Coming out of SF Supermarket, I wanted something and couldn't decide since it had been so long since I was in Modesto. They seemed extremely busy, especially with DoorDash or some other delivery service. Searching the menu, I didn't see a lot of VietNamese dishes. Many of the items seemed to be Chinese. I wanted some com dia. I ended up with Tofu with Vegetables and Rice. Considering how much I pay for a bowl of rice at a Chinese shop, getting more on the plate with the tofu and vegetables was a decent value. It wasn't tasty enough that I would go back in the same week. It's more of a McDonald's or Subway kind of food where it's reliable. Service was fine for being so busy. Was in the area so decided to try this place. Tried the vermicelli bowl with beef and shrimp, fresh rolls and pho. The amount of meat served with my bowl was a small amount compared to the amount of noodles. The fresh rolls also had a lot of noodles in it. The pho was ok and could've used more flavor. So I'm a regular here at Saigon restaurant whenever I need a pho/ soup fix. This place is located in the Lakes shopping center on Oakdale road and Floyd. I usually come once or twice a month here during lunch. If I had to say what most people order is the pho or other soups besides their rice dishes. Lunch can be busy and there's always people who order for pick up. So today, I ordered the wor won ton noodle soup and a Diet Coke. You have a choice of rice noodle (vermicelli clear noodle) or the egg noodle (yellow, often same used for chow mein). I got the egg noodle and added the bean sprouts and peppers that is given prior to the soup arriving. It also has mint and a lemon but I opt not putting those. I add the plum sauce and sriracha for added flavor. I've been to a few other pho places but this one is close to my office and they know me there. Don't even need a menu and the lady already knows my usual. Now service isn't anything great. They'll take your order but won't chit chat and they aren't one to smile, etc. That's okay with me as long as the food is good and it is. Place is clean. They sometimes have the tv on if you need something to watch. One thing I want people to know is they likely put MSG in their food and their soup. Way I know is that after a meal there, I develop a headache lol. So if you don't want MSG, either ask to not add or avoid going here. For me, it's still my go to place for lunch. read more

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - #9 of Large Pho with rare steak and tendon and #15 of Bun Bo Hue which is a spicy broth with beef and pork. Decent portion with clear pho soup but it was on the sweeter side. The spicy broth was our first time trying things like that and we enjoyed the flavor but it was quite oily. Service: 3/5 - very quick service and to the point so not friendly. First time so we didn't know you just walk up and tell them the table number to pay. Unfortunately, We couldn't tell if they were talking to us or at other workers some of the times. Ambiance: 3/5 - very compact store with sticky tables and condiments. Value for price: 5/5 - just under $15 per dish after tax which seems reasonable for the area and we enjoyed the food. read more

Terrible service! Went in sat down the man brought us our menus and after that never came back to take our order or even give us water. Somebody else walked in 15 mins after us and they took his order right away and we sat there waiting and server never came so we go up and left. read more

This is a small restaurant that gets pretty packed quickly during dinner hours. Lots of parking since it's in a bigger shopping center. The food was very tasty and the portion sizes matched their prices very well. Their ice water is more like tap water so I strongly don't recommend that. I do prefer when restaurants have at least filtered water but that wasn't a big deal. The only reason why I marked them down was solely based on their customer service. Not bad service, but i feel they could have done way better. We were ready to order for a while. we made eye contact and even raised our hand so someone could take our order. Despite doing both, the worker just looked away and continued doing what they were doing. I thought maybe that wasn't that worker's role to take order, but eventually it was the same worker that finally took our order. Love their food quality and taste. Prices have been rising lately however as long as they don't keep climbing i will continue to order here. I usually order and take home but there is a small four or five table set up to eat in. The staff is friendly and prep time is fairly quick. I definitely recommend this establishment. read more

Come here regularly for the tasty food and rich broth. They are consistent with their Vietnamese dishes and have a fusion of Asian dishes. Get their #1, #36, or fried rice. saigon is usually known for good food but i was extremely shocked when the noodles tasted sour! the flavor was not good, and the texture was just mush. i couldn't even eat it. my drink was the only good part about the meal. i wasted $20 on this meal and it was not worth it at all. :( read more

I was advised to come here for their pork chop and it didn't disappoint. I got their shredded pork skin and egg roll with rice. Was a bit disappointed there was no boiled pork butt meat with the shredded pork skin. When compared to the broken rice restaurants in SJ or Sactown, it could be more flavorful such as with chicken skin, but for Modesto, this passes. I went there hoping to get a sandwich. That's all I wanted. It was pretty packed inside but not too bad. I ask the cashier lady if I can order a sandwich to go. She said "it will take 20 mins. We're busy right now. Too long." She points her finger all around the tables saying we busy it's a long wait. I don't mind waiting but the way she said it was giving - leave don't order. My parents would take my siblings and I to this restaurant at least twice or thrice a month on Sundays for lunch for as long as I could remember. This is one of those one stop restaurants that you never go back to, and so one should avoid this restaurant at all cost. I could not eat the Won Ton soup. The broth was flavorless but salty, and the dumplings were old and store-bought and not fresh. The noodles were mushy. The restaurant had a bad/stagnant smell inside, which should have been the clue to turn around and run, but I placed the order via phone The spring rolls were not freshly made. The shrimp were slimy and the meat inside was old. I spent $40, which was a waste of money and the food went straight to the trash can. The couple who run this shop appear to be honest and hard working folks. But the furnishings look 10 years overdue for an update. The food is barely passable. It's just not good. I think the kitchen is not well stocked. The menu is too big and ambitious for what they can offer. It's just another Chinese restaurant. I would pay $20 for a legit tofu banh mi on a decent baguette. Sometimes it's best to pursue a different line of work. I'm not sure Saigon should stay open. To the owners I would say: Start over doing something else. Or start over with a new restaurant. It's never to late to follow your dreams! read more
