This place is so cute and cozy. The service was great. Our waitress was awesome. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. My boyfriend said she reminded him of his grandma, which is always a compliment We were even vibing to the music! The Bún bò Hue was pretty good. The pho was AMAZING!! Best I've had in a long time (we got the Special Beef Noodle). We'll definitely be back. Can't wait to try the Bánh Mì! read more

Yum!! Passing through Bakersfield on a road trip, we are really glad we found Saigon Restaurant! We ordered the special chicken pho and the curry chicken soup to go--both were really delicious! Also had the fresh spring rolls--stuffed with goodness. Recommended! read more

Amazing restaurant with great atmosphere and impeccable food. The servers are fast and seem to care a lot! 10/10

It was surprisingly cold one evening and I wanted something warm, so noodle soup came to mind. I walked in on a Thursday and found a good crowd here. I was solo and was seated at a table close to a larger family group. I couldn't face away from them because that chair was too close to their table. A bit awkward, I ran with it seeing that they were almost finish. Other than the awkward seating, service is attentive and friendly. In looking at the menu, the prices were higher than expected. It was less Vietnamese to me and more basic Asian (a blend of fusion). The appetizers were really meant to be shared given that they were all at least $10. Bummers if you want to try things. There were dinner combinations that look interesting, but again basic--beef with broccoli, fried rice, lo mein, etc. Based on the recommendations and photos on Yelp, I tried the small egg noddle soup with wontons. It comes out quickly and hot! The broth has a sweet flavor that has blended into the noddles as well. It was an interesting take. There were 3-4 pieces of shrimp cooked nicely with the soup (not overdone as is so easy to do with soup noddles), a few slices of chair sui, and a few wontons. The flavors were great, but no heat at all but there is chili sauce is offered. My favorite part was the matcha wafers that came with the check. It was a nice touch and I LOVE matcha. Perfect way to end the meal. read more

There's not many Vietnamese places that I know of in Bakersfield, but this one definitely worth finding. It's been around for many years n same tucked away spot. Doesn't get much foot traffic, but once you've been here, you'll return. It's probably once if the best yellow curry that I've had, great flavor with a tad of spice. I think it's family owned, it was lunar new year so many members were gathered at a back table, family style, enjoying their meal together. It was warming to see the family value and even invite a woman who delivered flowers for the celebration got asked to sit and share the meal. The food was on point, desert yummy. I classify as "hole in the wall" spot with large open dining room with outdated decor but doesn't matter because the food is good. We are fans and definitely returning! read more

Gonna give ya 3 stars. Ya'll were nice. So, i hope this helps to either the owners or potential customers. The pho broth was cloudy and lukewarm, the bo kho was sugary and the banh mi was flavorless. I hope you can use this to improve. Thank you read more

I've been coming here for many years. Spring rolls to start, chicken kabob lunch and then an iced Vietnamese coffee to finish. I can't imagine a day when this wouldn't be possible. Today, we ordered for pick up and I can't wait to eat this deliciousness! They even gave us 2 popsicles and some chocolates. This is what they're like! Thank you read more

My family and I have been going to Saigon (on Oak Street) since opened over 30 years ago. It is one of our favorites for Vietnamese food in Bakersfield. This is a family owned restaurant that is always spotlessly clean and the food is always fresh and tasty. The owners prepare the food and serve customers. They are always friendly and treat us like family. I love the vietnamese crepes, the beef stew and all the pho dishes. Highly recommended. read more

Wife and I had the bbq pork sandwiches. Were very good! Would recommend. Staff is very friendly. Will be back soon. read more

Always good and the best customer service. Staff are friendly and attentive. Pricing is fair for great quality.

This place is dirty. There were crock roaches on the walls and we had to use our napkin to get rid of it. We looked at the review before we went and thought we found a winner. I was so wrong. It was so bad. I will never return. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a little girl. The ladies at the front are always friendly and polite. The food is always amazing and prices are extremely reasonable. Anyone complaining about the atmosphere of the restaurant has probably never been to a true Vietnamese restaurant, lol! The older the decor, the better your food is going to taste. I hope this restaurant never closes. read more

The restaurant was clean and tidy. The tables or set up family style, which is different and I liked it. The place wasn't too busy so I think that help with the customer service although the lady was very sweet who served us. We specifically went here for Vietnamese dishes. We ordered spring rolls for soup, shrimp fried rice. Everything about this place was very homely, including the servers mother making the food in the kitchen. I think my only con here would be that when serving Vietnamese food you want to have all the fixings. Unfortunately this place did not have mint. Mint is usually used in dishes with Vietnamese food so I was a little surprised and prefer the full in culture of food. I gave four stars but willing to go back mint is included in spring rolls and any other dishes. read more

