My family love this place. We've been coming here for more than 25 years. My moms favorite egg noodle with wonton soup, Banh Mi and spring rolls, pho and Curries were my favorite. It's family own business and you can tell the food they serve made with love. Delicious. A little pricey but it's worth it! Give it a try. read more

This is probably the third viet restaurant I've been to since I've moved out here to Bako. I've tried their Pho, Bun Bō hue, fresh rolls and the dish on the picture. So far it's been my go to. The lil old Vietnamese waitress is always quick with the orders. Definitely better than watered down Pho Hut. read more

We had a quick stop over in Bakersfield, so we ordered Vietnamese sandwiches. Sandwiches were really good and despite looking a little on the thin side, it was quite filling. We had grilled pork and chicken sandwiches, which were both good. read more

Pho broth was really good, best I've had in a long while in Bakersfield. The servers are very sweet and attentive. We will be back!

I sadly did not have the time to take a picture of how good the food was. It didn't make it. I enjoyed the staff they were very friendly and the food was amazing. Next time I go I will post some pictures. Thank you!! read more

I have been here many times and during this past year got take out a few times . The quality of the food whether dining in or picking up to eat at home, has always been excellent. Jenny and Julie set the standard for what it means to be a gracious host. My favorite dish is curry chicken and that is what I order 95% of the time. Viet Nam ( few people today are old enough to know or remember this ) was a French Colony for more than seventy years and though I would never presume to see myself as a gourmet, I have always believed that Vietnamese cuisine belies a subtle French influence. It is my hope that this compliment will not in any way be construed as an indorsment or defense for what the French did to that beautiful country and its people for over seven decades. read more

The pho was decent. I had the beef and meatball pho. A little sour for my tastes ( I didn't add any fresh squeezed lime). The #5 banh mi was also okay. I never had tomatoes in a banh mi before. Plus it was disappointing not to have pate but mayonnaise instead. read more

This place doesn't clean their dishes and the service is horrible I will never come here ever again...

Eh. This was 1 of 2 banh mi shops Yelp had for banh mi sandwiches. I tried the other one last time and thought I'd try this one. We ordered large house special beef pho (2x), classic spring roll, and a combination banh mi. Party of 8 with these orders plus gratuity totaled about $73. Pretty pricey! Pho broth was not clear like your usual, was ok. Nothing fancy or nothing that said bang for me. My 6 kids and husband shared the two Bowls of pho. They did not provide water for 5 of us; only for me, my husband, and oldest child. Two gender distinct bathrooms available in back. Was clean area back there. They also had a dog in the restaurant behind the counter so....uh, isn't that a violation or something? The combo banh mi was ok. Flavor on meat was tasty, but nothing striking. Bread was toasted as expected, but not too bready at all. No jalepenos or spice in it. Spring roll was small, cut into 8 pieces. Sauce was nothing fancy, just hoison a bit heated by water. I would say if if you're going in as a 2-party, place may be okay but still pricier. I usually feed my family of 8 at a pho restaurant for around $50 for more food than what I got here today. I wouldn't go back to this. read more

This has been long overdue. We stopped by to eat here by accident on our way home to LA from Modesto. There was an accident on the 99 Freeway and we opted for Vietnamese food. There were two older ladies manning and operating the restaurant. We ordered soup, rice combo and fresh rolls. Although the portions were smaller portions compared to what we get in LA and it's a tad bit pricier, the food was excellent. And their amazing service was incomparable. They even gave my little toddler milk and cut fruits and were entertained by her while we were waiting. I would come back because of their great food and kindheartedness. I felt well-taken care off. Thank you for your kindness! read more

Was craving a Banh Mi sandwich. I remembered that Saigon Restaurant on Chester Lane made these. Dropped by at an odd hour when there was only a couple of other folks dining here. After browsing their menu, I settled on their Banh Mi Combination Sandwich. As I sat waiting for my takeout order to be prepared, I looked over the rest of their menu & the restaurant itself. On their menu, they offer something for everyone at affordable prices. Will have to take my wife back here to try their Pho. The restaurant itself looked clean and cozy. Not too small, but not too large also. Service was fine, and my sandwich was ready in a reasonable time. Took me about 20 minutes to drive home. Was concerned that my sandwich would not taste fresh anymore because I did not eat it right away. Well, I was not too impressed with the first couple of bites of my Banh Mi combo sandwich. The more I ate though, the more I enjoyed it. With each ensuing bite, the flavor of the meat mixed with the daikon, cilantro, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots & jalapenos was quite good. Would order it again. Their Banh Mi sandwich was not nearly the best that I've tried. However, being in Bakersfield, I was pleased with what I ate. 3 stars if this Vietnamese Restaurant was based in L.A. 4 stars because they are in Bakersfield. read more

Best pho in town! I actually learned that they make their bone broth in-house and fresh so that's why it's so flavorful. They're always friendly and accommodating and I'm so glad they survived the pandemic. The portions are pretty big so you're definitely getting more than your money's worth. With this cold and rainy weather, I might have to make a to-go order soon! read more

Been going to this place for 15years, food is excellent, service is also awesome. Highly recommend this place.

