We had lunch at Sajj in Sunnyvale for the first time. They are located in downtown Sunnyvale. My experience here was not the best compared to the location I went to, in downtown San Jose. When we walked in, there were only a few customers inside eating. There are in a large open space with plenty of tables for dining inside. We approached the counter to look at the menu. We were greeted by an employee before placing our order. I decided to go with the doner kebab wrap and my husband ordered the steak shawarma wrap. We picked our topping while our wrap was being built. All the veggie ingredients looked very fresh. The wraps also came with a cup of lentil soup. We paid and found a table to sit at. My husband's steak shawarma was very good. He really liked the flavors and the steak. He got tahini on the side and a peri peri hot sauce. He liked both. The lentil soup was good. My sandwich was not good. The doner kebab meat was very dry and hard like jerky. This meat was not freshly made. It's as if it had been sitting there way too long and was just getting reheated all day. It was hard to chew and swallow. I was so disappointed with the quality of the meat. This was the complete opposite experience I had at the location on Coleman in San Jose. Their doner kebab was soft and moist. I will most likely not come back to this location again. I went up to the counter to let an employee know, the quality of the doner kebab was not good and should not be served to customers. I just got a blank stare from the employee, like he didn't know what to do or he didn't really care. To me, that's just bad customer service and terrible that they would be okay with serving old dried up meat like that, putting customers health at risk of getting sick. This is Mediterranean version of chipotle, with healthier ingredients and more flavors. I love the bowl. The meat choices are good. Tried the Doner Kebab and it's soft and easy to chew. It goes well with the garlic sauce and tzatziki dressing, plus the other sides and mix ins. The eggplant is good. There's salad, olives, pickles, onions and other add ons to choose from. Once you got everything in, it's so flavorful and enjoyable to eat. Service was fast at this store during a Sunday afternoon perhaps because there were less people. This place must be busier during weekday lunch hour. Ambiance is nice and relaxed. I'm glad we have this option for Mediterranean food place. This is gonna be one of my go to places. read more

This place is best described as being like Chipotle for mediterranean food. You walk down assembly line and decide which sides / proteins you want in your order. I opted for the steak shawarma in a salad bowl and my wife ordered a similar salad bowl but opted for chicken. I wasn't the biggest fan of the seasoning on the shawarma, and preferred the chicken when I took a bite of the other bowl. But it's still super great. The portions are super big and I'm sure many people could turn a single bowl into 2 meals. They also add a small lentil soup on the side which is really nice. Ordered the pomegranate chicken bowl. It similar to the chipotle concept where you can opt for as many or as little things. I opted in for every single item there (except multiple meats, of course) It comes on a bed of turmeric rice and mixed greens. Got both egg plant and sumac cauliflower as the hot toppings ( these were the highlights- buth are exceptionally yummy). Then the tzatziki, hummus and garlic spread. Then tomato/cucumber mix, garbanzo beans, diced beets, sumac onions, pickles and cabbage, cherry peppers. Added the mint sauce and spicy tahini sauce. When you order in store, it comes with a bowl of lentil soup. The bowl easily lasts for 2 meals for me. And all this for $16 including taxes! read more

I'm not going to knock off a star because of that format... meats are cooked well and are flavorful. My chicken Shawarma bowl was super flavorful and hit the spot today. The manager and staff here were all super nice. I also ordered a side of Falafel to go and they were scooped, fried, and served with a side of sauce. 6 for $4.95! If you know falafel, this place is gooooood. Large sized ball, Light and crisp on the outside moist on the inside. This place can go toe to toe with the other iconic falafel places around town! This place is clean, has high ceilings, and a trendy feel. Not too many tables for indoor seating. I saw many people order and take their food away. If you know this area of Sunnyvale near Murphy Street, you know that parking can be challenging during certain meal times. Portions were great and I got everything except toppings with extra charge. I enjoyed all the ingredients and they seemed fresh! The soup on the side wasn't anything special but it was still nice to know they serve something warm on the side. There was just one other customer when we came for lunch, so service was attentive and friendly. However, we did notice quite a bit of to-go orders ready to be picked up on their shelves. The interior was very clean and quite with music in the background. You grab your own utensils and drink on the side. There are also plenty of seating and the place is quite spacious. Parking is just right across the street so it is convenient but I do know that this parking lot can get full quickly depending on the time of day. I had lunch at Sajj Mediteranean-145 S Frances St, Sunnyvale, CA 94086 This was the first time ever eating at a place like this. I also liked that it was in walking distance from the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station. Parking was a bit challenging as there was an art and wine festival going on, but with perseverance, they are available. Walking into the spotlessly clean restaurant, the first thing I noticed was a pictural on the wall showing that everything was locally sourced (see photo). Walking up to a serving table of vegetables, salads, rice, advocado (slight extra charge), and other items, I decided to build a bowl to sample pretty much everything. The young lady at the serving table was excellent. She was polite and courteous. She answered all my questions. Her appearance was clean and professional, as were the other employees. The ambiance was family oriented. During my visit, SAJj was very busy. There were families, couples, and individuals sitting at the nice tables. Everything I tried was fresh and deliciously prepared. The tzatziki sauce was the best I ever tasted, along with the hummus. Each order comes with a great tasting soup. My final recommendation is the house made lemonade and other drinks. Sajj is essentially to Mediterranean what Chipotle is to Mexican, except better. They take core ingredients of Mediterranean fare and deconstruct and reconstruct into a bowl, a salad, a wrap, a platter, etc. you choose what components you want to add and in what delivery mechanism. Everything is fresh and tasty. I wish they had some more options for meat (such as lamb), but what they have is already tasty. I particularly like either the chicken pomegranate or steak shawarma. Prices are good; you get a lot of value in that bowl. It also feels healthy. read more
