This local restaurant is tucked away in a business development area but worth the trip. The aloha here is very welcoming. They are friendly. Lines can get long here and when that happens, expect a little wait. It's a small place with just a few tables. The Mac salad here is amazing. It's got a hint of tuna in it which I love and it's creamy but not too heavy. I always orders it by the lb to go. That's how much we love it. The other food is just as good. They really deliver on flavor and portions and quality here.
Stopped in for a quick lunch before heading to the mountains. The teriyaki chicken was cooked well, but the rice was pretty dry and the mac salad didn't have much flavor. The space gets crowded fast, so it's better suited for takeout than dining in.
It's been a really really really long time since I been back here and I regret not coming here more often. It's a small place with a couple of seatings (not big) and feels a little cramped. You order at the counter and pay and food will come out. They are located in a isolated area so you probably need to look for it and know about it. There's two businesses here, but same owner. Saimin is Hawaiian food whole mas pika is fusion. We ordered: Oxtail saimin: good flavor, oxtail was tender, broth was light yet flavorful. I like that it comes with a few veggies. Fiesta plate: 2 protein (brisket and pork belly) with rice, Mac salad, and pickle veggies --- this would have been really good if the brisket was not so tough. It was like jerky style and too tough, especially when it's cut really thick like that. Flavor was good though. My favorite thing was the rice. It was a red rice and soft and flavorful. Pork belly was crispy. Portions was good for the price. People are really nice. Definitely a place to go if you want homey food

The oxtail was incredibly tender, falling right off the bone, and the broth was so comforting and heart-warming. The place has limited seating, but there's plenty of parking right in front. Service was very friendly, and they offer a wide variety of options. Highly recommend.
SUCH a cute name! So glad we were able to give it a try on our recent WA trip. It's a quaint, no-frills spot tucked in an industrial/warehouse area. The mochiko chicken was crispy and juicy, and the kalbi was flavorful without being too sweet (huge plus). Mac salad was good. Portions were generous and food is cooked to order. Friendly service, ample parking, and they close kinda early so plan to come earlier in the day. Definitely worth the stop if you're craving Hawaiian comfort food!

Chicken katsu was a little bland, which I think is normal honestly, so I wish they had tonkatsu sauce to eat with it. They do have other sauces like hot sauce and ketchup on the counter. Garlic chicken was juicy. We also got the kahlua loco moco, that was similarly great, a little salty. Hurricane fries were delicious. Crispy, fluffy, and well seasoned with what I think is spicy mayo and furikake. Overall paid about $42. Come with cash as card will have a 3.5% processing charge! Service was good. Lady at the front took our order promptly. The place itself is small. 1 table that fits 6 and about 5 tables that fit 2-3. Saw lots of to-go orders. I would love to try their pancakes and other plate items next time. Would definitely come back!
Thank you, Yelpers, for steering me to Saimin Says! My hubs and I were going to Ikea around lunchtime on a Tuesday afternoon and knew we didn't want to eat there. So I jumped on Yelp and found this place. The place is small and tucked into a non-descript industrial-like strip mall. But what they don't have in ambiance, they make up for in the food. My mochiko chicken was crispy and delicious. My hubs's shoyu chicken was savory and tasty. We both thought the tuna mac was some of the best macaroni salad we've ever had. We both ate half our lunches, sampled each other's lunches, and still had a decent amount to take home that later became part of our dinner. As the Hawaiians say, this place has 'ono grindz! Next time we have a shopping trip at Ikea, we will make sure to come back to Saimin Says.

We got the fried saimin and garlic chicken plate - so good! Will definitely be back soon!