I'm a sucker for soup, so when my friend Joan told me that Saigon Restaurant was her favorite place to get pho I was powerless to resist. There is a large water feature near the front door of the restaurant from which you can hear the softly trickling and burbling water sounds all over the restaurant. We were seated at a table along the wall which had, as all the tables along the wall do, a small water feature and an arrangement of fake flowers. It sounds hokey, but the sounds were very soothing. I'm not sure how to describe the music playing i the restaurant other than it appeared to be Muzak remixes of old songs from the '70's and 80's; Joan commented on how much she enjoyed it. There was a flat screen television on the back wall broadcasting some sort of sports game, but the sound was turned down and wasn't competing with the music or the trickling sounds. Joan assured me that the special chicken noodle soup was her absolute favorite, but I was drawn to the chicken curry pho. The waitress asks if I want the small bowl or the large bowl; I'm hungry, so I ask for the large bowl even though my friend, the one with more experience here, has ordered the small bowl. Well, what she should have asked was do you want a big bowl or do you want a huge-a$$ bowl, because my bowl must have been 8 inches in diameter. The "small" bowl was 6 inches across. I tasted Joan's chicken pho and it was very tasty, but it just didn't compare to my curry chicken which was full of rice noodley goodness. I tasted it unaltered and it was excellent. After I added several spoonfuls of the chili pepper paste/oil, some of the sriracha sauce, fresh bean sprouts and fresh basil leaves it approached amazing. I have bad allergies and I like my soups very spicy as they clear out my sinuses, and this one did not disappoint. I ate until I was uncomfortable full and feel like I barely made a dent int his monstrously huge bowl. I ended up having to get a container to take the rest home, but I'm looking forward to having the rest for lunch sometime this week. I also had a Vietnamese ice tea which was rather tasty and sweet. I'd definitely come back here again. read more

The food is better than this rating, and seem authentic. However, the server was a disater. She was kind, but forgetful. We asked for something interesting and she recommended chow mein? Ok, we ordered it, maybe it's something special, but no. Fairly bland, premade noodles, . . . um why suggest this. Worse, she forgot to put in the order for -her- suggestion. At the end of the meal we tried to cancel it, but the ?owner? came out and said it was already made. I then saw her walk back to the kitchen, and heard her tell the chefs to prepare a chow mein. They brought it 5 min later, charged us the full amount, and didn't even appologize when we asked for a box and clearly didn't want to stay any longer. Just wow. read more

The best Vietnamese restaurant I've been too. Food is consistently good, which is essential. I had a fabulous bahn mi at another place one time , raved about it to a friend who I brought with me one time to try it out. Awful! I couldn't believe it was the same sandwich. Never went back. Saigon is consistent and you always know it's going to be good. My favorite is the Vietnamese beef stew, which most restaurants don't serve. It's flavorful and absolutely delicious. I don't live in Bakersfield anymore, but when in town, that's where I head. Their fried chicken is also good, and I wish I knew how they marinate it. Sooo yummy. The rice they serve with it, however, is dry and lacking flavor. Oh well, the chicken makes up for it. The owners are so friendly and make everyone feel at home. read more

My review needs an update...This place just continues to impress me/us and we find ourselves wanting to eat here about once a week.. We always split a bahn mi sandwich, shrimp and pork spring rolls, and a combination fried rice. The combination fried rice (chicken, pork, and shrimp) is absolutely amazing. I usually don't like fried rice because its usually too greasy, but this stuff is so good and not too greasy its crazy.. The petite older lady that always serves us is funny and provides great service. This place is worthy of a 5* upgrade in my humble opinion.. read more

