This is my first time trying Saigon Le Vendeur and I ordered the OG banh mi, the chicken banh mi and the pork spring rolls (nem nuong). Everything tasted very authentic, even though the prices are a little more steep than what I would expect for cafe/banh mi food. I will say that they forgot the pate in my OG banh mi and I was a little sad since that's my favorite part!! I'll come back again! I went on a weekday to try Saigon Le Vendeur and was very pleased with the results. I found the food truck with no problem and nearby parking. The wait was short and the meals were great. I originally went there to try the Bahn Mi sandwich. The vermicelli bowls looked really good and I decideTo get the sandwich for lunch and the vermicelli bowl for dinner. I LOVE banh mi. And after the reviews I read I was so sure I'd love this place that I faked it about a third of the way through mine. Then I stopped to consider. I'd ordered a grilled pork sandwich; what I got was more of a shredded carrot sandwich with a small meat garnish that was too sweet and had none of the complexity of my favorite grilled pork. Also included was one slice of cucumber, one of jalapeno, and a nice handful of cilantro. I think there was some mayo, but to be honest, I couldn't taste it. The bread, though, was quite good. If my banh mi had cost half what it did, I would have shrugged it off and never written this negative review. But it was $8--and I ate it sitting at a picnic table, shooing away the flies. Although the seating area is really cute, a food truck needs to be extra good to compensate for Austin weather, IMHO. As it stands, my next banh mi will be enjoyed in the air-conditioned bakery of a competitor (and will cost $4). Or I'll just go back to Ho Chi Min City.... read more

We've been going to Saigon since they were a trailer down the road from the current location. We've tried nearly everything on the menu at this point, and nothing disappoints. I love that the curry ramen has stayed on the menu despite it being considered "seasonal" and my husband has become obsessed with the prawn bánh mì as of late. Also, the owner and employees have always been welcoming and kind! This place rocks! read more

This was our only serious complaint, since it made it pretty difficult to properly dine and fully savor our dinner. The only option for drinks is paid; unfortunately no water cooler like those provided by other food trucks. These things being said, all our food was authentic and on point! I do wish they had Vietnamese Coffee and Pho, however. Maybe a respectable request for the future? *Tofu Spring Rolls were tasty, with a tasty accompanying peanut sauce. Though a little heavy on the lettuce and vegetables. *Spicy Chicken Vermicelli Bún was tender, moist, flavorsome. Plentiful vegetable variety in the form of bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, daikon, romaine lettuce; smart addition of basil and mint. Suitable portion size on the noodles. Appreciated that the spicy chili sauce came on the side. *Prawns with Vermicelli Bún were extra charge but totally worth it. Better executed than most brick + mortar places. Sauce was a perfect compliment, infused into the shelled (grateful for that) pieces, which were melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious! *The Original Bành Mì was one of the best I have had, especially with the added fried egg (expertly fried because, yes, one can tell the difference) and avocado (fresh and plentiful serving size for only $1.50 extra). Plentiful meat, which included pork belly, pork cutlet, paté. Same vegetables as the vermicelli, and the frequent crunch when I but into them made the sandwich that much better! This place has to be my new fav banh mi place in Austin. It's been hard finding a good, or at least decent banh mi place so I'm happy we came here. The coffee was cold and strong, just how Vietnamese should taste. The banh mi took a bit of time to come out, but it was hot and fresh when we had them. I love their spring rolls too, it wasn't the typical ones you see at pho shops, rather it reminded me of the Vietnamese cured pork - nem nuong. Pretty good banh mi! I give it a 4/5 - only knocking for the fact that I paid $9 (including tip). I'm so used to it being $4-5 in Houston and will never understand why it's so much more expensive in Austin! But I got the grilled pork and it was nice and tender. The bread wasnt too hard like some other places here where you bite into it and it like cuts the inside of your mouth. Good meat to cilantro ratio as well. The owners there are super sweet, hardworking and talented chefs who just want to make your dining experience epic. The location is prime for a bite under the canopy or in the back courtyard. While parking isn't ample for the weekday lunch rush, you can always get a spot on the street next to the train tracks and walk over. I highly recommend the spicy chicken banh mi or the spicy chicken vermicelli. Either one, you can't go wrong. The veggies they use to top both are so fresh and colorful. Beware of the jalapeño - it's fresh and very spicy. It will give each bite a nice kick if you can handle it. Cool off your mouth or your day with a jasmine iced tea. Ah, fuck it - they earn a bonus star from me just for blasting Black Sabbath while I was waiting. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Okay, it's pretty much only pictures of my food these days, but it's still all good. And the grilled pork Bahn Mi here is good too, if maybe pricey at $7.53 total. Your menu choices are Bahn Mi or vermicelli, with spring or egg rolls. And by now you should know if you like food trucks or not, so spare us the parking & weather issues. I'm not sure Saigon Le Vendeur even qualifies as a food truck - it appears to be a big storage container plopped way down on East 7th. When I worked downtown pre-Covid, I came to this food truck so often that they knew my name. It's a simple sandwich but just so tasty. I always get the spicy chicken with no jalapenos (I just can't do straight jalapenos). The chicken is juicy and spicy (spicy enough that you need chips or bread on the side but not so spicy that it takes away from the sandwich, at least for my tolerance). The food truck downtown didn't have the spring rolls or egg rolls. I tried the egg rolls when I recently Favor'ed from the 7th street location, and I like them a lot. As I write this, I'm craving another bahn mi. I will say, I had my boyfriend try one for the first time. It didn't win him over. I'm not sure why, just nothing interesting for him maybe. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. This little food truck is AMAZING. I am vietnamese and have had eaten so much banh mi in my life, and tbh I'm pretty picky about it. So when I say this is some of the best banh mi I've had in my life, I mean it. It's comparable to the banh mi in Vietnam. The OG is definitely what you need to get. It's got like three different meats, the bread is perfect and the classic spread they put on it is plentiful (hate when places skimp on this!) and the perfect flavor. I would die for the pate inside of this sandwich tbh. It's soooo good. The first time I ate here I came back like three days in a row. They've got little seats outside new the truck as well. Saigon Le Vendeur is definitely one of those hipster joints instead of the more traditional Vietnamese food truck. Because of this, expect to pay a lot more instead of what you are used to for a banh mi sandwich. It's a truck, so there is only outside dining with picnic tables scattered throughout. The patio area was nicely decorated with antiques and interesting knick knacks. Surprisingly the rest room was also very clean. We got the grill pork and combination banh mi. Both tasted fantastic, and maybe even the best in Austin!! One was enough to fill me up. For the price ($7), I wouldn't mind coming here for lunch every once in a while. I'm looking forward to trying the vermicelli next time. Combination- the sandwich contains lots of different meats, a nice thick layer of pate, Vietnamese mayo, and various veggies such as pickled radish and carrots. My favorite thing about it was the pate. One of the better ones in Austin. Grill pork- my favorite sandwich here. The pork was perfectly cooked and thinly sliced.