I went here for a lunch and it was not busy inside. Most people come for pick up orders, but I opted to dine in. I got the garlic chicken rice and the spam katsu musubi, totaling close to $20. Food came out decently fast, about 10 minutes, and a powerful smell of garlic seeped to my nose, in a good way - I was excited to try the dish! The garlic chicken is a mochiko chicken with garlic, and it was quite flavorful. Just the garlic chicken dish itself filled me up, so it was good value. There's a good amount of rice and Mac salad, and it's not just any kind of Mac salad. It's Mac salad with tuna, adding a bit more flavor to it. The chicken itself is alright though - it's a bit dry and super salty. It helps with the rice but I wouldn't enjoy it in itself. The spam katsu musubi is a heartier take on the spam musubi. Instead of a teriyaki sauce, it's a katsu sauce so the flavor profile is a bit different. It's interesting and I enjoyed it but I would stick with the typical spam musubi next time. Overall, good food for decent prices. Recommend paying in cash as there is a hefty 3.5% surcharge for all card transactions. Unless you use something like Amex gold, it's worth it to just pay in cash.
I have been going here for many years. The current location is much smaller than it used to be. They are very efficient with space but the seating is only for 20 or less dine in customers. The customer is friendly. The menu selection is diverse and of course Spam Musubi. They serve breakfast and lunch only. If you are at Ikea shopping, this place is near by and is a great place to eat.
Wow! Food was excellent. What stole the show for me was the macaroni salad with tuna in it. Kalbi was awesome, good sweetness, and char to it. The soy chicken was also amazing. Super homemade taste, chicken fell off the bone. The garlic chicken was also very tasty and tender. Good chunky pieces. All it is, is their Mochiko chicken dip and garlic sauce, bomb! The Katsu cutlet was OK. The gravy was good, but if I ever go back to this place when I visit Seattle, I'll try their regular Katsu. I'm sure they have a bomb Katsu sauce. The service was great and they were very helpful in suggesting the top items. It is a little hole in the wall, seating is limited, but it looks like it's more of a takeout restaurant.

This was my first visit to Saimin Says and I will be back for sure. Super convenient location close to the on ramp to State Route 167 and just down the street from IKEA. You'll just have to remember that the location is part of the complex of off-white office buildings. Just look for unit# 269 right off S. 41st (you can see it from the street). Now onto the food.... I ordered the Shoyu Chicken and the Mochiko Chicken combo which comes with white rice and their Mahi Mahi Salad which was so nice and creamy. Everything was very flavorful, portion size was good and presentation was nice. The owner had just made fresh malasadas so I ordered a couple chocolate ones -- so good! Fluffy goodness! Haha! I plan to try the other flavors on my next visit! There is some seating inside but had to get back to work so took my order to go. They have two menu "binders" with photos and descriptions. I had fun looking at all of the entrees, sides and desserts and planning which ones I'll try next! I would definitely recommend them for your Hawaiian and fusion cravings whenever you're in the Renton area. They do catering as well so if you need some tasty, comfort foods for a party or event - it sounds like they would be a great option! read more

Visited for lunch. Ordered the garlic and shoyu chicken with rice and tuna mac. I also ordered a side of pork belly bites. Both styles of chicken were good but the pork belly bites did not taste fresh. Hubby got chicken stir fry and although he said it was tasty, he said the chicken wasn't cooked through. All in all, the lady who took our order was very pleasant and the establishment was clean. Would visit again and try other items. read more

My partner had a medical appointment nearby and since we don't often trek to Renton, we figured we should grab a bite to eat before making our way back north. Thus, we found Saimin Says, which was solid. Saimin Says is a Hawaiian eatery, serving all the classic dishes and they even featured some Guam specials. Located in a business strip, the space is on the smaller end for dining in, but they do have tables and chairs set up for such an occasion. And we did notice that most people who were here were getting takeout during the prime lunch hour on a weekday. The menu had a lot to choose from. But as soon as I saw that they had kalua pork loco moco, two of my favorite Hawaiian dishes, I had to get it. The kalua pork was tender and had a smoky flavor to it, and it was delicious on a bed of rice, topped with beef gravy and fried eggs, with that runny yolk. To balance it all out, I added some hot sauce for some kick, which was the way to go. It was a very good dish that did not disappoint. We don't often get Hawaiian food, but eating at Saimin Says made me miss it. If I'm back in the area, I'll have to try their actual namesake, the saimin, which I imagine is comfort food, like any noodle soup dish should be. Glad to have discovered this spot. read more

