Saigon Deli is a Vietnamese sandwich shop that serves some of the best banh mi in DFW. They also make great che (Vietnamese desserts) too. Everything here is great - but it helps if you speak the language. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Look for the LED Lights - thats when you know you've found Saigon Deli. On the right behind the glass is where you can see ingredients for sandwiches being assembled. On the left is dessert. And in the middle you place your order. The are some fridgerators that hold grab and go items. The most important trait (for me) is it's clean. 1 Star. Service - It helps if you can speak Vietnamese. I started to place my order using the letters on the menu (D2, S4, etc.). Next I pointed to pictures. Finally I broke out my very remedial Vietnamese and placed my order. They got it right, but if you don't speak Vietnamese make sure you double check your order. 1/2 Star. Food - I love Saigon Deli's banh mi. The French Bread rolls are perfectly crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. But what makes their banh mi so good is the mayo/butter spread. No matter what protein you choose (I like Pate Cha Lua), along with their pickled carrots and cucumbers, it creates a delicious bite that's fresh and distinctively Vietnamese. But on my most recent visit, I indulged in their Vietnamese desserts. If you like coconut milk, order the D2: Xuong Sao & Dau Xanh. Soft and sweet mung bean and jelly meet with the sweet coconut and ice. You also get a large portion. My only issue is the ice. They use square ice, which is ok, but if they used "Sonic Ice", it would have been better. 1 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Saigon Deli is one of my go to places when it comes to Banh Mi. Their bahn mi game is good. I enjoyed the bread and the sandwich had lots of whichever protein one ordered (I got the chicken and one grilled pork). I was there mid afternoon on a weekday and service was quick. Veggies were good although the cucumber did seem a little on the too ripe side but it was fine. They had just the right amount of jalapenos which I love. Overall my SO commented that they are a little on the sweet side and that is true but it wasn't too much for me. The chicken and the pork both had good savory flavor but yes there is a bit of sweetness. The pork was in a flat meatball type format. I think you have to go with the buy three at $5 each and get one free deal which is what I did. Cleanliness could be improved. Aside from that, I do like that there are tables and chairs for guest to sit. This place is also quite spacious. The sandwiches are buy 3 get 1 free, priced at $5 each. I thoroughly enjoyed eating the combination sandwiches. The grilled pork (this buying) sandwiches was sweeter than what I'm used to. I heard about this place from a facebook group. The picture looked so good that I had to try it. I went in and saw a lot of people waiting, and I was ready for the wait. Surprisingly, I ordered a #1 which is the combination and by the time I moved out the way for the next person my sandwich was ready. They also have self serve egg rolls on a table by the counter. I ate the egg roll in the parking lot! It was so good. My total was only a little over $6! The sandwich was only $5. I will absolutely return. I have to try the rest of the sandwiches. This is the only Vietnamese banh mi place I love in Dallas! Their banh mi are made fresh in front of you, and they don't skim on the meats or veggies either. It's buy 3 get 1 free, which is a great deal considering how it's only $4.50 each, and everyone in the family can get their favorite banh mi (combo, fish cakes, xa xiu, fried egg, etc). My mom is obsessed with their meats, and she usually buy a pound to bring back home in Kansas to eat as snack or breakfast. I actually hated eating banh mi after moving to the US because no stores can do it right, and my love for it came back because of Saigon Deli. I also tried the other popular place, Quoc Bao, but it didn't really meet my standard. If you plan to order a lot, call ahead so they can have it ready for you. I usually only order 4 so I don't mind waiting and watching them assemble. Ask for the veggies separately if you're not planning to eat right away. Came on a Sunday morning and ordered 3 combo and 1 bbq. It was buy 3 get 1 free and $4.50 per sandwich. This price is fairly reasonable and I was happy with the sandwich. The bbq pork sandwich was warm and soft. The bread is soft yet crispy on the outside. It's a good quantity of meat and side veggies that filled me up. It was fresh. They are a little heavy on the butter and Mayo, so keep that in mind if you don't like those. The bbq pork was sweet and a huge quantity. It wasn't the best and tastiest, as I've had better. However, for the amount and fast food style of this restaurant, I was satisfied. If you are looking for a gourmet sandwich, you might be disappointed. I would compare this to a quick, fast sandwich that satisfies all the banh mi requirements. Good tasting, fresh bread, veggies, and meat. Made to order in about 5-10 min. I have had several combination banh mi and they were all just