OK, had promised my wife and myself that we'd had it with this place. I broke the promise tonight and got some takeout. Boy, am I sorry. Got a family meal to go: Out of hot and sour soup, so got egg flower soup. Pretty good. Had spring rolls, ostensibly pork. One piece of pork, some veggies, and a bunch of rice noodles. Not so good. Chicken chow mein. I swear, there was not one bite of chicken. Hunan chicken. I'll confess I've not had Hunan chicken before, but it had a weird taste. Kind of with a petroleum background along with some anise. Ugh. Pork fried rice. Not bad, but again absent of any pork. I guess they ran out of chicken and pork when they ran out of hot and sour soup. BBQ pork. Who can screw that up? Dry and flavorless, and they didn't have mustard, ketchup, and sesame seeds to get any redeeming flavors out of it. We've patronized this place at least four times before. Slow learners, I guess since each time we've been met with substandard fare. This time was the last straw. I swear that I will never, ever even come close to downwind of this place. P.S. The dragon lady is curt, abrupt, and disinterested in your needs. She seemed to want track meet starter blocks to get away before even taking my order. Tried this place for first time. Sweet and sour pork had old hard pork in it and hardly any sauce. Almond fried chicken had no gravy! Pork fried rice was old, hard and crunchy! Couldn't eat it! Think they served us garbage at full price! Chow mien was good but not stirred up, egg rolls good. Prawns were ok, only 4 and grease was old! plus lady was rude! Pho tasted like beef stock from a box or watered down bouillon cubes; way too salty and too much msg, no fragrant aromatics like cinnamon, ginger or star anise. Just beefy water with prices of old meat floating in it. Soggy bean sprouts served on the side with like 5 basil leaves and a sad little sliver of jalapeño. The fried rice was even more AWFUL though. First off: the rude owner (really bad attitude!) didn't ask what spice level we wanted (guess that's our first clue it's not authentic) then when it was so served -- very blandly -- not a since fresh veggie was in the entire dish. Only previously frozen carrots & peas. NASTY!! Tasted like old oil to top it off. Go get some real Thai food down the road where they use fresh veggies and customize the spice for you! read more

Best Chinese food around. Their house fried rice is so special! Never had another kind like it. Food is always made and fried fresh every day. Pho soup is amazing, personally my favorite, they make their own broth. Fried foods are always sooo crispy and yummy. Soup is made fresh every day, love them all lots. This has grown to be my favorite Chinese Food joint in Monroe. It's not an authentic experience, I am sure, but if you are eating Chinese food in Monroe, I don't think you care about that. I just want basic Ameri-Chinese food that leaves me feeling satisfied from time to time and this is the place. Just a funny little side note...They don't really have house drinks on their cocktail list. They just list a bunch of common drinks with their common names as things that they can make. Of them, they actually list "Duck Fart" on the menu itself. I dunno why, but I find that charming and adorable. Came here for lunch with a friend yesterday and it was pretty good. We started with the spring rolls and then had pho. The spring rolls were fresh and came with a very yummy peanut sauce. Be sure to ask for the chili sauce if you want something hotter than Sriracha. Great Chinese food. I've eaten at this restaurant for 18 years- both old and new locations. Like most Chinese restaurants, just avoid the cliched Americanized dishes like sweet and sour pork. I've traveled in China numerous times and have finally realized that the breadth of Chinese food is so vast that it's hard to pick a set of dishes to 'cover' China. That aside, the food here is reliably great. Saigon Kitchen has some real winners like the General Tso's Chicken. Also, the owner is originally from VietNam so the Pho is also fantastic. Prices are reasonable, it is family owned and run and you'll be taken care of well in regards to service. The new location is a little off the highway's beaten path, but is much nicer. There's a few choices when it comes to Chinese food in Monroe, and whenever I try the others I am always disappointed that I didn't come to Saigon Kitchen. Saigon Kitchen has a lot of good dinner combos at really good prices. The menu is a bit of an odd/eclectic mix of both Chinese and Vietnamese food - I had been going there for years before I realized that they had Pho as an offering. I've never ventured too far from the Americanized Chinese offerings (General Tso's Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Almond Chicken, Szechuan Beef, etc) but have been generally pleased with the dishes I have had. if you're in the mood for Chinese food in Monroe, this is the place to go. read more

OK so I really like the food there, but the past three times I've gotten take out, the boxes have leaked everywhere. This most recent time, we mentioned this on the phone when we were placing our order and they put one of our meals in a Styrofoam box but they put it upside down and it leaked everywhere. Both of the other boxes got soaked in the spicy sauce from the first box and they basically disintegrated in the bag. Couldn't even eat it because I can't handle spicy and it was covered with the sauce from the other box. We had already driven away at that point and the traffic was backed up so bad it wasn't worth it to turn around. I was in the area and thought I would give Saigon Kitchen another try at its new location. The owners built the restaurant from the ground up, the exterior has a nice bright sign and has entrances on Main street as well as in the back parking lot, plenty of parking by the way. The interior was surprisingly well decorated with brand new furnishing and a huge tropical aquarium. The restaurant looked huge, a lot bigger than their former location and now it seats 91 people. I ordered the Cashew Chicken w/ Steam Rice. I have no complaints about the food, the quality is something you would get at Panda Express and I know many people who enjoy that type of food. My overall issue was that they didn't have steam rice! The owners and employees arrived late and did not have all the prep done before doors opened at 11am. I had fried rice instead, however that didn't bother me. What bothered me was that there were 5 orders before me and another 5 after me and the wait for takeout was at least 20-25 minutes. When I got home, I was expecting to see Hot 'n' Sour soup but to my surprise it was Egg Drop soup, which I did not order. read more

This is the best Chinese food and service in the area. We have enjoyed everything we have ever had - and their egg foo young is the best! We always get the fried rice which is a meal in itself and loaded with the veggies and chicken. The service is always friendly and very considerate. On my last take out order for the family, I ordered fried rice with no onions - my wife has an allergy. I didn't think about the other dishes I ordered - but they did. The chef came out and asked which dishes needed no onion and which were ok with onion. Who does that?! It was just the latest in how good their service is. Sweet & sour chicken was very tender and not overpowered with sauce. The chicken chow mein was very fresh with the crispy noodles and big pieces of chicken. Vietnamese is my favorite cuisine and at first I was taken aback that the menu is mostly Chinese, but there are vermicelli bowls and pho on the menu if you look, as well as a few other Vietnamese dishes. I've been searching forever for an amazing Chinese restaurant and tonight we found it! Chose to try them out for our valentines dinner and it was amazing. The food was hot and you can tell that it was freshly cooked. They brought it out in courses instead of dumping everything at once. Had a large variety of combination dinners and a la carte and very reasonable prices for as good of quality and quantity of the food. Egg flower soup, deep fried prawns, sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice- all A+. And my husband said the general tsaos was really good as well. Wishing we had leftovers but we scarfed it all.