Well, this is a family operated business. The team of women do a great job to provide service, and quality food every time we come. They are busy during lunch, so make your visit with plenty of time to be served during peak hours. They have a limited staff ( you know, family!) The location is right off Oak Street, just in the corner of a bland, quiet commercial center. No frills on the outside and no frills on the inside. Simple and they keep the place clean and tidy. The food -- good. I confess I do not know much about Viet. food, but they offer good food, healthy portions. We always hit up the Pho soup, some spring rolls, rice and some of the BBQ chicken. This is not a high end, hip asian cusine place ( at least not in Bako, right?) but they still have good meals, good portions, and a nice environment for a meal that is not too expensive. This is a favorite of ours. We've come to know the family very well, and they are very kind and will go out of their way to please you ( if you need or crave that much attention!) I would give them one more star but I can't seem to recall some exceptional dishes that they may have -- and that may be my lack of selecting another dish on their menu that rocks. Overall, they have good food, you know, for weekly lunches with a friend or an evening out with family for something other than Chinese! Chat with the two sisters who really run the place and you will get some insight into their restaurant. They really are very nice, and they all work hard to keep that place humming along with Pho and Spring Rolls! Another point -- the other Viet. places are on Union ( yea, try that one) or on Ming or somewhere else in Rosedale. So, this is smack in the middle of town, I would say. read more

Let me start off by saying that the entree's were very good. The pho broth was nice and flavorful. The appetizer spring roll was obviously made hours previously. Everything else was sub par. We were served with very old sprouts, basil, cilantro, and lemon... which should have been lime, l we could tell these were days past being fresh. There was an old lady, I am guessing the owner, was talking on the phone in the front room. She made several calls during our dinner, laughing and joking the entire time. It made the experience less than desired for sure. Nice entrees but bad overall experience read more

With pho vy II closing we needed to find a new pho restaurant. We tried Saigon yesterday hoping it's 4 stars and length business has been open would yield good Vietnamese food. First impressions were that of a typical Vietnamese restaurant. I've been to literally hundreds throughout the world so I'm pretty familiar with these establishments. For Bakersfield definitely thought items were over priced when looking at the menu. 4 small Egg rolls for $13 without the traditional Vietnamese garnishes of lettuce herbs and pickled vegetables. These were offered at an additional cost, honestly this was surprising, but these were the best things we had for sure even without garnish so with I could only imagine how good they would be. Pho was $15 for a large bowl which I feel is typical in metro cities, however the lack of noodles really made this bowl feel like a small in other establishments. The broth was a little acidic and extremely fatty. Left a film in my mouth, really unappealing mouth feel. Vietnamese coffee was over sweetened and not really strong at all like typical Vietnamese coffees. 3 stars for Bakersfield 2 or less if this establishment was in the bay or oc. Kinda felt like we wasted $65. Oh well you live and learn. Next time we will take the drive out to union read more

A solid 4! For an appetizer we had fresh spring rolls. They were filled with shrimp and pork. They were fresh the rice wrap was still warm. Great peanut dipping sauce. I had the pork Bahn mi with a small side wonton soup. The Bread was lightly toasted not too crunchy just the way I like it. The pork was tender with good flavor. All the veggies were crunchy and fresh. The small soup had awsome broth. I wish it was a medium soup. Paired with a Vietnamese beer it was perfect. The wife had a regular size bowl of shrimp and pork pho. Very good broth, lots of noodles and the right amount of shrimp and pork. For dessert we had the mango and sticky rice. Not so good. It had what I thought was a very ripe banana under the rice. The mango was good but the rice part just didn't go. No pic of the desert. It wasn't worthy. If in Bako again I'll definitely go back for the good food and friendly service. read more

5 star for the service and friendly ladies. We loved our waiter. Glad to see her being happy on this Labor Day Monday. Probably 55 or 60 yo and loving life. She has such good energy and a cheery attitude, most ppl her age is miserable on a wheelchair somewhere and this lady is kicking ass! Friendly and kind staff. The owner was there to wave goodbye, too. 2.5 stars for the food, but don't listen to me on this one. For Bakersfield, their current 4.5 stars is accurately comparable. I'm Vietnamese and my favorite food is Vietnamese, so my standard is very high, especially living in coastal SoCal where good Vietnamese foods are available. The foods here, at least for our broths, was too sweet/sugary/salty with not enough balance. The meats didn't taste fresh. I like my broth cooked from real fresh bones, overnight. The broth here taste like they are seasoned with packaged bone broth powders and other synthetic flavoring powders, but not real bones and fresh herbs the way I'd prefer. We did not have their pho. We ordered beef stew and bun bo hue and combo fried rice. The rice was good. We still tipped them 30%, of course, always! Will come back if ever in Bakersfield again. read more

We had the beef pho and vermicelli. Both were delicious and tasted authentic. Prompt, friendly service was given by all the wait staff. While the restaurant was very large, it was not very busy. Pho is delicious and fresh tasting. Spring rolls are springy and good. I do wish they had more herbs in the rolls though. The staff provided suggestions on how to enjoy our rolls and pho and we were glad to oblige. Only downside is the restrooms need updating!
