I think Saigon One is under new ownership or they just have gotten sloppier/lazy. I always come for the same thing #45 with chicken. Its supposed to come with shrimp and an egg roll and a salad. Well to my surprise this is what I got today. Just lettuce leaves when before the lettuce was nicely chopped. Came here hoping to find some good food. There aren't many places that sell Banh mi but this restaurant does. I ordered two Bahn mi sandwiches and spring rolls. I was disappointed instantly, from the moment I got my order. The Sandwiches were tiny with barely any meat or veggies in them. Flavors were not there, just very salty. I also tried their shrimp spring rolls. I for sure thought if the Banh mi disappointed me, the spring rolls would save the day. NOPE! Just two shrimp with lettuce and noodles. The customer service was horrible! The host sat us down at a table, even though there were booths available, he didn't offer that. He just sat us down. My friend flagged down the waiter to order an appetizer. He said we are busy, ok?! So he didn't even take a drink order, or her request for an appetizer. When he finally came back, she ordered short ribs, shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, and chicken wings. She also ordered chicken and pork pho. I posted photos of all the items. The waiter must not have understood that my friend ordered short ribs, because he came to ask if calamari was ok. She tried to explain to him that she had not ordered calamari. He said they already made it, is that ok? Ummm...no! That was not what she ordered. So, the appetizer (short ribs) came out last. There was a definite language barrier, we had a hard time understanding the waiter, and he apparently did not understand us. The ambiance is nothing special. My friend remarked at how she likes the asymmetrical artwork, because their paintings are all crooked. I was not impressed, I wasn't eating. I just tagged along with my friend. However, I tried a few of the sauces and they did not taste good. I did not like the taste of the peanut sauce or the sauce that came with the chicken wings. They were just not good. What pissed me off the most was the way they treated my friend. She tends to not let things like that bother her, but it upset me. He kept freaking out when she was ordering a bunch of food. Especially when she ordered take out for her daughter. They acted like we weren't going to pay or something. They asked if it was a split check or not. I came here about 30 minutes before closing, 12/05, and they turned off the "Open" sign right in front of me. The customer service has been disappointing. On another visit, close to closing time, we were already eating when they started mopping around us, and the strong smell of cleaning products made it hard to enjoy our meal. I took a friend of mine for dinner. Both of us were craving vermicelli bowls and fresh spring rolls and Saigon One was very close to her house. The restaurant is good sized and was empty besides one other table of four that was mid-way into their meal. For being empty, there were still tables that hadn't been cleared off yet. The host/our server at the front counter was very unwelcoming, rude, & motioned for us to sit at a dirty table while he went to get some menus. We selected a clean table instead. As we sat down, our server didn't leave and immediately wanted to take our orders, but we told him we'd need a few minutes. We ordered 2 Thai Teas (which were great), fried calamari (too much batter, very greasy, and no taste), shrimp spring rolls (these were delicious + the peanut sauce was tasty), and 2 vermicelli bowls with an egg roll, shrimp, and tofu. The vermicelli bowls were good, but they gave us very little fish sauce even though we both asked for extra sides. Our server never came back to check on us, so I walked to the front counter to ask for extra sauce. Right after walking back to my table, he came with the payment terminal asking us to pay for our dinner. We paid and right after that, he came back with to-go boxes and began to pack up our appetizers, reaching in between us (mid-conversation) as we're trying to eat. I've never experienced such a thing. And, I forgot to mention - for 2 people, our bill came to $74.13 and we didn't even get to finish our dinner at the restaurant. read more

Im also a vet when it comes to Vietnamese Iced Coffee, I must say I miss the old days when theyd bring the little metal strainer with espresso and allow it to drip into the sweet condensed milk. Nowadays it seems like all these places have it premixed,so they just pour a little of the mixture over a crap ton of ice. I hate this method cuz it never mixes well and you hardly get any coffee. It's all ice! This place has a great ambiance, but the old guy serving us was very bitter and rude. My wife was being over polite to the guy and he just kept a stiff upper lip.If you do not like serving people or interacting with them then the restaurant biz is not for you. Came here for the first time with some friends. Food was delicious but customer service was horrible. Worst experience I have had in a restaurant setting. We were waiting on two more friends to join us when our server showed up and said he needed to take our order as it was the last order he was going to take. It was 7:45pm and restaurant closes at 9pm. We placed the order for us and our friends. Our food arrived quickly and had no complaints as it was delicious. After about 20 minutes our server came back and brought our check and asked us if we needed to go boxes. We told him we were still eating and enjoying ourselves. He still came back and brought to go boxes. Shortly after he asked us if we were done with our pho since we were eating our other food. He then proceeded to pack it for us. We told him we weren't done eating and he ignored us. Before 9pm this man had all our food bagged and telling us he was closing the restaurant. We payed and left. The food quality and price point is average. As other have mentioned, the customer service is lacking.

People misunderstand the lack of english the servers speak and take it to heart when they don't meet their American expectations, when in reality this is one of the absolute best pho places in modesto for the price as well. I read a lot of 1 star comments on this place and it hurts me because I live next to this place and I have loved this pho place for almost 2 years. They are quiet and keep to themselves but if you have the balls to speak up and ask for extra lemons or sauce they will gladly bring it. The service is extremely quick and my personal favorite is the avacoda shake and pho order number 2. Don't be scared and try some of their delicious food. read more

Coming in with a baby and saw a booth available but was used for the restaurant just because it had a couple of books that can be easily removed but instead they stuck us with a table in the corner with other patrons, thinking of the other patrons that would be better and easier and accommodating to use the booth for a little bit more convenience and privacy so we would t disturb the other patrons, food came out vermicelli bowl look like it was portion wrong with little noddles maybe if they would have used a smaller bowl rather than a big bowl but I was disappointed with the customer service and food portion. The service here is terrible. The waiter lacked any enthusiasm, he didn't even smile. He barely opened his mouth, and it was like he was whispering to us. We had to ask him numerous times to repeat what he was saying. It was extremely awkward how he would mumble. I felt uncomfortable. Plus, the owner, I believe, wasn't any better. He also had frowns etched into his features. We felt very unwelcomed. The atmosphere was off, and the food was also less than satisfactory. We wanted to order pearls with our drinks, but they ran out. At first, that was okay, but it really ticked us off when we wanted to order banh mi to go, only for them to say that they were out of bread too. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. Have been coming here for 4 plus years, and let me just tell you their vermicelli plates are my favorite and the taste has been consistently delicious! One thing to note is that their menu has changed so i have attached new menu.