We stopped here on our long drive back from Arizona. We ordered Chicken Pho, Shimp Pho and Vegetable chow mein. Everything was fresh and delicious. The pho broth was amazing. It is a light meal very suitable for a long journey. The chow mein was a bit salty but delicious otherwise. We were there around 2:30 pm and there were couple other occupied tables. Service was quick and personable. The ambience was warm and welcoming even though the location is not the best. read more

On the way to San Diego from Yosemite we were craving some Pho. This restaurant came up on our search. It was a delightful experience. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered the regular Pho with a side of beef balls, Hot and Spicy beef Pho, Bhan Mi pork, and Noodle & Wonton soup. My daughter liked the thick rice noodles, my other daughter liked her banh mi sandwich, and I liked that I could finally ask for egg noodles instead of rice noodles. The pho soup base seemed sweeter than we were used to, but it was still great pho! Five stars for service, five stars for food, and five stars for the overall experience. We will definitely come back to this restaurant the next time we're in Bakersfield. read more

I wanted to find some good pho so I yelped and this place popped up so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed. I had the Special Chicken Pho and my fiancé had a spicy beef and pork pho, we both enjoyed it. His noodles were more like noodles in chicken noodle soup but all was delicious. The staff were friendly. The location is a little sketchy cause of the area but these are where you find the best food. read more

I haven't been here in quite some time and I am so glad that they survived Covid Every time I have dined here the food and service have be very good. I always notice that they have a very loyal customer base. The atmosphere is subdued relaxing. I really enjoy that they have Table cloths under glass. Always prompt polite service. Quiet background music you can easily converse with friends. I ordered the Vietnamese rice crepe with shrimp & pork it was fluffy light & crunchy. The flavor was mild but they served it with a Sweet syrup & chili paste so you can adjust the taste and heat to your own pallet. The Shrimp with snow peas has delicious sauce and the vegetables are nice and crispy and steamed rice is included. At the end of the meal she brought a plate of delicious Moon drop purple grapes They are a specialty grape that looks almost like a small finger. The two dishes ordered was enough to feed two people read more

I love this place! It's the original Vietnamese restaurant here in Bakersfield. They have been consistently delicious since the day they opened. Love love their Vietnamese coffee! Talk about a wake up call! But my go to dish in the winter is their chicken pho and summer is the bbq beef bahn mi. Make sure you also try the shrimp and pork spring rolls with peanut sauce! So good! The service is great! The family that owns this place are sweet and kind! Definitely support them! read more

Loved the place. Good, kind service. Clean. This one of the better Viet restaurants I've been to, especially a new and really good one in a long time. I grabbed the Vietnamese Shrimp Soup, which is shrimp and pork with vermachelli noodles. Very tasty. Very light, if that's what you're needing. GF got Chicken Pho and its broth alone was amazing! Recommend both. Enjoy! read more

The food was terrible. They were all bland and had frozen smell. We came as a group of 16 people. We all ordered recommended dishes. But they all tasted terrible. My son got puffy lips after he ate the seafood crunchy noodle. They charged 18% service free and the paycheck was $313. It is not worth it to eat over there. The price is way too high compared to all the local Restaurants. If I could give zero star for the food, they would get that right away. They got two stars because of the waitress. She gave us wonderful service. She is very nice but she cannot decide anything because she's not the owner. read more

Quick Summary Starting to wonder where all the negative opinion of Asian food is coming from in Bakersfield. Quite surprised by the good food and service I had here. Tried the Spicy noodle soup and really enjoyed it. Food- 4 stars The Spicy noodle soup (or Bun Bo Hue) was pretty good. It wasn't super heavy either and not loaded with MSG. I didn't walk out feeling super thirsty or tired, like I usually do after eating Asian food in LA or SD Service- 5 stars Staff members are very friendly and attentive. I really appreciate this, as I'm used to the mediocre service provided in traditional Asian restaurants Atmosphere- 4 stars Plenty of parking and seating. Value- 4 stars They accept credit cards and provide good service. I'm willing to pay an extra $1-2 compared to the traditional Asian restaurants in LA Bottom Line Enjoyed the noodle soups here and appreciate the good service. Will be coming back during a cold day read more

