This is a very small restaurant for dine in, mostly for take out's, but the food is excellent and prices are so reasonable with big portions. Their sushi boats are huge and cheap. Service is excellent too. Highly recommend this place. read more

This is one of a sushi shop located in Ocean Park. They don't have online order but once you called and ordered, it is ready for pickup in 15 min. I ordered a sushi Combo Sukuya B for take out to try this place. It was surprisingly fresh and well made. Price is totally reasonable and it is a great idea to get a box and go down to the White Rock Waterfront to enjoy a nice day out. read more

Had sushi from here at a dinner party in December of 22 so came to their location on 1/30/23 and boy they did not disappoint. Service was wonderful, very kind woman working the tables and was helpful with any questions we had. Our daughter ordered a bento box with beef and loved every bit of it, my wife and I shared Dynamite, Fire Cracker, Tropical and Naiagara Rolls. The food was terrible in terms of quality of ingredients and cooking capability. I came here out of curiosity and it was a huge mistake. Tempura shrimp seemed to be the cheapest junky premade frozen low quality product available. There was hardly any trace of shrimp beyond a sliver strand of shrimp I would almost need a magnifying glass to see. The rest was heavily dried out poor quality breading. It's an embarrassment to the cuisine and disrespect to customers to serve such crap food not worthy to be served in any respectable restaurant. Next, chicken"Brest" teriyaki with the quotes reflecting how it showed up on the bill. Outright terrible. The meat was super dried out, gristly, and flavorless. I'm pretty confident it was deep fried as a total lazy way to cook, maybe pre frozen as well. It was served on top of vegetables not drained and wet soaking in a pool of water and maybe a little grease. The teriyaki sauce very little drizzled was a total train wreck. Very salty and not sweet at all. Totally out of balance and ridiculously poorly made. I couldn't eat very much because the dish was garbage. Before any food arrived, I asked if they made their own gyoza from scratch homemade, and received an initial dishonest answer yes. Upon further questioning like do you roll the dumplings yourself, the answer was changed to I actually get it from a friend, and then I was discouraged from ordering it suspecting I would be disappointed. I would bet that the friend is the same kind of low budget commercial food stores and factories that the other poor excuse for restaurant food came from. Salad was edible except for some small black decayed parts of the radish that were missed and not cut away. Miso soup was edible but hardly with anything detectable in it. When I shared my disappointment about the food, I was told it's like what some other restaurants around here use. I replied that is why I don't go to them and why I won't go back there. I explained I don't go out to eat cheap low quality food worse that what I would make at home, and I would gladly pay a little more for quality food. I hope this restaurant and all others like it go out of business. Japanese cuisine is one of the most artful and wonderful dining experiences, but it is a tragedy that restaurants like this lower it to such a terrible travesty. Besides the dishonesty and lack of ownership of issues, service was the best aspect of the experience as it was efficient. I guess when garbage food is slung to customers it doesn't take much time to prepare. Walking into the small restaurant which seemed mostly set up for takeout, the floors were soaking in liquid maybe tracked in from takeout customers coming from the snow outside. I cashed the joint out and decided I wouldn't order sushi in a place like this, made in some hidden back room, in a million years. At the end of the meal, after giving feedback, there was a small token discount given, but it couldn't even come close to undoing the injustice of this lousy meal. read more

Without a doubt some of the worst sushi I have ever eaten! Having tried this place 10 or so years ago and remembering it to be reasonable, my husband and I decided to order sushi for dinner. HUGE mistake! The rolls were huge with each piece being far too big for one mouthful. The rice was overcooked, extremely starchy and tasteless and the fillings were no better - huge lumps of fake crab beside huge balls of ground fake crab. The spider roll had no fried spider crabs in them at all from what I could see or taste. The tuna tataki had the consistency of cardboard and very little taste. The chicken karaage was deep fried to a tough and tasteless (unless you count the taste of oil) mass and the goma ae was smothered in a sauce more suited to ice cream or dessert. If I could rate with negative stars, I would definitely do so. read more

This is my favourite sushi place in all of white rock/south surrey! The sashimi is always super fresh, tuna always buttery and melts right in your mouth. I find most sushi places in south Surrey area have very tough nori, and I'm happy to say that Sakuya's is always tender and allows you to bite right in. We always order party tray A, which has a great assortment of rolls, both vegetarian and pescatarian. Very cheap prices and very quick to pick up! Family run, and you can tell by the quality. Would recommend to anyone looking for a new sushi spot! read more

Have gone there quite a bit, and although the food is good, I am not super happy with the service. I am gluten free. So I always have to ask for gluten free soy sauce. They sparingly give me 2. Wow... That's gets me far. So within 5 min, I have to ask for more. So I get 2 more. Would like to start off with 6' Why they do just have it in containers like other restaurants do. We do not make this as our first choice anymore, even though we can walk to it. read more

i am *really* glad a Sushi place finally opened in this neighborhood, my last wishbone wish was either a Tim's or a Wendy's but did not expect a sushi bar! cozy interior (very Japanese) max seating is around 25 people. I ate mostly rolls and nigiri, good product, prices are what you would expect for south surrey/white rock, (slightly more than i would pay for the same in Vancouver) looking forward to trying their lunch bento's, I would love to see them have a "happy hour" or late night special. Pretty typical small sushi place. First of all there is nothing wrong with the rice. I think someone just hasn't eaten at enough small places. Food fresh. I did the typical first time things, Miso, ebi sunomo. Both good and tasted exactly as I would expect. The tea was hot and better than most small places, hence the four star, when they realized I am sitting for awhile they brought me a pot. I had the dynamite combo. A bit big on the size IMHO but that's a personal matter. In short, exactly what I expected for a small sushi place outside a major city. And I can say without a doubt that it beats the hell out of the mall sushi at semiahmoo that I've had the last three weeks. So I will definitely be back. read more

I have ordered out and eaten in at Sakuya. The fish is always fresh and service is fast. This place gets quite busy around dinner time so you might find yourself standing to wait for a table. I recommend going before 5:30 or after 7 to guarantee a spot if you plan on dining in. Prices are reasonable. Hope this local business is here to stay in Ocean Park! read more
