This is the only full fledged Vietnamese restaurant in the area I've made a return visit to so far. I've tried pho at at least five Modesto restaurants and Saigon Restaurant serves the only acceptable one for me. iPho's broth was incredibly sweet, too sweet. Crawfish too sweet. Phoenix Noodle house near downtown is also too sweet. I guess I should have listened to the few Vietnamese people in town that I met that said that Saigon is the only okay Vietnamese restaurant around. They were super nice when I called to ask if I had left my sweater behind. When I showed up, a guy immediately came outside the restaurant to give it to me (before I could even go back inside to retrieve it). I have yet to try other dishes, but so far the pho is fine. Other bay area pho places beat this place for sure but I guess that is to be expected. If you've had pho several times, then I would suggest asking for the sliced pho tai meat to be served raw on a plate on the side. I like to wait a minute or two before adding the raw beef to the bowl. I feel like this really improves the texture and taste of the meat inside the soup. This way, the beef is not overcooked and is not too tough. The smoothie with boba I ordered here was noticeably different than other smoothies I've gotten from other nearby boba shops. I think the boba/pearls themselves were not sweetened with sugar. The pearls had an excellent texture. They were not overly soft and had a very springy/bouncy texture to them. Service is as expected. We haven't been in a while but decided to make a stop on our way home from Pinecrest. The girls got pho and I chow fun with gravy. Ordered take away today for my husband and myself looking forward to supporting local business and eating a rare treat as we love Vietnamese food. Saigon had always been on the list of local places to try out so, it was very disappointing to be served spoiled food. We ordered a vermicelli dish that had egg roll, beef and shrimp. Upon opening Styrofoam container the smell of spoiled seafood wafted out, they were so smelly that it was bizarre the cook did not notice they were serving expired food. I am just glad I could smell the food was unsuitable to consume or had I not realized I definitely could have gotten sick or food poising. On a positive note: It was easy enough to remove from the rest of the dish I ordered thank goodness and I did enjoy trying the rest of the dish, but overall I will say, I am not going to be recommending or returning back to get food from Saigon. I understand this is a difficult time for small business and they may be struggling, but at what cost do you cut corners and serve spoiled food to your patrons? Sick and tired of these kind of places acting as if we owe them money before we even walk through the door. My wife orders shrimp chow mein and told him specifically she didn't want the chicken chow mein cuz she's vegetarian. So he brings chicken chow mein and she told him kindly "I ordered shrimp, remember?" If i could have given 0 stars that would have been appropriate. My sister and I ordered 7 orders of Chow Fung to go due to covid. We called the order in to pick it up and have lunch with our mom. ON POINT! To satisfy our 'pho' craving my family has come begun coming to this place for just this purpose. In all the times we have been here during Lunch hour, dinner rush and even the random slow days, we have experienced only #1 AWESOME service. Pretty good little Vietnamese spot in Modesto. Prices are moderate and servings are healthy. This last visit I got a medium pho #1 with everything in it. Very filling and delicious. I was in the restaurant alone so from the time I ordered till I got my food was only about 5 mins which is awesome on a 30min lunch. Other things that are pretty good are the chicken wings, grilled pork with vermicelli noodles and tofu rice dish. Staff and friendly and attentive. Cash only is you don't exceed a bill over $15. The pho cost me about $10 after tip and tax. I frequently come back to this place as it's close to my job sites and my stomach is never upset after eating here. This place is really close to my apartment, so I was excited to try it out. It's a pretty standard Vietnamese restaurant, nothing fancy. It looked clean and we were attended to as soon as we walked in. The waitress brought us two glasses of water with the menus and gave us time to see what they had to offer. My husband and I both ordered the Vermicelli bowl with beef. We also ordered spring rolls with pork and shrimp and an order of crispy egg rolls. I opted for an iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk and my husband got the Thai tea with boba. The appetizers came out quickly. The crispy egg rolls were smaller than average but they give you five of them. They were very good, but the accoutrements of lettuce leaves and mint were very sparse. Not enough lettuce leaves to wrap the rolls. The spring rolls were okay, very light on pork and mint and very heavy on the rice noodles and lettuce. There wasn't any cucumber or basil. The peanut sauce was awesome, though. The vermicelli bowls were okay, these seemed to be really light on the veggies and herbs as well. There was a lot of grilled beef in them though. It was wrapped around green onions, making it a little tough to eat. The Thai tea was good, as was the iced coffee. I was disappointed that the coffee came pre-made in a take out cup. I am used to it being brewed into the cup at the table. The service was good, I didn't experience any of the negativity reported in other reviews. Next time I think I'll try the pho. Only giving it 3 stars because their health practices is not to be desire in both places. They have 2 places one on Carpenter Rd & Oakdale Rd. Just ate yesterday the one on Carpenter, Saigon One, I noticed the server when he was placing the menu back in the rack, the one I was just using, he bent down place the menu with his hand then kicked it to push it all the way in place with his shoes. One in Oakdale Rd., I observed in the past, the server uses their bare hands to put together the plastic utensils and napkin together and this is for order to go. Makes me wonder if they do the same for the dine-in utensils? What really concerns me is, during both incidents, the owner was there. Maybe, someone has to tell owner or train him some healthy practices when working with food. These things you tend to ignore because their food are delicious. Grilled Pork Spring Rolls is a favorite of bestie, and I thought it was ok. The pork tasted like vegetarian meat to me and the spring roll itself was alright, but the peanut dipping sauce was very good. Service is quick and efficient and prices were quite cheap for what they were. A small pho was already pretty big for me. For some reason, however, my friend's bowl had more noodles (she had a #3) and I had more beef balls and less noodles. Not sure if that's just how it is or if it's because she's a regular (we both got small bowls), but whatever. It was filling even by itself.
