Amazing work! She totally saved a dress that I bought online. It was supposed to be a custom dress, but was sewn all wrong and had an awkward fit. The dress basically had to be taken apart and made into a new dress. I came to her at the last minute and she still got it done in time for my party! Eileen Sylvia of "Said With Threads" in Newark is a master tailor and dress maker. Eileen is also a miracle worker and can repair almost any wedding gown, including those with lace, stone work, rhinestone, tulle, heavy embroidery, brocade, heavy crinoline petticoat, including Pakistani and Indian wedding dresses and Punjabi Sikh bridal salwar dresses and lehengas ..... I attached BEFORE and AFTER photos of my purple / violet Indian lehenga choli bridal dress, which was comprised of three pieces, made from velvet with rhinestone and gold heavy embroidery. The dress was very heavy, custom-made in India, but it was not finished and it needed so much repair and re-doing, that Eileen had to almost take the entire dress apart and re-build it, doing the best possible work with the given materials and the half-finished embroidery which she had to match. She did the best possible job of matching and completing the half-finished embroidery ; she corrected and re-made the shoulder pads, as well as the bust, and the sleeves of the choli blouse; also she corrected the lehenga skirt which was too loose in the waist, too tight in the hips, and she corrected the waist-band, tying and binding cords which were attached too low, she corrected the lehenga skirt also underneath and hemmed it up from the top, she also added can-can (heavy tulle) that was missing to make the dress fuller, and adding material seamlessly to extend the width of the hips which was too tight. Finally, Eileen completed the lehenga skirt with hundreds of golden shimmering glass rhinestones: the original dress arrived from Indian with the stones made from plastic but it all had to be ripped out and re-done because plastic stones do not shine!!!! So Eileen ordered, replaced and added hundreds of actual glass rhinestones to the lehenga skirt --- so much work!!!! Finally, Eileen did all necessary alterations to make the pieces fit my measurements, spending many appointments with me (total of 5 fittings), and she was so forgiving and flexible of my having to cancel and/or arrive late to a couple of those appointments. In the end, Eileen unequivocally saved this Indian lehenga choli dress, and turned it into a magnificent dazzling gown for my wedding reception. Eileen is also a sincerely kind and caring person. I definitely 100% recommend Eileen for all bridal dresses for Sangeet, Mehendi, ceremony, and reception for Pakistani, Indian, Punjabi, Hindu, etc brides. read more

I got my wedding dress altered by Eileen at Said With Threads and overall was very happy with the work she did. Eileen is definitely an expert in her field, she knows her stuff and it's evident from how she approaches the work to the end result. My wedding dress came out beautifully and the cost was reasonable. Since Eileen's work is so top notch I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her but my recommendation does come with a couple of practical warnings. Eileen can be a bit scattered with the work she has on her plate, I think she has a very large workload and perhaps needs someone that is dedicated to handling the logistics of the company so she can focus on the work. A couple of times we scheduled a follow up appointment to check the fitting of specific parts of the dress but when I arrived Eileen had forgotten the original purpose of the meeting and it ended up feeling a bit like I wasted my time coming in. The day I was supposed to pick my dress up from her, only 3 days before my wedding, I arrived to find she had gotten my dress mixed up with someone else's and finished the wrong one. She made up for it quickly by prioritizing finishing my dress before the day's end so it ended up fine and I was pretty relaxed throughout the situation but if you're a more anxious personality something like this slip up could really ruin things for you. One other thing I noticed is that because Eileen is such an expert in her field she will push back on requests quite often/forcefully. This is a double-edged sword in my opinion because on the one hand part of what you're paying for is the expertise and advice and on the other hand you may just want something anyway even if an expert doesn't think it's advisable. So I just bring this up to let folks know, if you're feeling strongly about wanting something and Eileen recommends otherwise just stick up for what you want and press the issue if you really want it. There's definitely value to the expertise but ultimately you're paying for the work so you should get what you want. Overall I'd definitely recommend Said With Threads. Eileen does great work, she's quick and her prices are reasonable. read more

In an effort to give myself a more streamlined look, I decided to get my shorts tailored. I needed to get it tapered and hemmed. Eileen is amazing and a quintessential professional. I brought her a wedding dress and thought that we only wanted to shorten it a bit. However, she actually advised that rather than shortening it from the bottom, we needed to actually reduce the length around the trunk to have the dress' waist fall at the length of my own waist. She made similarly insightful suggestions throughout the process. Once we resolved one issue she was able to identify another way to help the dress fit me best for our wedding. This was done with no additional cost. My sister is getting married around this time in a different state and her adjustments were significantly more costly.