After my family and me watched a movie we craved for some asian noodles and we decided to go back to this place which we have not visited for a long time. Surprisingly it looked even better than the last time I could remember. Some of the staff and the owner are still the same. We knew what we wanted to eat so in no time our food was served in a very attractive presentation. We were happy that the food was as delicious as the last time we came which was quite a long time ago. The ingredients were perfect and our grandson who loves asian noodles enjoyed his choice and even took half of my own noodles, we really appreciated how delicious our orders were. The sticky rice with sweet mango was heaven, forgot to mention our appetizer.... the pork and shrimp rolls plus the sauce which made the flavors entwined in our palate, such a delicious combination. And to top it all, the owner gave us free chocolates and sweets, what a wonderful lady. read more

Really the worst Vietnamese food we've ever eaten -- unfortunately it was just terrible, everything we ate was awful. The "vegetarian" pho was made with chicken broth (not vegetarian). The size of each dish was very small, and super expensive. The vegetarian egg rolls were fried in rancid oil. The shrimp was bad (smelled and tasted fishy, like it had been sitting too long; it was also low quality frozen then thawed and not cooked to the proper temperature; I sent it back but nothing was done to fix it). The service was not accommodating at all -- very rigid when making simple requests (answer was always, "no, we can't do that"). Asked for the owner and was told they aren't on site. The only positive Was the restaurant was clean. Cannot recommend, clearly the owners aren't taking care of this business anymore. read more

After a long day of driving, all I wanted was a bowl of comfort food noodles. The day was drizzling off and on so naturally I had to get pho. I Yelped the closest spot to get dinner and luckily I was only about 5 min away. The ladies that greeted us were super nice. The older lady that took our orders were also extremely sweet. Our food came quickly; I ordered the Pho ga and the Mr. ordered hot and spicy beef soup. My pho ga (chicken) was amazing. The broth had that depth and it really made me happy. The Mr. wasn't super impressed with his meal but that was probably because he deviated from his norm- he said the noodles were over cooked and they were egg noddles as opposed to the rice noodle that he was expecting. That was unfortunate for him but though I feel like like a jerk for saying this, I'm glad my food lived up to my expectations. Haha :) read more

the food snob reviews make me smile. been eating here since the 90's when my wife and I ate for $20. the mom and daughters are always a pleasure to talk to. Authentic food - well prepared. Highly recommend sandwiches and soups. We will continue to dine here now that we know about it!

I'm from Seattle and visiting this area to visit my grandpa. This place closes at 8 and at 7:40 I called asking if it was okay to come in still. The lady was very nice saying it's okay and to come in. Their rice plates were delicious and meat was very flavorful. Wonton soup and pho were also delicious and the broth was sooooo yummy. customer service was really goood and super friendly. definitely will come back. read more

An inconspicuous place. If you didn't know of it, you wouldn't. I went with friends, some time back; Great food. I'll be going back.

I think it feels like I have where review for this place 1 million times but movie that was in my head. I have eaten at this place about 1 million times tho! Years ago this was one of the only healthy spots to eat at in Bakersfield know there is many more healthy restaurants but this is still one of my all-time favorites. You cannot go wrong eating here everything is super delicious. The staff is very friendly I think it's a family owned business. Do you have one many awards for this restaurant so that should tell you something. I'm vegetarian and there was many options to eat! Love it, it will always be back. read more

This place is a hard no for me. I've been here a few times before over the years and have never really been super impressed with their food. Decided to come back after realizing that New Saigon on Union closes at 3 on Saturdays. I was sorely disappointed. We were offered fresh squeezed orange juice and it sounded delightful! It was not. It was super sweet, sugar added and watered down. It was also $6. Yes, 6 flipping dollars! Flavor of the pho was good. Even though there was hardly any meat or noodles in it. I just threw a ton of bean sprouts in my bowl and pretended they were noodles. My husband had the crispy chicken and said it tasted like it was just defrosted. Pricing seems super inflated too. I also felt like I was in a nail salon with these ladies trying to get me to order other items, too. I know everyone has to make a living, but damn. Probably won't be coming back, and now I gotta figure out what I'm really eating for dinner. (The extra star is for the nice ladies). read more

This may be my least favorite Vietnamese food in Bakersfield. The spring rolls were tiny and had almost no shrimp or pork. The spicy shrimp were not spicy. It was basically a plate of raw onions and mushy shrimp. The bo bun hue is mediocre at best. The broth wasn't rich or savory as it should be. The noodles were the thick European kind, and the meat was nearly non-existent. We're done with this one for good. The staff was courteous and fast, so they get 2 stars. There's much better around town. read more
