The main lady who works there has zero customer service etiquette. We came and ordered the lunch special, she looked at one of the people in our group and said "not enough food for you, you have to order the dinner size". Incredibly rude! And then when ordering the cashew chicken, someone asked for no onions and she said no, order something else then. I understand if it's something in the sauce, but it's literally largely cut onion pieces, and her response was then order another one. I'm sorry but for $18 a person I think someone should be able to ask for no onion. It was a wild experience. We won't return. read more

After a long day hiking in the mountains, Monroe is the spot for real food. It was starting to get late 730 at night and we were so thankful to have found Saigon kitchen open for us! Firstly, we love Vietnamese food and secondly they offer vegan friendly food which if you've ever been in Monroe, it's not easy to find . husband got the pho with extra noodles and he was happy with his dinner. I got the tofu vermicelli bowl and I was also pleased with my food. I love a good lemongrass soft tofu, which they delivered. Restaurant is big, lots of seating. Looks like they were very busy! First of all everything was sweet. I mentioned to the waitress that I was not fond of sweet main dishes. I ordered the Mongolian beef noting the spicy pepper next to the menu item. It not only wasn't at all hot or spicy - It was absolutely sweet. Just as sweet as the sweet and sour pork that my husband wanted. The Happy dish had one shrimp and some pieces of meat, lots of celery. Nothing to write home about. The hot and sour soup was fair at best. Everything was just ok. I just also want to mention that one of us ordered an ice tea. It was served with the glass totally filled up with ice. With the ice there was very little room for actual tea. When the waitress came back she asked if he wanted more ice tea and he said yes. When the bill came with a charge for 2 ice teas we were appalled. I showed the waitress the full glass of ice saying we didn't even get one glass of ice tea. She said we charge for each refill regardless and proceeded to process the payment. In almost all restaurants it is policy to get refills for fountain drinks. I did not know their policy nor did she mention the second charge ahead of time. She did nothing. Long story short - we could have went to Panda Express, spent half the price and would have received better quality food and 3x the amount that we actually received. Menu online is not up to date. Prices have increased $3-4 per item. I will upload a copy. I called and ordered (which was super easy) and she repeated it back to me correct... but when I got there to pickup the food, I figured we would get more than just one bag, since we ordered 5+ full sized entrees (2x orange chicken, 1 cashew chicken, fried rice and chowmein). All of which costed $94! Outrageous, especially for the amount of food we received and the quality of the food. Let's use the Orange chicken as an example... have you ever been to Panda Express? If you get the double entree of Orange chicken, they give you a lot of chicken. For this full size entree from Saigon, we received LESS than you would at Panda Express. Not to mention, most of this chicken we received was crispy breading with no chicken inside of it. The flavor was okay, but honestly I'd rather go to Panda Express - you get more food, better quality and for almost half the cost! Similar to the above, the amount of fried rice we received was the same amount you'd get inside the meal from Panda. Keep in mind we ordered a full size entree of fried rice. The chow mein, was not chow mein. There was no noodles, mainly veggies and sauce along with crispy noodles to go under it - so it wa more like chop suey. I ALWAYS order chow mein from Chinese food places and this was not chow mein. There was also no meat inside of this dish, which we had ordered. Only been here 1 time on a Saturday afternoon for some takeout. Place was empty. Lady running the place was very nice. I ordered my dishes and we waited. When I got home I saw that we were missing the white rice I ordered and paid for. That was really irritating. She even asked if I wanted a single or a large. Total without tip was $69 for Mongolian beef, general tso chicken, cashew chicken, bbq beef fried rice and the white rice I didn't receive. Food was ok. Mongolian beef was lacking in the sauce department and I have been eating Mongolian beef since the 80s. Fried rice lacked in flavor and egg and beef, frankly. Cashew chicken was decent. The food is ways good. My complaint is that I have noticed when you call ahead for take out they will give you a time, usually 20 min but they don't EVER start making your food until you arrive. This happens every single time, and no, they were not busy. Next time I will offer to pay over the phone and maybe that will fix the problem. I keep forgetting about this place! I kinda like the tucked away feel of this unassuming low key Americanized Chinese place that has been around since I was in my teens. Monroe can be so crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. This place is on east main street with ample street parking in front and back in the less bustling part of town. I saw a younger guy doing everything from busing tables to bringing out food. He was wearing t shirt, jeans and a baseball cap with an ear piece on. No dress code standards but if the food is good and service is good, I am willing to look the other way. The food: ***Bbq pork 5/5! Super moist and tender pieces they give plenty of hot mustard and seeds. Must try! Our FAV!*** Won ton soup was decent. One big fat meaty won ton folded in shape of a pocket in each of our one cup order. Add lots of black pepper. Wish it comes super hot! Deep fried shrimp 12 pieces. Batter was a a bit thicker than it should be but it came out piping hot with sweet and sour sauce. It is pretty yummy with hot mustard and sesame seeds. Pot stickers: hubby liked it, it was the thinner skin I personally like the thicker wrapper. Almond fried (white meat) chicken: the gravy is more clear brown and more mild with grounded almonds sprinkled on top. Slightly different than the thicker yellow gravy I was used to. Chicken chow mein with crispy noodles 5/5. Lots of white tender chunks of chicken with celeries, bean sprouts and onions. 5/5 classic chop suey. Black bean chicken came with green peppers, onions, fermented black beans and lots of big chunks of tender white meat chicken. Decent dish and makes for good leftover. Definitely eat with white rice! Considering times of inflation, this place is dirt cheap considering the big meat portions. 3 appetizers and four main dish, and beverage all came to $95 after tax. Got tons of leftovers for the whole week. They have ample booth seating and a large round table and long tables to accommodate larger groups. My only complaint is the white rice. Not as hot and fluffy as it should be. Would return for the quiet ambiance and overall decent quality of the dishes. They serve Vietnamese classics like bun and pho noodle bowls. Can't wait to try their pho Irene the owner lady said their beef broth is pretty special. And fresh rolls. Saw someone ordered Thai iced tea too. read more

