There's not many Vietnamese places that I know of in Bakersfield, but this one definitely worth finding. It's been around for many years n same tucked away spot. Doesn't get much foot traffic, but once you've been here, you'll return. It's probably once if the best yellow curry that I've had, great flavor with a tad of spice. I think it's family owned, it was lunar new year so many members were gathered at a back table, family style, enjoying their meal together. It was warming to see the family value and even invite a woman who delivered flowers for the celebration got asked to sit and share the meal. The food was on point, desert yummy. I classify as "hole in the wall" spot with large open dining room with outdated decor but doesn't matter because the food is good. We are fans and definitely returning! read more

It was surprisingly cold one evening and I wanted something warm, so noodle soup came to mind. I walked in on a Thursday and found a good crowd here. I was solo and was seated at a table close to a larger family group. I couldn't face away from them because that chair was too close to their table. A bit awkward, I ran with it seeing that they were almost finish. Other than the awkward seating, service is attentive and friendly. In looking at the menu, the prices were higher than expected. It was less Vietnamese to me and more basic Asian (a blend of fusion). The appetizers were really meant to be shared given that they were all at least $10. Bummers if you want to try things. There were dinner combinations that look interesting, but again basic--beef with broccoli, fried rice, lo mein, etc. Based on the recommendations and photos on Yelp, I tried the small egg noddle soup with wontons. It comes out quickly and hot! The broth has a sweet flavor that has blended into the noddles as well. It was an interesting take. There were 3-4 pieces of shrimp cooked nicely with the soup (not overdone as is so easy to do with soup noddles), a few slices of chair sui, and a few wontons. The flavors were great, but no heat at all but there is chili sauce is offered. My favorite part was the matcha wafers that came with the check. It was a nice touch and I LOVE matcha. This is a family owned restaurant that is always spotlessly clean and the food is always fresh and tasty. The owners prepare the food and serve customers. The restaurant was clean and tidy. The tables or set up family style, which is different and I liked it. The place wasn't too busy so I think that help with the customer service although the lady was very sweet who served us. We specifically went here for Vietnamese dishes. We ordered spring rolls for soup, shrimp fried rice. Everything about this place was very homely, including the servers mother making the food in the kitchen. I think my only con here would be that when serving Vietnamese food you want to have all the fixings. Unfortunately this place did not have mint. Mint is usually used in dishes with Vietnamese food so I was a little surprised and prefer the full in culture of food. I had the Special Chicken Pho and my fiancé had a spicy beef and pork pho, we both enjoyed it. His noodles were more like noodles in chicken noodle soup but all was delicious. On the way to San Diego from Yosemite we were craving some Pho. This restaurant came up on our search. It was a delightful experience. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered the regular Pho with a side of beef balls, Hot and Spicy beef Pho, Bhan Mi pork, and Noodle & Wonton soup. My daughter liked the thick rice noodles, my other daughter liked her banh mi sandwich, and I liked that I could finally ask for egg noodles instead of rice noodles. The pho soup base seemed sweeter than we were used to, but it was still great pho! Five stars for service, five stars for food, and five stars for the overall experience. I love this place! It's the original Vietnamese restaurant here in Bakersfield. They have been consistently delicious since the day they opened. Love love their Vietnamese coffee! The food was terrible. They were all bland and had frozen smell. We came as a group of 16 people. We all ordered recommended dishes. But they all tasted terrible. My son got puffy lips after he ate the seafood crunchy noodle. They charged 18% service free and the paycheck was $313. It is not worth it to eat over there. The price is way too high compared to all the local Restaurants. If I could give zero star for the food, they would get that right away. They got two stars because of the waitress. After my family and me watched a movie we craved for some asian noodles and we decided to go back to this place which we have not visited for a long time. Surprisingly it looked even better than the last time I could remember. Some of the staff and the owner are still the same. We knew what we wanted to eat so in no time our food was served in a very attractive presentation. We were happy that the food was as delicious as the last time we came which was quite a long time ago. The ingredients were perfect and our grandson who loves asian noodles enjoyed his choice and even took half of my own noodles, we really appreciated how delicious our orders were. The sticky rice with sweet mango was heaven, forgot to mention our appetizer.... the pork and shrimp rolls plus the sauce which made the flavors entwined in our palate, such a delicious combination. Really the worst Vietnamese food we've ever eaten -- unfortunately it was just terrible, everything we ate was awful. The "vegetarian" pho was made with chicken broth (not vegetarian). The size of each dish was very small, and super expensive. The vegetarian egg rolls were fried in rancid oil. The shrimp was bad (smelled and tasted fishy, like it had been sitting too long; it was also low quality frozen then thawed and not cooked to the proper temperature; I sent it back but nothing was done to fix it). The service was not accommodating at all -- very rigid when making simple requests (answer was always, "no, we can't do that"). Asked for the owner and was told they aren't on site. The only positive Was the restaurant was clean. Cannot recommend, clearly the owners aren't taking care of this business anymore. read more

