Banh mi

Wow! This is a little hole in the wall that I found by doing some research on google- definitely worth it. We ordered the summer rolls, banh mi sandwich and beef pho. We weren't a fan of the summer rolls but the main entrees were delicious and the service was so quick- we were in and out under an hour and the place had every table filled! The waiter did recommend what sauces to use for each dish, which we appreciated. I even had some pho left over which I was able to pack and go home with. Will definitely be back.

I've struggled to find great Asian restaurants in this general area but Saigon Café was a pleasant surprise. Optimally set up for takeout or delivery purposes, the food is very fresh and well packaged. I ordered the summer rolls and they came well wrapped in cellophane and fresh vegetables. Their peanut sauce even tasted more fresh than the standard Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely plan to come back here again soon. It is a welcome Vietnamese restaurant in an area that badly needs more of them.

Good restaurant slightly off the beaten track of Downtown Millburn, but worth the extra walk just off the main drag. The small dining space is up a house porch and then up a small flight of interior stairs. The space is no-frills, and service is attentive if not always the warmest (the server I had was no-nonsense but did his job well so I didn't need smiles and extra chit chat). The pork vermicelli platter was fresh and delicious. There's an array of sauces on your table, and the waiter told me which one (the fish sauce mixture) I should put on my food. The pho was piping hot and full of complex flavor.

The front of the restaurant is exclusively for take outs and deliveries. The entrance to dine in is actually on the side in the back. We have a group of 4 that day I visited. We were greeted when we steps in. The restaurant itself was clean. Service was alright. My husband and I ordered a milk tea and a Vietnamese coffee. He ordered a bowl of pho and I got the grilled beef bento box. My friend and her his husband ordered a matcha drink, the ox tail pho and the grilled chicken bento box. The milk tea I had was not bad at all. I like it. The tea base seems a bit different but it is more milk flavored, so the tea base was not that strong. Those that prefer stronger tea base might not like it as much. The grilled beef bento box was mediocre. The grilled beef was definitely a bit too dry and hard compared to the pork my friend ordered. The summer roll was overall small wrapped, but I guess because it's part of a bento box and not a full appetizer. Not sure on that since we didn't order a summer roll appetizer to compare. My husband said his pho soup base was average. The soup is hot but not enough flavoring compared to the many Vietnamese restaurants we have been to. Considering the area and neighborhood we were in, I guess the pho was already pretty good, just not the best we've had. All 4 of us thinks it's ok but will we come back to try other food? Probably not.

Their pho is so rich and tasty! The beef is tender and they give you a huge portion with lots of soup and noodles. Summer rolls were great too, and just needed to sub the peanut sauce they come with to make them GF.

Small restaurant, a tad confusing to enter the right door as there are three different doors before the entrance. Since it was a Friday night, there was a bit of wait but our food came out really quickly. We ordered the beef pho and the chicken pho. The chicken pho was a bit sweet and only has shredded chicken in it. And the beef pho only had one type of beef. Regardless, both were tasty. I do wish they gave small sauce dishes for the pho, we had to just use plates. There's a 10% cash discount!

Firstly let me say this is the best Pho spot and they have been awarded for their broth in NJ!!! Secondly it's also OUT OF THIS WORLD EXPERIENCE! I have eaten at way more expensive establishments and this place is so good I eat here weekly or biweekly because of the flavor, love, and care they take for their customers! The owner Jimmy always smiles and treats each person very unique for the best experience. I'm a customer for life! I've tried the fresh spring rolls , all the Pho's, the steamed dumplings, and bahn mi and it never misses ever! Customer for life!

Ordered here for lunch and they completely messed my order up. It was extremely expensive and frustrating. I requested NO PORK! Ordered shrimp fried rice v box. Received unknown meat with noodles. I would not recommend this restaurant for to go orders. Was not worth the price or wait.

Best Vietnamese restaurant in the region in my opinion. We come here or order take out from here at least twice a month. They have my absolute favorite Vietnamese dish, Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup. Nothing beats it on a cold dreary day. The bento box is perfect when you want to try a little of everything. I always get it with pork and fried rice. Another favorite of mine is the lotus salad, always perfectly seasoned and tasty. Service is always friendly and prompt. Highly recommend!

