. Had the best time here for happy hour--was so impressed by the vibe and the service that we decided to stay for drinks and hang out upstairs after eating! Highly recommend the nachos--very good bang for your buck and absolutely some of the best I've had. The manager Chris stopped by and said hi and checked in on us, which made us feel very welcomed. Visited Salazar a few months back and had a great experience! We visited on like early evening weekday so there really weren't too many people! They have a rooftop bar which features a bell were you can through your empty ice cup shot which was actually pretty fun! As far as the food we ordered steak and chicken quesadillas and i didn't read the menu thinking they quesadillas would be pretty simple but they had a lot going on. The chicken quesadilla had like corn in them which totally ruined the vibe because i hate corn. The steak quesadilla features jalapeños but it was okay don't remember it having much flavor. Next time i visit I'll definitely go the plain route and just get a cheese quesadilla. The drinks were good and the vibes were really good overall, i would return again for a chill evening. Parking can be tricky, it's DC but we did find street parking across the street from the restaurant. read more

Where do I begin? Well, to start off, I hosted a little birthday brunch here last year in September for my birthday. It was very fun. The staff was super nice and attentive. Prior to my birthday brunch, I have done happy hours here and the price is very reasonable for what you can get in regards to food and drinks. The food is very good and their drinks as well. I have met a bartenders there that are super welcoming and out going. I did not know that Salazar had a basement dance floor and I went there about 3 weeks ago and wow it does disappoint. The music was on point, the energy in there felt just right and made you want to have a fun night. Lastly, I hosted a company happy hour last week, and honestly hands down, best service. Don't be intimidated by the line to get in, it's worth your time. Found in the same location as El Centro before it, Salazar serves shots and seltzers as much as it does tacos and tequilas. They have "the Bell Challenge" located on the rooftop that should be mandatory for first timers. Happy Hour is EVERYDAY (4-7 Weekdays and 4-6 Weekends) and includes a solid steak quesadilla and a taco assortment all of which I was pleasantly satisfied with. Save room for that shareable $1 chips and salsa. Zero issues with service and even when slammed found drink orders reasonably quick given the volumes I've experienced. It gets busy and by no means rely on Google's "popular times" to help plan your visit. That algorithm hasn't caught up just yet FWIW... Salazar can mean "old hall" but this fresh atmosphere indicates anything but. And having just opened mid-January, I easily see the potential to match El Centro's decade long run. read more

I recently hosted my birthday at Salazar. I had very specific requirements in mind and I worked with management to make my dream party come to life. It was so easy to work with management. Responses were timely and the contract was easy to understand. My party was in the back room of the first floor. The neon "drink tequila daily" sign made for great photo ops and IG posts The night of my bday, I arrived early to meet the bartender serving to my party. I've been looking for a new taco spot recently and saw some really great reviews for Salazar so thought let's try it! We ordered the Chimichurri Steak, Mango Shrimp and Crispy Pork Belly. Honestly it wasn't horrible but nothing to be excited about. The steak was very under seasoned , the pork was pretty over cooked and more burnt than crispy and the shrimp was just ok. Such a fun brunch. Made a reservation for 15 for my bday brunch. We were sat on the rooftop and had a blast. Service-Anthony and Lynette were fantastic. Always had water, refilling our bottomless mimosas, and helping clear plates and cups. They were professional, attentive, and super friendly. Drinks- the variety of bottomless options is huge. Mimosas, Bloody Mary, margarita, and beer. They also have an array of soda and juices for the non drinkers. Food- we got salad, tacos, quesadillas, steak and eggs, guac, Mexican corn, and chips/salsa. All the food was good portion sizes and super flavorful. Bell- love the ice shots and throwing it at the bell. A fun addition and nice gimmick on the rooftop. Super creative. What a vibe. This place is great in and out from the food to the drinks to the area where you can throw shotglasses (made of ice) at a bell. I don't even know where to start on this review because I really enjoyed it all. I haven't had tacos in the DMV because I was terrified they wouldn't be the same quality as the authentic places I had to dig to find in other cities. The chips and salsa at $3 made even Chipotle shake. The chips were freshly made and the salsa was not the typical salsa one would be used to, it tasted much more fresh, light, and less heavy on the tomato. The chips and salsa were so good I ordered another round of them. Additionally, service was pretty fast which I appreciated. The rooftop music also had some nice reggaetón and Spanish hits which was a nice refresh from other bar music in the city. My friend and I booked our joint birthday party at Salazar's kitchen back bar and had such a fantastic time! We were shocked by how straightforward and simple the whole booking process was; we just emailed them with a few details and they responded that they were happy to have us, and that the only requirement was to bring a fun group :) They were very flexible about the # of people arriving, staying longer than initially scheduled, etc. It's hard to believe that a bar/club as popular as Salazar in DC has no minimum fee to reserve a room for an event - I haven't heard of any other place offering this. We feel like we truly lucked out and it was definitely a major factor in us deciding to book here! Highly recommend to anyone for their event space needs. The kitchen back bar was great - lively yet quiet enough to have conversations, and had AC - but if our event hadn't been in the middle of summer we would have probably opted for the rooftop bell room to hear the DJ more and have the bell challenge right there! We ordered a cheese quesadilla and nachos and both were pretty decent. It's owned by the same people that run mission so essentially the same food and drink. This was a great place to host a birthday event. The event contact was very responsive and helpful in confirming the reservation. It was convenient to be able to have each of my guests on separate tabs with no minimum food or drink order. Additionally, they were able to order food if they got hungry as the night went on. It was also nice to be able to bring my own decorations and cake. My event was on the first floor where we had our own bartender and there were bathrooms nearby.