Stopped by Saiman Says for a quick bite, and overall, it was a solid experience. I tried the mochiko chicken and garlic chicken. The mochiko was decent, though nothing that stood out too much. As for the garlic chicken, I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet (a big plus), but I wish it had more bold, garlicky flavor. The spot seems like a classic mom-and-pop shop with a laid-back vibe, which I love supporting. While it didn't completely wow me, the food was decent, and I'd definitely give it another shot to try some other items on the menu. Hopefully next time I can find something that has a tad bit more flavor. read more
Have been to the Kent location with my brother and dad years ago. When brother told me they were in Renton now and they had been to make sure and check them out. My sister in law is from Hawaii so I trust her judgment on Hawaiian places. Her favorite dish is the Garlic Chicken which is their mochiko chicken but amped up. Was tasty with chopped bits of jalapeños. Chicken was tender inside and crispy outside. Dad got the katsu curry chicken was also cooked perfectly. Each came with a generous scoop of rice and mac salad. I'm not usually a fan of mac salads but theirs had great flavor with the added tuna. Friendly staff, not a large space but welcoming. It was nice to see they had a steady stream of customers dining in and for take out around 1:30 on a Saturday. They're not open on Sundays just an fyi it's why it took me so long to give them a try. Located amongst a bunch of businesses can almost be easily overlooked if you don't they're there but parking easily available. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. They have another restaurant as will inside that I'd like to try some items off of as well. read more
I wanted some spam musubi. This place has multiple options for spam musubi, and I ordered 2 different types (katsu and original) but received spicy, regular, and katsu. The regular spam musubi and the spicy spam musubi were well seasoned. I liked the spicy spam. The katsu was okay, but I'd recommend sticking with the original. I also snagged some malasadas that they had for sale that day. I regretted buying them almost immediately because they didn't look like they would be fresh, but they tasted awesome! Very dense, very tasty, a little on the oily side. They reminded me of elephant ears from the fair. Prices are affordable. read more

Tucked away in a Renton office complex is a tiny slice of home for local transplants from Hawaii. It's much smaller than their old location but the food is just as good as before. I ordered a spam musubi and combo plate lunch with kalua pig and cabbage/mochiko chicken. I LOVE the mochiko chicken here. Super crispy bites and has the most delicious slight sweet umami flavor. There was more than what they gave in the pic but I started eating before taking a pic cus I was too hungry. The kalua pig and cabbage here is very good to me also. I will say it's got more pepper than any other kalua pig I've had anywhere. I still enjoyed it but was something unique about their pork. For the price of this a musubi and water it's a really good deal for the cost. Friendly service from the aunty at the front and the food comes out fairly quick! read more
I was really craving some saimin while we were driving back from Seattle and found this place on the maps. It didn't disappoint! The taste is authentic but I gave it 4/5 because the restaurant was hard to eat in due to small area they had for tables. There was also just one high chair and we did use it but the family that came in after us also had a small child and had to hold her in their lap. I felt a bit bad. Also, they had put everything in to go containers even though we were eating there so eating my yummy saimin out of a styrofoam container with disposable chopsticks were not ideal. The ribs were tasty and my son loved the fried saimin! I would come back again to grab takeout for sure! read more
Attention oxtail lovers! The oxtail saimin here is legit. It's got the taste of Hawaii saimin in it and I was very impressed. They have a huge menu of Hawaii food favorites like lau lau, Kalua pig, mochiko chicken, garlic chicken. They have breakfast food. Imua breakfast! They had some malasadas too. Saimin Says is this small Hawaiian place tucked away in this industrial plaza, not too far from Ikea. They have this amazing menu and they serve up delicious Hawaiian food. I've had the mochiko chicken and their saimin and their musubi and everything is so good and tastes just like the food on the islands. The mochiko chicken is fried up perfectly and the meat is so tender. Their mac salad tastes a little different - there might be tuna in it or something, not too sure. It's good though! And the saimin noodles are chewy and are perfect for cold rainy days (which there are a lot of in seattle lol). They also have an assortment of Hawaiian sun drinks too. My favorite part of Saimin Says is the lady who takes the orders. She's super nice and always makes me feel welcome when I come in. Mahalo!!! read more

We were too hungry to take pics of all our food but all I can say is this place makes the best loco Moco and Mac salad and mochiko chicken I ever had in a long time coming from living in Hawaii all my life to moving to the mainland It's hard to find food that's close to how Hawaii makes them this place is the bomb you have to eat here if you miss Hawaii local grinds but you live in the mainland read more