Wait : none of Service : not very friendly. It took us a while to decide what we want and the server showed his irritation. Food : very delicious and one of the very good Vietnamese food I've had. Portion is also big and one portion can be shared easily for two. They most likely us MSG coz I felt thirsty the whole evening. Price : great for the taste and portion. Ambiance: not too crowded Overall : would like to come back again

Saigon Cafe is a cute slightly out-of-the-way spot nestled in Millburn. We were greeted right away and the seating area was quiet as lunch was just starting. We noticed a walk up / take out window downstairs but we wanted to sit down. What great pho!!! We started with some delectable appetizers, the fried vegetable spring rolls (crispy and fresh) and the meat pao sandwiches (pillowy and savory). The banh mi was interesting with the vegan pate (not my favorite but my wife loved it) but the pho was perfectly flavored by the broth that tasted like it had been simmering for a day along with the beef and noodles. One of the best pho dishes I have had here in NJ so far.

Outdoor seating

This is one of the cutest restaurants that I have discovered in Millburn. The restaurant is a literal house! There was a gorgeous outdoor seating area that resembled a backyard, w/ string lights and plants. We walked around to the side door to enter, and the interior was decorated w/ small neon lights and lined w/ booths along the wall, similar to a diner. The atmosphere was very peaceful. There was calm instrumental music playing, and even the servers were very soft-spoken and friendly. I ordered the V-Box w/ chicken, which was delicious. It came w/ summer rolls, spring rolls, dumplings, vermicelli noodles, grilled chicken, and a pickled salad (I was able to get full from everything, too). My boyfriend got the Special Beef Pho, which was also excellent. I would definitely come here again.

I went with a group of 3 and all ordered ramen and the karaage appetizer, but the karaage was just slightly crispy and barely had any flavor, the sauce really saved that dish but definitely would pass on that dish. All 3 ramens were average. The pork cha shu was tender though which was the highlight, but overall broth was pretty standard. Particularly my miso ramen didn't have that much flavor. Service and staff was a bit slow, but food came out pretty fast. Overall not bad, but will probably give this place another go sometime and try some of the other dishes.

My son's katsu is super hot and crunchy (he said he doesn't want to eat it prior the food come, and ate 1/2 of the chicken!!) that means did you great!!! Rice was a little hard to be honest and corn was ok.. I kinda put them in my ramen.. the black ramen was good.. lots of spinach and thick piece of pork (chasiu).. soup was thick but not too thick!! Noodle was cool perfectly.. only thing is I have to pay to get the egg, but it was cook perfectly!! My son agree since he ate the entire egg.. would definitely come back again.. I wonder if it would get super busy at lunch time since they don't have too many tables (10 maybe), they might be a line out the door.. but 11:30 was a great time!! It was packed on the Friday night we visited, with folks lined up for seating, or to hang at the bar and enjoy the bar scene. No reservations. Our late dinner worked fine as the mostly millennial and Gen-Z crowd started thinning shortly after we arrived. Millburn has always been a draw for neighboring townsfolk in search of a meal out. I remember this foodie town from 25 years ago, when its pizza, kosher and diner offerings were top notch. It seems to have upgraded its food scene several notches since my last visit so many years ago. Pure nostalgia for me which made for a very flavorful evening. TOP TIP: Street parking in this part of town is a hassle and the local cops keep a sharp eye for illegally parked cars and inebriated drivers. So park further away from the center of town where you are more likely to snag a legal spot on a busy night.

The Veggie Panini is so tasty; the ingredients taste fresh and as though from a quality sauté; the Portobello Mushrooms, Red Onions, Roasted Red Peppers, and Spinach all mesh together juicily well, of good flavor. I try to make the meal as Vegan friendly as possible by removing the Feta Cheese. Still, the panini might have butter which texture wise more so than flavor wise is present. If not for looking in the sandwich I might not note the buttery-melt-like residue which is post my curiosity of the oil/sauce. I think a garlic-olive oil base may be a great option to substitute for any seeking to Veganify the Veggie Panini beyond just removing the cheese. The coleslaw is tasty and contains a light mayonnaise-milky-like dressing, which one may drain out, though the coleslaw comes with it. Being able to substitute the coleslaw for a commensurate size salad can help with Veganify-ing the coleslaw portion. The fresh fruit are fresh and tasty. Request a check for available fruits to be more sure of what might be coming in your fresh fruit package. The meal is overall juicy and satisfying. The establishment offers a variety of seating options and has a somewhat classy modern-retro vibe. I don't look for a jukebox or a dancefloor though I won't find any surprise if this eatery has them. The establishment accepts different forms of payment.

