The California food snob in me is gobsmacked that this chain started in Arizona when it seems like such a cliched Californian concept. Salad served up in a drive-thru window sounds like a joke Woody Allen would have made up in "Annie Hall". There are at least a dozen of these places in the Phoenix area, and when I passed by the first one I had ever seen, I became puzzled as to how good and fresh the salad could be in a fast food operation like that. The answer turned out to be 'Pretty good and darn fresh'. I didn't actually drive through but walked up, so I could study the ten salad bowls and four additional wraps they offered. No surprise that I went with the reasonably priced $5.74 Asian Salad. It consisted of organic spinach, romaine lettuce, organic carrots, red cabbage, edamame, pineapple chunks, crushed peanuts, and green onions. I went for adding teriyaki chicken pieces for an extra $1.44. With a generous container of Asian vinaigrette on the side, it amounted to just 370 calories (photo: http://bit.ly/2DObyPo). It was all quite fresh, nothing like those plastic packaged salads McDonalds used to carry from days of yore for yo mama. Here's hoping Salad and Go makes it to Northern California next year. Missing items continually even when ordering through the app. No discount, communication, etc. I have contacted the company multiple times. They were not special requests. They were stand, substantive items. I ordered the Cobb salad and it comes with avocado and a hard boiled egg. It's always hit or miss. If they are out, it should be discounted. read more

On multiple occasions I've ordered using the online app and received the wrong ingredients on my salad and/or no dressing in the container. I'm not sure if this is due to carelessness or if they're just substituting ingredients when they don't have what I order. Either way, it's a frustrating customer experience. This was my first time going to this healthy restaurant. As I reached the drive thru, I immediately saw a sign with their seasonal specials. Ahead of me there was the drive thru menu with salads, wraps, soups and smoothies listed with bright, colorful pictures, descriptions and prices. I ordered the Cesar salad and a protein to go on it. I ordered the shrimp and they don't scrimp here--there was plenty of shrimp on my salad and the Cesar dressing was fresh and not overwhelming when I ate it at work. The young man at the drive thru window was friendly, efficient and I didn't have to wait he already had my order ready to hand to me once I paid for it. I love Salad and Go! I eat there at least three times a week but I go to the one off of Union Hills, and the one on Northern. Never ever a problem. I went to this one on Pinnacle Peak, the light was still on, cars in the drive through and it showed it was open for ten minutes. Long story short they turned on the closed recording and we were stuck. By the time we got to the window, still not showing closed online, they not only wouldn't at least open it and say sorry we closed early, they started laughing. I took a picture of the kid by the window because I was shocked and thought it was so strange. I have eaten at Salad and Go for years, but I won't go back to this one. I'm not sure what is going on at this location; however, I've gone three separate times, ordered exactly the same two salads and each time my price was different. When I reviewed my receipts, I noticed that I was once charged extra for extra dressing and the highest price receipt, I was charged extra not for the extra dressing, but for one salad having chicken and tofu. If you're in a hurry or have limited lunch time pick someplace else! This location is consistently 10-15 minutes past pick up times, will serve the entire drive thru before a walk up and any changes to a salad seem to be hit or miss. Good quality is decent and fresh, portions are decent but prompt service is not a priority for this location. So I love this place and yes all drinks $1 is a deal. The other incredible deal is breakfast burritos for $2.99, BUT there's a catch... be there before 10:30am (way before in case there's a huge line to order) on weekdays and 11am weekends. You can also order them on the app, but per the restaurant, they won't show up unless you pick the right breakfast hours (note to self). I also love the lemonades and teas. As usual it was great experience. I visited the Power Road and Broadway location in Mesa again today. I placed my order online, walked up to the window to pick it up a few minutes early and it was ready and exactly as I expected. The person answering the window (sorry I did not get her name) was very polite, told me to have a great day. We will continue to return. My husband is not one to "enjoy" salads, but even recommends going to Salad and Go. Thank you for everything. We should understand how busy the locations are as we see the lines in the drive thru and walk up windows, but apparently some of us don't get it. read more

What a neat concept! I wish I had something like this where I live (Washington state). This reminds me of the quick eateries in Japan where you order and pay beforehand via a machine and wait for your food to arrive, ready to eat. The servings are hefty and with a great price! You can customize your salad or pick from pre-made styles. All this is accomplished via a tablet outside the building. Fast service, fresh ingredients, great selection, and great prices. I should mention that a select few have been known to experience weirdness with certain credit cards, the first time I went here, my card thought it was a fraudulent charge until I had it rectified. I was intrigued by the concept and the shop was right in front of my hotel. I pulled in on the wrong side and could see there was a line in the drive thru but I circled around and the line was considerably shorter. The prices are great and the portions are generous. They don't skimp on the chicken or blue cheese on the Cobb salad! Some of the tomatoes were overripe and the avocado was hard but that happens. I didn't see the instructions on the lid to shake the salad until I was finished but it was tasty eating my way through the toppings too!! Overall I was very pleased. Good prices. Good portions. Loved their whole concept and the food was also great! I had a Santa Fe salad with tofu and my friends both had greek with chicken. I thought mine was great and I love the orange containers. I think you could easily re-use them, too. I typically love this place. The food, the service, the fact that they're trying to be environmentally responsible. However, my salad today looked terrible. I got some slimy and wilted lettuce, my green onions were severely bruised, and the shrimp was shredded and slimy. This isn't typical of this location, at least not to my knowledge. But this salad was very unappealing. Update: the salad was awful. I am actually really shocked it's as bad as it is. This place used to have some of the freshest and most tasty salads. This had to have been the saddest. Mushy avocado, mushy slimy shrimp, wilted lettuce, it was not good in the slightest. Salad and go never disappoints me. I try to make it here at least twice a month if not more because it is so fantastic. My favorite is the Greek salad(no dairy) with balsamic or the sweet potato and strawberry. The flavor combinations and easily customizable menu make this place one of my favorites. They're reasonably priced for what you get. I've compared prices at some other salad places and paid $11 just for a 20oz steak salad. I went to salad and go and paid $14 for a 40 oz chicken salad and a lemonade. The prices alone are a reason to come here. $5.74 for a large salad? Where else can you get that? Nowhere that I know of. I've never really had a problem with the customer service other than getting a regular lemonade instead of a seasonal one - which is easily fixable. I decided to drop by at the wee hours of 630am today and try their farmhouse bowl (dairy free) and it I hadn't even finished it before I knew I wanted another one. The smell is intoxicating, and I'm sure cheese and some salsa verde would make this even better. I recommend getting it while you can since it is a seasonal item. Which is another thing I love about this place! Seasonal items -I love to try their lemonades and salads. Having something new on the menus ever few months keeps me interested and excited to try them. Anyway this review is long enough and I could go on forever about this place.