okay. My great aunt took me to Saigon Deli and it did not disappoint. The combination has a lot of variety of meats. It's one of the first combinations that I have had where pate was also added (pate is my favorite banh mi to order) so it just made it taste that much better. Saigon Deli has one of the best deals that I have seen where it is buy 3 get 1 free. On my last weekend in Dallas, I had to buy some to take home and share with my family. I would say to be careful if you're in the plaza. There were several homeless people in the plaza wondering around the parking lot. The parking lot is not the best with cars coming in and out and it's quite small. So be careful of other cars and people. Stopped by after a nail appointment in the area to pick up some banh mi for dinner - this place was highly recommended by my nail tech, and the buy 3 get 1 deal was excellent. My husband and I ended up splitting the S1 (combination), S2 (meatball), S7 (grilled pork) and S10 (grilled pork organ). After I ordered, the employees behind the counter immediately started getting to work slicing the bread and slathering mayo and pate all over. The only sandwich that slightly disappointed me was the grilled pork/thit nuong; I was expecting individual pieces of actual grilled pork, but the meat filling for this sandwich was actually more like minced pork shaped into two McDonald's hash brown-shaped patties. I would skip that one next time! The other three sandwiches were excellent. Bread is super fresh and not too hard, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Meat portions were great, and the meat quality was excellent. Probably the best meatball banh mi I've ever had, and the combination was delicious too. And we both went out on a limb for the grilled pork organ, but that was great too! You could really taste the flavor of the pork and the texture of the tendon/ear/etc was great. It was also sliced pretty thinly, which I was impressed by. The generous mayo and pate on each sandwich paired well with the meat, and of course we loved stuffing each sandwich with pickled veggies and herbs from the huge plastic bag they gave us. The only thing that gave me a little pause were the drinks; I ordered the tamarind and the passionfruit juice, and both were incredibly sweet, even after paired with copious amounts of ice. In the end I basically had to add even more ice and then water down each of them so that they could be drinkable, which does make them great value (2-3 drinks for the price of one? Sign me up!) but just be aware that all the drinks are SUPER concentrated. The owner is a thief. She never give back correct change or steals them 2/3 times. One time she didn't even bother giving back .7 cents. I didn't say anything because I didn't care for 7 cents but the second time is a trend. She has a habit of doing this. My total was $18.12. I gave her $20.12 and she didn't give back $2. She was banking on me not knowing how to ask for it back in Vietnamese so she kept it. She's right, I don't know that much Vietnamese. I accidentally found this place after I found out that a similar (very popular) banh mi shop was closed. I was pretty happy to see that Saigon Deli has pretty solid banh mi! I ordered two chicken, one bbq pork, and one grilled pork banh mis. I believe there was a buy 3, get 1 free promo going on at my time of purchase. Each banh mi was very substantial for less than $4 each. The baguette was definitely my favorite part of the sandwich. The bread stayed crunchy and soft even after a 30 minute drive home! Also, the ends of the baguettes aren't hard, unlike those of other banh mi shops. I have two issues with the sandwiches though. The meat was a tad bit too sweet so the flavor didn't come through very well. It just seemed like it was overwhelmingly sweet. Also, the pate was spread very thick. Saigon Deli entered the banh mi game awhile ago but I never bothered to check them out because my go-to place was literally a hundred feet away. Fortunately, I decided to give this place a shot a few days ago and was pretty impressed! They also have the buy 3 banh mi get 1 free deal just like Quoc Bao...but they're open 7 days a week instead of 6 unlike Quoc Bao. Win! This place is also MUCH cleaner than Banh Mi #1 at Saigon Mall which has been having failed health inspection issues. Every component Saigon Deli's banh mi is on point. Their bread is crispy and well baked, their sandwiches are filled with a good amount of delicious meats, pate, buttery mayo, pickled carrots & daikon, and fresh cilantro, jalapeño and cucumber. They don't skimp on anything - that banh mi is full. I had an extra sandwich leftover so I put it in the fridge for the next day and it's still good. Their nuoc mia (sugarcane juice) is also squeezed fresh and is sweet and refreshing! They don't try to cheat you by giving you too much ice. IMO this deli has the best bánh mì and butter. My 10-yr old only eat the cha lua and butter, this is his favorites out of all the bakeries in the area. The baguette has just the right density and crunch. I find other bakeries have baguettes that are too tough, they hurt the roof of my mouth after eating.