BEDBUGS in the Booths at Millburn Diner -- and an Owner Who Yells at Customers- STAY AWAY!…read more Quick Summary * Sat in a fabric booth and found multiple bedbugs crawling in the cushions within minutes * Reported it to staff -- no manager came over and nothing was done * We were moved to another table and still charged the full bill * Called the next day -- manager promised a call back but never did * Spoke with the owner later -- he yelled, accused us of harassment, refused to address the issue, and hung up I'm sharing this so other families in Millburn know what we experienced. Date of visit: February 28 Party: Family dinner including our 20-month-old daughter My family and I live in Millburn and try to support local restaurants whenever we can, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Within about five minutes of sitting down in a fabric booth, someone in our party noticed a bug crawling on the seat. Based on what we observed at the time, it appeared to be a bedbug. When we checked behind the booth cushions more closely, we saw several more, at least 8 crawling along both sides of the booth. Seeing multiple insects that were confirmed to be bedbugs where customers are sitting and eating was extremely alarming. We immediately got up and asked to be moved. In hindsight we should have left immediately, but we had already ordered and felt awkward walking out. The staff moved us to a table in the center of the restaurant with wooden chairs. We clearly told our server exactly what we had found in the booth. Nothing further happened. * No manager came over * No one inspected the booth * No one followed up with us * No one offered any acknowledgment beyond a quick apology from the server When the meal ended, we were handed the full bill as if nothing had happened. The next day I called the restaurant to make sure management knew what had occurred. The manager told me he had not heard anything about it and said he would call me back "ASAP." That call never came. Two days later I called again and asked to speak with a manager. This time the owner came to the phone. Instead of addressing the issue or even listening, he immediately became hostile and started yelling. He accused me of harassing him and his employees and said he was going to do nothing about it. After shouting at me, he abruptly hung up the phone. I have never experienced a business owner respond this aggressively or unprofessionally to a legitimate customer concern. For transparency, we documented what we observed at the time and contacted the restaurant directly the following day to give management the opportunity to address the issue. Based on what we experienced -- both the insects we observed in the seating area and the response from management -- this situation felt completely unacceptable. If you are dining in Millburn, there are many other options. DO NOT GO TO THE MILLBURN DINER!

Millburn has no shortage of delis, but Goldberg's Famous Deli is definitely at the top of the list…read more Goldberg's offers deli traditional favorites like fresh-baked bagels, lox, and sandwiches piled high with deli meats, as well as healthier options like salads when you want something lighter in an unapologetically casual ambiance. Goldberg's has been a local staple in Millburn since Tina and Marty Goldberg first opened the doors back in July 1977. The current owners took over in December 2022 and have done a fantastic job keeping the soulful and "old-school" Jewish-style deli spirit alive while making many subtle but meaningful improvements that today's diners expect and appreciate. However, it still has that authentic, "old-school deli" ambiance where you order at the counter then grab a table to wait for your meal and could end up with mismatched silverware. It's charmingly low-key and with a focus entirely on the food. The deli sandwiches are massive and the quality of the ingredients is consistently high. Unfortunately, that also means that the prices are somewhat higher than you might expect. A single deli sandwich served with a small bag of potato chips is in the $20-$22 range, which feels like a bit of a splurge for a casual lunch. That said.. You definitely won't leave hungry and the portion sizes encourage sharing or taking half of your dish home for a second meal. My dining companion and I split the West Orange sandwich, made with corned beef, turkey, russian dression, and cole slaw, on rye bread, which was excellent. We'll definitely be back. PRO TIP #1: Bring your wallet. I do feel obligated to point out that Goldberg's should be rated as a $$ / moderate price range (indicating $11 to $30 per person) rather than a $ / inexpensive price range (indicating under $10 per person). PRO TIP #2: While they don't have a private lot, there is plenty of on-street parking and municipal lots nearby. Use the mPay2Park app for the pay-by-plate meters ($0.50 per hour). Meters operate Monday through Saturday from 8am to 7pm; all street meters are free after 7 pm and all day Sunday. If the street is full, the Essex Street parking deck (24 Lackawanna Place) is a reliable backup.