After a long day of driving, all I wanted was a bowl of comfort food noodles. The day was drizzling off and on so naturally I had to get pho. I Yelped the closest spot to get dinner and luckily I was only about 5 min away. The ladies that greeted us were super nice. The older lady that took our orders were also extremely sweet. Our food came quickly; I ordered the Pho ga and the Mr. ordered hot and spicy beef soup. My pho ga (chicken) was amazing. The broth had that depth and it really made me happy. The Mr. wasn't super impressed with his meal but that was probably because he deviated from his norm- he said the noodles were over cooked and they were egg noddles as opposed to the rice noodle that he was expecting. That was unfortunate for him but though I feel like like a jerk for saying this, I'm glad my food lived up to my expectations. Haha :) read more

I'm from Seattle and visiting this area to visit my grandpa. This place closes at 8 and at 7:40 I called asking if it was okay to come in still. The lady was very nice saying it's okay and to come in. Their rice plates were delicious and meat was very flavorful. We stopped here on our long drive back from Arizona. We ordered Chicken Pho, Shimp Pho and Vegetable chow mein. Everything was fresh and delicious. The pho broth was amazing. Years ago this was one of the only healthy spots to eat at in Bakersfield know there is many more healthy restaurants but this is still one of my all-time favorites. This place is a hard no for me. I've been here a few times before over the years and have never really been super impressed with their food. Decided to come back after realizing that New Saigon on Union closes at 3 on Saturdays. I was sorely disappointed. We were offered fresh squeezed orange juice and it sounded delightful! It was not. It was super sweet, sugar added and watered down. It was also $6. Yes, 6 flipping dollars! Flavor of the pho was good. Even though there was hardly any meat or noodles in it. I just threw a ton of bean sprouts in my bowl and pretended they were noodles. My husband had the crispy chicken and said it tasted like it was just defrosted. Pricing seems super inflated too. I also felt like I was in a nail salon with these ladies trying to get me to order other items, too. I know everyone has to make a living, but damn. Eh. This was 1 of 2 banh mi shops Yelp had for banh mi sandwiches. I tried the other one last time and thought I'd try this one. We ordered large house special beef pho (2x), classic spring roll, and a combination banh mi. Party of 8 with these orders plus gratuity totaled about $73. Pretty pricey! Pho broth was not clear like your usual, was ok. Nothing fancy or nothing that said bang for me. My 6 kids and husband shared the two Bowls of pho. They did not provide water for 5 of us; only for me, my husband, and oldest child. Two gender distinct bathrooms available in back. Was clean area back there. They also had a dog in the restaurant behind the counter so....uh, isn't that a violation or something? The combo banh mi was ok. Flavor on meat was tasty, but nothing striking. Bread was toasted as expected, but not too bready at all. No jalepenos or spice in it. Spring roll was small, cut into 8 pieces. Sauce was nothing fancy, just hoison a bit heated by water. I would say if if you're going in as a 2-party, place may be okay but still pricier. I usually feed my family of 8 at a pho restaurant for around $50 for more food than what I got here today. This may be my least favorite Vietnamese food in Bakersfield. The spring rolls were tiny and had almost no shrimp or pork. The spicy shrimp were not spicy. It was basically a plate of raw onions and mushy shrimp. The bo bun hue is mediocre at best. The broth wasn't rich or savory as it should be. The noodles were the thick European kind, and the meat was nearly non-existent. We're done with this one for good. The staff was courteous and fast, so they get 2 stars.
