My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this trailer for awhile. We had both heard excellent things about the food. He got a sandwich and I got a chicken bowl of some sort. Both were just ok. The flavors were pretty good, but the meat was questionable. Both types were chewy and had a significant amount of fatty pieces that were inedible. I tend to be more sensitive to meat like this than my boyfriend, but even he had to throw some away. I would consider giving this place one more shot but won't be rushing back. read more

You can get cheaper and more authentic banh mi elsewhere, but this is definitely my favorite vegetarian banh mi in Austin. They have a mix of seitan and tofu, I think, which has a tasty marinade, in good bread with plenty of veggies. It's outside, so dress (and apply bug spray) accordingly! read more

Saigon Le Vendeur is close to my work so I go here frequently. The O.G. is a refreshing palate cleansing sandwich. It comes loaded with cold cuts of steam pork roll, cured pork roll sausage, and dried pork with liver pâté. I am always stuffed when I am done eating the sandwich. If I start off with an appetizer, I am miserable the rest of the day but in a good way. Their specials always look intriguing and amazing. Maybe someday. read more

Hands down the best vietnamese banh mi I have ever had, and I am vietnamese and have had my fair share of banh mi growing up in Houston. I really appreciate that they aren't stingy with their protein portions! There are only a few parking spots in the front and if you're coming from I-35 you have to do a very strange U-turn in order to get there, but it's worth the hassle. I usually get the pork banh mi with pate. Their jalapenos are spicy, their meat portions are relatively large, and their banh mi is crispy and fresh. The next time I go I am definitely getting a fried egg on mine! I've also had their vermicelli bowl, which is pretty standard and nothing to write home about. read more

This is without a doubt the best banh mi I've ever had from anywhere in Austin. I wasn't really expecting it to be, ensconced so deeply on the Eastside where so much food is style over substance and being so far removed from all the legit Asian restos farther north. But I was seriously, seriously impressed. I've only had the grilled pork (two days in a row, to make sure the greatness of the first one wasn't a fluke), but the bread was the perfect amount of crunchy on the very outside and immediately soft and doughy in its unusually large interior; this is a thick baguette. The grilled pork is well-marinated, complexly flavorful, and extremely tender. The sandwich is slathered with a distinctly French-tasting mayo and piled with cucumber, carrots, and cilantro, giving a clean, fresh taste to contrast the savoriness of the pork. And the sandwich was absolutely loaded with jalapeno slices, all seeds intact. I love spicy food, the hotter the better, so I thought this was great. But this is definitely pro-level heat. If that's not your thing, you should ask them to hold back. This place immediately jumps high into my regular rotation. I'll definitely be back, and often. Oh, apparently they make banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) from time to time. If it's anywhere near as good as their banh mi, I may never eat anywhere else again. read more

A new friend introduced me to this haven of authentic Vietnamese food! The people that run the truck are friendly and helpful! The guy at the register actually talked me out of ordering spring rolls because my meal was essentially the same ingredients. And he also said they are working on a vegetarian version of their fried spring rolls. He said he recommends the fried spring rolls with the vermicelli. I got the tofu vermicelli and my friend ordered the spicy chicken version! Both were delicious and not overly spicy unless you add a bunch of siracha sauce (which I did). They also brought our food out to our car as an added treat because it was a little chilly outside. Excellent customer service, excellent food. Great portion size! We got the tofu and pork bahn mis. Pork flavor was great and the bread was everything to be expected. The tofu was a bit of a downer they seemed to have two differently marinated pieces of tofu. One was significantly better the other. Could have done without the filler. The toppings felt bulky and could have had a bit more flavor but overall pleasant. First let me say that the outside seating area reminds me of antique shop meets junkyard. It is a very interesting space to have lunch. The real show is the food. We tried the Pork Banh Mi, Spicy Chicken Banh Mi and the Pork Spring Rolls. All three were excellent with very fresh ingredients. The rolls are not baked at the trailer but they do buy par baked and then finish them on-site which makes for a fresh baked experience. This may be the best Banh Mi in Austin but I guess we all have our own preference. The staff working there are all very friendly and service is quick. I will definitely be returning. read more

Great food truck. My family ordered banh mi, vermicelli, and iced coffee. The fish sauce that came with the vermicelli was pretty authentic. The sandwiches were good, but not worth the parking or distance depending on your location, obviously. All of the food looked fresh and colorful. Two sandwiches, a vermicelli bowl, two coffees, and coke cost us about 35$. Pricey for Vietnamese, but that is to be expected when you're in the downtown area. A co-worker discovered Saigon Le Vendeur recently and brought me a banh mi. It was delicious so I went back today to to see for myself. I am impressed. The sandwich is stuffed with fresh ingredients and the baguette is fresh and chewy with just enough crunch. A very good value for sure. As a vegetarian, this place is a god send to Austin. The vermicelli with tofu was incredible, they also add some savory seitan bits in the mix. The Vietnamese coffee is also incredible. I've been twice now, and I've left each time with a full and happy stomach. The first time, I ordered the spicy chicken vermicelli and it came out delicious! The sauce that comes with the vermicelli is pretty darn spectacular. The second, and most recent time I've been, I ordered the spicy chicken bahn mi. In my personal opinion, the bahn mi was better than the vermicelli, but I like sandwiches I suppose. It was easy to eat, not messy, and was surprisingly filling! Each time I've been, I've also ordered the spring rolls, and I feel pretty safe suggesting them to anyone that goes and thinks they can handle more than the entree. I'm sure that I won't stop after only having been two times, but I'll go again and again! Definitely a winning a selection for lunch in the area. read more

For some reason, the price of banh mi across the city is a bit more expensive considering you can literally get 2 for $5 in place like Houston that are absolutely phenomenal. However, if you are going to pay for $6 banh mi, come to a place like this over some overrated spot like Elizabeth St Cafe. I had the grilled pork and the spicy chicken and both were really good. I've always judged things in terms of quality to pricing and here you will find an equality in both. Saigon Le Vendeur is solid. It's not good or great, but it hits the spot if you're itching for your banh mi fix. read more

I just had the best motherf--king bàhn mì in my life. It was hands down the greatest thing that's been in my mouth all week. The bread was soft, but crisp; not dense, but perfect. It came with an entire garden's worth of fresh cilantro, and the most delicate slices of cucumber surrounded by grated carrots and what I think was daikon. All of these toppings sat atop a throne of seitan mixed with tofu in a lemongrass sauce. I swapped the mayo for avocado (no charge), and smothered each bite with a lethal portion of Sriracha. If everything I just described doesn't give you a semi, I don't know what will. read more

My entire family enjoys the food here. It always taste good and we like all the dishes that we have tried. If you plan on calling in an order do not expect it to be even close to ready when you get there. We have phoned in an order numerous times and it takes at least 20 to 45 minutes after you get there-no matter how long you wait to go pick up your order. They probably don't start the order until you arrive for pick up. Maybe that's why it always taste so good. If the food didn't taste so darn good I would give it 1 star. read more