Yelp to the rescue with this Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant in Monroe! It's located off the main US Hwy 2. Super friendly staff. We ordered: Chicken and veggie chow mein - delicious, flavorful, yummy noodles Egg rolls - flavorful and yummy. crispy!! Pho - aromas were fantastic, flavor was decent, a little on the sweet side, probably wouldn't order again. Chicken and broccoli - typical stir fry dish - it's good Bbq pork fried rice - tasty Overall, everything was seasoned nicely and tasted great except for the Pho which was slightly off to us. This used to be such a great place to go. We were welcomed with big smiles and super tasty food but apparently that vibe has left the building. We went there last night for dinner as a treat, and the woman who was our waitress greeter was incredibly rude and made us feel completely out of place come, this is so different than what we used to experience and that's part of the joy when you go out to dine, so we won't be back. I will share that the lovely woman who prepared our food and came out with the hairnet was just a sweetheart , but the waitress, hostess cashier person was sweeping up around us, which was gross, causing dust and dirt to rise around our food, she didn't want to smile. She stood three tables away when she took, our order. When I asked for a glass of water, she pointed to a water station across the restaurant and said you can do it yourself... So I am going to do it myself, and we will never return. read more

What a hidden gem! Driving home from an event, my boyfriend and we're kinda hungry. It was nearing 8:30 and we had no idea where to go.. We stopped off at a little Asian restaurant which didn't look very impressive on the outside, but we both love Asian food so we decided to give it a shot. Entering the restaurant I felt like I was stepping into a Harry Potter tent , it was really big on the inside with beautiful ornate Asian themed decorations and soft music playing in the background. We were seated right away and chose a dinner deal which was $9.75 per person WOW! Including a soup + side + entree. My boyfriend had general tso's chicken, and I had Mongolian beef (medium spice). Our food came out very quickly and tasted great. My beef was very juicy and flavorful and a great contrast to the crunchy rice noodles under it. AWESOME flavors!! We ordered the saigon beef and spicy crispy chicken - both amazing, but the beef in particular! Beef comes with onions, peppers, and I don't know what is in the sauce, but it is just so flavorful and exactly what I think of when I think about getting some good Asian takeout. Chicken was crispy and came with peppers, lightly sauced and sliiiightly under salted but that's my opinion (husband thought it was fine). Oh and they were really nice too. Great flavorful dishes. They have a unique variety of Vietnamese and Chinese. Both options are decent, but I've had much better pho and bun elsewhere. I would personally stick with Chinese. They have great signature Saigon tofu dishes and their crispy chicken is excellent. Their owner is hardworking and on point. Good drink prices too.
